I can't count the amount of times I just did some stupid shit with randoms or friends and nearly pissed myself laughing in those games. On the other hand i never expeirenced anything like this in Infinite.
@@mhm35 Watch the video again. Max did not claim that these games never happen, just that the current algorithm tries is damnedest to minimize all match "types" except for the neck and neck ones, eliminating variety from the game, and artificially extending people's search times.
Honestly, my biggest gripe is just having games with outcomes that feel so predetermined. Lately been encountering a lot of matches of just stomp or be stomped when I hop online in social playlists like Super Fiesta and Husky Raid
It definitely feels like they tweaked the SBMM algorithm for these game types. They're way too competitive and sweaty, and not very fun most of the time.
My experience as well. Which is strange to even bring into discussion, because it doesn't match what Mint Blitz for example is saying in the video. His gripe is with perfectly matched / balanced games, where you have to outperform to win, over and over. My experience is that I get matches that are impossible to win even when I give 110%. And after a couple of such games, the algorithm doesn't adjust anything, I keep getting even harder matches! And then out of the blue I get a match where I just stomp the enemy team. Either the hidden rank adjustment doesn't work properly, or there is something else afoot here.
@@_thepoet68 I literally watched this happen. I had lost two or three games back to back and then the game decided I should win one. We played a match of Husky Raid where my team was really balanced. All of us had double digit kills and were moving together well. The other team had one guy who was 25+ kills and the rest in the single digits. I knew it was just a matter of time before we won.
Halo 3 ranked MM was super transparent. It would show you what level range it was searching for in real time, based on how long it was searching it would start with a variance of 1, and climb every couple of seconds until the variance was 10.
Love that you’re still bringing attention and talking about this! Keep it up Mint, hopefully 343 starts to understand where the community is coming from and are able to make change based on that
I remember playing a match of halo 3 ranked and I was paired up with a person way above my skill level. While I lost it was a neat experience seeing the strategies high level players used in a time before RUclips strat videos really existed. I was able to message the person and they jumped into customs with me, and were happy to show me some tricks. In infinite I don’t see much variation in play styles with the people I’m paired with.
You hit the Nail on the head. Hopefully they'll listen. They've been making a lot of good moves lately, hopefully a SBMM fix will be added to their Arsenal.
My favorite games are the ones where I have to outperform the systems expectations to win, the evenly matched games- Those are the games where I learn and improve the most (which is my favorite thing about competitive games in general) That being said, After maybe 3 of those games in a row I get tired and by the 5th game I will be consistently underperforming as a result. I don't love getting stomped, I prefer to always feel like I have a chance to win but I'd rather get stomped every once in a while if it means I get the occasional game where I can relax and chill- Incidentally under Halo Infinites current matchmaking I am ranked Plat 3 and will play *Ranked* to relax as, for me, every single game I play in ranked is easy and relaxing and chill. This is clearly backwards, I shouldn't be playing Social to sweat and Ranked to chill but I absolutely am
Good video Mint and it’s great to see Max’s thoughts. I’ve personally stopped playing Halo Infinite until changes to the SBMM happen. I know you have to play the RUclips game but the title is very misleading. I expect the first 5s of this video were disappointing to a lot of people.
Husky Raid shouldn’t feel like the most hyper-competitive mode in Halo history. I’ve nearly given up on the playlist and it has been my favourite chill location since Halo 4!
Please keep bringing awareness to this! All I play is social however can’t find a game most of the time. When I do, my team is horrible and the other team destroys us. Then once the game is over the average MMR is 1800. You could also make a video on how bad the bug ticket system is on halo waypoint. I’ve had 20+ tickets open for 1.5 years now. Including the issues where I can’t find any matches in 1 hour of searching. The only response I get is “we have given your feedback to the development team for consideration”
Ranked matchmaking is great right now, love how the games are always winnable and close. if I want loose sbmm I’ll go play social playlists We really just need social features to make the game more enjoyable and community driven
@@robertadams1558 not really. Ranked matches you by CSR then divides the teams by your MMR with a much stricter system. Social has a loose system that prioritizes wait times so you have high level and low level players together. You won’t ever see Mint Blitz pulling off killionares in ranked.
