Remember if u want to be a leader, u dont need to be strong like Levi. I know Levi is stronger, far stronger than Erwin, but Erwin is so much better when he Lead. A leader must be wise in making every decision, what is the future, and be willing to sacrifice. Same with Cannon. The people who control the Cannon is weak and not strong, but without the people who control the Cannon, the Cannon would not fire up right? Thats why Survey Corps leader is always weak like Erwin, Armin, Hange, they are not strong enough to kill 200 Titans like Levi, but their brain is what lead them to victory. Also, thats why Erwin wants to choose Hange as a new Leader when he died and not Levi. Why? She is more Senior (if u look at Season 1, when Levi joins the Survey Corps, u will see in front of the line, there is Hange. Which mean, before Levi joins Survey Corps, Hange join first) and also she is a better thinker and so much wiser in making decisions.

@Motivation hey chill bro erwins plans lead more steps to victory but major casualties armins plays are sometimes ass but they do sum but not as much but Saving armin was the best choice but chill
What happened already happened
@Motivation All of Erwin's plans were risky, but all were guaranteed success... They would not have succeeded in saving Eren if it wasn't for him, and neither would it have been possible to retake Wall Maria if it wasn't for Erwin. Overthrowing the corrupt government was all Erwin too, including capturing the Female Titan. These among many other things. All Armin did was add support to Erwin's plans.
I am not saying it would have been better to choose Erwin than Armin - Armin is a main character after all. Even I would choose to save Armin over Erwin, but do not disregard Erwin like that. If it wasn't for Erwin, there would be no guarantee for success, and casualties suffered would have been way more than with Erwin.

Ngl, when I watched that for the first time, I cried. Thinking of what Erwin was feeling. Ever since he became Commander it's always been bleak. Everytime they ventured out of the walls, more soldiers died. Their families blamed Erwin for it. Always.
It's not like he had a choice. Both as the Commander of Survey Corps and as a son trying to prove his father's theory right, defeating the Titans was all he could do. But even with all his determination, with his strategies, the will to throw everything away and Humanity's Greatest Soldier under his command, he couldn't make any significant progress.
But in this moment, for the first time, the people who called Survey Corps a burden on Humanity cheered for them. Actually treating them like the heroes countless deceased soldiers deserved. You can see it on his face, the sheer joy and hope that if they succeed, that's the kind of Welcome they will always receive.
It took countless sacrifices, years of hard work, nerves of steel and the loss of an arm for Erwin to be acknowledged by the people just once.
But he didn't know it would be his last.

He probably did, that Titan could’ve easily eaten him, and he still would’ve given orders
Victory at all costs.
Yeah.
What motivated him to do what he did in Aot was his dream that he had after that one history class with his dad. In the words of Kenny, "Everyone's a slave to something." Erwin was a slave to his dream, and dying would finally free him from that. This is reflected when Levi has to make the decision to save Armin or Erwin. While Erwin would probably be a service to humanity if he were brought back, it would not be a service to Erwin himself. I think Erwin is very well written because of this motivation, and Levi as well because he recognizes he has to let Erwin give up on his dream and die.
I believe Erwin sub-consciously realizes this because he doesn't resist when the titan picks him up, but yeah.
He then proceeded to save Eren too.

Just like in real life, no matter how hard working we are, no matter how effective and efficient we are, or how talented and Smart we are, there's those things that can't be allowed by fate.
Its just tragically poetic
Damm I love your thinking
He could actually, Didn't you see his last moments with levi? Telling him what would he do after accomplishing his goal and saying he'll lose his purpose to go forward. And he literally bat Levi's hand away when he tried to inject him.

