Am I the only one who is actually enjoying him reporting about what’s going on in the city, the conditions and the financial situations for apartment renters and owners as well as all the citizens in an around the city? I actually enjoy the news reporting more than the original tours of apartments. I think it’s a wonderful mix that he has done in the past with his travels, with his family, and now on the subjects that concern all New Yorkers, good job cash keep up the good work

They put in more cameras every year on the guise of SAFETY and SUSTAINABILITY but this is a MIDDLE CLASS TAX. Fuck everything about this. This is a situation where I have yet to find a single citizen who is in support of this change yet the government desperately running out of money is looking for ways to milk the last little bit of money from any law abiding citizen they can.

Hi. A congestion charge is a great tool to persuade people to use the road during less busy hours meaning that more can drive into the city. If you don't like congestion charges. What alternatives do you suggest? Thanks!
As an insurance adjuster, I've seen so many situations where people file claims against other drivers using just a plate number to identify them and it ends up pointing to the wrong car/household. It's really bad!
That;'s a damn nightmare. Imagine one of those clowns getting in a serious accident with injuries and he doesn't even have a plate number. Who's paying the bills?
They whole plan of Big Government is to eliminate the middle class. They knowingly set this up..with every understanding that businesses will collapse and fail.. You need a President that wants America to be wonderful!
It’s not just that NY politicians (and even the voters) have too much power, it’s that they are so amazingly bad at running things. Eventually, the financial sector will leave, and you’ll start watching NYC, and most of the state, decay.
Had something similar in major cities in my country for environmental reasons. In the end truckers refused to deliver anything inside "the fart sniffer bubble" and the snobs there got pissed they couldn't get their sparkling water anymore so it got revoked after just two months.
Here in the UK the cloning of number plates is a problem. There have been people in Scotland who have received fines from London. Not only have some of them never been to London, some have never even been to England.
Interesting. I was wondering the "rampant illegal driving" thing was a problem elsewhere. They say that like 20% of drivers are illegal in some Florida cities.
@@653j521 Various kinds of illegal. In Florida, the problem is mainly with vehicle insurance, licensing, and registration. Also, those tinted license plate covers mentioned in the video. Different than congestion pricing, but the open defiance of the law in broad daylight is still there. Or did you think I was referring to immigrants?
@@TheRealE.B. It's a simple cost to benefit analysis. If your daily commute includes tolls, and you compare your monthly toll bill versus how much a no plate or plate cover ticket costs in your state, it's pretty clear why people are doing this. There's also people who try to be more clever about it, e.g. affixing a small trailer or bicycle to obscure a plate, or poorly displaying a plate through the rear window or dashboard
Number cloning is not just a NY or UK thing, it happens in Brazil too, have seen some cars of people getting fines from down south when they have never been there before
Had to stop watching for a bit. It was a bit depressing. But in spite of the louder voice against it, this is scriptural about what is going to happen in the last days before Christ’s return! I still feel bad for New Yorkers suffering because of someone who probably makes more money than any number of people on the sidewalks of the city yet they refuse to be law abiding like the lions share of the public!
This is one time I actually agree with those disobeying these unjust laws. These new players readers are borderline tyrannical. Kudos to them and I hope more follow suite
I agree paying to drive, bike lanes, road diets. These must be people who never drove a car to understand that you needs cars and people are going to drive. Nothing else better to do than victimized drivers. Law suits should start flying 🤔.
Just one more law that affects middle and lower class law abiding citizens. Everything is going to increase in price. Workers coming in to work on your apartment? Price raise. Restaurants price raise. Absolutely insane.
This is all to make room in their budget for 2 billion for illegals they allowed in. Who do nothing but commit crimes and freeload. How New Yorkers haven’t taken their own “officials” hostage is beyond me. America is pretty much gone. Just tolerating being oppressed.