I'd love to see this implemented in Halo Infinite. My wife and I can hardly play together because we have such different skill levels that matches can be unenjoyable when we play together. I'd enjoy if social playlists were just that: social
2:30 "you have to play better than your average just to win the game and that's exhausting". Here lies the crux of the debate. Even though it's a social mode and winning shouldn't matter, you still want the dopamine of rush of winning the game, so you're playing to win and are stressing over the outcome. It's your attitude that makes the game sweaty first and foremost, SBMM is a secondary factor.
The fact that we can watch MintBlitz brutally dunk on the enemy team and still see that his team is losing in the scoreboard really shows the issue here. If you are better than average, than you should win most of your games. the SBMM tries to make it 50% no matter how good you are.
There was one single time I ever matched against Mint Blitz. It was a BTB Heavies match, doing CTF on Breaker. Bro went *seventy-three/13* and our team *still* won the match.
@@mhm35 sorta true, sorta not. getting a lot of kills is still a huge detriment to the other team. increases spawn times and time to get back to the objective. If a team cant capitalize on someone fragging out then even though the player who is fragging could do a better job of being a team player, that team is still atrociously balanced relative to their opponents
Guys even if they aren't playing slayer, if someone is overkilling the enemy team, then they should be winning the objective. And even if Mint Blitz IS playing slayer he could still lose, look at 1:24 in the video.
@@xJohnnyBloodx this is facts. It's a numbers game, after all. If there's one player on the team that's outperforming everyone by such wide margins as Mint Blitz does, the algorithm pairs him (usually) with people that can barely get 5 kills (and I fall in *that* camp if I'm being honest), or 10 at the most; whereas to balance that he's placed against a team that the top 4 performers of that team can get 30, 25, 20, 20; then its up to the other 8 players to get just 5 kills. Edit: math
The most fun I've honestly had in Halo Infinite was infection, because SBMM was disabled and getting first place was fair game. There's nothing worse than losing a game not because the enemy team is better than you, but because your teammates are so mentally crippled that they weigh you down. If 343 isn't going to adjust SBMM, then they should at least remove it from the more casual gamemodes where having SBMM makes little sense, like husky raid, fiesta, and social slayer.
1 cheating is easier than ever today 2 no one wants to get stomped by "that guy" in unranked when people are just having fun being social, as you put it.
He is absolutely correct on everything he stated. Games are meant to be FUN. Not another job after we get home from our main job Even the big time sweats dont wanna be doing that 24/7. Nobody does. Thank goodness he spoke out because it really needs to be said by people with connections in the industry and talked about
Has Max ever discussed his actual algorithm? I love the concept of some good, some bad - but was wondering how you actually do that? If you have a really good player - where do you find the opponents that give them their turn at being stomped? Or even harder. What if you have 2 or 3 really good players in a squad? When do they get their turn? And what do you do if four high level players form a whole team? How did he make it work for them? They need to invite him to GDC to do a presentation of how he pulled this off...
One of the key differences I noted was the "playlist specific ranking" this is probably one of the biggest changes! If I go into husky raid and get super lucky and destroyed the enemy team, then switched to a playlist I am not so good at, I shouldn't be ranked on my performance in the husky raid playlist....
Nothing going to change, game uses EOMM, not SBMM. In EOMM, reaching ranked top level is artificially extended. When players reach the highest level, many players lose interest in game and move on to next game. Modern gaming extends ranking up to keeps players engaged with game. Hence, Engagement Optimized Match Making (EOMM)!
Seeing Reach and 5 clips mixed in is making me miss the many weapons - and some vehicles - that did not survive the transition from 5 to Infinite. Where's our grenade launcher, railgun, fuel rod cannoooooooon?? No gauss weapons at all either - really hope they don't scrap the Cougar for that reason.
