Thanks to Amazon for inviting us down to take a look at the game ahead of its western release. Was awesome chatting to Mike Z. If you want to see the full 15 minute chat with Mike Z, it will be going up on our website later today for our premium supporters. All content on there is available at the $1 tier and access is included when you sub to our twitch. Unfortunately the audio in the interview isn't great, we didn't know we would be able to record until the day so equipment was limited and trains going by was rattling the tunnel lol. Also Mike's audio will sound different here. We've ditched the GoXLR for now so at least the audio isn't cutting anymore. May take me a few videos to get my ear in sorting out new presets for the new mixer.
I don’t think mike dislikes anime, I think he dislikes specific tropes and the stigma around anime. Give him something like “Monster” or “Psycho Pass Season 1” and I’m sure he’ll be more then engaged. I know it’s easy mindset to fall into this but anime isn’t a genre, it’s a medium with just about every genre in it. Eventually you’ll find the genre you like.
You know he's removing third body option for BP global and censoring the game aswell right they r also removing somwme swimsuits for global aswell this last part I don't rly care about to much but a lot people do they r removing boob physics for BP global
I'll need to see this release well and stay that way for an extended period before I even seriously consider it. Amazon's track record both in entertainment generally and adopting existing IPs for what Amazon thinks its market wants is a strong red flag for me. The popularity of anime generally doesn't rely on it being "westernised" and there's no shortage of examples of "westernisation" destroying what made the original worthwhile.
It's already confirmed, that Amazon is censoring and blackwashing the game to "westernize" it... Being a Lost Ark player and having experienced AGS, choosing AGS as a publisher is probably a death sentence for the game.
I'm really skeptical that Amazon will set the pity point on the gacha at a reasonable level. If you're only guaranteed the outfit you want after spending, say, $100, that's just ridiculous, even if it that amount would be way better than how it exists in JP right now. Amazon have a lot to prove, here. If they were smart, they'd do what FFXIV does: sell outfits or other cosmetic glams, at a fixed price, so you know exactly what you're paying for. No gambling. This isn't a hard concept.
All I will say is I will believe it when I see it in terms of monetization. I have seen so many companies say they are going to make it "fair" only to start out okay and quicky start going nuts because it makes more money.
Looks very interesting, though when I hear someone say "We have stop gaps to ensure that at some point if you're spending money you eventually get the thing you're looking for". Okay but that could also describe Lost Ark and spending 800$ usd on a single weapon level upgrade or 100$ dota lootboxes hitting the ultra rare cosmetic. I've touched the oven too many times, I need to fully and completely see that I'm not going to get burned again before sinking in time and money again.
They're doing this on purpose it's going to be exactly like you describe, they always use flavorful language that sounds appealing when in reality they're just doing the same shit again.
soooo the line "we want to make sure there isnt a huge gap in pwr between those that pay and those that dont" has me worried. There shouldnt be ANY gap or potential in gap. Im very much concerned the "pay to skip" is going to be so strong it essentially becomes pay to win even if its not for direct pwr
I am really looking forward to trying out Blue Protocol. It looks like Mike Z took a lot of good things he learned during his time at ArenaNet and implemented them into this game. If Blue Protocol plays like Guildwars2 but without boon spam, I'll be sold forever.
Looks interesting enough to check out if it's free to play! If it's fun I might even spend a little money on it, but if the endgame is propped up heavily by monetization I probably won't stick around and just do the story. Still, looking forward to trying it out myself!
This looks like the "Tales Of" series. If there's an MMO in that likeness that doesn't shove microtransaction shops in my face, then ill defo try it out 👌❤
Looking forward to giving this a try. Interested to see how challenging this will be PVE-wise, how deep the character/class customization is going to be, etc... Not sure I am in love with the look of the game, but it may be nice just because it's so different.
I'm exited but at the same time extremely worried because of how they handled Lost Ark with extreme censorship far more restrictive that even blizzard, and that's saying something. It's like they didn't want any skin shown or any buff / fit characters to look good in an outfit. I didn't really care about the forced diversity crap even though they went off the deep end with making sure %70 of the character charts were anything except caucasian, but it's part of a systematic problem when it came to how they handled Lost Ark. Changes nobody wanted or asked for while the real problems where completely ignored, I pray it doesn't happen again with Blue Protocol but they don't have a great track record...