Yeah who do you expect to pay for things!? It's not gonna be the rich people or the stay at home people, they're too important to pay their fair share! >.>
Why don’t we all get together and protest this Bs so that way it won’t happen? Power in numbers. Fuck MTA and the dumbass politicians who support this. Their pockets are lined
NYC gov't is hell-bent on staying the course of stupidity. Good luck, it's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better. What's next, a $5 poop flushing fee? (Probably shouldn't give them any ideas 😉)
I’m a New Yorker here in Brooklyn, don’t own a car but yet the city is becoming unbearable to live in. I’m about to move into an apartment not too far from where I live but plan to leave New York as it’s becoming a difficult time to adjust my lifestyle here. I love New York City but the love for it is slowly dying.
If you move to a state that is "Red" and much more livable/affordable, remember that NYC's voters/leaning brought that stupid sh!t about. All their fault
The city never was broken until now with the constant complaining about cars and how the park and drive. Sound like a bunch 2 yr old. Need a pacifiers babies.
I just want to point out that the truck where the plate was under the lift gate, thats a fairly normal place to stick the license plate on those trucks. When I worked for Penske truck rental almost all the trucks had their plates mounted there. Ya i get its hard to see it for a camera, but its in full view to meet the law that states it must be visible for DOT/police. Also for the USPS van, they dont need plates, a Post Master explained that one to me. The ID number on the van (seen in the video briefly on the upper side of the left rear door) is how the post office tracks the vans and deals with registration, no need to stamp out thousands of US Government plates for the mail trucks.
I heard that these are tolls are additional the regular tolls already in place. So Lincoln Tunnel would be like $32.00 during peak times. Brooklyn Bridge/Manhattan Bridges and maybe the Williamsburg bridge are not toll bridges. Also residents of Upper Manhattan (Above 60th street) are preparing for parking garages to increase their fees and for street parking nightmares.
And only if you can prove that with motive, but if someone was intending to murder someone with a vehicle, would they use their own car? There a quite a few road rage instances where they could not prove intent, so it was manslaughter. @@LiamMartens
@@Winterascent so then by this logic a car is a pretty good way to get away with murder if you are so confident it would mostly be categorized as manslaughter if it is difficult to prove intent. I'm glad someone is still documenting this and I hope NYC doesn't come to attack your livelihood next.
I actually miss seeing apartments on this channel and what they're going for right now. Since stats "claim" NYC rents are the most stable in like 2 years, it would be great to see the great deals right now, especially in off peak season.
When I was in England I heard about vigilantes spray painting cameras black and dismounting them. The more cameras they put up the more they get vandalized and the vandals are viewed as working man heros.
If people haven't figured out that NYC isn't for the common man yet....they never will. A city built to be catered to the whims of millionaires and billionaires.
It wasn't always this way. I grew up in NYC in the 1980s, and it wasn't this expensive. Middle class and working class people could afford to live there.
One of the biggest issues we have here in Maryland (especially "Baltimore") is folks registering their cars with VIRGINIA tags w/o any residency in that state. This is also driving up the taxes in MD when someone with said VA tags get in an accident and aren't insured, so MD has to pay the difference in damages to the other motorist(s) involved
Cash, I legit never thought of the businesses that rely heavily on transportation. I thought the fees would only apply to cars and saw it as annoying. Now that you’ve changed my perspective, this totally blows my mind, and it’s absolute insanity to apply this congestion fee in the city. Wow 😢
Part of the plan is to encourage trucks to go into that part of New York City at off peak travel hours, do repairs at night, deliver items at night. Why deliver food at Rush Hour? Thus lower fees when traffic is less. People will adjust to work around these fees which is the intention.
@@paulmentzer7658As a former OTR refrigerated trucker I'd just avoid taking loads anywhere Near NYC!! Y'all can starve and turn into 'Escape from NewYork' for all I care.

