Honestly, I found the only reading tracker that has ever worked for me in Bookamory, and I doubt I'll switch to notion anytime soon, but I love designing this and the brain workout that can be making complex databases (especially when there's multiple, related databases). I'm having so much fun building my own, and I figured out some things that work for me and my reading habits that I haven't seen in other templates, so if I'm feeling brave I might just take out my own personal bookish data, add a couple clarifying notes and post the template on tumblr lol. Wow! Thanks for this in-depth walkthrough. I've been waiting to see how you manage your Notion ever since you mentioned it in a past video. I'm new to Notion and still trying to figure out how it works. When you finish a book and move it from your Reading to Read view, do you have to manually move it in the spreadsheet or does it update automatically?
It automatically moves based on the filters! I have them set to look at the “Month Read” category because I only want to see this year’s reads in my “read” tab, so when I finish a book I select the month and year and set the book to “read” and it disappears from my “reading” view and appears in my “read” view! You could also have it look at the date finished, or just the status being “read” and set additional filters as you please 😊

I am going to start using Notion because of this video, though transferring my books will be a hassle 🥹 in 2023 alone I read 350 books, and this year I have read 150
Just stumbled upon this video in my recommendations (I LOVE notion and I love reading) and wasn't going to comment until I saw an error in your "Nationality" property in your author database. You have one that says "Dutch (Denmark)" but Dutch means from the Netherlands! The correct name for someone who is from Denmark is Danish. As a Dutch (from the Netherlands) person, I saw it immediately haha. Hope you don't mind this correction, your system looks incredible!
Hi! I saw that the Etsy template is not available anymore so I was wondering more specifically what it did and how you searched for something like that. Love the video. Tracking my reading gets me just as excited as actually reading does!😅
howdy fellow notion nerd❤❤ i was wondering do you backup your notion in any way? this is something i'm interested in doing as i also have very comprehensive pages.
I still haven’t started the video…but I know I will like it so very much❤❤❤… I was really expecting this video, because I have started myself trying to make a tracker of my library in Notion, but it’s been a disaster.😅😅
It's amazing how simialr our databases look, I was like "did I copy a template somewhere?!" but I know I didn't! The only thing that's different is I don't do a separate authors database, I track author and author type (a multi-select tag) on the book, but I wonder if one day I'll want to track authors for more specific info?? That ended up happening with Series, I just had a text field and a number field on the book for which series and which book in the series. But just this week I decided it's worth having a separate Series DB and to track ones that are completely published, which I've DNFd, etc. A lot of the fields you have in Series I've automated, including info that goes back to the Book DB. So all I need to do is add a new book cover image and link the books, it auto calcs percent read, Status, etc And then I take things a step further by having a reading log. It's a separate DB that can handle both physical reading and audiobooks. A bunch of calculations back to book to track progress (i.e. if I do both audio and physical, either log can move the progress forward). And it's where I track how quickly I'm reading and how many pages every day. I like seeing what I'm able to read in a month. I also have on my 2024 Goal (what you might have as Challenge I think? It kind of looked like there were two, a yearly tracking and a challenge?) calculations to see how many pages total for all the books I added that year and then shows me what I need to read each week to hit that goal. I also do "planned reading dates" on book and my Libby hold dates to show me when I can fit which book in and it has a countdown when my library book is due back (it's the same field that shows "8 weeks until available" and switches to "17 days till due back!" depending on if I have a return date filled in or not. Then the reading log links up to another small/hidden database for statistics. The button I use to create a new log auto links everything up, so it sounds like a lot, but honestly it takes me maybe 1-2 min to do everything I need to every day including adding new books to TBR, moving planned reading dates around, adding a reading log, etc etc, it's very streamlined!
Hi! Sorry, I know this is not meant to be a tutorial video lol. If you don't mind, I've been trying to figure out how you did the reading snapshot and the notification bar in the wishlist page and I was wondering if you could maybe give me a clue? I've tried to do a first attempt just very DIYed. Just with formulas, honestly. I got it to pull the data and calculate how many books there are total, and to add up the prices, and to display both numbers accompanied by their corresponding string "books in wishlist:" and "total wishlist cost:"), but I can tell that's not what you did :( Not all anywy. Any clues? Cause it looks like a single entry in a separate databse, in a gallery view. Best I can think of is you've either gotten it to display that text with a property or that's just the page's content and you've hidden all properties, which would explain the lack of the big empty space where a cover should be (shows the content instead). But in that case, how would you get it to sync? AAaaAAAh my head. If you could give me a clue, a string to pull, whatever's easiest, I'd be so grateful! Thank you in advance either way, Ik this is not a tutorial video so it's pretty out of place to ask Also, once again, beautiful and amazing notion library you've got there. Some elements, obviously, I'd love to incorporate in my own way for different uses into my own notion and I'm having so much fun figuring them all out (this one's starting to get frustrating though lol). Thank you so much for sharing your notion with us and walking us through it! It's so detailed and pretty and I love it Edit: My properties are also displayed in a font I don't like lol
Hello! On my Notion, in the gallery view, everything has a rounded corner instead of a nice square one like here. I can't figure out why and it drives me crazy. Does anyone know the reason?
