Dropper Loop Rig

- On this tutorial we'll learn how to make a dropper loop. This is normally used on dropshot rigs, where the weight is on the bottom and you have one or more hooks above. These type of rigs are best used for bottom fishing and they are effective on both saltwater and freshwater environments. Although I don't normally use this type of knot very often, it is worth knowing how to make them. For one, the dropper loop is a bit stronger than my favorite knot for a dropshot which is based on a surgeon's knot with two turns. Even Though it is a fairly easy to do knot, I don't use it a lot because it is kind of hard to do in low light situations and I do a lot of fishing at night.
Well, enough said... I invite you to watch the video and please feel free to send me any comments, complaints or suggestions for future videos. After all, I want these videos to be useful, so if there is anything that you would like me to show you how to do or any questions regarding rigs, fishing or particularly handline fishing and the use of the Yoyitos, please let me know.
Nice Loop
Watching from New Delhi India
Thanks so so much I have loads of dropper weights and I can now use them
They work like charm and allow for long distance casting.
Great video, one that is easily understood and followed. Thanks
hi new sub here, i like your video im learning new things. especially the way you tie the sinker and hook. im a woman who loves fishing but not out in the ocean just to the shore. fishing is my passion. thanks, hope to learn more in the future since i already know a few things from my grandpa. have a wonderful day. aloha.
That is great Revalliv. The funny thing is, even though women are underrepresented among anglers today in the US, throughout human history, fishing has been done mostly by women.
Good luck with your fishing endeavors and feel free to reach out to us if have any questions.
Thanks for your time to help child to loop a fishing line. thanks
Thank you Arse. If you teach a kid how to fish, they'll never forget you.
Best tutorial of this loop
Thank you so much.
Great video all the way from Mumbai India
Thank you so much Mark. That's a long way indeed. BTW, have you seen people handlining in India?
Superbly Simplified ......Superawesome
Thanks John
Thanks for sharing, cool.
awesome bro, cheers from the island of paradise :)
I did this by going 4 times around, adding my middle finger, then doing 4 more after my middle finger. The finger keeps the center "hole" open for you to pass the simple side of the loop through
New en you channel nice tutorial
Thank you, im a novice and this got me going.
Good tutorial of dropper loop ring
Thank you . I'm working on new videos with a better setup and hopefully without me rambling so much.
great... thanks a lot
Thank you, I appreciate the comment.
Great video
you do great or great porrdge to learn your way
Thank you. Handlining is a very simple way to fish.
Great vid mate, btw big fan of No Country for Old Men you were great
Thanks Gibb. You are not the first to make that comment. I'm going to have to write to hollywood and demand royalties because they used my voice. LOL.
Great video, thank you
Thanks so much, I appreciate the comment and encouragement
Fantastic
Thank you
Nice trik
Thanks Arshad
I’ve been doing a simplified version of this ever since I was little lmao I didn’t even realize it was a dropper loop but then again I’ve never lost a fish on it and it takes like 10 seconds to do
Thanks for the comment Angel. I too prefer another variant of the dropper (basically my own invention :) ). It is faster to do and just as effective, in fact I've used a scale to test the knot strength and my version is stronger. Here is a video where you can see me do it: ruclips.net/video/foj1tiYUZx4/видео.html (just jump to about 3:40. )
Good
I got lost after the second loop. Lol. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Super bro
Thanks Enab, I really appreciate the comment and encouragement.
Good fising
thanks for this..
Your welcome Catoy.
Muy muy bueno
Gracias Jose.
Thanks sir
Thanks Antonio
Much easier if you stick a pencil or thick hook in before doing the twists. Then just do 4 twists on each side!
Thanks for the comment, that's a great tip.
You can do the same with a dobble overhand knot !
You could, but it won't keep the leader strait and away from the center line. Here is another variation that I personally use which is closer to what you just suggested. ruclips.net/video/foj1tiYUZx4/видео.html just jump to about 3:40 on the video.
Super
Nice
Thank you
Ficou bom !!!
Muito obrigado.
Nice g
Thanks Raees
Do more fishing videos 👍
Thanks Trina. I will, I just need to find the time.
'Nice
nice
Thank you
So I've been experimenting with droppers and find that making the loop and the length between loops requires voodoo. Any tips to standardize 2 loops evenly spaced and same size loop would be appreciated. I did make a peg board and still can't standardize everything. The dimensions are always off 1/2 inch to 2,3, 4 or more inches. Thanks!
