Well Bcuz Tagalog and other 100+ native language here in Philippines are syllabic words which means syllables by syllables to construct a sentence therefore mostly longer phrases than English.. Ex. Tagalog : "Do you think I'm stubborn ?" English: "Sa palagay mo ba, matigas ba ulo ko ? " Well you can search the English lyrics for the song ,,, But I prefer her " Panaginip" and "Narinig mo ba" also her one of the hardest songs to sing " Di Mapaliwanag" with acrobatic whistle hehe ..

I think the singing out of the side of her mouth is just a way for her to get certain sounds out...I notice it more in songs she sings in English.. with English not being her native language, some of our sounds are going to be different and could be complicated for non-native speakers. I know from trying to learn Italian (and my husband trying to teach me Japanese) I have to do things with either my mouth, or throat to get certain sounds out cause in English I don't have to do that.

This song is a very good example of that. Even the two translation with the same song has different meanings. Google said "just be mine " captions said "please be mine" actually there is no word "please" from the word akin ka na lang. For others , if they are based on the English translation lyrics , they will feel that it is a very sad song, but it is different ,I don't know how to explain. We knew that morissette when she sang ,she put all emotions in a song. ( Remember "rise up" & stone cold?) Go back to the video and watch again this "akin ka na lang". Morissette is not that sad , she even smile in some instances. Google translation is good word for word but culturally there's some part that gave the whole thing a different meaning. Sometimes it's hard to translate a Filipino song into English that will retain the original meaning because there are words that can not be translated with the same number of syllables or word for word.
Yes. Any song when it gets translated will lose something. The words can so be nice and melodic but some phrases don’t translate either because culturally it didn’t make sense or the literal translation can’t be rewritten in the other language to have the same impact.

I think the singing out of the side of her mouth is just a way for her to get certain sounds out...I notice it more in songs she sings in English.. with English not being her native language, some of our sounds are going to be different and could be complicated for non-native speakers. I know from trying to learn Italian (and my husband trying to teach me Japanese) I have to do things with either my mouth, or throat to get certain sounds out cause in English I don't have to do that.

After watching all the reaction videos to this song, I've noticed the mouth 'thing' as well, I suspect two things #1 English is NOT her native language (it's her 2nd) and it ight be for her breathing in order to hit certain notes

If you used Google translate , there's something wrong with the translation. Used closed captions .
I did. They just weren’t in the video once I downloaded it for this. I mention in the video that I was watching it with CC turned on.
What I was trying to say in the video was that when there is an English version of a song that was originally written in another language, the translated version of the song loses something. Certain phrases that could mean something culturally in the original language could be hard to translate into another language and still make the same impact. Does that make sense?
Like in “Di Sole e D’azzurro” by Giorgia, there is a line that literally translates to “I would like to illuminate your soul,” and for the English translation it’s “With you I believe in miracles”. Another is the opening verse that translates to “I want to talk to your heart,” and the English translation opens with “I never knew til I found you, I’ve seen the stars through your eyes”
Both the literal translation and the English version and poetic in their own way but when a song is translated to another language is loses something that makes it special.

You're right Whitney, certain phrases that could mean something culturally in the original language could be hard to translate into another language. This song is a very good example of that. Even the two translation with the same song has different meanings. Google said "just be mine " captions said "please be mine" actually there is no word "please" from the word akin ka na lang. For others , if they are based on the English translation lyrics , they will feel that it is a very sad song, but it is different ,I don't know how to explain. We knew that morissette when she sang ,she put all emotions in a song. ( Remember "rise up" & stone cold?) Go back to the video and watch again this "akin ka na lang". Morissette is not that sad , she even smile in some instances. Google translation is good word for word but culturally there's some part that gave the whole thing a different meaning. Captions is so close but not quite enough. Check Julia Nilon channel (vocal coach) she has interesting comment about this when she reacted to this song 👌💚👍☑️

Sometimes it's hard to translate a Filipino song into English that will retain the original meaning because there are words that can not be translated with the same number of syllables or word for word.
Yes. Any song when it gets translated will lose something. The words can so be nice and melodic but some phrases don’t translate either because culturally it didn’t make sense or the literal translation can’t be rewritten in the other language to have the same impact.