Ever since Erwin died the show just became a dark depressing drama show, no more “lets fuckin go complete an arc and save the fucking world” vibe anymore
true, you describe something that I've been feeling but unable to word it out....it feels empty without Erwin taichou
Exactly.
This is what made the show so amazing. My god it was absolutely amazing. Then season 3 ends kind of weird and season 4 part 1 was shit compared to season 1 and season 2.
The writer ruined the direction this was heading.
@@DaveThaBossDTB I disagree, the later seasons are much better
I still think the show possesses that vibe but it's matured in a way much like the characters. They were all so naive and believed it was them versus the titans, and it was a pretty black and white approach. The monsters vs humanity. But after Erwin dies and they reach the sea, they learn about the outside world and that there's much more complex forces at work. Yea it sucks not having his speeches and spirit, but the scouts still embody that underdog lets save the world vibe. I think the greatest example of this was when they show up to Liberio or whatever and hold their own against a much more advanced military. But yea it is much darker, but I think it's intentional, much like as we mature from children to adults, our world views grow darker (I mean look what happened to all the kids on the show)
@@DaveThaBossDTB completey disagree. S4 adds a whole new perspective and I love the show n writers for that.
i hate how there are people that genuinely think erwin just liked death or sent his soldiers to die for no reason whatsoever. did we even watch the same anime? erwin felt guilty for his actions, yet armin said it himself (not quoting, but i'm sure he said something along the lines of): if you aren't willing to make sacrifices, you can't achieve victory.
erwin sent people to their deaths for a chance to achieve victory.
the people that accuse him of being a monster and that he only wanted death and bloodshed and anything like that forget that he was also the one to create the long-distance enemy scouting formation, designed to have the least amount of titan encounters as possible and avoid death as much as they could. why would he do that if he just wanted to send people to their demise?
anyways, yeah. i can't really change anyone's opinions but whether you like it or not, erwin's character is incredibly well written, and he's one of the best, if not the best in the aot universe, imo.

@@DriedJizzSock Fuck, my autocorrect literally messed up my comment. "You can't, Levi is badass tho"
their strengths cant b compared its in completely diff areas its why they make such a good team they both need each other because even the best laid out plans are only as good as the pieces on the ground executing it Erwins smarts and will to achieve the end goal despite the cost makes him a superb commander with leadership skills and Levis unparalleled fighting skills and combat sense makes him the perfect warrior to achieving success for Erwins plans
In my opinion. Both are badass in their own way, levi is badass in fighting and erwin is the best in commanding and strategy. I'm not even talking about their appearance, ok.
Levi aside from best in fighting, he has through a lot but came out positive. Try me, not everyone can come out positive after living like when levi was in the underground. He's also very caring despite his looks and demeanor.
Erwin too, since he was a child he's smart and even know that the dead of his father is suspicious but keep his emotion to keep fighting searching for the right answer. He also help levi overcome the death of his friends and trust him too.
Both trust each other, that's what makes they all badass. Teamwork. Erwin seems like so determined to always seeking for the truth because he experienced first hand there's something wrong with the government. While levi, who's living underground only know how to survive and doesn't even know what's going on up there until he joined scouts. He end up looking up to erwin and after all those times he's in the scouts, he realized he will also pursue the right side and help humanity.
Without levi, it will be very hard to fight all the titans while doing expedition outside the walls. There's a chance even all scouts members will die and no one will continue the scouts. People will always living inside the walls until enemy's wiped out humanity. Erwin is so good at judgement that he trust levi.
Without Erwin, no plan will be as good as his (ofc before armin there). The trust he has for his members. All those for the sake of humanity too. He knows, without losing anything they won't make a progress. He's a badass for that, moreover... he also throwing the corrupt government upside down too.

Guys, you really have to understand that this is a war between mere humans and gigantic, almost unkillable, beasts. Causalties are just an unavoidable consequence in every single operation. There is no doubt that he was the Survey Corps Commander with the more losses under his leadership.Though, can you really blame him?
In every instant, he was next to his soldiers, always risking his life along with theirs, even sacrificing it in the most utter time. Most importantly, his ruthlessness and dedication is what pushed mankind more and more towards victory. It's obvious that no previous commander was such a "devil" like he did. It's obvious that no previous commander was ruthless enough to sacrifice everything and everyone for their biggest cause. This is why they buckled and failed and this is why he managed to achieve what he achieved. He became an inhuman monster in order to eradicate the true monsters from this world.
I think him not only fighting alongside everyone but also fighting in the front lines makes him redeemable imo.

That question was meaning “who among the scouts is the enemy”, hence the way he glares at them after asking provoking questions. He knew there were traitors in the scouts, so the expedition was not only to capture Annie but also to reveal Reiner and Bertoldt. They gave Reiner a false location for Eren, and he fell for the trap by sending Annie there.
Also he scared away most the scouts because he knew the traitors would stay.
