Pickpockets will set up signs in busy places that read, "Are you sure you have your wallet? Look out for pickpockets!" They will stand near the sign, and when people check to make sure their wallet is there, it shows the crook exactly where to search.

You gave the CORRECT answer. As a fmr LEO, we would fish all the time. If that query was answered with, "It's loaded in case I need to blow someone's head off..." then the line of questioning would continue and go a different way. As it was, you came off knowing what you were carrying and why. Don't believe he was looking for a specific answer, just needing an answer to ascertain where to go next. Don't know the circumstances, just a thought. Retired now, and it's too hot where I live to conceal carry, so open carry is the rule, not exception. I've been asked 'fishing' questions by cops a couple of times. The answer I give is, well, no other way to put it except Mature. Never had more than one query from a cop at any one time. Even traffic stops, I give my DL and CCW. They'll ask if I have it on. " Yep, 3 o'clock open," is the answer. An, "OK, thanks," is usually the reply.
However, you were in Cali so hats off to you bro for having an ever so brief encounter with the police!

@@jsldj My bad for misunderstanding that you walked away, without incident. Yes, it could have been worse (but, melting down a TG .380 IS getting pretty bad!). Sorry for your loss. Leads to another thread: we tend to stay out of un-friendly places such as Cali, NJ, NY, Chicago, you name it. If I need to see something there, I Google an image of what I need to see. My 'cop days' were 1979-1993. Still revolvers w/o body armour. We didn't freak when someone stepped out of the car at a traffic stop. We never feared pulling a car over for speeding, didn't lose our minds if someone had a pistol in the glove box. People didn't yell at us. Life went on. Different times!

#2, since I began carry concealed at age 21, it's made me a lot more level-headed, and less inclined to get angry or react since I know the consequences of escalation come with a lot of weight. In all the years since I have only leveled a firearm against someone once, and it resulted in the guy running away. As for #3, my EDC of choice is a Ruger LCP. No safety mech, but a somewhat heavy trigger pull means it's pretty much not needed and I feel comfortable carrying chambered. Good video!

Thank you. Bill of Rights (first 10 amendments to the Constitution) speaks of "rights". Back then before typewriters, words had a broader meaning. "Rights" were "obligations to do what is right". They wrote it that way so it could be applied forever into the future as the technology continued to advance. In our modern world, for most people it is not right or righteous to carry a weapon around with them. BTW, 1st Amendment requires us to speak righteously. We know it is not right to scream "fire" in a crowded theater and the Bill of Rights does not give GROUPS of citizens any rights at all, but various court cases over the years totally changed the meaning of it all. What is "right"? It is what you would want for you or yours in the same set of circumstances.... aka the Golden Rule.

    • @fleatactical7390
      @fleatactical7390 Месяц назад +1

      @@SunriseLAW A few points/thoughts (not criticisms):
      - We have had a printing press for long before the typewriter was developed. The existence of that media is irrelevant to "doing what is right" as you point out.
      - The construct of "screaming fire in a theater" is one that local laws came up with and was asserted by the SCOTUS. It is not enumerated in the 1A itself. You are correct, though, in that "righteousness" should dictate proper behavior instead of needing laws to do so.
-The 1A, like all the other amendments, is a limitation on the government to prevent "Freedom of Religion. Press. Expression." So righteousness does not exactly come into play under the 1A.
      - Righteousness is learned through a good family or religious upbringing... something that is lacking in most families today, in particular in two segments of the population.
      - Who defines "righteousness"? My concern is that any definition of anything, leads to an avenue for corruption by whatever party is in power. We are seeing it with the 2A and the assault weapons bans around the country today, just as an example.

@@fleatactical7390 Excellent analysis, I sense we are generally on the same side. Our "founding fathers" can be thought of as the beatniks of the era... very idealistic, hyped on then-new coffee :):) writing stuff that is hard to apply in the real world because it assumes people are basically honest and empathetic. Most are, too many are not. As it relates to "guns", far too many people buy them who have no business owning them. They don't practice, they don't clean them, many people put them away in a drawer and almost forget they have them They are the #1 target of burglars and that just ain't right :)

The key word in that sentence is SAFELY! lol Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that get guns just to bully and intimidate people which is so wrong. A lot of people need to understand the difference between an actual threat and you just being trigger happy and pulling your gun out any chance you get. If you don’t have the mature mindset to have a gun you shouldn’t have it in my opinion. You are danger to society at that point.