I’ve always found playing against good players made me better. So it wasn’t a big deal to play against better players…but anymore it is every single round I get to play crazy hard opponents.
@@mhm35 Because these people aren't here to actually compete, they just want to stomp out shitty players. There is some truth in that you do not want a system that's constantly putting you in even matches (that stress isn't good for anybody for any reason, even improving at the game), but there's ways of letting players be the hero sometimes without making the match completely lop-sided.
Probably the problem here is us here hanging solo-ish gets routinely put against squads of crazy hard godtiers while we get stuck with cannon fodder who can’t even do That job right. Just because we had several games of stomping said cannon fodder for months with a vehicle or power weapons and now the game thinks we’re Mint Blitz. We’re forced to sweat a lot more and play Thrawn-level 5D chess trying to outmaneuver the other guys to strike even with kill/death ratios
@@xSilentZeroXx literally no one complaining is doing it because they think they're getting too many even games and not enough lopsided ones, its the exact fucking opposite. how is it even possible for you to misconstrue this that hard? i fucking WISH the game would give me neck and neck matches as often as you claim i'd think is too much.
Mint explained this perfectly, i'm a longtime halo fan but lately I've just been exhausted of infinite. I hopped on Titanfall 2 for the first time in a while, and realized the reason I felt so tired was because of the strict sbmm forcing me to sweat every single time i play the game. Love infinite, but this needs to change.
Handicaps as a solution to matchmaking in low-population social playlists is a very interesting idea. "You're better than these guys, but they get twice the nades and power weapon ammo, and your helmet's on fire making you a priority target. Good luck!" I don't know how it would play in practice, but I think anyone who chooses the Legendary campaign would at least raise an eyebrow.
Mint an Ex halo employee reminiscing about a system from 20 years ago isn't an update. I agree it's very interesting stuff being talked about and it's fun to daydream what the game would be like if these systems actually existed still, but calling this set of tweets "HUGE" news with Halo Infinite in the thumbnail is super disingenuous. You gotta realize that too surely.
I wholeheartedly agree with everything Max Hoberman said. More recent attempts at skill-based matchmaking never worked for me, and it wasn't until recently that I figured out why. This video hits the nail on the head. Seeing progression as you improve is a good thing, the average quality of player you face should increase as you win games, but in order to create a fun experience there needs to be some leeway within that. Variety is important, if every game becomes a sweat fest then it quickly becomes frustrating and loses and sense of fun. Even in ranked playlists, I'm happy to have the occasional game where I get dumped on by much better players than myself, and equally being involved in games that are less intense. Whether we admit it or not, we all like to bully noobs from time to time.
Hey Mint, could you mention in the next vid that MCC is on sale for only $10? The more people that know the better, plus it’s just insane that you can get six games for half the price of an uncustomizable kit that you’ll unequip after a week
Im so glad you are still fighting for this, the matchmaking is insane and I honestly believe if my partner didnt also play my account (we are very different level of skill) I would hate almost every game.
Good stuff by Hoberman. I wish I could try to play a certain way to get my challenges done instead of feeling like I have to play meta in all moments to pull my weight.
Thats crazy that back in Halo 3 Bungie already figured out stuff that 343 is struggling with now. 343 just need to do what works and stop trying to recreate the wheel like they have been since halo 4🤦
With devs and publishers being so silent on this topic, across franchises of its ilk, I can't help but think something more insidious is at work. This is obviously a prominent talking point among the active player base. The silence is telling.
I love interacting with the sandbox and map routes in in infinite. Seeing how I can mix things up to do better. It’s one of my favorite aspects of infinite. That being said, the sbmm mixed with the mindset of certain players/ play styles have always hindered my willingness to actually hop on and play consistently. When I do, I wind up miserable trying to outperform not just the enemy team, but my team and myself. Hoping all this coverage leads to a change in pvp games as a whole. If I’m not getting paid, why are games so stressful?😂 I’ve found myself leaning more and more on pve experiences like warhammer 40k darktide for enjoyment from video games.
