2bikemike's guitar topics
Канада
Добавлен 15 май 2015
In 2010 I knew retirement was coming and started planning to have some guitars so I could learn to play. I had wanted to since I was 9, had a Kmart guitar but no instruction. 55 years later there is you tube university with lots of folks that share how to do so many things and guitar is a big one. I've learned a lot and I share my videos in hopes they will help others as I have been.
There is an abundance of budget friendly guitars in the world these days and I like to evaluate and upgrade them to be better that they were originally made and become a really usable instrument. This hardware and pickup changes, wiring option mods and yes sometimes woodworking to get the changes done. This I do as an extension of the learning to play guitar hobby.
Motorcycling is my summer passion and guitars winters hobby mostly while shut in with mounds of snow in Canada. I got the nickname 2bikemike in the early 90s and it stuck

Are these similar to fender enforcers?
@@Indo_chef I really can't tell you because I have never heard of enforces. Sorry
looks more like the a Capitaine France Télé or ,Kapitán Yugoslavia or maybe Kapitán Nederland depending with way you look at it?
@@gavriloprincip11 It's exactly like France flag
Man good job with the details man! Love how nicely that neck fits in that pocket!❤
Waking up with a cup of coffee and finding that 2BikeMike is doing his guitar thing! Awesome! 👏
This one's a bit of a slog through all the niggly details that need addressing. Getting there!
You are good 2bikemike wow you fixed it great! I just watched a guy saying to check our pocket for levelness now I see why and just hair or a 1/64 2/64" can make a huge difference Awesome fix this was a great lesson to learn Great video 2bikemike! ✌️
Holy canoli, talk about the princess and the pea! I would never have thought that a tiny drip of finish in a neck pocket could cause so much havoc in a setup! Well done figuring it out!
Thanks for sharing, Mike. Pesky neck pocket fun is always fun (smile). Rock on!
Love the pickguard. Thanks for sharing.
What a great find and another fun journey. Thanks for sharing, Mike.
sounds great, i enjoyed watching your tostar series. i ordered the exact one for myself to start learning with; could you possibly give me any tips on how to sound like masayoshi takanaka? i feel his sound would be harder than metal etc.
Unfortunately I cannot off the top of my head give you any tips about that because I have no idea who that is. I'll have to look them up and see what I find
Hi Mike, very nice!👍🎸
Nice work Mike. The guitar looks fantastic.
Your problem solving ability is truly off the charts amazing! 😊
I enjoy the gamut of guitars and your tenacity to make them right!
Absolutely fabulous ❤❤
Hi Mike, nice playing and a great video!👍👍
I ran into the exact same setup issues with my Capricorn Classic. Took my tech a couple of weeks to and a lot of trial and error to figure it out. Where did you get the pick guard? It's stunning!
It was either Amazon or AliExpress. Can't remember, it was a while ago now.
nice!
And another brand I have never heard of. I hope one pops up at the guitar store, I would love to play it before sinking money in too one. Great video Mike.
They were on Amazon over here. Been gone for a while now. Not likely to show up in shops. They sell direct to avoid middle men markups. These are good John with the setup love.
I recently received one of these thru a guitar giveaway (Thanks J-MAN) and I think it's fantastic. The look and playability are awesome.
She'a beauty! Rock on! I the the plate on the back is to stay true to the classic teles. Hence the name Virgo Classic! ❤ Good job on the soloing! Keep rockin' man!
I feel like I have seen this video before 🤔 am I losing it? Either way great guitar! I'm still playing mine, it’s tried tested and true! Hahaha
LOL!
You may have. Today I found all the episodes set as unlisted. Don't know why, so I changed to public.
Three in one day! Bonus! Like that pickguard and that neck pup! Gettin' down with your pickin'!
I just wish these guys made lefties. Musi and West Creek make stuff that's interesting, but it's becoming plain they don't want the lefty market. Doing a Nashville will be a cool project.
