Very interesting all the different latch mechanisms. It would be great to have all these designs documented in a book with illustrations etc. I've been repairing a few gates at home with a stick welder and it nice to see this type of content.
I just want to thank you very much, I have been searching the web for latch ideas, as I am rebuilding a cattle corral, these are the best ideas and designs I have found. Thank you so much for posting this kind of information, I am young and trying to rebuild my grandparents ranch, been working on several sections over the past 4 years, I finally decided to rebuild the corral. God bless you, your family and your ranch.
We are very blessed. Found this place 34 years ago and was a diamond in the rough. Didn’t know what we had. Have so enjoyed improving it and making it useful. Thank you so much!
Don’t think I’ve ever seen such a fantastic variety of strong, safe, secure, ingenious and artistic farm gate latches. 😮 I’m sure, as a vet, you’ve seen a fair few nasty cattle/horse/people wounds from protruding gate fasteners. Talking of smart horses, I had one once that when being ridden/hunting he always stretched his neck out to touch any wire by a gate latch to check if it was hot before manoeuvring up close enough for me to lean over to open the gate! 💥🤦🏼♀️ He didn’t seem to mind the shock, was just more careful with the task! 😂
I greatly appreciate your efforts to educate through your videos. Your gate construction is excellent. Regarding your working facility video, do you have a diagram? or do you have any drone footage showing your layout? Your doing a great job, it would help me as I plan for new additions. Also, just a quick Howdy to a fellow Aggie ('80). I have an Ag-Ed degree but I'm just getting started with regenerative farming. Please keep up the good work.
Gates always sag . Sliding bar latches alwsys need space for vertical movement. Fixed holes you always strain hernia in ur gut or pinched nerve in ur back.As long as stock pushing against post in closed position nothing is faster than hooking chain on nails hehe 😊
We bought the pipe but it is not oil field pipe. The panels are store bought. We get them from Producers Cooperative in Bryan, Texas. Their number is 979-778-6000.
All great ideas. Love the designs in the gates. Very memorial.

Thank you. I did that on the fly. Need to do one that encompasses gate latches on other ranches and compile them in one place.

Best of luck to you! Glad you have the interest to take charge of the grandparents ranch…we need young folks!
Really like your video. Latches are great. I’m out in West Texas. I’m going to try one or two. Thank you. Chris
I loved seeing the different latch choices! Thank you so much for a great video. You have a beautiful place.

Horses can be super smart! They can also be not so smart (which keeps me in business 🤦🏻♂️). Thanks for watching!
Excellent video.
Thanks Chris!
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome!
Thank you. That was a great bunch of examples some seem pretty simple others a little more complexed but great.
Thanks for watching!!
You saved the best latch for last ! I like that one the very best. I have a son that can weld. I think I just found him some new projects.
That’s my favorite as well!
Variety, the spice of life.
Indeed! 😊
Thank you for the ideas

Fantastic video! Thanks
Thanks Frank!
Great latches. Note: WD-40 will gum up and get sticky over time. Need to use sometime else. I like BreakFree CLP for everything now.

Thank you for your kind words! I don’t have a diagram of my pens but I will put some drone footage on the to do list!

Excellent point!
Are those cattle panels home built out of oil field pipe or are they "store bought"?