The fact that Infinite is wayyy less social now doesn't help it much at all. I played the MCC with my 5 year old and he played alright, but when we went to Infinite, he was banned temporarily from a SOCIAL PLAYLIST for underperforming.
I’m a High Diamond/onyx enjoyer that’s been playing halo since 2001-2002. I can confirm although some ranked games in H3 were really sweaty, I also had way more fun because the other modes were more social and enjoyable when I didn’t feel like having a hard time. I played squad battle yesterday, with a search time of :40s or so, ended up waiting 10-15 mins to be told the same: no matches were available in one of the most active playlists. It’s hard to enjoy when I have to play at a 30-40 kills games every game without fail while trying to solo objectives, it makes it very unenjoyable and generally a slog when I load a match and see all brand new players as allies and know I’m going to suffer the whole match.
This is a topic that I’m not sure if it’s been discussed before, but in BTB whenever teammates leave, there are no AI Spartans that fill those empty spots, I can’t tell you how many games that 3-4 teammates would quit, only for those spots to be empty until minutes later where a random queued player gets thrown in. Often times in a CTF gamemode that’s the difference between a flag cap or not, purely because of the number of teammates available to push or defend. On a second note, id love a cross platform switch just like in MCC so i can only ever match against controller vs MnK as well as pc vs console, and to be able to turn off the ability of joining a match that’s presently in progress
I don’t think I’ll play halo infinite regularly till SBMM is fixed and probably other shooters as well that this applies to. I miss being able to enjoy my shooters win or lose every single match played shouldn’t feel l’m playing esports that’s what ranked should be for. Thanks for your videos as always mint (:
I think Max is 100% right. I'm not sure that his philosophy would work in very team-based games like LoL or DOTA, but for something like Halo and CoD, it's perfect.
When I was younger playing H2/H3 online, I didn't even know that SBMM existed. And I think that's when SBMM is at it's best, when players are having fun with the game and don't even know that SBMM is a thing.
The theme for Halo Infinite was changing things for the sake of changing things. Even things that didnt need to be changed like forced Red Vs Blue team colors for Team game types. -Classic Game types tweaked -Classic weapons removed -sbmm being way too strict -"more customization" but less customization like armor cores and Coatings. Its like they never heard the Phrase if it aint broke dont fix it.
I remember being a veteran of Halo 2, Halo 3 gave me a special nameplate with the Halo 2 logo That way everytime I was on matchmaking people knew I was an OG
I'm so glad that Max Hoberman spoke out for us, but the question is, will 343 listen? That seems to be the main problem, more than SBMM itself, is that game developers (not just 343) won't listen to their players. They refuse to make the changes that need to be made because they've convinced themselves that the systems they have in place are perfect the way they are, and make the game the most "fair". Look at Infinity Ward. Players have been asking them for over 4 years now to bring back red dots on the mini-map for their games, and they point-blank refuse to do it. Why? Don't know. Maybe, in their twisted way of thinking, they believe it would be unfair to new players to appear on the mini-map every time they fire their weapon. And of course, their games also have incredibly sweaty SBMM on top of everything else. Honestly, the people making these horrible decisions regarding SBMM should be straight-up FIRED. If they're not listening to their customers, refusing to act on consumer feedback, or otherwise doing the bare minimum in response to said feedback where it barely makes a difference... then sorry, they need to go. Their pursuit of ensuring absolute fairness in online matchmaking has only created a system in which everyone loses, and as a consequence, playing multiplayer is no longer fun. It is nothing but frustration.