Very nice telecaster the finish is awesome! I like those styles of headstocks there very 😎..she's playing great out the box very nice! The color is very nice looking also I never saw that color before it's rare lol" awesome body cut on her two Mike great buy 2bikemike!! Time to dial her in at the bench lol"
Guitar #63 Holy cowboy 2bikemike Awesome!! Very nice looking and sounding guitar looks like she gave you some hell getting her Rockin it sounds great!! That pick guard is a rare shape but so cool looking I dig it...I just learned more from you again today😂 I never knew that an uneven pocket like you had would choke out a guitar your the best neck pocket adjuster and neck pocket fixer on RUclips that's not a joke! I'm telling my viewers that on my next video who is the best guy to go to when your neck pocket is needing work and that's 2bikemike!! Awesome guitar can't believe you have 63 guitars!! 😂 Where do you find the room! 😂 I have trouble with 16 of them Wow man!?
@@ElvisPretzel-rv3bg I have plenty of room in the basement of my house.
Nice one man. Awesome guitars after a proper going over! Hahaha Happy 2025!
West Creek got the Gibsony ones more right than the Fendery ones. Harley Benton had the same issue. Weird, eh? Odd shade of blue, but it does grow on you!
That is an incredible finish
It's the flag of France.
@@AndruJorj I looked it up and it is exactly like that
Red white and Black !!!!!!!!!!!
@@theguitarprofessionals8584 Red white and blue 🔵
2bikemike i watched you drill your neck screw holes from the top is that how you do all your bodies is it the safest without chipping the wood or the paint? I was wondering because with mine i don't know if i should drill from the top or the back..now i have a guitar body I'm using all your neck pocket tricks cause your the best on here at that! Lol" and also your the best tuning machine technician on RUclips! Lol
@@ElvisPretzel-rv3bg Haha you caught me. I would normally do it from the back but in this case I didn't. From the back I would start it with the drill in reverse just to soften the edge of the Polly and then go forward if necessary. But sometimes the drill will actually go through in the reverse all the way down making it very smooth
@@2bikemikesguitartopics145 k Coolbeans! I'm glad I caught ya cause I would have followed the leader! 😂 62 guitars 😂 you are Rollin! Lol" this one reminds me of Buck Owens lol" the color scheme is totally old school Awesome!
That is a super cool and a beautiful looking telecaster! you got this on Temu wow i been getting there emails to shop there there prices are to cheap and i get second thoughts from ordering so i go to AliExpress one day I'm going to try Temu out you definitely cant beat there prices.. with high saddle screws and high string height dont we have to shim our neck then? Great guitar review as always 2bikemike! the best videos nothing but truth told love that look on that baby! Lol"
I've been surprised by temu. Good prices and stuff is the same as AliExpress. Guitars seem to be in-country, which comes in 3 days. Other stuff ships from China like Ali, except shipping is done by courier and comes in 1.5-2weeks free. Ali is not always free, and comes Post in 4-5 weeks. Sometimes depending on the seller, 3 weeks. I have now bought 3 guitars on temu and a lot of other stuff. Guitar parts are very affordable.
@2bikemikesguitartopics145 I will try them out soon then they beat AliExpress in price a lot of times they have a unfinished stratocaster hard tail body made of African mahogany for 64 bucks I'll get one soon after my Charley guitar is done. Thanks 2bikemike!! I'm shooting a video for tomorrow I have a neck pocket issue your neck pocket sanding and homemade tool method is the number one fix so your method is getting a shout out in my sit down talk video.. Thanks again for Temu's credibility Awesome!
Happy New Year, Mike. Thanks for sharing this update and rework video. Rock on!
And 2025 has begun! Good start buddy! Hash out those small details right off the bat! Nice work!
Now this is a very cool way to start the year! Really like how deep blue the back is. That's the kind of colour that makes chrome pop! It seems a few details were rushed, but that's par for the course. I don't like misaligned poles either. It may work fine, but looks-again- like the details were rushed. Happy New Year, Mike!
Happy New Year Mike. The string spacing over the pickup is ok. As ling as they are close from one side of the pole to the other. You don't want the string in the middle of two different pole. I have seen so many guitars that the pickup poles drift on the middle and neck pickup, but still works fine. Wouldn't that be wired for bridge pickup, both pickups, and then neck pickup? I measure the neck screws and make the holes the same diameter as the screws. No neck play from the screw holes and the neck gets sucked down into the neck pocket nicely.
