Surely Michael Clarke could give Cummins more credit with his tactics. I think Cummins left a bit to be desired tactically in the Ashes, but in this series and particularly during the World Cup he was exceptional with his tactics and field placements
Only one other bowling series on our shores is comparable to Bumrah this summer, and it's the Summer of Mitchell Johnson. He's easily the best foreign bowler. Its a shame India just didn't bat well enough to get the rest done.
The wicket was fine, better than a dead track like Adelaide used to be. I'll bet Bumrah liked bowling on it... Clarke sucking up to the BCI a bit I think.
You can tell Clarke and Johnson didn't get along. Bumrah had juicy wickets, the new Kookaburra ball, which has reduced batting averages and bowling averages since ince9tion in 2023. The wobble seam delivery has also reduced averages too. Johnson bowled on mainly flat wickets in 2013, and he took 37 at 13 .
The SCG test may have been over in under 3 days but Australia still had 6 wickets left. They could have batted into day 4 if they'd just had a bigger total to chase. It's not like a wicket which falls apart on day 1 and is over on day 2. Sunny and Pup need to have another think about that.
Hadlee took 33 wickets in 3 test in 1985 and NZ won 2-1. Ambrose took 33 wickets in 5 test in 1992 and WI won 2-1. Bumrah took 32 wickets in 5 tests and Aus won 3-1. Very difficult to chose between the 3 of them. Considering the result and amount of wickets, Hadlee performance should be rated as best.
Clarke’s comments about the pitch make no sense. On the one hand he says Aussies can’t complain when India/BCCI doctor their pitches because this pitch at the SCG favored fast bowling, but then he says that if Bumrah plays the final day then India probably win… So even though Aus only needed a draw to take the trophy, the Sydney curator prepared a pitch that gave lndia a fighting chance of winning and suited their best bowler (ie. the best fast bowler in the world)? Yeah, that’s actually the complete opposite to what India do with their pitches Pup 🤷♂️ Btw, it was definitely not a good pitch, but that’s because the curator tried to make it a competitive wicket and went too far in that direction. And just a reminder, while it was hard for the batters, that means the Aus batters too. Australia also had to bat on that wicket and struggled just as much as India did. Hard to see how it gave Aus an advantage.
Yes, finally someone said this. I think the pitches in this series got unduly criticized, given that there were two 400+ scores (Gabba, MCG) and one 350 in Adelaide. So it was not a completely bowler-friendly series, and the pitches were broadly excellent. Pitches in India, on the other hand, more often than not (and that's close to 80% of the time) are dust bowls that rag from the first session of day 1, and most scores are sub-200 (although the recent England tour there was a refreshing change and the curators/BCCI deserve credit for those decks). And let's not even get to the fact that the team management in India can request the kind of pitches they want, completely in contrast to how it works in Australia.
The SCG is known as a great spinning wicket. We didn't get to see that. It is good to see different pitches in Australia. It adds to the historical aura of test cricket. Cheers.
@@lesliedaras-wells2510 That's true, but it's also true that there have been an inordinate number of draws there in recent times. The curator tried to counteract that with a bit of pace in the wicket, but he over corrected and it was a bit of a mistake. So I think we should cut the Aussie curators some slack. At least they aren't listening to orders from someone up above.
"IF India produced a raging turner" ... Nagpur? Delhi? then a road to ensure a draw at Ahmedabad.... and the SCG was a touch too green, but this did not disadvantage Bumrah's team.

I think for once Clarke is off the Mark..Any visiting International Team should adjust and play whatever pitches are on offer....Example is New Zealand thumped India 3-0....those were not rank turners... Basically the point if India or Australia travelled to each others countries Both sides have spinners and pacers...that's the bottom line...Both sides their Batters and bowlers are supposed to handle all conditions as conditions are the same for both....If it's a rank turners or spin dust Bowl in India... Australia have Lyon and Adam Zampa with their pacers., so be it out and out Pace bouncy/low bouncy seam and swing..weather conditions,..and if it's the same way for 5 days so be it..,The issue here almost all 5 Tests the batters on both sides did not battle long enough to have the match go after the 4th afternoon and the whole 5th day...most were 2.5..3 or 3.5.or 4 days..,it's the skill of the batsmen and ability to stay for long sessions cut the time,,, because either the batsmen were found wanting or the pacers on both sides were too good for them especially the top 5...All teams need to carry their best off and leg spinners...
yeah, I actually thought atleast 230 was required, but looking at the pitch in the 4th innings and we got 4 wickets by bowling poorly, so yeah 180-190 would have been enough with fit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna didn't know how to bowl with new ball.
Why all this talk about India coulda would won .. the point was Bumrah was bowled to the core, he was knackered. But that is the point of a long series and over reliant on him. Cummins played all 5 and was still going at 140 at SCG. India without Bumrah was just a weaker team. And the comment about the SCG. i disagree. India and subcontinant teams always made pitches that suit their home team, but in the case of the SCG, the curator didnt juice up the pitch to help the aussies, so not comparable. The pitch was not great for test cricket but both teams had advantage.
when did we see any love from the Indian crowd ? Always stun silence whenever opposition player takes a wicket, hits 4/6. Absolutely zero support and love..

Why people are forgetting about McSweeny? He can open with Konstas and let Marnus bat at 3 in the Ashes. Also, they may need a spin bowling all rounder in Sri Lanka. Webster may not do a lot of bowling there. Someone like a Connolly. Ashton Agar may also be in contention for the Sri Lanka tour.
Webster was an off spinner until 2020. He decided to switch to medium pace during the pandemic. Travis Head can also bowl off spin so I don't know if they need Mcsweeny's spin bowling.

There is nothing to blame about a typical green pitch. It should have been a flat pitch for a draw, since Australia was already 2-1 up in the series. But CA took a brave decision, it could have been backfired.
JB is undoubtedly one of the modern day great medium pacers, but labeling him as 'the greatest of all time' is completely bs. Many players of similar caliber have come and gone, delivering a few standout performances along the way. True greatness lies in staying injury-free and consistently performing at a high level. JB struggles to play two consecutive matches without issues. And let's not even get into the discussion about what could be considered one of the ugliest bowling bowling actions ever.