I've never seen such a feverish desire to turn what used to be such a casual franchise with a competitive twist into a hyper competitive game. This game at its core was always meant to be a casual game and outside entities had to alter the game to their liking for competitive fairness. Turning this game into such a sweatfest is exactly why I never am able to use the full 60 minutes of my Double XP tickets because after three or four games I get tired from trying to to better than I did last match every single time I play this game on top of getting teammates that just learned what an Xbox was against people that play like their in the HCS Finals. Make this game as accessible as it was starting back in 2001 and stop trying to push people to constantly have to perform better. Playing PvP games these days feels like an absolute chore that I have to dedicate time I don't have to in order to just be average. I'm not that prepubescent tween anymore whose only responsibility in life is go to school and make it home. I just want to relax and constantly pitting me against people that make this game their life is insanely frustrating.
It would make the game 100x better if they gave the controls to the player to set the matchmaking settings. If you want it to be more sweaty or more casual
I'm absolutely agree. What do you think about classic server browser like from Quake, Unreal, or every multiplayer game before Matchmaking had been developed?
No triple A dev studio will allow us seperate ranked and social playlists. Its part of their live service model, stuff us all in as few playlists as possible
i love playing competitive halo when i’m in the mood and have the energy to spare, but its frustrating when games feel competitive 24/7 to the point i can’t even play with my friends as often because they get frustrated n get off
I really hope 343 sees this. This is what we are talking about. They need to change the matchmaking. Social playlists are basically ranked anyway because of matchmaking works.
Max made the right comments (and the right system). I love Infinite's matchmaking, even sweating at times. Especially when I match with or against you as a test of my own skill but I tone down the sweat to casual when I match a team not exactly hyper lethal. Hell, if I have a match where unfortunately all but one is left for some reason, I'll meme with them. As a Halo 3 vet, it only feels right and that kind of thinking needs to come back, make fun not sweat (all the time)
this guy speaks facts. its nice to have someone who knows what they are talking about share the correct opinion of the playerbase instead of whats been the case with the playerbase feeling gaslit by devs who know what they are talking about technically but have a misguided view of what their goal should be. I mostly quit halo infinite because its not fun and too sweaty. I would end up leaving most matches because after having fun in a stressful and sweaty match the last thing I want is yet another, but at that point the matchmaker picks up on the fact that you did well against good players so the next match will be even harder. I genuinely only pick it up very rarely now even though the game is actually in a good state now content and performance wise. I just hope that my probably 70% leaverate contributed to them receiving data that indicated their matchmaking system was failing horribly
I really wish 343 would experiment with the idea of loosening up SBMM in social playlists (both MCC and Infinite) and aligning it to Max's original vision from OG H2/H3. Even just for a few weeks to gather data. If player retention improves then it will be proof that current implementation of SBMM isn't what players want. Plus, it could even be a good opportunity for 343 to set a trend themselves and show to other game devs that you don't need to enforce these "perfect scenarios" in matchmaking.
I agree with you and him. A huge problem that needs fixed. There needs to be a clear divide between social and ranked. I still won't even play ranked because I can't get fair matches.
Social shouldn't have a matching system; just match available players not based on anything but looking to play and add map/gametype voting. It's social so let us socialize with the lobby.
It is one of main factors of why I stopped playing Halo Infinite. I was tired of having to play at my best otherwise I'd get stomped. It chipped away at my enthusiasm.
I'm glad this is starting to get visibility, but lately I've been having a very rough time playing bc i switched to play mostly ranked due to exaggerated sweat in casuals but since last week I'm getting matches with over 6k ping sometimes, I don't know why this happens but I haven't been able to have an enjoyable experience in halo in a while :/
They way the system is now really does feel like the system gets pissed at you for winning then gives you a bunch of f u matches to put you back in your place.
People seem to be under a misconception that the matchmaking in modern games is a mistake, it’s not. These systems are designed to give you unfair matches to keep you addicted so you play the game longer, so you might spend some cash. That’s why since when it 1st started in 2019 with modern warfare nothing has changed because in the eyes of the executives, it’s working and bringing them more money. Which is why it’s never going to change. TDLR: modern sbmm is designed to keep the player chasing a carrot on a stick to increase player retention and profit. It’s NEVER getting changed because it does what it’s supposed to.