You can't change other people, but there are a lot of trouble causers out there so it might be best to truly conceal if you are not somewhere open carry is allowed. The trouble causers will play the victim, yet aggressively taunt others and say the person is a threat. (which always baffles me, but again... not in my control)

Only thing I disagree with is when you said if you're not carrying with a loaded firearm, don't even carry.
Sure, you might not have time to load in some circumstances, but that doesn't make it any better to be completely defenseless. At least in SOME instances, an unloaded firearm is no different as you may witness something happening slowly and have time to tap and rack.
The only time it may harm you is if you aren't used to it being unloaded and then forget to tap and rack when needed.

You really need to watch some ASP.
My draw stroke is very fast, and it is important to have a fast draw stroke for two reasons.
1.) shit can go down VERY quickly and you need to be able to present your weapon as quickly as possible.
2.) bad guys don't go around wearing black hamburgler masks to let them know you're the bad guy, the less time it takes you to present and fire your weapon the more time you have to assess whether or not what you are facing is an actual threat.
In modern self-loading weapons the thing most likely to cause the gun to malfunction is you.
You try to pull your gun and rack the slide and use short stroke it You're going to hear the loudest sound you ever hear in your life, a click when you're expecting a bang then things are gonna go very badly for you.
If you don't feel comfortable caring a loaded weapon go and get reputable training until you do

I’ve had a CCW instructor proclaim that he carried his concealed handgun in Condition 3, saying he wants to give his assailant every opportunity to back down as chambering a round would show the court that he had no intention to eagerly shoot anyone. Although I could see a point in his logic, his idea of how a gunfight would occur may not go as planned. An example of this would be getting ambushed by an assailant with a crowbar or baseball bat, and getting his off-arm broken while defensively blocking the strike. With a broken arm, it’s going to be difficult to rack the slide of his pistol. One could always employ other methods to one-handedly manipulate the slide, but practicing such techniques before the gunfight would be prudent and, overall, just best to carry Condition One to avoid having to do so. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I carry a Ruger 380 LCP pocket gun that does not have a safety on it. It’s hard to walk around with that thing chambered when I know it could go off without my participation. The clip is in the gun, so I consider it loaded. I’m aware of my surroundings at all times, and it’s safer to chamber in the moment, than to have it go off in my pocket or when I’m pulling it out.

If any brand of gun or ammo spontaneously shot itself without provocation it would be pulled from the market. I'd love to hear the details of a single instance ever where a gun went off by itself.

Your 1911 sure is a beauty. Something like that probably has a tuned trigger. For a gun like that, I would recommend not dropping the slide on an empty chamber. Doing this will damage the sear engagement and in turn cause hammer follow.

I'm 63 years old and am too old to go to Jail. By carrying a revolver I don't have to worry about racking. I carried an auto for years until I had one jam on me. I've been shooting since I was 14 years old and worked in private security in high priority locations, Consulates, Government offices, computer centers, etc. and and trained with Federal agents. The touching aspect is very important, most of the time I don't even realize I'm carrying. One example I went into my daughters school and at some point I realized , I have a gun in my pocket. Carrying condition is a personal choice. Cocked and locked feels good for some, revolvers feel good for others, strikers without safeties carried live or “hot” is the highest risk category and some folks opt to carry them on an empty chamber and although it’s not ideal for a quick draw under immense stress, it does have the lowest likelihood of shooting your own artery.

Yes, but in Utah (I also have non-resident Utah carry permit even though I live in New Jersey) you have to carry unloaded which by Utah definition is non-chambered (in New Jersey regardless of chamber situation any magazine with ammunition in pistol is loaded gun). I believe this exactly part of Utah CCW training on legal concealed carry. Anything changed? Home is different. I always keep at least one loaded in proper holster and secured if not carrying on my property. But in public with special permits one has to follow what license requires.

If anyone gets to within 21 feet of me, I have already accessed them and the situation before I allow anyone to get that close. This excuse of your not gonna have one hand free etc is bogus. A cop has to put himself within hand to hand combat range. Joe blow citizen does not. I believe that racking the slide gives me one more second to decide is deadly force justified as a last resort or am I just being trigger happy?