love this template, even it's a bit too much for me xD i love the stats, didn't know that's possible in notion! i have one question: how do you manage authors and series for rereads? do you included them in the list or does the position remain empty? because if i would, for example, include the Author in a reread, i would have read 2 books in the list but it's actually just one book. i hope you understand what i mean, my english is not the best😭
It depends on how you want to handle rereads. You could just mark the book reading again (and maybe add a property for dates reread) or you could duplicate the book and indicate it’s a reread, in which case it would be counted twice. I don’t reread very often so I haven’t worried too much about it, but it’s certainly not perfect! I’d be curious to hear how others handle rereads in their trackers ❤️
Thanks for this video, I'll try ChartBase, it looks really cool! I'm doing a Read the World Challenge too, and the total number of countries is around 197, unless you're using other criteria for the challenge..?
I have one question: Do you always update on your computer as you go when reading a book or is all of this accesible to you on your phone as well? Like adding trigger content-label etc.
It’s all available on the mobile app! I tend to update all the triggers/content warnings as they come up so I don’t forget, so I’m pretty much always adding those on the app on my phone. It’s very easy to use!
Only now I got the time to actually pay attention to the video and I have a question: is it hard to navigate this type of setup on your phone? I use Notion mostly on my phone, so I try to keep things more simple and practical instead of pretty because I just know I would end up not using if it was harder to deal with it. I'm late, but thanks for the video!!!!!
It works great on mobile! I use the “books” database the most (I actually made a little shortcut icon on my iPhone to take me right to that database) so I can see my tables and quickly tap on a book to enter all the individual book details I like! I don’t use the homepage much on my phone, though.
Regarding your read the world challenge, can you clarify what you mean by "there are 120 countries in the world"? Last I checked there were 195 recognized by UN. Are you not counting certain countries?
There are, you’re right! I realized after I published the video that I’d put a placeholder in there and never updated it 😂 I didn’t notice because geography is definitely not my strong suit lol
If I could port in my Access database, so that it is mobile (something Office 365 has not solved yet, without buying some sort of network package or something), I'd love to do this. This is very cool! I don't have quite this level of granularity in some of the categories, but I do have all my reading data back to about 2005 (I think? I goes back a ways bc I loaded all my paper reading journals into Goodreads then exported that into a csv file to populate the Access db as a start back in....2012?)
I wonder if anyone can help - I’m trying to make a Reading Snapshot for 2023 and pre-empt one for 2025 but the books added never show up in it - can anyone suggest what I’m doing wrong?
@ hi, I did not and have tried to work out where to do this but I’ve got a bit lost. In the property setting, multiple books show under the link but they never appear in the ‘read’ total?
I still use Goodreads to track the books I’ve read, any book I might want to read, and to post reviews! But my Notion tracker allows me to get a lot more granular/detailed in what I track for my own use ☺️
You must try "Voyagers of hell" to admire how an original story can be written with good research at the times when original content is becoming rare in literature.
lol yes you are correct! Honestly no idea where I got that number from haha I must have put it in as a placeholder meaning to check later and never did 😂
Nowhere in the thumbnail or title did I say “free template” - I’m sorry you felt your time was wasted but you could certainly build this yourself with a little time if you wanted to!

I still haven’t started the video…but I know I will like it so very much❤❤❤… I was really expecting this video, because I have started myself trying to make a tracker of my library in Notion, but it’s been a disaster.😅😅
Oh no, I’m sorry it’s been a struggle! I hope this video helps ❤️
this is amazing omg :0
Thank you! ❤️
I love the over-the-top! Somebody gets me!
My inner data nerd is thrilled. My ADHD brain wouldn’t let me keep up with it. But oh, do I wish it would! Breathtaking! Thanks for sharing ❤
I, too, have ADHD and honestly the over organization/categorizing is definitely a coping mechanism for the chaos in my brain 😂
You make it look so easy but I struggle with Notion. Looking forward to the template!
