Great video! Love the caterham 7’s and always wanted one…maybe one day, lol. My choice would be a 420R and for colour etc would be Matt black body, headlights and gloss black nose cone. Hi Mike. Thank you buddy, I appreciate that. I just try and put across what I think in a real world sort of way. I loved that car. So fun. Yeah I've only got cheap kit, although the mics on those Sony cameras are pretty good. I filmed it stop/start over 2 days so to use an external mic and sync it for every clip would have been a massive effort. @@RickTheSpud i did find that with the pedals but a few easy mods have sorted that can heal and toe fine now. Plus the advantage of being still able to drive in normal shoes. Great review. I wouldn't change anything. It doesn't like like it, but do you remember if this car had the lowered floor? How tall are you? It looks like you fit nicely but maybe could have been more comfortable lower?
Awesome car. Top video. We’ll done. More please. Your views on the 7 100% agree. Mine is ballistic orange… your swimming pool cover trick… you can buy a tailor made cover which does just that. Softbits for 7s shower cap. Loads of us use those when we park up…

Is this the one on Dream Car Giveaway? I’ve just bought 10 tickets. Been watching tons of reviews. Like this one best as the reviewer has the exact same hair as me. That alone deserves respect.
Hi Spud, I’d like a Caterham, but realising choice is huge - will prob go for a secondhand 1600, pref SV, ideally 310…have a Stuart Taylor which is a narrow body sevenesque with no roof. Great fun but a roof and doors would improve elements of usability… especially as the weather is soooo wet (:o)
Hi. Yes mate. It was. But was only lent out to me I believe as they stopped doing the 1.6 Sigma engine shortly after. You buying this car? Was just auctioned on Dream Car Giveaways.
Ah brill! Glad you love it! I think that 1.6 is the sweet spot, love it! Where are you in the country? Next time you're near Goodwood message me on IG, I'd love to see it again! 😎👌
Thanks buddy! This actual car is for sale at the moment. I believe it's up for £34k. Which seems like a lot for a tiny car with no roof or luxurious, but honestly it's the most engaging drive of your life. And they don't seem to depreciate. I can't recommend them enough! 🥰 Caterham stock here... www.caterhamcars.com/en/in-stock
Heya. Yeah, footwells are wider and there's generally just more space everywhere. Much more liveable. Heel and toe on an SV (wide) chassis is more conventional actual heel and toe as the pedals are further apart, where as on the normal (narrow) chassis it's more big toe/little toe and per the video. 👊
Enjoyed watching your "ice cream trip" around London in that fluorescent green 7 some weeks back. ---Sorry you don't quite fit the original chassis. At 6'1" and 200 LBS I still do and rather well especially with the leather "comfy seats". Almost 40 years ago (on my first long-cockpit live axle 7) I fitted a piece of "Lee Filters" "Congo Blue" cine-gel over the main beam warning light so as to give an unobtrusive and distinctive deep violet indication. I also prefer a non-obnoxious "Pearlescent Off-white" finish for night time visibility and a bit of subtle, uh, class.
Thank you buddy. Yeah that was a fun night for sure. I've watched it back a few times to re-live the evening! 🥰 Yeah the leather seats in the narrow chassis is the best option for me I think, the carbon seats are a bit tight for me, although very supportive, the strap length is too short for where the buckle ends up, although fine in the SV chassis. 👊😉
It'll depend on what you do with the car, for road use you don't need much cavalry to have a good one. Nice review! In the 485 the 2 only lights off all the time are the turning lights :S
Cuz. That is a really good video, well shot and far, far, better than Top gear, which ceased to be a proper petrol head show years ago. Anyhow I’d say you’ve done such a great job. But you lose points not driving up to Preston to let you cuz have a drive. 😉 I’ll discuss thi further at the weekend 🤨
@@RickTheSpud Its been my dream to own one for the last year. I tried many great sport cars last year, but none of them gave me the right kick. I am talking about new M3, M4 Competition, Taycan S CT, GT3RS, no kidding... and each time I got out I thought of how would I like a Caterham, I sense its the right machine for me. It may not be the fastest, not the most glorified or iconic in the automotive history, but for me it is. I feel like it has that pure and raw, visceral feel, great attachment to it, feeling of the moment, and not much more to it. No unnecessary electronics or some distractive features, nothing. I would certainly rent it out, but sadly its not possible to do so in my country. So I am determined to save up and buy it. Its the only option! :) Keep up the great content, take care!