ABSOLUTELY!! Some games you wreck some games you get wrecked, in social playlist the SBMM should be as loose as possible. For ranked, yes of course ramp up the SBMM. All we want to do if game with our friends and not have to play our absolute best every time to win a game. 343 PLEASE I’m pleading with you, relax the SBMM on social playlists.
One of the worst things to happen to Halo was competitive tournaments. Between Halo 3 and Halo 4, designing for fun play disappeared in favor of balanced competitive play for tournaments. I feel that skill-based matchmaking should be left to Ranked playlists. If you want the sweat, you can go there. If you want it in Social playlists, then do it by team. Spread the love to both sides. I really enjoy Halo: Infinite UNTIL I win a match or do particularly good because I know that the next three games are going to suck as I am going to get totally destroyed with no hope of help from teammates, even though all I play is social playlists, and would rate myself as a mid-level player on my good days.
I miss when the rankings were calculated per Playlist. My performance in Team Slayer/ Objective is going to be very different from the performance in FFA (this goes for FFA versus FFA shotty snippers)
Some people say that system simply wouldn't work today but no major game has tried it since maybe 2012. No-one actually knows for certain so what is the harm in trying given the only examples of this kind of matchmaking were very positively received. Current SBMM has caused entire communities to up and leave so maybe the old system is worth a shot. It would just be great for at least one modern game to give it a go. Final note (it feels worse to lose a game due to luck than to an overarching system you can't control)
Man I agree with his version of it It made the game fun. Sbmm now is I constantly get stomped for 8 or 9 games in a row. I don't have time to play all the time to be good enough to match hard core players so it makes me want to play less
How is this news or an update? It’s cool Max talked about it as his input is interesting. However, it has zero bearing on Infinite and to frame it as such is really tacky.
The biggest issue is how you’re matched with an EXPECTATION given your match history… “ohh you’ve won a couple - you’re getting too far away from our goal of maintaining 50:50 W/L rate - we’ll cue you up to lose!” No expectations…! Just balanced matching based on the level of rank we are matched on… whatever our hidden rank is, should just be our displayed rank… there can be that variance in range of MM too… just don’t try to control everyone’s experiences. It’s really not hard to see how it’s frustrating as a player, knowing you’re having a bad game because the game wants you to… it’s absolutely rigged, even the mechanics feel like they’re screwing you over. Like I had horrible windmill aim last night because for some reason the game just seemingly decided when I could, or that I couldn’t have aim assist. This should never happen! And hey, whether it’s a bug or not, the game needs to be consistent at all times. No intrusive MM or faulty game mechanics, compounding the issues… just provide players with a clean, fair across the board, up and down gameplay experience, give them a straightforward system that doesn’t project wins and losses onto players, where you don’t physically feel held back by the game, and let people have a great time! It’s not rocket science… they make it out to be, but it’s not. This should not still be an issue 2 years after launch, (and in a second consecutive title… H5 had this too) so it’s like now, going on 8 years Halo has been in this state… Just really bad, and I’m glad this issue is finally getting some exposure.
Where's the "update"? What's with the clickbaity title? I normally avoid kneejerk reactions like unsubscribing and telling youtube not to suggest channels to me anymore, but this is a situation that warrants it. 7 minutes I waited for you to explain where this HUGE update was, but it was just max hobermans twitter posts.

