Dude, the timing of this video is just perfect! I've experienced this issue last week. Got a custom sound system installed by my local Car Audio shop and after a month, the amp would just shut down randomly. After investigating, the wires on the side of the amp got loose for some reasons. Easely fixed, but I gotta say, I was freaking out when this happened lol. Awesome video as always! 😉
One other thing to mention, when testing voltage on the power and remote wires, if you have low or no voltage on both the power AND remote wires, the ground is probably faulty. Test the wires again with the black probe of the meter grounded to the chassis to confirm.
Thank you so much Mark ❤ I accidentally reversed polarity of input power and blew up my amp fuses with sparks. Replaced my fuses and it plays fine now 👍
As a automotive tech that doesnt work on the audio side that had no idea this was how they worked. My mustang hadnt had any speaker working or amp for a year. I knew i had power coming in but had no idea what was going on with it. Ended up being the amp uses the headunit ac signal from the music (static ac when on) to turn on the amp. And for some reason it lost that functionality. Jump to the key on signal from power like you suowed and it came to life. So i took the interior apart and ran a signal wire from the headunits factory key on power. And now it works. Thanks.
Ive recently fitted new rear speakers, sub and amp was working fine prior to this, after install all speakers work but no power on to amp Going to check through some these tips tomorrow
Good video. Dealing with this rn with a brand new head unit not putting out voltage from the line outputs. Going to double check with a meter playing a test tone, but looks like I’ll be sending it back to Crutchfield.
So I have an active subwoofer that doesn't turn on, I know all the connections and wires are good coz I connected two different amps and they both turned on, what could the problem be
Mark, quick question I accidentally plugged the ground and Power in reverse I saw Sparks when I put the ground in the power cable in the ground. Did it again this time no sparks. Fuse good. could you please be so kind and tell me what steps to take next should I check for a protection diode across the + & - like ameture radio amps have. Should I try hooking it up the right way and see what happens I'm afraid to do so in case I damage it if it isn't already damaged. let me know please bro thank you very much. Thanks so much, great video! I just want to see if my amp I bought at an auction would power up and it did with the remote jumper wire before Installing it. thanks for the info😅
checked voltage on the wires aand got 12 v then connected to amp nut nothign but still measures 12v but no voltage from control and the ground, gana chase the control wire, thanks for the quick vid veyr detailed
I have a 2001 Toyota Sienna XLE with JBL Audio. For a while all speakers work. I replaced the rear speakers with bose I got from a relative. 3 months later rears speakers aren't working.
Thank you so damn much man you saved me my wire that turns the amp on was not getting power and it fixed my system I was so sad lol I had just bought 2 15s to
Top tip for hyundai/Kia drivers out there. If you want to upgrade your audio and got a SPDIF factory Amp. Save up and just completely remove and replace the factory radio and amp and get some speed wire for your aftermarket gear. You do not want to know the hell you'll go through trying to work around that amp/radio instead of just gutting it.
Just started recently working at a car shop where one of the Main things they do over there is sound system. Do you have videos based on sound system from installing, setting up and equipment needed? Also do you have videos explaining the basics for each equipment is needed to install a sound system. Some basic stuff what you need to know about speakers, amplifiers, and subwoofer. I'm sorry I know I'm asking a lot but as someone like me who don't have that much background About sound system I'm trying to learn as much as I could.
I've been having this particular issue with my sub, it does not power on at all and all connections are good but if when I turn off my car the amp it self causes parasitic draw and kills my battery with in a few hours
Great quality video as usual!👌 Could you make a video about troubleshooting buzzing/hissing sounds from a setup just installed? I just installed mine and cant seem to figure out where this sound is coming from.. Thanks!
I’m using an adapter to my stock head unit and the trigger switch wire broke. Will it work if I wire the trigger switch to a 12 Volt aux switch on my truck?
Hi, i have a VW Helix Amp running in car and i think it's not turning down anymore and then causing battery drain. No more drain if i unplug the amp but no more sound too. Any idea how can i check that ? and if so, how can i fix it ? Thanks in advance :)
What does it mean when that power green light flicker off and on and the sub makes a popping noise.. tried adjusting the gain no difference on anything..
