I love that it sounds like he's using old & dirty strings. As a guitarist there have been many times where I could feel and hear that grit of sliding my fingers over the old strings... a small touch that really hits home on that "lonesomeness".
I encourage everyone to indeed find out more about m ward. I myself am so glad norah jones had him touring with her otherwise I might not have ever discovered him
amazing is an understatement...............................yet, i'm simply speechless with enchantment so i guess i would have not of said it much better. take care all
they appropriately drag the crap out of this. Production is lush and right on. The background textures really carry the dynamics of this tune. Beautifully done. I too thought Neil's version was it, and I still do, but this is a close 2nd.
The first time I heard this, I cringed, but I love Lucinda and downloaded it from iTunes. It really took me a couple of times listening to it to "get" it. Once you get your head out of your ass, forget about how it's "supposed to be sung", and actually listen to it, you will realize it's a brilliant interpretation of a classic. And at the end, he just sort of stands back and lets Lucinda carry it out. I love this version!! And now I want to know more about M Ward.
In the middle of this analysis the writer starts projecting on the reader by saying "you". I actually loved this from very first listen. I guess my head wasn't in my arse unable to hear? Jacinda can raise sensual out of sadness, quite the goddess!
@chrislc11 Don Gibson had a hit with 'Oh, Lonesome Me' in 1958. He penned Patsy Cline's hit, 'Sweet Dreams' and the country standards, "I Can't Stop Loving You' and 'Sensuous Woman' .... a great and legendary country music songwriter. Ward does a great job of it, though, for me, Neil Young's version is the 'lonesomest' version of them all !
@MrVATO37 funny thing is bro, i would normally say the same thing, but this song got me high without the aid of anything else. due to that, i've hit replay about 500 times. lol!!!

I cried and smiled all at the same time. I don't understand. What a beautiful song.
Such a beautiful and elegant cover of Don Gibson's classic!! Neil Young's and this cover are my favourites so far!!

the Opening drifts through your mind, like Smoke drifting away from a chimney.

Adoro M. Ward

I need a bottle of Jack and some pot, then listen to this song again. Good fucking shit here man. Awesome.
Until a few moments ago, I was convinced that Neil Young's version was best..but this is just breathtakingly achingly beautiful
reminds me of a male mazzy star :)
Nice redo. I wonder though if he is ready to do a duet with the fabulous Lady Gaga?

Wow, this is really good music! Thanks to Paul and Ian from The Vampire Diaries for mentioning how good this guy's music is;)
good night
I love m. ward. I particularly like the Transfiguration of Vincent. But I prefer Neil Young's version of this particular song.
Then she thinks the same!
Result : 2 lonesome souls!
M Ward's brilliance in re-interpreting is nonpareil. Talk about a niche.
u should hear blue bayou duet with norah jones...oh that shit;ll take u away into outer space
Galanta
I thought it was Dusty springfield singing. Then i recalled she was a bit dead.
@Myro45 The lyrics and the basic melody are the same. What are you talking about?
wow. i had no idea he covered this song. amazing. think i like the neil young version better though
At 1:48, is that singing?
Yes
love this !..but Neil Young owns this song
M.ward is my 2nd favorite musician without a doubt. I hate this damn song
I'm a huge Neil Young fan. If you're going to cover a great song reinvent it. Mission accomplished.
This on 33rpm lmao
lol
Love "The first time I ran away" - really do not like this.
Thank you for your opinion
* *Yawn* *
ah, but sir, it seems as if you are the one who has shared his ignorance.
THE worst thing I have ever heard. Loved his version of Rave On. This is PAINFUL to listen to !!!