I am playing BP on JP server. AGS are removing "SMALL body type" and "jiggle effect". It´s interesting to see that Mike, even on an entirely different project for a different company, still holds onto the initial (and while now after the years slightly distorted, yet still there) idea of "no holy trinity" they also had back in Guild Wars 2. Just hearing this gives me MASSIVE Core-GW2-vibes. I wonder if they can adapt his knowledge into Blue Protocol, considering that ANet had to learn their lesson in that regard. Same goes for the telegraphed attacks, it has major GW2-vibes (no surprise here either). Same as the breakbar. Or (the longer i watch the video): basically the whole development really feels the same as GW2 was initially done and intended. However: in the case of GW2, it was not that well received back then, and ArenaNet changed direction (multiple times). Of course, over 10 years have passed since then, and the general playerbase has changed since then, so it may be a smart move today. But a lot of the stuff ArenaNet tried at the time actually backfired, and it raises the question: "Is trying the same attempt again actually good?"
I like how they're advertising no holy trinity but it's in the game, it's just not enforced through gameplay. Aegis fighter is your tank and when you go into raids they tank, Blast Archer has the best heals in the game and they are expected to keep people alive (assuming their build supports it). The holy trinity is 100% in the game it's just implemented in a more lax way. You don't need an aegis fighter or a blast archer to clear content, because you can bring imagines and pots to use consumables instead. Is it as efficient? No, but it's still doable.
The game could actually be great idk but if I'm being honest the video felt a bit too much like an ad or a promo rather than an unbiased review. Focus on all the positives and too much benefit of doubt to the devs.
This was a very limited preview so It's hard to go deep into it beyond what we have been told thus far. Once we get into playing beta etc. properly, thats when we can go a bit deeper into what is good and bad. - Chris.

Such a shame its Amazon behind this western release. Notorious for bad censoring and terrible monetization(Lost Ark). Yes they somehow made it even more p2w in the western release.
LOL xD please tell me who would u want instead of AMAZON.... please TELL ME THE NAME OF COMPANY THAT IS BETTER THAN AMAZON RIGHT NOW? ... sure they made LA more p2w xD thats why it have so much problem in Korea rn xD u are amazing
Its irrelevant what company brings it West because none of them have any plans on making massive changes. The monetization for example wouldn't change regardless if Amazon, NC, or Bandai brought it West. The game was built to be a certain way and no publisher is gonna change that.
I was looking forward to this game but luckily this video openeyed my eyes in a lot of red flags. like the game already being out in asia and we getting a special version, usually games like those die real fast for some reason, and it also means the original was designed around abussive micro transaction and maybe even with being p2w in mind. sad
Oooooo, he said "we dont want you to have a HUGE difference in power between someone who pays and someone who doesnt" That means that their will indeed be a difference, which is P2W. If thats the case, sadly I am out. Also, the gearing system is horrible currently. So if that doesnt change, I cant see myself playing anyway.
I suspect you would actually quite like certain anime. I enjoy a decent amount of anime but don't like the stereotypical anime that you're probably thinking of when you say you don't like it. You'd probably have a blast with something like Mob Psycho 100 or Attack on Titan. I'm guessing the thing you don't like is the fanservice/hyperactive teenager/random slapstick tropes that you'll see in generic anime, but they aren't all like that. You like Final Fantasy which is pretty much anime in game form.
I’m kinda underwhelmed by the gear they are wearing. I hope there will be some good transmog later in the game. I’m a big fan of the looks and variety of FF14 gear.
what gear you wear doesnt really matter in this game you can wear whatever you like no gear has stats or special effects its all strictly for cosmetic purposes.
@@lukapitkanen3333 oh sorry for the explanation then but thought it might clarify that you dont need to transmog/glamour etc. just need to obtain whatever item then can wear it for as long as you want or wish to etc. there will be more outfits though i assure you as time goes on this game is still pretty new and growing given enough time it will have a plethora of things for you to try on an use 🙂just this month in fact they released a ton of swimsuit outfits for male and female characters which looked pretty decent and worth trying to get etc
Ok. I don't think is a secret anymore.. There are 3 Mikes in this video and they are all playing and talking about an anime game. Ladies and gentlemen, we got him! :D On a serious note: Thanks for sharing, this makes me look forward to the game, specially curious about the story. Hopefully it will be good, considering the work that is being put into it!
Mike should give something like Ghost in the Shell, Vinland Saga, Lupin the Third, Cowboy Bebop, Tokyo Godfathers etc. a try. Anime is not only about power fantasies for teenage boys/girls.
