A couple of weeks ago I converted a Gearit top loader to string through, using the same ferrule plate that you used. I only have a hand drill, no drill press. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I'm glad the plate covers all of my not so perfect drill work.
I actually like top loaders better than the string thru models, makes the strings more slinky and easier to bend, the ferrules made my strings very stiff, and I've noticed no additional sustain,or affect on the tone one bit, the ferrules are a pain to restring, unless your using new strings, it's become a fad to do this to top loader teles, I tried it myself, only to go back to top loading, the ferrules put too much of an angle on the strings, for me.

I like the look and it sounds very good. Still available on Amazon as I write this. Hope you feel better soon my friend.
Thanks. I'm recovered now as this episode was shot 2 weeks ago when it was bad.