Several months back, I had a situation where my amp had battery voltage while the head unit was off, but as soon as the remote line was energized by turning on the head unit, the battery voltage at the amp dropped to zero. Turned out to be a faulty/intermittent at the point where the positive power wire was tapped into the system. I replaced the wire with a slightly larger guage wire, connected properly at the battery instead under the dash at the fuse box ( was using a previously installed wire, by a previous owner ) and the problem was fixed. Just something to be on the look out for in similar situations.
I have an Audi A4 with the stock audio system. I get no sound from any of the doors. The dash speaker, tweeters, and the speaker in the back work but at a very low volume, i mean really low. Any help with fixing this problem would be appreciated. Thanks
Don't forget some radios have a remote turn on and a power Antenna turn on if you're hooked up to the power antenna the amplifier will only work with the stereo in the FM or Am position
Can i just ask if theres issues with the sub like a water damage and like lets say it trys to run power to thre subwoofer is there a power saver mode? Also i have another comment id like you to read this one will make a whole lot more sense, Im just trying to work out if my amp is ruined
Recently got a kicker cxa800.1 and it worked the first day but the next it cut out and after testing the power and ground it was reading 6Volts. I have no idea what to do cause my lines seem snug.
I have a question what do you think of the is this a good speaker for someone new to (audio car systems) Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-12 600W Peak (300W RMS) Class-D Amplified Single 12" Punch Series Subwoofer Enclosure with Remote Bass Level Control Included
Hi CAF! I am in the market for some hard hitting bass and im considering buying the sundown SA15v2 2D. Any thoughts about it? Maaaybe a little vid-review?🥺 Love your vids, keep up the good work!😍😄
I have a question. I want to install subwoofers in a semi truck, but I also want to install a 2300W inverter. Since both the amp and inverter connect to the batteries, would that cause any issues?
After installing aftermarket double din stereo in my jeep wrangler jk i have no sound from any of the speakers, this jeep has a factory amplifier but no blue wires its been turned on by canbus, the aftermarket stereo has the blue amplifier control wire but were would it connect? Thanks
Hello dude i would ask a question my amplifier nakamichi 3000watt 4 channel i used ch1/2 for four 4ohm speaker 6x9 and 3/4 as bridge for my little subwoofer and it can run 2ohm so how could i wiring my 4 speaker as 4 ohm could it happened and what if i wiring to 8 ohm dose sound would be less louder Best regard ❤️
I love the audio control amp I have, but when I had it professionally installed using the gto it fried the battery in my wife's 2020 Jeep. And it is actually the same amp being used in this video. So in new cars w everything integrated into the stereo, be careful. Every time the key fob was used, doors open, etc, it was powering the amp on.
That's honestly more of an install issue. The Wranglers are pretty straightforward for a remote turn on lead, so not sure why GTO was used in the first place.
@@CarAudioFabrication it was in a compass. I was trying to prevent the guy tearing the dash apart. I'm not saying that the guy didn't make some sort of mistake. This was just my experience with it.
i have subwoofers on amp other speakers are powered by player. for long battery life i have put an on off switch to remote turn on wire so i only turn on the amp when want to listen it loud with subwoofers.
How do u trouble shoot the other thing... for lowering the frequency so the amp can work... but it doesn't- still I checked everything and it still won't work. If the speaker is blown won't it make SOME noise?
