    Hey Chaps! Would you choose 4K LED LCD or 3.5K OLED?? 🤔
    UPDATE 1: I re-tested RS6 Siege without DLSS (2% gain), but WITH DLSS it's a 23% boost (139 vs 171 FPS)!
    UPDATE 2: For the FastHosts question, it should have been "Inventor of the World Wide Web" 👍

      Laptop Webcams are bad because the camera goes through the USB bus to connect to the CPU, unlike an ARM device like a Tablet or M1 MacBook that have cameras directly connected to the SoC for real time video and image processing. So the solution is for chip makers to make room for a dedicated PCIe connection to the webcam, so that manufacturers can source good webcam parts and not waste their potential.

      Had the 9500, but beware that the build quality is below par. My machine had way too much flex in both keyboard and screen, the USB-C charging plug was wobbly and the machine had the fans going constantly even if there was no load on the machine. Would never buy XPS again unless they adress a lot of the quality issues these machines have. One large plus is the display to body ratio on the screen, most other manufacturers should adopt this.

    For those of you guys planning on buying the Dell XPS 15, I'll give you my experience over the past 5 months of using this laptop.
    I needed a new laptop to study mechanical engineering in university. I was deciding between the Macbook Pro with the M1 chip or the Dell XPS 15. But after reading and watching hundreds of reviews online about how XPS 15 and Mac are basically the same, XPS is better for gaming, and how Mac is bad for ME, I decided to get the Dell XPS 15 in March.
    PROS.
    - The laptop arrived three weeks after I ordered it-- It was estimated to take 5 weeks, but I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived two weeks early.
    - The keys are extremely satisfying to press--which allowed me to get a lot of work done simply because I was addicted to tapping the keys.
    - The screen is very wide and filling--allows you to focus on everything you are working on.
    - Battery life--I could watch twitch streams for 6 hours straight and the laptop would still have around 55~60% (from 100%).
    - Dongle. USB and HDMI dongle included with the laptop.
    CONS.
    - The trackpad. Every time I left-click using the trackpad, it feels as though the bottom of the trackpad is getting stuck to some type of glue and once I lift my finger off the trackpad, the trackpad lifts off the glue and leaves this distasteful sound. I found this problem straight from when I unboxed the laptop.
    - 2 weeks after purchasing the XPS 15, the screen started having issues. If you divide the screen into 4 sections, the bottom right side has a constant noticeable flickering. I tried doing everything to fix it but it just wouldn't go away. Every single time the laptop goes into sleep mode or I shut it off and reboot it, this same problem persists. After awhile, I simply gave up and started ignoring the flickering. (Only thing I have noticed that helps is plugging in the charger and using the device for one or two hours and the flickering gradually fades away.)
    - Screen freezes every now and then. This has occurred around once a week for every week since March--when I first got the XPS 15.
    - In-built camera. Very crummy resolution.
    - Ports+dongles. There is a high-pitched whirring sound that does not go away if a dongle is plugged in.
    This problem does not persist if there is no dongle. However, as a ME student and gamer, I almost always use a mouse that is connected to the laptop.
    - Speakers/sound system produce momentary static if I use them for the first time of the day.
    -Customer service. Basically inexistent. I moved to a different country (for university) after buying the laptop, and Dell told me that I couldn't get any help if I wasn't in the country it was delivered to. Even with the warranty, I am basically guaranteed nothing.
    - League of Legends Gaming. The bottom half of the entire screen lags hard. It wasn't there for the first couple of weeks, but after 1 month, the entire bottom half of the screen momentarily freezes and unfreezes--constantly throughout the game. This persists until I connect the charger.
    Overall, I would say the majority of problems I have had with the computer is hardware related.
    Considering the price of the Dell XPS 15, I would trade it in for a Macbook Pro in a heartbeat and invest a bit more money in a company that has a much more reliable product and will actually help in solving problems related to their products.
    For its price, the XPS 15 is NOT WORTH. I expected a MUCH better device with close to no hardware problems.
    I Literally went two times higher than my dedicated budget and spent almost 2 years of savings (around $2400 with tax+extra for shipping) for this laptop.
    For students who are on a budget--like I was--, I would recommend a Samsung device. Before the XPS 15, I used the Samsung notebook 9 (~$1,200) for 6 years. Games (Wizard101, League of Legends, Fortnite) worked perfectly on my Samsung device for all 6 years. All the workload that my Dell seems to be unable to handle worked unbelievably smoothly on my Samsung device.
    Good luck choosing a device everyone.

    For now, there are some dealbreakers for me - short battery life (6 hours are not acceptable for work), no USB-A (that will go away, but not today), no full-sized HDMI (even bigger problem than missing USB-A for now). Plus I don't really like hardware. I don't thing this generation of Intel CPUs will age very well (Alder Lake looks much better suited for laptops) and GPU is seriously lacking memory. And if I get to the "I wish" territory then 90+ Hz adaptive sync screen would be great.