@@goitsumoto Yes mate you've hit the nail on the head there. Too many cars now leave you feeling disconnected and are just too fast! Put your foot down for 2 seconds and you're doing triple figures. These little Caterhams give you all the sense of fun and speed at half the pace. Great fun!
It's so sad they ran out of the sigma engines and stopped making the 1.6L caterhams. I heard rumors that they might start making the cars with miata 1.6L engines. Well...hopefully they go through with it.
Ah good choices! The struggle is real! 😆 From chatting with owners of Atoms and having done a lot of miles in Caterhams, the Atoms seem quicker but are even more comprised, with no protection from wind or rain, and no where to put anything. @@flwryvv Ah thank you buddy, very kind, and high praise for sure if you've already seen a bunch. It was great to live with one for a week and find out it's quirks. Overall a great fun package and awesome bit of kit. I'm all for less power and less weight (apart from me!) as it just adds to the experience. Modern stuff is too smooth and perfected, great for most people and most daily driving but too detached for fun driving. And everything is so powerful and fast, you can't wring anything out for more than 2 seconds without having to back off again. Foot to the floor is where you feel alive! 🤩🤗❤️
Very true. Id also feel afraid about something going bang in say, an M5 (which are around the same cost) as the bills would be catastrophic no doubt, where as a lightweight vehicle could be repaired relatively easily and cheaply if any catastrophic failures were to occur. 😁😁👍🏻👍🏻
Does anybody know the acceleration Times? I am asking Just to compare with the 135 HP 275. If the Higher price for the 310 is worthy 0-160 km/h 80-120 km/h in 3rd 80-160 km/h
But the plus of power is generated by other camshafts. In my knowledge this kind of tuning works Just in the high revs, so you will NOT get a better punch in middle revs. In Germany we even can Not Order the 310, so it is on the customer to find out how he can do some tuning and if it is required.

I managed something reasonably good with the recent Morgan video, but there was 2 of us and Pete could drop me off to film some drivebys, always handy!
I'll try and keep up the good work! 😉🤩👌
No. Banter. This was like an episode of Top Gear! Especially that intro 🔥🔥🔥
Mate, you're a legend! So kind of you. I didn't know if the intro was a bit cheesy or not, but I kinda liked it - drop the beat, down change, drive by - just trying to look cool! 😆
Finally caught up. You've nailed it! A lot to be said for just being natural and having fun...that's what has come across with the technical info, the pros and cons. I love the colour, agree about the fuel gauge and the hazard light switch...bet an easy fix for Caterham. Keep up the great work. Ps. COVID hips are real.. I have to get in/out of a Lotus Elise, trying not to look like a drunken sod. Cheers from Oz 🇦🇺
😆 Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it. I meant to talk more about driving engagement like a 'proper' review, but it's just mega all round so I forgot! 🤦♂️😂
Great review. I wouldn't change anything. It doesn't like like it, but do you remember if this car had the lowered floor? How tall are you? It looks like you fit nicely but maybe could have been more comfortable lower?
Thanks buddy.