@paulmentzer7658 Not every business can do overnight deliveries. No matter how many supporters of this try to spin this, this will increase costs for everyone even if they don't drive like myself This is a scam and I hope it fails in the courts. This will hurt people in the long run
@@Mira_linn Please don't sugar coat this situation. Charging the people to drive within its own city limits is inmoral and criminal. The city needs to stop the mis manage of city moneys. Can’t squeeze blood from a stone…at what point do they reassess their policies that lead to the most expensive, highest taxed city in the country being broke? Seriously, how does it get this bad while the ppl just keep taking it? Insanity
Thank you Cash for pointing this major problem out. The only ones who suffer here are the working and middle class law abiding people who are most likely to pay the fines that add to the city’s revenue. That’s revenue supposedly used to pay for the MTA’s deficit which is made worse by turnstile jumpers and other fare evaders. NYC is not friendly to those who aren’t cheats and thieves anymore.
I don't blame people at all for finding ways to stop from being robbed by this horrible city. The greed is out of control. I hope people wise up and abandon this city one day.
And that is just one of the many reasons cities are in debt. People do everything they can to avoid paying taxes, but that doesn’t eliminate the essential functions taxes cover.
@@rc100692 I would agree...if those taxes were used responsibly. But with all the corruption I wouldn't give a cent and don't blame anyone else for not doing so either.
@@rc100692 Other places that implemented congestion pricing fixed up the transit FIRST to give people an alternative. That makes sense. NY has never managed to fix it and only keeps finding new ways to charge people. Trust me, no matter how much they raise, they will not improve the transit. But we will hear in a couple years that the price has to go up anyway. The same thing happened with water rates here. Water used to be free. Then they started charging because "we need money to fix the aged infrastructure." At some point they raised the rates and continue to raise the rates because "people have cut back on water usage". These are revenue generating programs for NYC, no matter what other goal they claim. By the way, the water infrastructure is still breaking down.

So that means services, food and other things that are important that cannot take public transportation will go up. As someone who manages a small electrical business, this is how it’s done. The 10k folks evading it should be heralded as heroes.

