You know there's a popular fan Theory that the family wouldn't have blown up if the aunt didn't attack Grace at the end. up until that point it's implied that the only time family members died was when they refused to play. Outside that the family has always won the game so they didn't know what would happen if they lost and a bride/groom made it till dawn. since Grace played by the rules and legitimately won basically everything would have been fine but the aunt attacking her after the time was up essentially caused a penalty clause for Cheating in their contract causing them all to die. The theory also explains why her husband was the last person to go because technically since Grace won and they were still married he was not counted under the rest of the family's contract which is why as soon as she divorced him he exploded because he was then counted with the rest of the family.
Really I thought that was my theory only, I'm rather happy other people think the same. Nothing happened till she broke the rules by trying to kill Grace after she won the game. They'd have been bankrupt and probably going to jail for all the murders since Le Bail removed his protection but I think the deaths were a penalty clause for breaking the rules.
The only problem with that theory is that the only rule in place was Grace needing to be sacrificed by morning. Grace surviving meant she broke that rule. The delay was more likely just Le Bail having a sick sense of humor. Grace was probably saved by asking for a divorce.

This movie is so good on so many levels... but can we all appreciate the absolute HELLISH level that Samara Weaving brings to the scream game? That is some grade-A horror screaming.
I'd never DREAM of doing my boo Samara Weaving like this! My future wife deserves better than what she got here 😂 But for real this flick is one of the gnarliest and most original horror films I've seen in the longest time, with a brand new Scream Queen (that banshee shriek she does is absolutely iconic) who deserves her flowers! We need way more of this kind of wild creativity in the worst way.
But Alex said that people do die. I think Helene and fam would've died anyway, even if Helene had not tried to kill her after dawn. It was just that the Devil was playing with them at first, letting them have a moment of relief thinking they were safe, then... BOOM! Now, Alex on the other hand, he probably would have lived, IF Grace hadn't removed her ring and demanded a divorce.
One of the best, most satisfying endings of all time. And, you can't not fall in love with Samara Weaving. "Mayhem" is kind of a tonally similar movie with her. Also, "Guns Akimbo" - with Daniel Radcliffe, but he's the MC.

When you have the blood of almost every member of the family on you, there's not a single body of any family member, and the house is up in flames... well, that's very suspicious.
