Just watched this now. beautiful model, but there are a few points to be made for others watching this - from the first few yards on take off, it's obvious the pilot is not on par with the machine: Power is not increased gradually, there is ZERO ruder correction. It looks like taking off with a 50" plane. - Certainly quite a bit nose heavy; Many times it looks like the plane wants to dive all by itself, and that certainly does not help the landing. -Way too much throw on ailerons, at least for a first flight. - No use of rudder on landing, which is why there is such side load on the landing gear. On landing, at slow speed, the pilot MUST "forget" his ailerons, it's the best way to tipstall if you use them at that time. All directional corrections should be done exclusively with the ruder. I don't know how this is planned in the kit, but the wires are fully functionnal, there should not be any spring, or spring effect, there. I sure hope all of this has been fixed, and that this beautiful airplane is tearing up Texas skies now without further incidents.
Boy, you hit his flight right on the money!!! Pretty typical of most model flyers..but nice project...those steep turns are going to ball that baby up soon!! Remember, speed is lift, it's just not magic holding that hunk of weight in the air
For those who say this plane is ugly its actually a good looking plane. He did the brown to match his truck and trailer and the plane is fun to watch fly.
Brown... Hmmm... each to there own I guess. Thats what makes this hobby so great. If you check the rudder as it was about to depart the runway... no rudder correction was applied at all. The R3 is a real rudder lover. Thanks for posting. Great strip you guys have there
Yes I agree and again I'm not picking on anyone but it seems like a lot of rc pilots are trying to fly planes that are beyond their scope or ability to me that looks like a pretty expensive airplane why attempt to fly something you don't have much chance of landing ?
There wasn't enough rudder authority in the radio....that is why no correction...The rudder had very little throw programed in... The supports were a struggle to put in, but came off very easy...
Very nice plane sir. Love the sound of that engine. Was sad to see that landing tho. but as your buddy's, it could have been worse. Hopefully you got that beautiful bird all fixed up for next run.
Oh okay, not my first choice of color, nevertheless it is indeed the dream plane to have without a doubt. hopefully he got it up again and performing. Nothing like a radial!
Question....... you put it together, than on video you said it was a FU**ed up design...... If it WAS that why didn't you change it, BEFORE you flew it??
i have a r3 with a raidel 215cc to make it fly straight had to make the trim finer adjustment befor one click eather way was to much so it was always flying sideways but once it basicly one click trim changed to about a quarter of that fixed it sraight as a arrow now looked like u had jr i use futaba dont know if you can do that with jr raidels are the coolest
Beautiful plane!....... I have had allot of experience with stub wing. planes..... They will no tolerate the slightest bit of cg problems.... Especially tail heavy..... They start to purpose and stall from wing tip to wing tip.
Not trying to be rude but on landings use your rudder. If you did that with a real plane the landing gear would fail as well lol. It's not the design, the poor thing was sideways haha.
That was simply too much airplane for Melvin. GB R2 is a handful. The R3 is way way worse. You got off easy. This video is from 2012. There is now a simulator for this plane.
Don't get me wrong I'm not hating or picking on anyone but I'm seeing all these rc plane videos and the majority of these rc pilots can't land worth a damn what's up with that?

Agreed with all points.
That is gorgeous. That’s one of my all-time favorite planes. I have a small .20 size made of wood.

anyone who thinks this is an ugly plane must be blind.
you have got a very beautiful airfield on earth. Good luck.

The prop snapping was gold.
Beautiful plane so so pilot
Beautiful model. Great work!
wow she sounds great , stunning looking model too
Ouch that hurt... But honestly it looked like a handful in the air and the landing was rough! Tail heavy possibly?
Man that's a pretty plane with a great engine
That´s a beautiful bird !
Looks great Mel. Sorry about that landing. Wire must of come loose. Love that moki!!!

Very nice

yes but not flat, it is the difficulty of the GEEBEE which flies sometimes of right side, sometimes of the other side
Question....... you put it together, than on video you said it was a FU**ed up design...... If it WAS that why didn't you change it, BEFORE you flew it??
Beautiful plane!! Is there anywhere that I can order this model or one of this size???? Seems like no one sells this model anymore?
Great plane, couple hundred dollar spill there, but my only question is why brown?

Looks like ol boy needs some more sim time...
why is the plane so pitchy? Is it a CG issue?
COULD OF BEEN WORSE ALRIGHT,coulda been mine
Beautiful plane!....... I have had allot of experience with stub wing. planes..... They will no tolerate the slightest bit of cg problems.... Especially tail heavy..... They start to purpose and stall from wing tip to wing tip.
you can blame the design all you want but all types of landing gear don't like to be landed sideways
8:18 "That's a pretty fucked-up design there." LOL
How many times have we all said this!
Range checks were never much of a thing back in the day.
DEAD left thumb!
Not trying to be rude but on landings use your rudder. If you did that with a real plane the landing gear would fail as well lol. It's not the design, the poor thing was sideways haha.
7 minutes 17 of happiness only
Super Geebee, super motor but not good landing.
My little Geebee is ready for the first flight but I am afraid to land on only one wheel
The threading which holds the stays is too small and is torn off
Put some expo on the pitch control.
That was simply too much airplane for Melvin. GB R2 is a handful. The R3 is way way worse. You got off easy. This video is from 2012. There is now a simulator for this plane.
CUT the engine.... save the prop!
and take a BETTER landing gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Try taking off ALONG the runway instead of across it. FFS. RC 101.
há há ổng hạ cánh mấy phát bị sịt kaka
Don't get me wrong I'm not hating or picking on anyone but I'm seeing all these rc plane videos and the majority of these rc pilots can't land worth a damn what's up with that?
C’est pas un avions facile , mais avec de tel erreur de montage , je suis pas etonné.
Sorry high performance aircraft low performance pilot
way too much plane for the pilot. Am surprised it made it back in almost one piece
ouch three hundred dollar landing
Tail heavy. Use rudder. Poor gear design.
Beautiful on the ground but ugly on air.
That was just bs! Pilot did a decent landing gear was just poorly made.