Generally for living because density makes it easier to do things like walk and take transit, meet people. It gives you the freedom to have a night out without having to worry about parking, who's going to stay sober, or paying $80 to lyft to and from. Not to mention density means more economic opportunity, more job options that sort of thing. There are all kinds of reasons you'd want to be in a big city.
This will reduce the traffic for sure. But there's always a two side of the coin. Casual tourist that used to go to the "City" will now rethink where they will spend time and money. Rather than the Big Apple, areas surrounding the City will instead become of viable option instead.
As a Euopean I've tried to say the same things many times in "Not just bikes" videos... That the idealized narrative he sells only really works if you're a upper-middle or upper-class citizen. This is what's happening in many European cities: - 1. It always starts with NIMBY building policies to prevent new construction to preserve the "identity" of the city. - 2. After housing and rent prices have gone through the roof they remove public infrastructure like street parking for residents, which disproportionally affects the working class who are most likely to to need a vehicle for their job, or they work in areas with poor public transport options. The upper-middle class is most likely to work in the city centre in areas that have great public transport, or that can be easily accecable by bike, as well as being much more likely to live in new construction that has built in underground parking, or is able to afford underground parking near where they live. Or they are just straight up rich enough to own houses with garages within the city. - 3. When the working class have moved out of the city due to sky-high rent and no street parking, they gentrify the area for the rich upper middle class. - 4. The working class who were first forced out of the city now have to commute back in for work, leading to a huge increase in congestion in and out of the city. - 5. They put up toll booths on roads leading in and out of the city, disproportionally punishing those working class people who no longer could afford to live there, but still have to commute in for work. TLDR; It's cheap to be rich, and expensive to be poor.
At least in most of the Europe you have incredibly convenient public transportation, to and from the bigger cities. US and NYC has completely dysfunctional systems in place. So if you are outside of the city, transportation is often out of the question. There are hundreds of thousands of people entering Manhattan just from New Jersey every day (which is just across the river), yet the most recent infrastructure project to connect to NYC was complete in 1930s. These are overcrowded and often fail :/ Lincoln tunnel: 1937, Holland tunnel: 1927, North River train tunnel 1908, George Washington bridge: 1931, Path train tunnels: 1908. And don't get me started on healthcare :/
@@opart Yes definitely, It's a case of "Carrot and stick". The best thing to do is to investing in infrastructure to support great public transportation and alternative means of transport, but not at the expense of those in society who are the least affluent. Across the pond, London has been doing something similar for a few years now. THEY MONITOR EVERY VEHICLE THAT ENTERS THE CITY AND WHEN THEY LEAVE (Besides having cameras EVERYWHERE that the police monitor.) Big Brother is alive and well.
I can see, barely, congestion pricing for passenger vehicles being an okish idea. But charging more for trucks that the city relies on is incredibly short sighted. Yes, the city may briefly increase revenue, but when businesses go under, and new businesses refuse to open, this is going to cause not just a loss in revenue, but a crisis
They don't care, they will just find another way to steal your money, like they did charging for grocery bags to combat global warming lol, when most of the store is filled with plastics.
it's an ok idea only if the public transportation becomes efficient. But it's absolutely the worst. I've been driving in the city for about 15 years, and if the traffic was bad before, it really got terrible when Uber and Lyft got huge. Now 8 out of 10 vehicles in jams are Uber/Lyft services (you can see it by T license plates). If it was about congestion the city should have restricted limousine services. And it's mostly New Yorkers who take these, contributing to the problem. Understandable though, not too many people want to take subway nowadays.
I do not own a car and I live in Alabama the most car dependent state in America three cars for every home I cycle everywhere a car goes just fine plus I can go where a car can not
That is the plan, if to have to DRIVE to that part of NYC, you will pay the toll. If you can AVOID paying such a fee by NOT driving in that part of NYC, you will not drive. That should REDUCE traffic congestion making it easier and faster for those drivers who have to drive in that part of NYC. Traffic congestion is excessive in that part of NYC and there is no other way to solve that problem except by rationing by pricing.
Me too! Haven't been to my "Hometown" in more than 2 Decades since I escaped, and I don't plan on ever going to visit again! They can Keep "The Rotten Apple"
For most businesses, they are going to increase their prices to account for these tolls. Any extra money a business has to pay goes to the customer. It’s also going to discourage tourists driving into the city. It’s going to hurt lower and middle class people with paying these tolls. Rich people and politicians don’t ever pay extra fees. What is the toll money being used for? I don’t see this being good for NYC. It’s just going to add to the many problems that the city has already.
That's a good question there. I'm sure the politicians already have an answer. Maintenance and other factors probably for mta. Also, if you think about it, plenty of mta workers let people ride the subway without paying for the fare even though they are in debt.
I used to drive for a service company and anytime I was denied access or had a toll placed on my vehicle I put the customer on an "in-store" repair only. In other words, they no longer received field service and were required to bring their equipment in for service.
The money is generally used to help improve public tranit. Sadly you live in one of the worst countries for public transit since we put all our eggs in the car basket. Ther last 2 generations are who have fucked us towhere we are now.
NYC had an idea to raise the price of a parking ticket in the 1980's. That idea was ditched. They keep it at an "enticing amount" so motorists take a chance at parking. They don't want to reduce volume of vehicles because they will lose money.
"Move Out of New York State Before It's Too Late" was a rally cry 30 years ago from the owner of the Oak Beach Inn on Long Island. Words that were prophetic and still hold true today as things have steadily gotten worse over the years.
Very surprised that the car jail is only $20 a day. Here in my home city it's an easy $75 or more. I had my 2017 clutch go out and HAD to park it in a random parking lot late at night Fri.(massive lot and tons of space) and got it out Mon with fees and everything close to $675!
I was working a service job in the Bronx in the beginning of covid which required me to drive and park to 6-8 buildings a day. They suspended some parking restrictions for obvious reasons, but the amount of unplated, seemingly abandoned cars double triple sometimes quadruple parked was absurd.
Why don’t they make exceptions for commercial vehicles since they’re actually providing an essential service? I know there would be people taking advantage, but the net gain for working class people and businesses should outweigh that.