> easily best character creation screen Bro they hardly have any options especially for the hair, teeth, facial structure, tattoos, eye brows, eye shape, etc... > we want those raids, we want those outdoor world bosses, we want all those elements from the start. We want those things there and this is one of the things they're delaying the release for There are already raid bosses and field bosses in the JP release. You're probably going to be seeing your first field bosses at level 1-2 which is a small pink pig outside your first quest location
I like and prefer the Element combo system of Genshin or ability combo system present in GW2, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, 'Tales of' series, etc... So far from what was presented here, the abilities look cool and crisp...somehow without clutter. I don't know if ability combos like that exist in Blue Protocol, but I hope they do to add depth to the gameplay. I will wait for the full release before even getting excited, because nothing about the mounts or overworld looked interesting at all. A beautiful crafted world without stuff to do is just empty space. Puzzles, hidden secrets, chests/loots, enemies fotresses to be conquered and captured, Dungeons, waypoints, bosses, foot/mount races, dynamic events(GW2 staple and still the best), etc is necessary for me to even care tbh.
Secondary currency to buy out the certain loot box drops.... Huh. that sounds too familiar to a long year gacha gamer.... get coins from loot boxes. use the coin to buy the thing you what if you still haven't rnged out. but some games set this price tag very high.
Looks really good. Character depth seems to have a meaningful place in the game play. Animations and movement are fluid. Anime style is irrelevant, not sure why some people are so insecure about that aesthetic. Just looking for a good MMO, and from what this preview has shown BP hits that mark.
No matter how good character creation is it is not the same as jp like we were promised as far as im concerned fuck amazon and fuck global blue protocol.
sadly you cannot, all you can do is collect whats known as imagines or echos that do short burst healing. and you can offer up support to KO'd players there is no strictly healing job or combat medic in this game everyone is a dps and can generate threat but the blade warden and foe breaker classes generate alot more threat so they are often considered to be the "Tanks" while the rest are just dps/support
This was very enlightening to watch, i've been hearing about Blue Protocol for years but nothing concrete and this at least helps me think if i want to give it a go when it comes out.
wishlisted on steam. seems like a nice "in between patches" mmo for me. i always play a f2p mmo between patches of my main mmo and it used to be SWTOR but there is a amount of time i can replay the story with the 100s character xD need a new one
i dont think they know what the west wants since alot of mmos flop, yet when they see eastern mmos alot of the ideas behind what they see get them hyped. So the question is, do they really know what to adapt for western audiences?
Amazon? Pay to win? "No holy trinity"(1)? Ah yes, this is a guaranteed ... *muffled sounds of a beating in the background* .. success... (1) But, y'know, with options for increased threat (tank), healing spells (heals) and damage dealing.
isn't this game barerly mmo if at all? more like online anime game with lobbie (there is supposed to be 30 people max outside cities in open world) short instanced content?
It looks good...some initials criticisms...animations sucks..especially mount animations and while the art is phenomenal a lot of the ground clutter still looks 2D. I hope they continue to improve on these things.
so the idea that you need to adapt your in game shop to the West makes me feel for the Japanese gamers cos most shops fuck us westerners off big time if they are dialing back compared to Japan poor gamers man EDIT i do understand its a different culture over there for gaming but still sucks for them to suffer predatory practices just cos they are more used to it
at some parts it does look like there is some kind of lag between a monster beeing hit and the hit registering ... For me this is the biggest problem with games like this, either its decided by the server if you hit or not which is bound to lag or its decided by the client which hackers love so much to get instakill cheats and whatsoever which also sucks bad :(
Looks cool but I probably won't play it because it's an MMO so they will probably screw it up. Even the best MMOs aren't really particularly good games when you take a step back and really consider them vs. the wider array of experiences available through gaming, rather than just compare them to one another. Stagnant genre and from the things being shown and said, this might be a cool MMO if you enjoy the types of MMOs available already, but it's not pushing any core design philosophies that sounds particularly new for those of us that have grown frustrated with the genre.
I hope they won't follow the trend for these MMOs wherethey will make sure they give their 100% on the early content then we'll be stuck with the classic bland updates every month.
I thought preach hated anime... LOL. but seriously I've been following this game for years now, I was sad about the delay but figured it was for a good reason, get it as right as possible because many a game has been rushed out the door to their detriment.
