North facing is the standard in prebuilts because the standard placement of letters in the keycap is at the top, which puts the led right below the shine-through letter. There is a noticeable difference in the lighting with north and south facing keybs.

I'm all for north facing if the main target is RGB shine through keycaps. But when a company approaches us (a strictly custom reviewer), markets the board towards enthusiasts, and gives us a bunch of features we need, all except one, there's an issue.

I still got a GAS67 (in green, I put some lubed Akko Jelly Blacks and BOW cherry keycaps) because you wont find a gasket mounted keeb this cheap anywhere else. It sounds fantastic, looks fantastic. RGB shines through the PC plate beautifully. The PE foam sheet gives it a real nice creamy/poppy sound. honestly this fatal flaw isn't even that bad because of gateron pro switches. if you're buying a $60 board, you're most likely getting budget switches and keycaps, and that means that gateron pro milky yellows are your best choice. smooth, tight, and pre-lubed nearly as good as manual lubing. and those switches have molds which prevent north facing interference.

Just want to let you know you didn’t quite use what most people would expect as a long pole switch. Yes the mints have a ever so slightly long pole but the bottom housing compensates for that so the switch still bottoms out at 4mm. It’s the same thing for creams in their stock housing. You should be testing with long pole switches that have a 3.5-3.8mm travel distance as I believe that’s what most of the community would expect from “long pole”. Those will also eliminate the interference you experienced.

You have it WRONG! South facing LEDs aren't the answer, getting switch manufacturers to make the switch shell so it can be installed in north or south orientation is the better solution, and is being done by some of the switch manufacturers now. Also, of you use key caps that are 1.3-1.4mm you won't have this issue, but that can be a bit of a trade-off sound wise.

    • @wkang2758

There are certain properties of old switches and switch molds that make them sound or feel better, and some people just prefer them over the newer batches. Granted for the market that this board and other north facing boards is going for, I doubt they’ll care about the older stuff, so your argument does have a point. Most enthusiasts deeper in the hobby don’t care for RGB tho, and they’re the ones paying an arm and a leg for switches, so if the manufacturers have no benefit to making new molds for a market that is likely less willing to pay for switches, I guess thing’s will just stay the same. Just food for thought.

i know that interference is a thing that most enthusiasts want to avoid, but to be fair...
north facing interference is pretty overdramatized these days, after all, there are lots of switches with long poles, and fillets, avoiding interference almost entirely. i also wouldn't call this a "fatal flaw" because...
    1. keebheads in china, where ciy is based, tend to like sa/mg/any other high keycap profile more than any other profile, (and vice versa everywhere else), so i think ciy didn't think about interference issues, since china likes high profiles anyway.
    2. lower pitched sound profiles (thock) have become really popular these days, and one of the things that make a keyboard sound deep is a tall keycap profile. so, again, there might be a chance that ciy just didn't think about it because of the "thock" craze.
i really hope this changes your mind, if not, lets you see another person's perspective on this board. i still agree that it would be much better if ciy/weikav thought 2 steps ahead and made the pcb south facing.
thanks, and sorry for my bad phrasing. i usually write much better than this, but i'm a little tired right now. :)

I'm aware that people with GMK sets will want to use them on whatever board they have, and this board doesn't do nicely with cherry profile without either the paper in keycap stem hole mod or long pole stems. This is $30 on taobao which is absurd, the amount of keyboard you get is crazy for the price

I use a board with a north facing pcb and cherry keycaps and it had interference but I found a way to fix it, I just put a small peice of paper inside the keycap stem

I wonder how hard it would be to use other PCB's on that board, that should in theory mostly fix the issues it has.

Its a pointless effort. The entire point of this product is price. You add to it, there is no value to be had. There are plenty switches right now that have no problem with interference.

most cherry profile keycaps also comes from group buys. I don't see anyone using 100$+ keycaps on a 60$ board. also long pole switches can fix the interference 👍🏻

Where for $12? See it for $30's and it's basically the same crappy 60% with hot swap red switches as a bunch of other similar boards.

North facing isn't the death sentence that folks make it out to be. Iif RGB is the focus, which this board looks to be, those users are going to want north facing anyway. Speaking of, while you didn't use it...you should have at least covered the RGB functionality of the board. How to use it, what software, etc. While this video was well shot and edited as far as a review it didn't really cover the whole product.