Don't officials realize congestion pricing will negatively impact local restaurants as local workers decide to bring their lunch to save money instead of eating out at one of the local restaurants.
Nobody is driving into NYC to get lunch. If u want to enter the city there are a myriad of affordable options to do so besides driving. It is also better to spread out businesses.
I actually don't mind seeing people break these laws. New York City has gotten really bad with nickel and diming people. That and some of the most strict and overreaching car regulations in the country
Exactly, I think Cash is wrong for calling toll evaders “criminals,” because they’re more like soldiers of justice to me 😎👍
@@vault1021 exactly, I'm in Southern Nevada as of September and it looks like I left at the right time 😀
It’s not about congestion. It’s about creating the highest tax increase in the city’s history and they are specifically only targeting lower income commuters and delivery drivers. Im not a “block the road “ protest supporter, but when the protest is related to the road, and it would deny the city the traffic revenue, it would be appropriate here.
Gotta admire the vehicular rebels' creativity :)
....AND with new cars being designed with "kill" switches, the city/state will be able to disable your car wherever it sits if you don't pay those fees (whether those fees are rightfully yours or not)!
don’t buy new cars
You would have to allow them access to your cars systems, and being that You own it, you could just take the time to learn how to delete the kill switch as once you own something it's your Right to be able to work on it, if I don't have to have a kill switch in my 95 Ford then you don't Have to Legally have one in your Tesla or whatever, just gotta take the time ta go on RUclips and learn how to do it
Cars dont have kill switches ffs stop the bs 😂
Cars are toxic
@@WANDERER0070 Yes they do. OnStar will shut down a car if law enforcement asks and have been doing it for years. Every car now is connected to the manufacturer's service.
Those tolls are just going to trickle down to the customer, product or service will just cost more to the consumer to make up for those tolls.
Some of those restaurants might pack up and leave to other boroughs that don’t have congestion pricing.
Plate tampering should be treated as DUI . you can get away with murder if your vehicle can’t be identified
I learn about the reality of New York through your videos...thank you
The USPS delivery fleet does not have state license plates as USPS is a federal entity. The vehicles do have an identification number. There are USPS vehicles with license plates, but they are not normally used to deliver the mail.
i've been to NY city twice a long time ago, i can't believe anybody lives there, living here in Florida is heaven compared to that hell hole.
It would be nice if they didn't rebuild the city to enable you to drive everywhere. You'd think the largest American city would be built for people
Thanks for not coming back.
@@MrSloikaStay in your hell hole New York City where you have the biggest homeless population and stores closing left and right from smash and grabs 😂😂😂😂
I will never understand why anyone would want to live in a major city, and why corporations are still stupid enough to have operations there.
The best thing is channels like NotJustBikes or whatever that try to force suburbs to become cities and talk about how awful freedom is. There is a legit group of people that want to be imprisoned in a city with no ability to leave
Corporations are apart of all this, they lobbied for an increased population plus backroom deals with politicians.
The big corporations don't pay the high taxes, they all negotiate loopholes to operate nearly tax free. Even if it means giving the money to a "woke" charity run by a shell company that has people connected to higher-ups in said corporation in their salaried directorship. Only the sucker goes to these people's schools, lives in their mega cities and works at a pointless job in one of their corporations. Get out while you can.
Generally for living because density makes it easier to do things like walk and take transit, meet people. It gives you the freedom to have a night out without having to worry about parking, who's going to stay sober, or paying $80 to lyft to and from. Not to mention density means more economic opportunity, more job options that sort of thing. For businesses it's the same deal, more foot traffic, more prospective customers, more prospective talent, zoning codes that allow for developments that fit their needs. There are all kinds of reasons you'd want to be in a big city.
do mutants just like repeating this kind of nonsense.
This will reduce the traffic for sure. But there's always a two side of the coin. Casual tourist that used to go to the "City" will now rethink where they will spend time and money. Rather than the Big Apple, areas surrounding the City will instead become of viable option instead.
Watching this guys videos is quite reliving. Knowing that your city doesn’t suck as hard as NYC.
CA could be the exception? Close contest.