Here is where I’m at with my subwoofer install (this is my first time and I am struggling at every turn): TLDR: my sub is extremely quiet even when I crank every knob to the maximum. Like so quiet there is almost no movement on the sub at all and I have to put my head on it to see if it’s on. I have an AudioControl LC2i Pro. I have crimped the rear speaker wire and connected that to the LC2i high speaker input and then I jumped the left to the right so both sides were getting the same signal. I am vampyring the power and ground on the LC2i from the amp with 12 gauge wire. The amp is an 800 watt D class using 4 gauge wire that is connected to the car battery with an 80 amp fuse. The negative is connected with 4 gauge wire to a bolt that is connected to the negative battery terminal. When measuring the battery with the car turned on (but not the engine running) the LC2i and the amp both show 12.4 on the multimeter. I then ran a tone through the car speakers and see that the RCA cables plugged into the LC2i are sending signal. I plugged the RCA cables from the bass output on the LC2i into the amp. First annoyance is that both the LC2i and the amp have knobs that control the bass. I’m not sure if I need to have them both plugged in and then find some synchronized levels. Because I’m not using a remote wire from the head unit, I am using the GTO option on the LC2i and that seems to keep everything powered properly. I am also using the remote out on the LC2i to the remote in on the amp. Last settings for the LC2i are the load select which I have at 20kO and the bass output level which I have in the middle. I didn’t do anything with the accubass and just have them at the minimum. As for the amp, it has a setting for bass boost which I have off (0DB), low pass frequency which I have set to allow all low frequencies, high pass frequency which is set around the middle which should give it a cap of around 100hz, and then it has the RCA input from the LC2i. As mentioned before it is connected to power and turns on without issue. The output it has are 2 + and 2 - speaker terminals that appear to be jumped inside the unit according to my continuity test so I only have 1 12/14 gauge wire (not 100% sure which it is) connected to those and then to the sub. In relation to the video, the amp is turning on. RCA is showing an AC voltage. I am detecting a signal from the speaker wire. At this point I can hear a faint sound coming out of the sub, but it is extremely quiet. I am hoping there is something obvious I am doing wrong. Again, this is my first time wiring this up and I basically did it from your videos and reading posts on Reddit/the internet. I would easily pay someone to do it for me but no one will touch my car as it’s a 2022 and there is currently no public info on it, even cruchfield is blank. So any help would be greatly appreciated!!
1 wire to the sub? Check your sub wiring and ohm load. If it's right then just bypass all the lci shit and and send a signal to amp then sub. If it's still not working and you have votlage at the sub wires your shit is blown
My JL slash 1 quit working. Checked it and it was dripping wet! Figured I need a new one but a few days later, the old warhorse is slamming again! Should I let it be or open it up to check for damage? The knobs seem to spike the sound, they must be getting worn, this thing is like 25 years old!
So I bought a home system subwoofer, I get power to the unit and I can actually run signal through it into my studio monitors/ and successfully get sound through my studio monitors!!! but my subwoofer is just not firing at all.??? Has no sound. I have put my multimeter up to it and it is reading 3.2 ohms. Its a 4 ohm subwoofer. Can't seem to diagnose it unless that means its a bad woofer. It has a slight ruffle sound when I press it in really hard... any suggestions?
Mark, thoroughly enjoying your video's. I have an unusual one for you. I have a Kit Car and no audio installed. I am looking to have a four camera dash cam too. What is my best way forward?
Hello I have a 2012 bmw 528i with a regular Hifi system i replaced the amplifier and my bass returned for one day and left again do you know what the problem might be if it's not the amplifier.....really sucks not having music
What happens when everything is connected properly, voltage and ground getting good connections, but keep blowing the onboard 30amp fuse. I’m guessing my amp is faulty? How would I test?
Sounds like a short somewhere in the cable, go through and look at any locations where it could’ve gotten cut, used to have a short on one of my mods for my car and the fuse would keep getting blown and ended up having a short somewhere and just put electrical tape around where it was ripped and fix it
How do you deal with the chime ordeal with 2021 Silverado’s? I’m going to do 2 amps subs and speakers all around with a audio control dsp 608 I believe.
I just got my amp and it just makes static noise when i plug it into the guitar and the amp doesnt make any nosie when i play something. And i have a tuner but it doesnt have a battery and idk how to use it..
A couple of tips. Amp fuses should be tested out the amp, or the multimeter could be damaged. If you want to test them connected to the amp, a better way to do that is by checking them in high current mode, as an amperimeter, 10A in most multimeters, and set the volume really low. If a fuse is blown, when you connect the amperimeter the circuit will be closed by it, turning on the amp. If fuse isn't blown, the meter will just show 0 Amps. To check remote speakers wiring, even if they have any kind of filter, we should just disconnect them from the amp, and set the meter in ohms. If meter shows infinite value, speaker may be disconnected. If don't, we have two possible chances: if it's a low frequency speaker, it should show a low value on ohms, because if it is even filtered, low pass filters should have low impact on impedance (coil resistence). In a mid/high range speaker, we should have much higher resistance, but never an infinite value. And to check speaker wiring, oldstyle way, is using a 1.5V battery (AA or AAA) or even 9V in high power speakers. By fast connecting/disconnecting the battery directly to the speaker we should heat little "toc" noises from the speaker, if it's ok. Please don't use any power supply or car's battery to do this, DC is really harmfull to speakers and we need to use a low volt, low current drain battery just to fast checking, higher voltages or high amp capabilities will end blowing your speaker coil.
