It's actually cause C418 doesn't want his music to be privately owned by Microsoft. He still owns all the current tracks in Minecraft, but Microsoft has to pay royalties to keep it in the game. So if Microsoft wants to have full control over the music, they have to start making their own.
The reason for C418 not making new tracks is so the new and old ones don't get locked away behind a copyright that restricts people from using it on their own projects. Thus he wants to keep it more in the public domain, but with some exceptions to the rule.

Honestly... yeah. I play a lot of modded MC in like 1.18 and I'm noticing this a lot. Not that I have any issue with the new OST but I do miss C418's stuff, I like the vibes of the distorted pianos and whatnot. Maybe I can find a mod or resource pack to bring those tracks back to the forefront.

More info I got from another video:
Notch and C418 made an agreement at the beginning of Minecraft that Notch could use his music, but he wouldn't own it. So now, Microsoft wants to own C418's music, but C418 said no, obviously because of the agreement. So in other words, we probably won't be seeing anymore new C418 tracks soon :(

Just to be clear for those who don't know. C418 still owns 100% of the rights to his music in the game. However if he were to continue to make music for the game going forward, he would have to give up the rights of the new music to Microsoft.

As a fan of Celeste, I know Lena Raine will make amazing new tracks given how amazing that soundtrack was. However, losing C418 is extremely saddening for the past, and I will miss him. But hey, if you want more music from him, he composed the steam version of Cookie Clicker's music, and it's a great vibe. Give it a shot!

I'm confident Lena can make amazing music, my only worry is if it will actually give the same feel as C418's created. I love Lena Raine’s tracks! I understand with people saying it’s not as “nostalgic”, but... we grew up with C418, of course it’ll invoke more nostalgia! I’m just so happy a new generation will get to experience their own nostalgic Minecraft tracks, honestly.
Why can't they enjoy the same tracks we did? is there something fundamentally different about the new generation? does C418's music have an expiration date?
We aren't talking about a situation in which it's either something or nothing. If that were the case, if C418's music had disappeared off the face of the earth and we were debating including music at all, then the latter half of your comment would make sense. But we're not; we're talking about a situation in which something exists, and a situation in which nothing needs changed for the sake of the new generation; they can surely appreciate the same music we did. I see no reason to change the music for the "new generation" at all. I see no reason that this is a good change in the slightest.
Except "nostalgia" isn't the only thing that made the old music in the first place.

To me; it seems more like "fixing" something that didn't need fixing, the "new generation" don't need their own nostalgic tracks when the C418's stuff already does that job for them.

I was genuinely anxious exploring the new nether with this extremely sinister music. The new 1.18 and Ancient City music are also nice. It doesn't take away from the game at all. Ive known why C418 stepped back from Minecraft for a while, and while it is sad, it also brings forth a scary idea.
If Microsoft continues making new tracks, it could eventually result in the OG C418 tracks being drowned out. And when that happens, I can only assume that the Minecraft we know and love will die forever
The worst part is, C418 had a complete third unreleased album he made specifically for Minecraft, but after the disagreement it was never added, and we likely won’t ever get to hear it… 😢
While C418 makes beautiful and nostalgic music, I do think Lena Raine is underappreciated. She makes awesome music, and she took a big step for the furry community.

Nigh everything they've done, from Netherite, to pandas, to account transferring, to censorship, to PvP, has been met with utter indifference or outright condemnation from the wider community, and a stark indifference from the developers about the community's feelings.
They've explicitly abandoned the old community by attempting to garner a new one; each time they add something for the sake of "players who play differently" a la their proposed excavation update, woodland mansions, and so much more, they've explicitly stated that "this is not for the people who enjoyed minecraft the way it was."
It is not nostalgia that drives me to say "not much about minecraft is salvageable:" it is love for the game that I fell in love with, and mourning for the game that the developers have abandoned. This, is a cheap imitation; a hovel built on a grand civilization.
@@obviouslykaleb7998 I disagree. You seem to think that any change to the game's general structure is a bad thing. Why? If Minecraft stayed the same with the same meta and same progression for years, it would get boring. And to the changes that most have been opposed to, they seem to have (mostly) seen the errors and attempted to fix them (jeb's combat snapshots fixing 1.9's pvp, phantoms dropping membrane, etc.)
And why, of all things to complain about, do you complain about pandas? A docile mob that adds a cosmetic feature for those who want it? What downside does that have?
Do you really think Minecraft could have remained as popular and enjoyable as it still is 13 years later if it had stayed with the same style of "few things to do, make your own ideas". I do not. While the heavily emphasized building aspect is enjoyable, not everyone likes building. Some people like adventuring, some like accumulating a bunch of little animals into a zoo, and some just like seeing the scenery. Minecraft is a game meant to be enjoyed no matter what type of gamer plays it. All of these additions that you see as "destroying the old community" are simply just more additives to fuel even more creativity and fun through those who still enjoy the game.
You don't have to enjoy modern Minecraft, but to say it's "barely salvageable" is wrong.