That being said, After maybe 3 of those games in a row I get tired and by the 5th game I will be consistently underperforming as a result. I don't love getting stomped, I prefer to always feel like I have a chance to win but I'd rather get stomped every once in a while if it means I get the occasional game where I can relax and chill-
Incidentally under Halo Infinites current matchmaking I am ranked Plat 3 and will play *Ranked* to relax as, for me, every single game I play in ranked is easy and relaxing and chill. This is clearly backwards, I shouldn't be playing Social to sweat and Ranked to chill but I absolutely am
i miss the 1 to 50 system it gave you something to work towards
Ive just been going through all the old Halos, can't wait for Infinite to be fixed and running well with firefight
Get good
I love husky raid, its just chaos, mind the only time I find I lose is when a team hangs back or doesn't prioritise the obj
@@DjGalvanic cringe
Please keep bringing awareness to this! All I play is social however can’t find a game most of the time. When I do, my team is horrible and the other team destroys us. Then once the game is over the average MMR is 1800. You could also make a video on how bad the bug ticket system is on halo waypoint. I’ve had 20+ tickets open for 1.5 years now. Including the issues where I can’t find any matches in 1 hour of searching. The only response I get is “we have given your feedback to the development team for consideration”
Ranked matchmaking is great right now, love how the games are always winnable and close. if I want loose sbmm I’ll go play social playlists
We really just need social features to make the game more enjoyable and community driven
Ranked and social Are basically the same in infinite with their matchmaking system
@@robertadams1558 not really. Ranked matches you by CSR then divides the teams by your MMR with a much stricter system. Social has a loose system that prioritizes wait times so you have high level and low level players together. You won’t ever see Mint Blitz pulling off killionares in ranked.
this is NOT an update. Those are NEWS, OPINIONS
I'd love to see this implemented in Halo Infinite. My wife and I can hardly play together because we have such different skill levels that matches can be unenjoyable when we play together. I'd enjoy if social playlists were just that: social
For this to work you'd have to remove the killing aspect of the game modes. Skill based modes will always be unfair to the unskilled.
I still cant get over the insane gameplay on each video. It's just ludicrous how skilled you are at Halo!
a lot of ppl use aimbot to get automatic headshots it's cheating and you can tell when they're using it
@@kikogarcia8859 nah he just lines up his shots well with good timing

2:30 "you have to play better than your average just to win the game and that's exhausting". Here lies the crux of the debate. Even though it's a social mode and winning shouldn't matter, you still want the dopamine of rush of winning the game, so you're playing to win and are stressing over the outcome. It's your attitude that makes the game sweaty first and foremost, SBMM is a secondary factor.
As per usual, Certain Affinity are the biggest hope for Halo to make a true comeback
Bro baited us 😭
1 cheating is easier than ever today
2 no one wants to get stomped by "that guy" in unranked when people are just having fun being social, as you put it.
Does anyone else miss H5’s Warzone mode? I kinda like the setup of it all
He is absolutely correct on everything he stated. Games are meant to be FUN. Not another job after we get home from our main job
Even the big time sweats dont wanna be doing that 24/7. Nobody does. Thank goodness he spoke out because it really needs to be said by people with connections in the industry and talked about
The title of the video was misleading. But I'm glad I watched. If 343 actually does what the writer of the article says, THEN it will be big news.
God I hope 343 really listens. They have listened so many other times but the silence on this topic really worries me
The music and kill synchronizing at 6:47 is nasty
Nvm thought this was a real update
Handicaps as a solution to matchmaking in low-population social playlists is a very interesting idea. "You're better than these guys, but they get twice the nades and power weapon ammo, and your helmet's on fire making you a priority target. Good luck!"
I don't know how it would play in practice, but I think anyone who chooses the Legendary campaign would at least raise an eyebrow.
Woah! Good looking out, thank you for posting this!
@dau4738 dudes living in 2014 thinking MCC is still broken
Im so glad you are still fighting for this, the matchmaking is insane and I honestly believe if my partner didnt also play my account (we are very different level of skill) I would hate almost every game.
I liked this video, but man the title and thumbnail bamboozled us all😂
Good stuff by Hoberman.
If I’m not getting paid, why are games so stressful?😂
I’ve found myself leaning more and more on pve experiences like warhammer 40k darktide for enjoyment from video games.
So glad Max has a leading role in Arc Raiders
I think Max is 100% right. I'm not sure that his philosophy would work in very team-based games like LoL or DOTA, but for something like Halo and CoD, it's perfect.
It’s supposed to be a party game!
your gameplay is what I think I look like when I get a double kill
So perfectly well said.
Social should be SOCIAL.
Ranked should be RANKED.