I'm still a little uneasy about the monetization. I'm not a fan of any randomness for real money purchases. That said, I've been following it as a lot about it does appeal to me.
I love how anytime an action rpg with anime aesthetic is revealed, people immediately call it a Genshin clone. Because surely tales series, star ocean, and a few other anime action RPGs didn't exist decades before Genshin. May as well call this a botw clone, since that's the game Genshin "ripped" off of.
I think its safe to say we’ve lost mike. He will cover any garbage at this point. I get why youd want to work with amazon but youre not going to convince me this game is anything but p2w trash.
There was a time I was excited for the game. But they lost me somewhere during the development and I don't like that there is already a version in the east. For these progression type games I can only despise it to have a semi-solved path. Yes I could play for fun and not look at tips but more often than not the only thing designed is progression and not fun. Get into the progression loop and shut up. My actual work is more fun than that xD

If I could I would marry GW2 systems, events, and combat to the cool features of WoW: Legion(Dungeons, Raids, Class strongholds/Unique Legendarys/armor and weapons/identity). But that's just my opinion.
Yeah i'll Take that Back i Watched a few other Videos i'll stay at gw2 😂
bad take tbh
Such a shame its Amazon behind this western release.
Notorious for bad censoring and terrible monetization(Lost Ark). Yes they somehow made it even more p2w in the western release.

@@Ryuusaku1986 Bandai namco.
Its irrelevant what company brings it West because none of them have any plans on making massive changes.
The monetization for example wouldn't change regardless if Amazon, NC, or Bandai brought it West.
The game was built to be a certain way and no publisher is gonna change that.
I was looking forward to this game but luckily this video openeyed my eyes in a lot of red flags. like the game already being out in asia and we getting a special version, usually games like those die real fast for some reason, and it also means the original was designed around abussive micro transaction and maybe even with being p2w in mind. sad
The biggest issue this game has is Amazon. Amazon "westernizing" existing IP is a huge red flag.
Wait and see still. Not convinced about Blue Protocol. Never had fun with those games adaptation from the East.
Looks very nice, thank you for the video Mike.
As a SSF hero I’m glad to hear I have a place in this game ❤
Just hoping someone knows this or Preach reads comments: What Final Fantasy will be next after the last one he finished? (1 was the latest, right?)
He doesn't know yet, we'll see
Here are the important questions. There's fishing, and is it good ?
kinda
So, the classes are gonna kinda be like ESO, where everything can spec into whatever role you want, it sounds like.
You wanna see insane character creation, go look at all points bulletin. It blows this out of the water ten fold.
@@DeusGamez my point was that I hope there is good looking outfits in the game since nothing looked particularly interesting to me in this video.
I'm just hoping that it has a good story kinda like what world of warcraft used to have back in the day and i hope the story keeps expanding.
Amazon claiming to adjust monetization and flow for the west after Lost Ark is kinda sus.
Ok. I don't think is a secret anymore.. There are 3 Mikes in this video and they are all playing and talking about an anime game. Ladies and gentlemen, we got him! :D
On a serious note: Thanks for sharing, this makes me look forward to the game, specially curious about the story. Hopefully it will be good, considering the work that is being put into it!
This dude is really insecure of being labelled as an anime fan that he has to add a disclaimer multiple times that he is not one.
Mike should give something like Ghost in the Shell, Vinland Saga, Lupin the Third, Cowboy Bebop, Tokyo Godfathers etc. a try. Anime is not only about power fantasies for teenage boys/girls.
> easily best character creation screen
Bro they hardly have any options especially for the hair, teeth, facial structure, tattoos, eye brows, eye shape, etc...
> we want those raids, we want those outdoor world bosses, we want all those elements from the start. We want those things there and this is one of the things they're delaying the release for
There are already raid bosses and field bosses in the JP release. You're probably going to be seeing your first field bosses at level 1-2 which is a small pink pig outside your first quest location
based on some newer fan art and other stuff i have seen, blue protocol seem to be quite popular.
I see... this really reminds me of Guildwars 2
Secondary currency to buy out the certain loot box drops....
Huh. that sounds too familiar to a long year gacha gamer....
get coins from loot boxes. use the coin to buy the thing you what if you still haven't rnged out.
but some games set this price tag very high.
i actually liked what i heard from the team seems like not everthing is lost despite CCP .
So basically monetization will be the exact same as JP. Is that correct?