My voltage at my speaker inputs on my subwoofer amplifier are about 12 volts with the gain all the way turned up what could be the cause of this? It used to go higher than that could it be my alternator going bad?
I need your help. My amp turns on, but doesnt put out sound, no protect mode nothing just no sound. Could you please tell me what could be the problem🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
here's a question for y'all. Just installed my amp. Alpine KTA450 on an Alpine ILXW650. When the audio is centered I hear distortion (sounds like a tweeter is blown) but when I pan L or R, fade F or B...the distortion goes away!!? It goes away gradually too. Each speaker isolated sounds fine, but when everything is set to center it has distortion (high chime-y distortion) on the peaks. WTF??
My rca port on my amp have a problem i don't really know what to do with it now, amp plays sometimes and stop playing sometimes, when i check it i realize the rca port on the amp is faulty
Here is a question you should address. Does the shape of your sealed subwoofer box affect how it plays or sounds? For example say you build a custom L-shaped box to fit in your vehicle versus a square or rectangle.
im having an issue with a car i bought. dude installed a cheap chinese headunit (which i think is my problem) and a hifonics bg-1300.1d amp with a skar sdr-1x10D2 sub. its all new, amp has power, but isnt receiving signal from headunit. problem is its so cheap i cant do any reaearch. its a 7" touchscreen that was probably around $75. anyways. ive tried all RCA outs on the unit and still nothing. It has a sub, front and rear LR and line in LR. cant get any noise though. any thoughts?
Hello, ive been looking for a video guide. I have Blaupunkt 470 sf wired to 2 magnat sub speakers(bridged) and when the bass kicks the amp goes protect mode, please help.
I just recently got two JL audio 12s, lc2i pro, and a jbl amp I love them but every time I accelerate in my car it makes a terrible rumbling noise almost as if the sound of the engine is coming through the subs, I’m very new to car audio systems and I’m not very educated on how they work. The only time the sound gets slightly better is if I turn down the bass completely which pretty much defeats the purpose of the subs. Does anyone know what may be the issue and how I could fix it?
Hi there! I have a question. My preamp outputs on my aftermarket head unit are 2 volts. Does more voltage equal more power out of my amplifier in any way? What can I do if so? Thank you!
The amplifiers gain control is used to set the amplifier up for the correct signal input voltage. You will need to use more gain with a weaker input signal. When tuned properly, there will not be any difference in amplifier output level regardless of the signal input level. The advantage to having a higher voltage signal is an improved signal to noise ratio.
One way to get a higher voltage on your preouts is to use a " line driver " which, Mark has reviewed one by AudioControl here on this channel. While, as Daniel said, the higher voltage won't make your amp any louder, it WILL however make your overall sound quality MUCH better.
My problem is that I can measure power on the wires before connecting them to the amp, but after connection the power is below 2-3 volts. All fuses are good 😢
I have a problem with a salt 6 that has very little play time on it. It will loose signal through the rca inputs within a minute of play time. I switch my rca cable to the slave input and it works fine. And sundown Audio tested it and said it works fine. I've never had this problem happen before. Basically this amp only works in slave mode. Anyone out there could give me some advice on what could be the problem.
I have checked everything on mine everything checks out. The only thing I can come up with is the high output alternator from js alternators I have is keeping me at a steady 15.5v and that is too much for the amp which is a kicker ca1200.1. Can you do a video on a solution for this issue or does anyone have a solution for this?
Your amp should be wired to/pull from the battery, not the alternator... The alternator puts out more when the engine is under load, idle is 15.5... the alternator is to charge the battery, the battery runs all the electronics/lights, engine start, ect... Not the alternator.
Dude, the timing of this video is just perfect!

Thank you! I recently just experienced this issue. It was the remote wire. Got pinched and broken.
