I can't get over how excellently both of you speak English! Your accents are SO subtle and I'm listening for grammar mistakes and you guys just aren't making any--it's so impressive! You sound near native and your husband sounds native, to my ears. I always think of my Swedish friends as speaking really impressive English (and they do), but if everyone in Switzerland is as English-fluent as you guys are (I've never been), then WOW! Fantastic job on your renovation efforts! Tack för videon och lycka till med huset! :)
Thank you so much for your kind words! Derrick is actually from the USA (Texas) so you’re right, he sounds absolutely native hehe. And I am originally from Holland. We lived in Switzerland for 5 years prior to moving to sweden. Speaking English every day definitely helps me :) Tack så mycket och hoppas vi hörs igen!
My advice is to do as much as possible outside during the days that the weather is fine. I have never heard before of a boiler exploding, it was indeed lucky you were at home. edit I very well understand why they chose you to go to Germany, first of all, you speak the language and second you will be better able to tell the people how great it's to live up here, not so much stress, yeah distances are much more as they are used to but it's rather quiet on the roads as soon as you leave a town. and nature is so beautiful, in the winter it's like walking in a Disney winter wonderland, in the moonlight the snow lights up and shows a billion diamonds, every now and then the spirits dance in the sky when Aurora comes to visit us and in spring everything explodes, the people are much more helpful special when you come out in the countryside. A half year ago my aorta started leaking and later on, I had a stroke, I was rather new in the neighbourhood (been living here for 2 years, outside of Jokkmokk) I spent almost 2 months in different hospitals and when I came home the neighbours had locked my door (just like most people here I never lock it) they took care of my dog and mail, they even fetched some items I had ordered online. I have lived 37 years in the south of Sweden and there is just one thing about living in Sweden I regret, that is that I didn't move to the north before. I have lived and worked in different countries and moved so many times that I lost count but in the last 3 years, I have felt I'm finally HOME.
Exactly this!!!! Everyone always asks us ‘WHY?’ ‘Why would you move here?’ And I point at the beautiful midsummer sky, the river right by their houses, show them the northern lights dancing in the sky, the nature, the peace and quietness, explain how nice and helpful everyone is and has been. Everything is just so beautiful up here! How can one not see it!? I guess it’s easy to take things for granted if you always had them but it’s so important to appreciate the things you have. It’s weird to say but even the netherlands, where I was born and raised never felt like a home. Here in North Sweden does though 🇸🇪😊 Not longing to leave but longing to come back. I never had that anywhere before I wish you all the best, stay healthy and greetings from the coast 🇸🇪 👌
Great Project! in sweden most of the "small up to ca 100L" boilers don't come with a safety valve so you have to bye a "Blandningsventil" to add to the boiler. You can find it at Jula :)
Geweldig!❤
@@Projectsweden I watched every available video last night and wished there was more to see. When I saw the first video (when you were there to just take a look) I thought this will not end well.. 😄 That was before I understood that Derrick is a carpenter. Looking forward to many more videos!
In order to avoid the language barrier, I recommend writing the order in clear handwriting or using a printer and giving the order to the seller, it significantly reduces order errors.
Good thought, but honestly I don’t think we will be buying from them again anytime soon. They advertise with ‘spend over 1000€ and get free delivery’ but then they charged 200€ for the ‘driver’ which apparently wasn’t part of the delivery 🤔 🤷🏻♀️
@@Projectsweden Do you want to say the name of that company? Of course, I understand the situation if the delivery address is really far, the distance is tens of kilometers, but it is the seller's duty to tell about it immediately at the time of sale, but still the seller could give a discount on the shipping costs. It is a scam to say that the transport is free, but later it turns out that the driver is not free.
@icebreakerdude the name of the company is on the stickers all over the building material in the video. well they wouldn’t tell us what the grand total was until we sat with them for a good hour making the list. At that point we were tired and were just like ‘whatever lets just go with it’ It was 50km away, nothing extreme. It is ok, we went on with it. But yeah, next time it’s better to get materials from a different store
@@Projectsweden I investigated the matter and found out that the use of the crane is not part of the campaign for a price exceeding 1000€, the crane has apparently been used to lift the boards. The company has only 3 offices in Lapland. In Finland, the largest stores selling construction materials are K-Rauta (Kesko) and S-Rauta (SOK)
Da habt ihr aber echt Glueck gehabt das nicht mehr passiert ist. Toll das dein Mann so ein guter Handwerker ist und alles selbst machen kann! Mange hilsen fra Danmark

Hi , just found your channel today and have watched all of them back to back and found them very interesting. Thank you for sharing. We are from Essex in the UK.
I love your videos but your timeline is confusing. I watched the Q&A video and know you bought the house in 2022, moved to Sweden in 2023 but what year is this video?! Present day, 2023?
Hi! Yes sorry i agree it is confusing. We bought the house march 2022, moved in august 2023. That video hovever was filmed 2 months ago (june 2024) I filmed a whole bunch but made the youtube channel 2 years after filming. So some are older videos from pre-moving and some are of right now. From now on it will be just now. If i get time to edit the in between it will be clearly stated. Like; back in October 2023. Hope that helps
@@Projectsweden Thank you. Now it makes sense. Looking forward to many more videos. I love your hands on approach. Not many Sweden videos have that. Not a big fan of sitting by the window, drinking tea and listening to relaxation music. 😁… and many sweden YT tuber are doing exactly that …. Very happy that I found you.
Thanks for taking us along on your journey. I would have thought the water heater would have had a pop off valve that instead of exploding allows steam and water to escape when it gets too hot. Also I was wondering about the building codes in Sweden. Do they have restrictions where you guys are? I have heard that the building codes in some countries in Europe are pretty strict. Just wondering.
Well that is what should have happened with the boiler. It must have had a manufacturers default. Honestly it was giving issues from the start. And yes sweden has building codes too. But they are less strict than the countries we have lived in :)
Hi again! Sitting here and reading news online, scrolling through SVT Nyheter....and you turned up!!! How cool, hope that will boost your channel, as a side effect! You both looked mighty fine in the short clip from SVT 🤗 Cheers from Göteborg, Katarina
Thanks Katarina! Yes Both NSD and SVT came by to interview us a little while ago :) it’s definitely nice that the media picked up our story too 👌 cheers back from the north 🇸🇪
Ein Daumen hoch für euren Kanal👍🏽 Kleine frage noch zur neuen Bodenplatte, braucht es vor dem Bodenbelag nicht noch eine Dampfbremse? Grüsse aus der Schweiz👋🏽

great video - love your cute home. thank you for sharing your journey. fyi: homeowners never run out of projects - so make hay while the sun shines. your little squirrels are super cute! can you install a tankless water heater? best wishes on the hot water situation. can't wait til the next video. Take Care
We consider a tankless water heater to begin with but unfortunately our electrical surface isn’t strong enough for it. Luckily the manufacturer send us a new one so we have hot water again 😊
Good question, we’re so short staffed here in the north that we can’t fill up all the positions. And it’s hard to recruit people from south sweden to move up north. So we expanded our search area. Since Swedish and German are both Germanic languages, it’s quite easy to learn You do need C1 Swedish though to be allowed to work in the hospital
