  • Today we're going to show you how to build a reliable DIY Camera Car Mount that can hold up to 200 pounds!
    This is a DIY build of the RigWheel Camera Car Mount that costs $350+. This DIY setup will end up saving you around ~$200 and potentially more if you shop around for different parts/brands or are able to reduce parts - just make sure you're not adversely affecting the safety of your camera if you choose to save money by reducing parts. This car mount is weighted to hold up to 200 pounds, so it can hold heavier cinema camera rigs or your lightest DSLR.

    Yo! I'm really really digging your DIY series. Actually started incorporating your lighting and now I've got SO many ideas to do car scenes with, especially when I get the courage to start shooting my own music videos. I appreciate you 🙏

    Very impressive! This is no ordinary DIY camera mount. I've done some primitive setups in the past (before gopros) to record autocross races but this is a million times better. Well done!

    Hello Wesley, good to see you back at it... and I love the quick screaming GEAR intro!! That's a whole lotta cheese plates. Look at you looking at handy with this setup. It does look a little crazy but it's very effective. Yeah, you definitely want a backup when you are playing with all that money. The test footage came out very stable so good job. Excellent job and great editing! So what's coming up next on your channel?

    3 cheese plates and some Nuts eh? lol Nice rig you made here, I bet one you'd buy is super expensive too. You guys really made sure that thing was going NOWHERE! and it saves the expensive camera in case something does malfunction, god forbid. i like the mount on the side of the car for unique shots. Great video, I bought this suction cup rig, very similar to what you have going on there and it's awful, would so much rather have magnets. If the replacement rig won't work I think I'll definitely want to do this. Again, great video, thanks.

    • @ThinkingArtEntertainment

      Thanks! Yeah, we had the same issue before with suction cup mounts - they’d always lose their grip over time and would come loose. I highly recommend the magnets!

    Great mount on the "relatively" cheap! I suppose this could be rigged to any vehicle, or a boat with a waterproof cam of course. Small Airplane for some amazing shots although a drone works great for that nowdays lol. And not as expensive. Just thinking the possibilities are endless for a camera mount like this.

  • @FWIKNOW

    Aie caramba. I'm all for DIY but not when it looks DIY, the initial faded shot looked pretty thrown together and might not hold, but seeing it is extra security makes me feel more confident with this rigging. If you had black cording it would've looked dope.
    The extra gimbal gear makes it look extra sloppy if you ask me, and the side mounting na uh. Just prefer something more modular and easily deployable if you ask me.

  • @thecanadianhoser
    @thecanadianhoser 4 года назад +1

    That's such a smart build, it will help me out huge with the rig I'm attempting to build. Just have a few questions for you.
    How fast were you driving with it?
    Did you have to stabilize the shots that didn't use the ronin?

    • @ThinkingArtEntertainment
      @ThinkingArtEntertainment  4 года назад

      Thanks so much! I think we got up to 60 on the one road, regularly going 45-55. None of the shots without the Ronin had warp stabilizer added, but a few of the Ronin shots, especially when we were going faster, did have WS added due to the wind pushing the cam.

    • @thecanadianhoser
      @thecanadianhoser 4 года назад

      @@ThinkingArtEntertainment Wow that's way faster than I expected. Thanks for answering that for me. Keep up the great videos

    feels like the magnet will ruin/scratch the paint after a couple of hours..?

    • @ThinkingArtEntertainment
      @ThinkingArtEntertainment  3 года назад

      Very valid concern! I was definitely concerned, which is why my car was never used for this, but we've used this on several shoots in addition to this video and have had 0 scratches.

    • @critical
      @critical 3 года назад

      Thinking Art Entertainment ah so the magnets have some soft/rubber surface maybe? I always go with suction cups instead but this seems pretty cool and take up less room; altho it wouldnt work on a aluminum hood

    • @jximages
      @jximages 3 года назад +1

      A nice strong magnet will be fine through a thin cloth, especially with the back up rigging. I may try that if I build this rig. But tbh if the surfaces are nice and clean, prob not much reason to be concerned.

    • @ThinkingArtEntertainment

      Not very difficult. It'll take a little force to pull them off, but the hooks help out a lot.

  • @micahmorrell

    Do you find that, at a certain speed, you started to experience and shake or micro jitters?

    • @ThinkingArtEntertainment
      @ThinkingArtEntertainment  3 года назад +1

      Yeah with the Ronin on it, for sure. The Ronin doesn't do too well with wind, so when we were going 40 or so, there was definitely a bit of microjitters in the image. Nothing completely unusable though. Most of the shots could be saved by applying Warp Stabilizer in post.

    Hello, i was wondering if the video with Ronin S, was stabilized on post production as well ? My problem is that i can not stabilize the camera with Ronin S on my car, all the videos needs post stabilization. If you can give me an advice it will be good. Thanks for you job !

    • @ThinkingArtEntertainment
      @ThinkingArtEntertainment  2 года назад +1

      Hey there! I honestly don’t remember, but I’m guessing a very slight warp stabilizer in post to smooth out any kind of vibrations that transferred from the vehicle into the camera.
