“When did ‘Liberal’ Become an Insult?” 2023 | Villanova University

Villanova’s Albert LePage Center for History in the Public Interest hosted an interesting webinar entitled “When did ‘Liberal’ Become a Dirty Word?” It discussed discussed liberalism in American political discourse, and how contemporary reaction toward liberalism has been weaponized in phrases like "owning the libs." Three esteemed professors from other universities contributed to provide a comprehensive understanding of how this history connects to the modern political climate. This panel was moderated by Villanova University History professor Dr. Marc Gallicchio.