I do the same technique for neck screws. The neck pup is dark. I got another one on temu to try, and its better but not by much. Our postal strike is over, and a full new set just arrived today from AliExpress. At this point the guitar is done, but will need to pull off the neck again to replace them. Just yesterday I had it apart installing in-line RC filters to lower the bassy end which also improved the sound. There are not many pup options in this style. I knew that prior to buying, but was hoping I'd have good luck for once. Well, I still need to manufacture my own luck as usual.
I bought the same guitar and wanted to see what you did to improve it. Unfortunately the parts I wanted to see like the rewiring and neck/fret repair were skipped or fast forwarded through. Do you have any other videos where you show both in detail?
this is how I wire a strat, but not exactly the same as on the JX20. I put two volumes on the JX20 which was my preference. that's why I kept the schematic on screen to show how I was wiring up with the new wafer switch on it. ruclips.net/video/JXFGwBGE5Ek/видео.html I have shown doing the full nesk work in previous videos, but can't recall which ones. this one shows the general work and current tools I use that are low cost. ruclips.net/video/omvQaFvECQA/видео.html I hope this helps. Happy New Year
Hi Mike….thanks for your content. I am a newbie to mods…I am going to replace the nut on my Donner DST but I can’t find any details of the nut size. Can you advise what size nut you would recommend…as the bone nut you had needed a shim. Can you tell me what height nut you would have recommended. I think the nut is 43mm width. Thanks again! Robin.
Hi Robin, the width is 42mm not 43. the string spacing on 43mm is a bit wider and could have the hi e string to close to the bottom edge of the board. the nut you need has a flat bottom. there are options out there with height of 5mm and 6mm. get the 6mm as you have that extra on your side. maybe get away without a shim. her is a link on amazon.com if you are in the USA to go for. it's 42x3.5x6mm. The nut slots on some Asian guitars are deeper for the plastic nuts which are made taller than bones. www.amazon.com/Guyker-43mm-Guitar-Bone-Nut/dp/B0D9WM2LQR/ref=sr_1_24?crid=36TALDWVBIMDF&sprefix=fender%2Bstrat%2Bbone%2Bnut%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-24&th=1 Guyker have good parts and this one is also in a black stain if you want that. You will also nee some 180 grit sand paper and a flat surface to shape the nut for a perfect fit in the slot. sometimes the 3.5mm is a tad too wide. shave off a couple of passes at a time not to go to far. you can always shave off more but can't put it back. that nut mut not be thinner than the slot. I hope this helps. send me an email if you need any additional detailed guidance. Congrats on deciding to do your own work. It's not hard to do, you just need knowledge, and this is what we do on you tube university.
I can’t thank you enough Mike, really….So kind of you to donate so much time. I will measure twice, cut once! I’ll check the links for the part…. I have tuning stability issues with the Donner…but overall for the price (I got mine on sale for £85) it’s quite incredible the quality of stuff coming out of Chinese CnC machines. I’m in the UK (London)… Thanks again Mike, I’ll let you know how I get on. Cheers. And Happy 2025!
@robinbrown7890 Okay you should be able to find the same style nut on Amazon over there. Let me know how it goes
Hola Julio, the guitar I got has a good body and neck. This is the minimum I want. Everything else I can fix or change. Mine was very decent. Not a lot of work needed. I like my frets level so I can get very low action. All 75 guitars I've bought needed fret work, so that's a given. Sometimes the pickups are poor and I decide to upgrade to my preference. Overall I was happy with this guitar.
Another great journey. Thanks so much for sharing, Mike.
62?! That's awesome, Mike! I like the looks of those WestCreek guitars, I have yet to try one. Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year to you, sir! Cheers!
@@TonJager Happy new year Ton
That's wonderful and soothing ❤
62! I've sold 8 and I'm at 11 including a bass. GAS is a major problem, but with fewer options for me to buy, I'm going to build my lap steel (hopefully i won''t screw it up too badly) and then mod JMan's present to me. That hopefully will get me to April. then, it's back on the hunt for the LP style I want with P90s. It's been quite the journey, Mike! 62! Wow! Happy new Year!
I've run out of guitar options in Canada also. I'm still looking.
62! Man you're gonna have to move soon, or build an extension haha! Great Strat styles once all of the bugs are addressed! Nice an light too! Happy holidays!