If you have no remote wire the amp shuts off ? Right ? Cause I’m having the problem of no power to my amp
Always double check the fuse mine looked perfect like brand new but open it up it was in two pieces
Clean presentation Mark. *****
I have a ground loop problem can you help with with your experience?

4:00 nice feature, my JL has it. Made installing just that much easier
Just fitted my amp all speakers going to the amp but it's not playing any music.. .but sound is coming through even with headunit off
Mark, thoroughly enjoying your video's. I have an unusual one for you. I have a Kit Car and no audio installed. I am looking to have a four camera dash cam too. What is my best way forward?
Would love to help you pick out gear. A consultation can be started here: www.caraudiofabrication.com/consultations
That helped me, thx!
I have a problem with my amp, there’s no signal coming out of the amp to the woofer. Is it fixable?
Where you guys have a shop ?
Hello I have a 2012 bmw 528i with a regular Hifi system i replaced the amplifier and my bass returned for one day and left again do you know what the problem might be if it's not the amplifier.....really sucks not having music
What happens when everything is connected properly, voltage and ground getting good connections, but keep blowing the onboard 30amp fuse. I’m guessing my amp is faulty? How would I test?
Sounds like a short somewhere in the cable, go through and look at any locations where it could’ve gotten cut, used to have a short on one of my mods for my car and the fuse would keep getting blown and ended up having a short somewhere and just put electrical tape around where it was ripped and fix it
i have no power to eq or amps radio has power. i have a circuit breaker at the battery could the breaker have gone bad?
I have a 1500.1 dx kicker amp it turns on but no noise at subs ? Any help 🙏🏼
How do you deal with the chime ordeal with 2021 Silverado’s? I’m going to do 2 amps subs and speakers all around with a audio control dsp 608 I believe.
Learn something new errday, I wonder if the T5002 amp needs Audio input to turn on.......
Please help
My PA-130 sound won't work unless I turn bass up and down... How to fix that?
will this work for a 2013 s350
Im 9 volts between the ground and remote . The wires are 2 different guages will that cause the issue?
The power & ground wire have to be the same gauge(ex:both 4gauge)…the remote wire will be smaller(ex:18gauge)
Hi, I’m having issues with my amp in getting sound out but it takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the subs to kick in….. can you please help?
How to fix clip lamp, amp turns on but no sound. Bass habit 1000.1df. Problem was of burnt subwoofer.
do you have to run your ground to your car battery or can it be connected to the vehicle somewhere
@@alexcody1319 you dont run the ground to your battery you ground it on the cars chassis
Um my ground unit isn't hooked up the my battery could that be why?
Shout out trinidad 🇹🇹 🙌
Another great troubleshooting video! Thanks mark!
here's a question for y'all. WTF??
What if you do the RCA check with your phone and a 35 mm Jack and you don't get any sound
My rca port on my amp have a problem i don't really know what to do with it now, amp plays sometimes and stop playing sometimes, when i check it i realize the rca port on the amp is faulty
What if the amp is turning on and it works but it cuts out and cuts back on I have two amps one for audio and one for sub
Speaker wire terminal connection to sub enclosure type/brand/name/link please?!🔥🔥🔥
What do I do if something is wrong internally with the amp and no voltage coming out of the speaker terminals
My amp doesn't come on and it's getting power. Fuses are ok but nothing. Internal issue? I guess it's garbage time.
okay so i fixed the melting wire within my speakers i had amp working for some time but now my amp only try’s to click on and it won’t start
So my audio is working but the amp and sub is not powering on what is the cause of this
Hello, ive been looking for a video guide. I have Blaupunkt 470 sf wired to 2 magnat sub speakers(bridged) and when the bass kicks the amp goes protect mode, please help.
Thanks
@@danielabrams555 thank you very, very much!
One way to get a higher voltage on your preouts is to use a " line driver " which, Mark has reviewed one by AudioControl here on this channel. While, as Daniel said, the higher voltage won't make your amp any louder, it WILL however make your overall sound quality MUCH better.
How to connect the fuses and not needing them, actually!?
What if I have almost no output from my amplifier all of a sudden? Is my amp toast?
My eq is not sending out any single to the head unit and I know that it’s getting the signal from the amplifier