As a Euopean I've tried to say the same things many times in "Not just bikes" videos...
That the idealized narrative he sells only really works if you're a upper-middle or upper-class citizen.
This is what's happening in many European cities:
What city do you live in which doesn't have great public transportation? Here in Prague it is a lot easier not to have a car...
These are overcrowded and often fail :/
Lincoln tunnel: 1937,
Holland tunnel: 1927,
North River train tunnel 1908,
George Washington bridge: 1931,
Path train tunnels: 1908.
And don't get me started on healthcare :/
@@opart Yes definitely, It's a case of "Carrot and stick". The best thing to do is to investing in infrastructure to support great public transportation and alternative means of transport, but not at the expense of those in society who are the least affluent. I don't know what all the right answers are, but always using the stick is not the right answear.
@@Oysteims Absolutely. I've been driving in NYC for last 15+ years, and honestly if it was about congestion, they would regulate Lift and Uber services instead - 8 out of 10 cars in Manhattan traffic are now T&L cars.
I assume you are in Norway, and if you are disappointed with what is going on there, you would be outraged with what is going on in NYC or US in general.
I just came back from Denmark, where once more I was reminded how efficient the transportation can be, and how messed up it is in US.
US is great for rich, young and healthy. Everybody else... not so much.
@@Oysteimsexcess traffic is caused by too many people in one area. A combination of poor border controls and failure ti build new cities to accommodate a growing population. There’s vast areas of undeveloped land nobody is using for farming.

Easy solution. Have rhe electronic scanners "read" the permanent
Public VIN number under the windshield.
Maybe instead of this BS they could've incentivized those who are actually able to avoid driving to take transit by putting money into making it cleaner and safer etc., but I suppose that's yet another thing that would be too reasonable for NYC to do... sad state of affairs

NYC has this on all entries.
Now if I want to visit, I fly in to McGarthur airport or take the ferry from the mainland.
The big brother issue is the main problem
I can see, barely, congestion pricing for passenger vehicles being an okish idea. But charging more for trucks that the city relies on is incredibly short sighted. Yes, the city may briefly increase revenue, but when businesses go under, and new businesses refuse to open, this is going to cause not just a loss in revenue, but a crisis
They don't care, they will just find another way to steal your money, like they did charging for grocery bags to combat global warming lol, when most of the store is filled with plastics.
There should be no charge for trucks making deliveries off hours. Middle of the day? Yup.
it's an ok idea only if the public transportation becomes efficient.
Understandable though, not too many people want to take subway nowadays.
great video sir

I refuse to pay any of NY extortion fees by never setting foot in that city. Yet somehow I love watching his vid’s.
I do not own a car and I live in Alabama the most car dependent state in America three cars for every home I cycle everywhere a car goes just fine plus I can go where a car can not
Thank you for staying away.
Cars are toxic and a horrible inefficient way of moving people.
@@JWimpy Sounds like a good policy to have - Tit For Tat.
NYC had an idea to raise the price of a parking ticket in the 1980's. That idea was ditched. They keep it at an "enticing amount" so motorists take a chance at parking. They don't want to reduce volume of vehicles because they will lose money.
NYC is so screwed up, toll cameras are just another example of out of control greed.

My company has a graduate program that allows us to travel to different sites around the country. I feel so bad for my program classmates that are stuck in NY and LA and making a lower salary than I am in the Midwest (my sites union has stricter pay rules). Bummer.
Don't officials realize congestion pricing will negatively impact local restaurants as local workers decide to bring their lunch to save money instead of eating out at one of the local restaurants.
"Officials" don't care! Ha! Let's just raise the property taxes on restaurants too. Problem solved.
To be fair whose driving their car to get lunch in ny lol
Nobody is driving into NYC to get lunch. If u want to enter the city there are a myriad of affordable options to do so besides driving. Plenty of cities throughout the world did the same and got great results from congestion pricing. One day southern Manhattan will hopefully be car free like city centers in Europe.
I think that ship sailed when restaurant prices went up in 2021. I stopped buying lunch out when we returned to the office. Prices at the remaining restaurants in the area were insane! In 2019, it was $11.99 for salad or $9.99/lb at buffet. By 2021 it was $14.99 for a smaller salad (with extra charge if you want arugula instead of lettuce). and $11.99/lb at buffet. Forget about the price of after work drinks.