It took me some time to get the hang of it/understand the logic but now I feel like I can build anything I can imagine, which is so cool! ❤️
So all I need to do is add a new book cover image and link the books, it auto calcs percent read, Status, etc
And then I take things a step further by having a reading log.
I... thought I was using Notion effectively, but now I'm realizing there is so much I don't know how to do 😅
This so tickles all my little Virgo traits! 🤣
Love this
Do you a template 😢
notion just introduced charts!!!
I saw! I’m excited to try it out 🥰
I have a question, how do I make snapshots of previous years? Can I even do that?
Thank you in advance either way, Ik this is not a tutorial video so it's pretty out of place to ask
Also, once again, beautiful and amazing notion library you've got there. Some elements, obviously, I'd love to incorporate in my own way for different uses into my own notion and I'm having so much fun figuring them all out (this one's starting to get frustrating though lol).
Thank you so much for sharing your notion with us and walking us through it! It's so detailed and pretty and I love it
Edit: My properties are also displayed in a font I don't like lol
Hi, the linked provided doesn't work for me 🤷🏽♀
Directs to Notion's home page. Do you have another link?
Notion has a free plan, so that’s right! There’s no discount since you can do almost everything for free ❤️ (I actually use the free plan!)
this is gorgeous! i abandoned my notion to use excel lol but 👀👀
😂❤️
Hello! On my Notion, in the gallery view, everything has a rounded corner instead of a nice square one like here. I can't figure out why and it drives me crazy. Does anyone know the reason?
How do you get that every table gallery etc background is grey 😃
I created a call out first then inserted whatever I wanted into that call out!
@@PlantBasedBride Thanks you - love you notion it's so aesthetic😍
@@whatnoellereads5016 Thank you! I'm mildly obsessed with it 😅
love this template, even it's a bit too much for me xD i love the stats, didn't know that's possible in notion!
i have one question: how do you manage authors and series for rereads? do you included them in the list or does the position remain empty? because if i would, for example, include the Author in a reread, i would have read 2 books in the list but it's actually just one book. i hope you understand what i mean, my english is not the best😭
Yes, I’ve already fixed that! I just put a placeholder in while I was building it and forgot to update it later.
@@PlantBasedBride Thank you for responding :) I am contemplating using the free month and trying it out.
YAAAAS!!! 👑
❤❤❤
Regarding your read the world challenge, can you clarify what you mean by "there are 120 countries in the world"? Last I checked there were 195 recognized by UN. Are you not counting certain countries?
There are, you’re right! I realized after I published the video that I’d put a placeholder in there and never updated it 😂 I didn’t notice because geography is definitely not my strong suit lol
Can you please do an updated Apple Watch video?
Aww kitty!
I feel like there is an alternate universe version of you that became a software engineer 😊
That’s super cool! It’s definitely a bit of a process to import years of reading into a new system. My strategy is just a little at a time 😅❤️
Notion can import via CSV, which Access should be able to export to. It's been a while since I've looked at Access though.
but what were the 17 behind the scenes things?
Trying to create this is so confusing😵💫
I wonder if anyone can help - I’m trying to make a Reading Snapshot for 2023 and pre-empt one for 2025 but the books added never show up in it - can anyone suggest what I’m doing wrong?
Did you make sure that the relation goes both ways I’m the property setting?
@ hi, I did not and have tried to work out where to do this but I’ve got a bit lost. In the property setting, multiple books show under the link but they never appear in the ‘read’ total?
Can you PLEASE share the template
I want it so badly
It is available to my patrons! You can join the pbb collective or pbb book club tier to get it ❤
I want to use a notion tracker but I also want it to be social :(
I still use Goodreads to track the books I’ve read, any book I might want to read, and to post reviews! But my Notion tracker allows me to get a lot more granular/detailed in what I track for my own use ☺️
Where I can I get this template?
You must try "Voyagers of hell" to admire how an original story can be written with good research at the times when original content is becoming rare in literature.
120 countries of the world??? Isn't it about 195?
lol yes you are correct! Honestly no idea where I got that number from haha I must have put it in as a placeholder meaning to check later and never did 😂
Hahaha I was so confused 😂 thanks for clearing that up!@@PlantBasedBride
This is some Olympic level shit right here. God damn!
Haha why thank you 😂❤️
it would have been more better to have a template:
Aaaaand the template is for your patreons... you wasted almost an hour of my life
If you were honest you would have said it at the beginning, never watching again
Nowhere in the thumbnail or title did I say “free template” - I’m sorry you felt your time was wasted but you could certainly build this yourself with a little time if you wanted to!
@@giulia480 She literally said at the start of the video that it was for her patreons lol. Getting mad for no reason. Very entitled attitude.