Does that not make sense?!?
1:20 halo 4 soundtrack is goated i miss this theme
When I was younger playing H2/H3 online, I didn't even know that SBMM existed. And I think that's when SBMM is at it's best, when players are having fun with the game and don't even know that SBMM is a thing.
The theme for Halo Infinite was changing things for the sake of changing things. Even things that didnt need to be changed like forced Red Vs Blue team colors for Team game types.
-Classic Game types tweaked
-Classic weapons removed
-sbmm being way too strict
-"more customization" but less customization like armor cores and Coatings.
Its like they never heard the Phrase if it aint broke dont fix it.
I remember being a veteran of Halo 2, Halo 3 gave me a special nameplate with the Halo 2 logo
That way everytime I was on matchmaking people knew I was an OG
Can i just say, damn that sniping was miraculous
It would make the game 100x better if they gave the controls to the player to set the matchmaking settings. If you want it to be more sweaty or more casual
I'm absolutely agree. What do you think about classic server browser like from Quake, Unreal, or every multiplayer game before Matchmaking had been developed?
No triple A dev studio will allow us seperate ranked and social playlists. Its part of their live service model, stuff us all in as few playlists as possible
i love playing competitive halo when i’m in the mood and have the energy to spare, but its frustrating when games feel competitive 24/7 to the point i can’t even play with my friends as often because they get frustrated n get off
Couldn't have said anything better myself. Max is completely right. Hopefully 343 are listening.
I really hope 343 sees this. This is what we are talking about. They need to change the matchmaking. Social playlists are basically ranked anyway because of matchmaking works.
Thanks, Mint!!! Glad you put this out there!!!
Plus, it could even be a good opportunity for 343 to set a trend themselves and show to other game devs that you don't need to enforce these "perfect scenarios" in matchmaking.
everything in this video was spot on. The comments talking about continuing lobbies is also a great point I'd love to see implemented.
SBMM should have an inverse relationship
The worse you are, the more strict it is
The better you are, the more loose it gets
I agree with you and him. A huge problem that needs fixed. There needs to be a clear divide between social and ranked. I still won't even play ranked because I can't get fair matches.
Social shouldn't have a matching system; just match available players not based on anything but looking to play and add map/gametype voting. It's social so let us socialize with the lobby.
It is one of main factors of why I stopped playing Halo Infinite. I was tired of having to play at my best otherwise I'd get stomped. It chipped away at my enthusiasm.
It was all downhill after MW2 and Halo 3, I miss these days.
This isn't an update until someone at 343 takes Max's words and does something about it.
Halo 2s matchmaking was the most fun I've had with SBMM it just worked. Loved the 1-50
People seem to be under a misconception that the matchmaking in modern games is a mistake, it’s not.
The gaming industry needs to take notes!
MINT you are a scourge on matchmaking!!! RAMPAGE, FRENZY, KILLIONAIRE!! you're walking dread😉
Max is simply the 🐐
Theres me thinking it was actually getting an update 🤦♂️
Some people say that system simply wouldn't work today but no major game has tried it since maybe 2012. No-one actually knows for certain so what is the harm in trying given the only examples of this kind of matchmaking were very positively received.
Current SBMM has caused entire communities to up and leave so maybe the old system is worth a shot. It would just be great for at least one modern game to give it a go.
Final note (it feels worse to lose a game due to luck than to an overarching system you can't control)
Man I agree with his version of it
It made the game fun.
I think handicaps when one team really outmatches the other could be a great solution. Starting with negative points or something
I’m here to sweat, nothing else.
The biggest issue is how you’re matched with an EXPECTATION given your match history… “ohh you’ve won a couple - you’re getting too far away from our goal of maintaining 50:50 W/L rate - we’ll cue you up to lose!”
No expectations…!
Social game Lobbys where everyone votes on the next map needs to be re added to all games.
Yea that halo 3 playlist on infinite is an absolute sweatfest. Like if you stomp the other team then the MMR hammer comes crashing down so hard.