Hi OBX. I too find it difficult to consistently create similar sized loops. So far I've had the best results by always starting out with the same length of line. For example, I use 18" of line to make the loop and pull the lines into a knot in the same order. Mind you, the 18" inches includes the space between the drops, so I'm doing 18" from my sinker, then 18" from the first drop for the second one. But even like this, sometime when pulling it pulls a bit more from the back than the front.
I much prefer to do a different knot for a dropshot rig, check out this other video: ruclips.net/video/-Nj83s-I1ew/видео.html
It is much easier to create consistent drops using this other technique. Even though I say on the video the dropper loop is stronger, I've since changed my mind. I went ahead and tested a few dozen rigs using a scale and the other knot is actually a bit stronger than the dropper loop rig.
BTW, if you use a jig (a wooden board with nails) as a guide to make sure all the line lengths are consistent, you can create a much more consistent rig, but it is useless in the field. I may make a video to show how this is done.
I hope this helps.
OBX Fishing it's definitely witchery, I find my hook always winds up on the main line for some reason or another.
good job
👍👍👍👍
What is the ideal hook size to catch beach corner fishing
I am not sure what you mean by "beach corner fishing", but as a general rule: If you are getting bites but not hooking up, just go to a smaller hook.
Is that an aluminum spool for your line.? that's fantastic! love it
That is a pocket size handline fishing reel. You can cast the line as far as you can with a standard rod and you can land almost anything that swims with it.
Thank you ok
Cool!
Was that a clinch knot for the weight?
I used a Uni knot for the weight. Thanks for the comment Beck.
Thanksgiving.
#now i can duit.
@aummmm
I think you made this video on the seaside or beach side and I there were so many birds as I can hear which are coming from video or maybe you have pets or cage of birds. .. just my prediction . I want you to tell me am I right or explan me the sounds coming from the video
LOL, that's my petty attempt to add ambiance to an otherwise boring video. I recorded that sound in the afternoon at the beach and used it as a background track on the video. I think the birds were seagulls.
When I pull on both sides the Dropper Loop undoes itself. Is there a reason for that or is that just what happens if you pull too hard when tightening it?
You have to pull on all three sides not just the loop. Or at least don't allow the two sides to move while you pull on the loop.
Salam tempel di bayar lunas permanen🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣👌🙏😄
What kind of fish is that for
Thanks for the comment Jorge. Basically you can use this for any type of bottom fishing. I use it both in freshwater and saltwater. When targeting bottom fish (i.e.: snappers, groupers, black drum, etc.) I use some dropshot variation or another, for mid water column I'll use something more like a carolina rig and for top water I just free-line shrimp, greenbacks or some other appropriate live bait.
Stress me out man
Sorry man, I did not intend to stress you out.
Well I found this easy just pay attention
If u like fishing u woulda got it the first time like me
Any specific reason you use yellow line for the rig
I just thought it was more visible so it would be better to show how to make the knot.
Hi make a video for beginners for a dropper loom
Thanks for the comment Jaydin. I'm working on new videos that hopefully show this stuff better and in a way that is easier to understand.
What is that like 30 lbs line
Jose that was 30 lb p-line.
What line is that?
That is p-line cxx x-tra strong in hi-viz yellow-green 30lbs. This is the kind of line I use when I'm after big catfish and sharks at night. Usually is rigged with a larger circle hook and when fishing for sharks I use about 10 feet of 140 lbs steel braid.
Fishing Yoyito thank you sir.
Andy Metternich P-line CXX is my favorite too.
Is this what the Eastern Europeans call a side strap rig?
I'm not sure what is called in eastern europe. However, handline fishing is practice around the world and the name varies from place to place.
Can i catch carp with this rig?
Sure, you can catch anything that will take a hook. Search around on youtube for "yoyito carp" and you'll probably find a video of one of our customers catching carp with it. I don't personally fish for carp, we don't have that many where I live, and the ones we have are protected because they are used to control the vegetation. But I would love to have the opportunity to go after one of those big carps I see on people catching in europe.
The dropper loop was a bit hidden from camera while doin it
Thanks Awara, I'll work on better camera angles next time.
What do I put on this rig live bait ?
You can rig it any way you like. I use mostly live bait when fishing inshore saltwater, jigs for offshore wrecks and small jigs or soft plastics for freshwater.
Fishing Yoyito thx !
Nice
Thanks for the comment and encouragement.