Yep lowered floor on this one. I'm 6 foot so would defo go lowered floor. 😎👌
Awesome car. Top video. We’ll done. More please. Your views on the 7 100% agree. Mine is ballistic orange… your swimming pool cover trick… you can buy a tailor made cover which does just that. Softbits for 7s shower cap. Loads of us use those when we park up…
Ah that's amazing. Thank you so much! Orange ones look mega! I'd have to go this grey, or a dark purple! 😎👌
So funny about the pool cover! I didn't have a full roof so I had to improvise! 😆
Brilliant all the way through! I've just bought my first 7 and now looking forward to enjoying it :)
Thank you Tony.
Honestly buddy, IMO the most fun you can have in a car. Stripped back fun at sensible speeds.
I've watched my Wales trip video a few times to re-live the day as I'd love to get one.
One day. 😉
Time someone designed air intake and venting get the Engine heat moving under the car and away from the passengers area ......insulate the Firewall too .
To be fair this is with the heater matrix lever open, with it shut it's not too bad. 🤗
Honestly Rick a great review.
Thank you mate. I love Caterhams, so engaging and awesome to drive, and totally unpractical! 😂
Is this the one on Dream Car Giveaway? I’ve just bought 10 tickets. Been watching tons of reviews. Like this one best as the reviewer has the exact same hair as me. That alone deserves respect.
👊😂
Oh really? Dream Car Giveaways? I might have to buy a ticket...
@@RickTheSpudgreat video. You’re a fantastic presenter. Very natural and not too over the top, not copying Clarkson. I’ve subscribed. Love this video.
Ah bless you buddy! Really appreciate that.
I'm off to buy a ticket to win 'my' car back!
Check out the Wales video too... 👊
Great video with lots of helpful points made, thanks..
Happy to help bud! 👊
What you thinking of buying?
Hi Spud, I’d like a Caterham, but realising choice is huge - will prob go for a secondhand 1600, pref SV, ideally 310…have a Stuart Taylor which is a narrow body sevenesque with no roof. Great fun but a roof and doors would improve elements of usability… especially as the weather is soooo wet (:o)
Sounds like a good choice.
SV is a better quality of life if you're not small or like to take passengers. Try to get a lowered floor too. 👊
Great vid mate.
Thanks buddy. 👌
It was my first ever press car and I got a bit excited with filming and editing! 👊😉
Thanks for this Rick, great video. Looking forward to the next one. Try and blag one of these for a Petrol Heads tour 😎
Thank man!
Honestly, that would be awesome! Unless it rained the whole time! 😆
@@RickTheSpud Just take the swimming pool cover Rick ☔
@@mbp1505 😆😆😆 Can't drive with that on! 😂
Great video and a lovely car
Thanks mate, and yes, agreed! 😎👌
Hit that subscribe if you haven't, and check out my Wales vid in the same car!
Hi Rich could you please tell if the car was a caterham press car? I'm just just chasing some history as I'm thinking of buying the car.
Cheers Rob
Hi. Yes mate. It was. But was only lent out to me I believe as they stopped doing the 1.6 Sigma engine shortly after. You buying this car? Was just auctioned on Dream Car Giveaways.
Thanks Rich for your reply mate can you tell if I can get a copy of the car on the bridge anywhere? Cheers Rob
Not a clue mate, got it on my computer somewhere! Have you bought it?
@@RickTheSpud
Hi yes 👍 I love the car and the colour I'll take a copy with my tablet and get my daughter to do the rest 😁love your vids mate 👍👍
Ah brill! Glad you love it! I think that 1.6 is the sweet spot, love it!
Where are you in the country? Next time you're near Goodwood message me on IG, I'd love to see it again! 😎👌
Great video mate. What would this car be worth?
Thanks buddy!
This actual car is for sale at the moment. I believe it's up for £34k. Which seems like a lot for a tiny car with no roof or luxurious, but honestly it's the most engaging drive of your life. And they don't seem to depreciate. I can't recommend them enough! 🥰

Love it! I'd love a Caterham for hooning about in!
They're sooooo much fun! A two seater go-kart with numberplates! 😜
Is there more room for your feet in the large chassis cars?