What is this wildly dark and blurry room you interviewed Mike Z in, it looks like you're both being held hostage lol
I miss the times you could trust RUclips content creators that didn't get paid to say how great game is gonna be.
Looks really good. Character depth seems to have a meaningful place in the game play. Animations and movement are fluid. Anime style is irrelevant, not sure why some people are so insecure about that aesthetic. Just looking for a good MMO, and from what this preview has shown BP hits that mark.
I wish classes weren't locked to a specific kind of weapon. It really ruins my customization and immersion and connection to my character.
Sounds like Weeb Wars 2... I'm in
No matter how good character creation is it is not the same as jp like we were promised as far as im concerned fuck amazon and fuck global blue protocol.
A 2 handed axe healer is my dream. I hope I can do that.
sadly you cannot, all you can do is collect whats known as imagines or echos that do short burst healing. and you can offer up support to KO'd players there is no strictly healing job or combat medic in this game everyone is a dps and can generate threat but the blade warden and foe breaker classes generate alot more threat so they are often considered to be the "Tanks" while the rest are just dps/support
Best I can do is WAR with Nascent Flash.
This was very enlightening to watch, i've been hearing about Blue Protocol for years but nothing concrete and this at least helps me think if i want to give it a go when it comes out.
If there is anything but a cosmetic only store BYEEEEEEE.
There will be
wishlisted on steam. seems like a nice "in between patches" mmo for me. i always play a f2p mmo between patches of my main mmo and it used to be SWTOR but there is a amount of time i can replay the story with the 100s character xD need a new one
i dont think they know what the west wants since alot of mmos flop, yet when they see eastern mmos alot of the ideas behind what they see get them hyped. So the question is, do they really know what to adapt for western audiences?
Not a fan of the weird censorship, but the game looks decent.
I'm always afraid when they say westernisation the west version of Archage and Lost Ark are worse than the Korean Version
that character creation looks insane
Amazon? Pay to win? "No holy trinity"(1)? Ah yes, this is a guaranteed ... *muffled sounds of a beating in the background* .. success...
(1) But, y'know, with options for increased threat (tank), healing spells (heals) and damage dealing.
Oooooo yes yes yes
isn't this game barerly mmo if at all? more like online anime game with lobbie (there is supposed to be 30 people max outside cities in open world) short instanced content?
@@wiziekyes
Get that bag Preach, but I ain't touching a gacha.
It looks good...some initials criticisms...animations sucks..especially mount animations and while the art is phenomenal a lot of the ground clutter still looks 2D. I hope they continue to improve on these things.
I won't touch the game after that interview bc Amazon making BP ki9d friendly plus they r removing third body option for the global version
so the idea that you need to adapt your in game shop to the West makes me feel for the Japanese gamers cos most shops fuck us westerners off big time if they are dialing back compared to Japan poor gamers man EDIT i do understand its a different culture over there for gaming but still sucks for them to suffer predatory practices just cos they are more used to it
at some parts it does look like there is some kind of lag between a monster beeing hit and the hit registering ...
For me this is the biggest problem with games like this, either its decided by the server if you hit or not which is bound to lag or its decided by the client which hackers love so much to get instakill cheats and whatsoever which also sucks bad :(
Im very hesitant with how amazone did their last mmo with this one though sounds looks very good if f2p i may give it a try.
Amazon killed their own game, then killed Lost Ark, and now will kill BP. Its inevitable.
Anime is _not_ a genre, its a medium. Thats like calling the Cinema... a genre.

Looks like an MMO Genshin Clone. Looks like fun.
It has absolutely nothing in common with Genshin.
I hope that UI can be pretty heavily customized, because right now it is very cluttered and ugly.
I think its safe to say we’ve lost mike. He will cover any garbage at this point. I get why youd want to work with amazon but youre not going to convince me this game is anything but p2w trash.
yea just going to be anime lost ark

Sure why not. I'm down.
we won AYAYA
There was a time I was excited for the game. But they lost me somewhere during the development and I don't like that there is already a version in the east. For these progression type games I can only despise it to have a semi-solved path. Yes I could play for fun and not look at tips but more often than not the only thing designed is progression and not fun. Get into the progression loop and shut up. My actual work is more fun than that xD
Until they flat out state "no pay to win ever", then Im out.
I just hope it doesnt feel like a job, because thats why i quit Lost Ark and many of the mmos i dont play anymore.
