Thanks for the effort of filming this town for the world to see. Even in the middle of the short Finnish summer this place appears to be utterly depressing and uninviting. Hardly any people can be seen on the mostly empty streets that are lined with brutal concrete box architecture. No wonder so few people are about as it's hard to imagine anyone wanting to visit this place. Even the presumably low population of locals seem to avoid it.
I know you are Finnish but i'll write in English so everyone who understands your message can understand mine. Let's take into consideration: Kajaani is a smallish town, so this much people in the streets is kind of a lot. It's not normal here at any time to have crowded streets where everyone is stepping on each others toes. And you could see people were getting to where they needed to by car. We have a very livid "cruising" culture here. This was the heart of summer. Many people were at their cottages or perhaps in their own yards, enjoying life away from the camera. Also, this was 2pm on a thursday in July. Many people were at work so they weren't walking in the city centre. (+ This video captures only a part of the town in a small time frame.) At the time of this video, I was at work at Vanha Kirjastotalo -restaurant's terrace, serving cold drinks to clients, soothing the heat drinking a fresh iced soda with lime. It was one of the busiest days for me as a bartender! There are many types of cities around the world and Kajaani is one of the more calm, quiet and idyllic ones (minus some of the architecture). Of course the bar street (Luotikuja) in Kauppakatu livens up on the weekend and the sounds of music, having fun, and drunk people fighting fills the street. You are right, the majority of people don't want to move here, nor do they want to move to any other dying town. We can all sense the bankrupt firms and empty working spaces and young people going to universities elsewhere every year. It's true. We are also working hard to keep the town alive with spreading culture like dance, theater, music, poetry, pop-up events, just all kinds of arts, sports and traditions. I sincerely hope after reading this information you don't find Kajaani as utterly depressing as you did four months ago. And if you do, it's okay, it is your point of view! We can also talk more and share more if you'd like.
@@helspanen6121 I was to Kajaani for 3 months as an exchange student between 02 Feb to 02 May last year. To me Kajaani was nice since I love quite places and too many people cause me so headache at times. Though it was mostly winter, I still loved the place compared to other cities in other parts of the world i have visited. Yes, economically and in terms of architecture it might not be on some cities people wants it to be at, but we should all know that not all cities have to be at the same levels. For me i was working as an exchange nurse student and during this time, I managed to meet nice people. This was a deal breaker for me, knowing that almost everyone can stop and help you when you needed assistance to navigate a place. Also, I met very wonderful patients, coworkers, and nurse mentors who really made me feel at home. Actually, majority of coworkers and my mentors wanted and still want me to return to Kajaani because they liked my open mind, skills, and knowledge regarding health care. I just love simple life, nature, sense of safety, peace with people around me and that's it. Kajaani was offering all that. But people/migrants who leave their country with one aim of exploiting the area/city/country they migrate to with aim to get as much money as they can, Kajaani isn't the ideal place they should go to. Thanks all 🤞

Kajaani is beautiful and very cool but it's also depressing, no fun , no shopping mall, u hardly will see ur country person if you are an immigrants.