Good straight review, realistic and useful. Not the usual over styled presenter trying to be centre of attention over the car in question👍
Thank you Rob, appreciate that mate. 😉👌
Yeah the leather seats in the narrow chassis is the best option for me I think, the carbon seats are a bit tight for me, although very supportive, the strap length is too short for where the buckle ends up, although fine in the SV chassis. 👊😉
Superb vid mate, you come across so well 😎
Ah thanks mate. Still feels weird talking to camera but if you think it comes across OK I'm happy with that! 😉👌
Great review mate! Loved it! Well done.
Ah thank you mate. 🤗
It'll depend on what you do with the car, for road use you don't need much cavalry to have a good one. Nice review! In the 485 the 2 only lights off all the time are the turning lights :S
100% agree and Thank You. 👌
Awesome. I'd love a go in a 485, not sure we get that in the UK but I might be wrong... 😉

Haha. Appreciate that mate. Will do...
Great Review Mate,
Thank you buddy. Having a fun car makes it easier! 😉
Ah man, I envy you in a good way! I would love to at least rent out if not buy a Caterham...so much fun

@@RickTheSpud I already subbed couple of days ago!
@@goitsumoto Yes mate you've hit the nail on the head there. Too many cars now leave you feeling disconnected and are just too fast! Put your foot down for 2 seconds and you're doing triple figures. These little Caterhams give you all the sense of fun and speed at half the pace. Great fun!
How often do you burn your leg on the exhaust getting out of a Caterham?
Only once if it's bad enough! 😜😂

Haha, yeah defo. Great as long as you're moving, otherwise it drips into the boot! 😉😂
It's so sad they ran out of the sigma engines and stopped making the 1.6L caterhams.
I heard rumors that they might start making the cars with miata 1.6L engines.
Well...hopefully they go through with it.
Yeah agreed. Such a great buzzy little engine. More than enough power for a good thrash! 🤗
Really great video! Thanks for making it.
Im in the market for either a Caterham 310r or a 245 ariel atom.
#crisis.
Ah good choices! The struggle is real! 😆
From chatting with owners of Atoms and having done a lot of miles in Caterhams, the Atoms seem quicker but are even more comprised, with no protection from wind or rain, and no where to put anything. The wind and weather comes through the sides, and even with waterproofs on goes up your legs and sleeves! 🤦♂️🙄😉
@@RickTheSpud I know it's a nice predicament to be in!.
Your video was probably the best I've seen as a review. Really helpful.
Hardly any atoms for sale in the winter months also, prices are very strong.
Caterham market seems a little different, popularity is higher also lots of parts available by the looks.
I've just followed your Instagram also, keep the content up, it's Great!
@@flwryvv Yep. And an M5 you're gonna get big bills anyway. And you won't see 30mpg when you're driving it hard like a Caterham! 😉
It's like a bass fishing video on land without fish.
OK. I'm not sure what that means.
If this video didn't have a Caterham in it I would see your point... 🤔🤷♂️
Superb mate. New subscriber here.
Thank you Jeff. Appreciate that buddy. 👊
Does anybody know the acceleration Times? I am asking Just to compare with the 135 HP 275. If the Higher price for the 310 is worthy
0-160 km/h
80-120 km/h in 3rd
80-160 km/h
Not a clue mate, it will feel a bit more punchy as it's nearly another 20hp, what mid range pull and overall acceleration feels like I couldn't say...
But the plus of power is generated by other camshafts. In my knowledge this kind of tuning works Just in the high revs, so you will NOT get a better punch in middle revs.
In Germany we even can Not Order the 310, so it is on the customer to find out how he can do some tuning and if it is required.
@@all_out_of_bubble_gum Ah I see, well I found the 310R very punchy in the mid range, but will the mods you do make it the same as a stock 310R?
Good points positive and negative cheers
No worries. Tried to be fair, but overall I absolutely love these things! 😎👌