No; not all additions to the game are bad. The Nether is fantastic, the End is fantastic, Creative mode is a well-implemented natural evolution of the game's core mechanics, and Adventure mode, while significantly more niche in its' application, is yet another natural evolution of creative mode.
Yet, all of these original changes support what the game fundamentally is: A game, where you mine and craft. At its' deepest and most fundamental level, that is what minecraft is. Every good addition adds to this in very noticeable ways: the nether, which you get to most commonly by mining and crafting enough materials for a diamond pickaxe, is effectively a giant cave to mine through with very rewarding loot, yet higher difficulty: that higher difficulty demands that you first mine and craft through the overworld's content to such a level where its' challenges are trivial, and you can then challenge the nether. After mining and crafting through the nether, you gain the tools to craft the tools required to fight the Ender Dragon. It is a very natural progression: you mine and craft wood, to mine and craft stone, to mine and craft iron, to mine and craft diamond, etcetera, etcetera, until the name of the game is obvious.
It is the unnatural sideswiping of this obvious gameplay loop that i criticize: They de facto nerfed diamonds, an iconic part of the game's very identity, with the inclusion of Deepslate, included Netherite and so many enchantments with no consideration of the game's balance, then acted as if they had added a higher tier of gameplay, when all they did was nerf diamond. It is in adding Turtle scutes, which you must first find as incredibly unlikely random chance, which you must collect five of in order to properly challenge the underwater temples. Alternatively, you could drink a potion that has been in the game for near a decade before the turtle's inclusion that doesn't require you to farm for several hours. Turtles are useless, and even their hamfisted justification is redundant.
You seem to be under the delusion that "criticism of addition means someone prefers stagnancy." This cannot be further from the truth, but only illustrates your interpersonal illiteracy. I will elaborate quite a few games, where i've only ever praised the changes and additions:
Terraria is a game, that never once lost sight of what it is. It has remained fundamentally the same since it first gained sight of what it wanted to be. Despite nearly as much development as Minecraft, I cannot criticize it in the same way. In fact, I can hardly criticize it at all; It is what it is, and continually tries to be what it is, but better. It is that last sentence that is most important: it does not try to be something that it isn't.
Boneworks is a very story-intensive VR game with heavy emphasis on physics and combat. When, postgame, they added free levels that are entirely physics and combat based, I celebrated the additions. The zombie wave survival with heavy emphasis on physics was genuinely fantastic, and was a very natural evolution of what the game already was. I have no criticisms of anything the game had added post-game in the slightest, even the sandbox map, Tuscany, that wasn't to my liking as someone who prefers combat.
Sekiro: Shadows die twice is yet another example of a game retaining its' identity in postgame, post-launch content. It added so many things, that to elaborate on each of them past simply their names would be longer than the length of this already lengthy comment. In short, it added:
Replayability via Kuro's charm
More structured and difficult content via Gauntlets of strength
Cosmetics, unlocked by completing the gauntlets of strength
More content via entirely new bosses
Abilities
and probably more that im forgetting
Yet, i'm not criticizing any of these other games despite their additions. In fact, i love each of them. I can name more games that i love the additions of, if you so want me to. This clearly in itself shows that addition itself is not an issue, despite your haphazardly constructed strawman.
This is because, fundamentally, _They stuck with the core of the game._ Minecraft is not foremost a zoo simulator, but you could make it that way even if pandas didnt exist. Minecraft is not foremost an exploration game, despite very minor parts of the best parts of the game requiring it in some form (finding the stronghold). Minecraft is not fundamentally a swimming game, and though i'll gladly accept the action of swimming as a mechanic purely for convenience's sake, it does not require it to be a fantastic game. Minecraft is not fundamentally a fighting game, but people loved what combat there was back in the day.
No, minecraft is unique, in that it can be all of these things. It does not require dedicated additions to be any of these things; They all existed, in a small way, as natural extensions of what was good about the game. The developers did not need to add pillars to encourage building castles, and they didn't need to add pandas to encourage making a zoo. The less minecraft's devs focus on the mining and the crafting; the fundamental gameplay loop that the game began around, the less it is fundamentally Minecraft. Terraria's devs didn't focus on "creating a zoo" in any capacity, and yet its' fanbase persists. Terraria's devs didn't focus on arbitrarily nerfing the highest tier of gear by making the world slightly larger, and people still play it. _Why do you think that is?_
Frankly though, if i had to choose less "life" but more of a focused and complete gameplay experience, i'd choose the former every day. The persistence of something for its' own sake by abandoning what makes it fundamentally itself is the worse stagnation.
TL;DR you're wrong. In every aspect. You have no argument blatantly, and resorted only and easily refutable hyperbole and tired fallacies. I love this game, and i hate to see it suffer as a shell of what it could have - should have - been. If the developers have to, let it die, but let it die loved.
Mods and datapacks are good. it's just a shame that the devs seem bent on making them less accessible for the players.

I don't see where you get off on calling me "illiterate" and trying to personally deconstruct me as a person when we're both just people talking about a block game. Back to the game, though. I see where you're coming from with the whole "core identity" argument, but you have to remember that Minecraft is a special game in which 99% of the user experience is user generated. The original core gameplay elements on their own cannot sustain such a large and thriving community. The "core" theme you brought up seems to stem from older betas and alphas, which might I add had barely anything going for them in terms of the multiple community aspect. "Hey dude, I wanna explore!" "Okay, you wanna walk around the world?" "No, we do that too much. Isn't there any other way to explore?" "No, the core theme of the game is walking around without anything deviating from that."
See the problem here? The reason all of these seemingly useless things are added is to satiate that small niche who wants them. You may think some features like pandas, bees, etc. are useless. That's fine! Someone else out there might really like them. Does that not validate their existence enough? Identity and user experience are far from the same.
I should have dismissed your comment once you started trying to deconstruct me as a psychological being, but something compelled me to comment back on this. It makes me sad to see people this upset over a game that they should just accept that they've moved on from long ago. It also makes me sad to see the mentality some people have with online discussions. Rather than hearing me out or even trying to be constructive (for the most part, I did notice the actual gameplay parts and they did make sense), you just write another person off as illiterate and deluded. What kind of person does that over an originally somewhat-professional discussion?