      I still don't quite get the 4K option to be honest. I've got a 3K screen at home already (3840x1440) and sure, it looks a little bit nicer with its 125ppi compared to my 109ppi 1080p screen but it's not a difference I'd kill for. Of course, these are desktop monitors and you tend to sit closer to a laptop. Even then though, you can't distinguish pixels on a 15" 1080p display from 61cm away which is a pretty standard viewing distance. I'd love to see a 1440p option as that seems to be the sweet spot for better sharpness than 1080p and better battery life than 4K with potentially room being freed up for higher refresh rates in the power budget with can also help alleviate eye strain just like higher resolution.

    Tbh, if any manufacturers can pull off a RTX card with 16:10, 2560x1600, 90 Hz on a 15 inch, that's really the sweetest spot regardless you are curators, programmers or even light gamers. And it's not like the screen doesn't exist, lenovo has this kind already, just the hardware was too old/ultrabook...

      I have 4K OLED and I would say that I would def trade the battery loss for 4K/OLED. Having seen HP 2K/3K OLED I was very disappointed and certainly no way near the unbeatable quality of 4K. However, if battery life is important then obviously QHD/OLED is better than 1080p OLED or LCD. Spending around £2000 I would always get 4K.

      Totally agree, I have a chance to compared the FHD and 4K IPS version XPS side by side for several solid hours. The 4K.screen is very clear and sharp, which is stunning, especially when consuming high quality video content , the written content of websites on 4K model is very sharp as well, but in some cases, it’s screen is “too sharp” for me and caused fatigue to the eyes for extensive use, it also in some cases makes the pictures feels “unnatural” because it’s too sharp and overly “dense”. The FHD screen, on the other hand, feels “mellower” compared to the 4K, which is a plus to me as it’s easier to my eyes for long term usage, but when I take a closer look, the resolution on FHD screen is not good enough, I can see larger pixels than the 4K model easily, in most use scenarios the FHD screen is good enough, but still not being perfect. I believe QHD is the sweet spot for a laptop screen, it can strikes a perfect balance between being “too sharp, too clear” and “not sharp nor clear enough”, not to mention the battery life would be better than 4K screen.
      One thing worth noting is that the screen quality of XPS is top notch, both FHD and 4K screens on XPSs are way better than screens on midrange and budgeting models that have the same resolution. They’re phenomenal in terms of brightness and colour accuracy, although I feel the colour is more accurate/ closer to real life colours on the FHD than the 4K, for example the orange colour on 4K is “redder”, the navy colour is leaning closer to “blue”. Maybe it’s just me but I think this is something worth mentioning.
      Overall, all XPS models have fantastic screens, top in the business, although I understand Dell needs to maximise its profit by giving the customers two options, but I wish they should just use QHD resolution screen instead.

    • @obiokeke9963
      @obiokeke9963 3 года назад +2

      @@newbieslabinc9134 No problem. technically it starts with "HD" which is 720p although we typically call 1080p HD (High Definition) now instead of the FHD (Full) that it is. I'm referring to the resolution. HD = 1280x720pixels, FHD = 1920x1080, QHD = 2560x1440, 4k = 3840x2160. All of these screen pixel resolutions are in 16:9 aspect ratio which is standard now. This laptop is pushing the new wave of 16:10 which gives a little bit more vertical room (for every 16pixels horizontally you have 10 vertically). No one really wants to remember the 16:10 resolution names (like 1200p instead of 1080p) so we just say 1080p anyways or 1080p+ to indicate that it's basically the same just a bit more height. Actually, I messed up saying QHD+ because that already refers to a 16:9 resolution of 3200x1800. I should've said 1440+ or something. Anyways, the reason why so many people would prefer QHD over 4k or this nonsense 3.5k is because it has less physical pixels which require power. Even if you have a 4k screen and set it to 1080p in the software OS, the power draw of the screen is still the same as if you ran it natively at 4k. 4k or 3.5k on a screen as small as 15inches is almost useless. Sure you might see a difference here and there, but mostly it's a waste because this is a laptop and you're using up more precious battery life for negligible improvements. The only OLED screen available for this laptop is 3.5K resolution. OLED is different than other screens because of the much desirable deeper blacks, etc. I know you probably know some of this already but I decided to cover it all just incase. And by the way, remember, this isn't an $800 laptop. You're paying anywhere from $1,600 to $3,000. The options should make more sense at this price.

      Dell is pre-empting the arrival of the mini-LED Macbook Pro 16's, which will come with 3072x1920 displays. 3200x2000 would have done the job though. For some people 2560x1600 at 15.6 inches is not quite pixel-free i.e. "retina" but YMMV.

    • @mini9503
      @mini9503 3 года назад +1

      FHD+ (Apple's Retina) or QHD would be the sweet spot. 3.5K QHD+ or 3.8K UHD are both overkill, battery life difference between the OLED and 4K on the XPS 15 won't be huge.

    • @torpedospurs
      @torpedospurs 3 года назад

      @@mini9503 Apple's "Retina" for laptops is 220ppi. At 15.6" 16x10 that will require 2920x1825, so QHD 2.5K is not nearly enough.

      Really depends on what you are doing. If you want to do video editing ot have other intensive work loads, then go for it. But know that XPS laptops aren't know for their exceptional cooling. The power limits restrain the CPU to short boosts at full speed. After a couple of minutes of a full load both CPU options will deliver about the same performance. It's really only about the gained performance in short boosts when opening an application or doing a quick photo edit export.
