Should You Squat On Plates?

  • Learn why people squat on plates today with ‪@C3Muscle‬. Simply put, it's a method to manipulate technique similar to a weightlifting shoe (though not as stable). For some lifters, a raised heel allows them to assume a more optimal squat. #SHORTS

    These stretches really improved my squat technique. I used to feel like I had to force myself into parallel or below, but now I feel like I can squat atg comfortably, even barefoot. Even better is these stretches will immediately grant you better range of motion and eventually create a more permanent increase in rom so you don’t absolutely have to do them before every squat session.

    I have very good ankle dorsiflexion because of which I'm able to squat ATG without butt wink. My spine stays upright. My advice to fellow lifters who have tried everything but can't get rid of butt wink is that try to increase your ankle dorsiflexion. The more your knees move forward, the less you'll see the dreaded buttwink. Buttwink is pretty bad for your spine. Try to eliminate it ASAP

    This is exactly why I don’t understand why it’s not standard to squat barefoot. Having a certain sized platform angle under your heel of course maximizes your physiology to make you lift more. That’s like using a wedge when you bench to help you arch.

    • @asprinklingofclouds
      @asprinklingofclouds Год назад +1

      No it's not, the wedge is to focus the work on the squads, not the glutes and lower back, and you are in fact increasing the range of motion not decreasing it as per your bench press comparison.

    Hi Aaron, I've got a question. Will this techniques be optimal for someone with plate on their fibula?
    I've broke my fibula about a half-year ago and the MD (orthopaedist) said that he'll remove about a year after the surgery. For now I use a weightlifting shoe (Reebok lifter PR II) and stretch my gastrocnemius and soleus by standing in front of the wall and broken leg behind healthy, pushing on my feet (broken one) with body weight. Also I do some foam rolling of my calf after this. How do you rate this drill?

    • @user-rb1yf4he9q
      @user-rb1yf4he9q 2 года назад

      Fibula does not provide majority of support for the lower leg. Only 10% (approx). . As long as bone has completely healed, you should be fine with what is considered normal squat weight, which is up to 150% of body weight. The concern if you haven’t been squatting for a while is hips, back and ankle flexion under load. You might try step ups, hack squat and front squat before attempting to do a heavy back squat. I am a sports physical therapist.

    ✋ Hold it! The knees should be lined up with the toe but BEHIND the toe when squatting. You risk SEVERE injury to your patellar tendon and arthritic pain in your knees if this isn't done CORRECTLY. The knees should NEVER be coming over your toes when squatting. 👀😳 Before I became a Naturopathic Doctor I warned all my clients of this when I used to be a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach for the football soccer and track team at a university.

    Am genuinely asking what are the benefits of doing squats

      They're the best exercise for your legs and butt. Your core is engaged as well when doing them and it's a compound exercise so it picks up loads of little muscles other exercises will miss. Any programme worth it's salt will have squats in it.

    I found not using trainers and using squatting shoes or canvas shoes helps me to do that. Don't squat with trainers like this guy is wearing and get squatting flat sole shoes or canvas shoes.
