    I recently took new Meimon Ferry Fukuoka from Shin Moji to Osaka. Pax are basically 3 types. 1) Cheap fare to Osaka, 2) Driving to Osaka with family or by self, 3) Truck drivers. The ship fills with trucks to capacity. The drivers stay in economy berths. They drink heavily which is why so much alcohol is sold in vending machines and the ship’s store. Ferry provides service set glasses and ice bucket. Its fun for the truck drivers - no overnight driving and they can get drunk. It’s a booze cruise. Meimon stops alcohol at 11 pm. It’s a good thing otherwise the drivers drink all night. I can understand cut off at 10 pm as a safety measure. The drinking gets a bit out of hand. Both the families and the truck drivers love the buffet. There is a line when it opens. The drivers eat huge plates of food. Life on the ferry is good for them. They drive off in the morning with hangovers. The big ocean ferries are really booze cruises!

      Actually, I like "Meimon Taiyo Ferry" the most. There are so many truck drivers that it's free and easy for men. And some people drink alcohol side by side until midnight, so it's very interesting to watch.

    Another great video, I love your sub titles ! The outside colour of the ferry reminded me of the Polish flag, white over red, people from Poland will love it. The food is amazing. Another thing that surprises me about Japan is the love of vending machines; they certainly sell an enormous variety of products. In Australia vending machines are not seen that much; but we do love Kylie Minogue...♫ I should be so lucky...♪♫.

    Enjoyed the journey. Glad you can get a discount fare on line, 4 days in advance. I'm used to the door not having an outside lock, but I can't for the life of me figure out why they chain the chair to the floor. Regarding your dinner and breakfast . . . I have never seen, at least recently, buffet prices so low. You got a bargain. Considering all you had the choice of, the roast beef was my favorite. When in open sea, the scenery was awesome. Will join you on the next one. Take care. 😊

    • @DrakeFeatherwing
      @DrakeFeatherwing 2 года назад

      I would assume it's in case they encounter super choppy seas so that the chair doesn't get tossed about and injure someone in their cabin... Y'know, to avoid liability.

    • @gloriawatson

      @braves9652 2 года назад

      Absolutely it is to keep the chair from moving around during sea travel. Imagine trying to sleep while that thing is moving around!! It would be pretty difficult to steal that chair. Try walking off the ship, carrying that bright yellow chair without being noticed.

    6:23 - YES, there is a grounding wire in the outlet! And, on a ferry, that is so wonderful! So, you can bring an "earthing" pad on the trip, and remain healthy and grounded the entire time!

I wonder how the vending machine prevents people under 20 from buying cigarettes? I like the vibrant colors on this ship. Makes the ferry feel festive & very pretty. The price of the room $118 USD = 2,730,132 VN Dongs. You are a millionaire. What if you don't want a room. Is there a place to sit and sleep like in a bus? Happy Trails

    I am not really understanding why the beer machines turn off at 22:00? In Japan, 24/7 access to beer is sort of taken for granted at the convini, or hotel vending machines. Do they maybe want to try to keep the truckers in decent shape for disembarkation?

      I wondered that too only thing I can think of is maybe a handbag holder or for backpacks to hang on so it's not at the back of your seat where ppl could swipe it ?

    The lights going out are for several reasons, main being: 1. Staff need to have a prescribed rest time 2. dimming the lighting psychologically tells the brain it is night. it might be dark outside but the bright lights can trick you into thinking its still day and mess with sleep patterns. Dimming the lights is a great thing.
    Very much not a fan of the inability to lock the door upon exiting. Seems like a rather large safety concern to me.
    Buffets here can cost anywhere from $20AUD all the way up to $60AUD. And that is for basic buffets. The fancier you start getting and the more expensive it becomes. Also usually need to purchase drinks seperately.

    Mate, in Melbourne Australia this feed would cost almost AUD $40.00 (Yen 3670.40 or USD $26.28). That is what it cost me some five years ago. Last week; I purchased a tray of Sashimi (two small strips of salmon, one prawn flattened on a rice lump and half a dozen small California Rolls, and it cost me AUD $14.00 (Yen 1284.64 or USD $9.90) I think I will emigrate to Japan.

      I can't go on a trip in Australia because food and restaurants are more expensive than Japan.

      @@shibatravel Thank you for your comment Solo San. It is a great pity things are so expensive in Australia; especially food. One day I hope to make a trip to Japan and travel those ferries. Thank you again my friend. Sayonara!

    I will be traveling with my family in November and it is not our first trip to Japan we would like to take a ferry for the first time. Questions: is it a convenient time of the year to make a ferry trip ? And Which one do you consider is the best ferry (newest, nicest) ? Thank you.

    • @shibatravel
      @shibatravel  2 года назад +1

      It's cold and dark in November, so you may not have much time to enjoy the scenery on the night ferry. So if you want to see the scenery, you should choose a route with a long daytime voyage.
      But I think it's better to choose a ferry depending on your travel destination.

    fee for buffet is equivalent to 10 USD? Are there many bones in the fish? You really seem to like that Aussie beef. I have had seaweed it's not bad actually. I went to a chain Asian buffet called Izumi. Whoopi doesn't look so good anymore. I will guess 137 dollars for the room.
