Doesn't matter as much, I mean one week isn't suddenly gonna reverse everything, Ammar's bloodproteins that is bind to sugar (HBA1) is still higher than someone's HBA1 who eats healthy. however it's a start.
Isn't it surprising how majority of people know that fast food is making us perform worse IN EVERY ASPECT OF LIFE, and yet it is still the most popular type of food people eat? Videos like this are very helpful, I hope some people change their minds and decide to live healthier.
It’s sadly not just the What bur also the How. People who don’t have a healthy diet, mostly just straight up don’t know healthy foods. The know of vegetables and fruits but not how to make them a meal.

Have a shelf with 2 fancy cookbooks and stacks of printed recipes none of which have ever been used for good measure 😏 I need to get around to actually learning to cook from recipes oof my style of cooking so far is just put a bunch of random vegetables together and cook them and if it turns out bad give it to the chickens
Bottles of whole spices look so fancy: peppercorns, star anise seeds, cardamom pods. Plus buy the carrots with green tops attached and just lay a couple on the counter as if your going to use them soon. Sprinkle rock salt with your fingers in a fancy flourish and slap a fresh slice of lemon or lime on every plate, and voila, you're a gourmet.
Me too but sugar is so addicting that I am not able mentally to change long term, after one or two week it gets unhealthy again… even if u know how bad it is and how bad u feel physically and mentally. End of august I have my first appointment for help 🤩
fun fact, in my country eating fast food are still considered "cool" by majority of the people, mom often bring their kids to fast food places to celebrate their kids achievements for example, it emits prestige vibes if you eat there, because it's modern, western, and for a price of a set of big mac you can literally have enough to buy 3 days worth of fresh from the farm ingredients.
@Luís Even in Iceland, which is not considered a third world country, while everything is expensive, a subway sandwich (the ad; I didn't eat one) was like ten bucks. For twice that, I got a three course local meal with smoked reindeer.

@Templex do it gradually! Try for at least one piece of fruit a day and bump it up over time. Hide veggies in chili, and make smoothies, things like that. as someone who has been in recovery from anorexia and orthorexia for 3 years, this video is so refreshing and it is so helpful to think of food in terms of how will it make me feel? how will it affect my mental clarity? how will it affect my sleep and energy? rather than, will it make me fat? is it too many calories and too much sugar? is it "bad"? moving away from guilt and shame and a restrictive mindset and moving towards grace and gentle nutrition to help me be the best i can is so encouraging!!
As someone who also dealt with anorexia and orthorexia for 2 years, and took 2/3 years to recover i definitely know what you mean! It a waayyy better mindset than thinking of food as just calories.
Portion size matters too. Anyone would feel completely sick and drained after eating the size of fast food meals he ate in the video. If I get fast food I rarely go above a small size and I don't drink soda
Well not really. He was just ordering a meal (burger, fries, drink) and something sweet after. Which is what people tend to go for when going to McDonalds. Most dont just get a BigMac and call it a day.

I'm a college student who is also into body building so I try to eat healthy everyday. The thing is, it's so damn expensive! Imagine if they made fast food more expensive and healthy foods less expensive. I wonder if more people would make the switch or if it would stay the same since people are addicted to junk food
Hi! I’m curious to know how much you spend? I’m Italian and live in Italy and would love to compare expenses (given that we also have lower income though)
Eating healthy gets cheaper with practice. Opening your fridge and "free styling" a meal out of ingredients that will go bad first is an important skill that takes practice.
I‘ve once read that in america every food product is considered safe until proven unsafe. In europe they are unsafe until the company can prove through studies that the product is safe and only then it can be sold
Never? What about smoking? Or alcohol? And if cutting those out entirely isn’t bad, what’s so special about sugar? You can eat sugar if you want to, and obviously moderation is better than indulgence. But you do not *need* sugar, and sometimes complete abstinence is easier than moderation. It is a matter of choice and what works for the individual.
For anyone trying to cook for themselves or their family, I'd highly recommend getting a slow cooker. Meals can be simple, take less prep time, but still taste amazing and be good for you 🙂
Wish they would’ve had the doctor take some measurements first, like cholesterol, tryicerides, glucose levels, hormones, etc., then again after seven days. Would love to see the results.
One week won’t make too much of a difference for conclusive evidence except maybe measurements and weight - fasting glucose may be an interesting one to see. But as far as cholesterol goes, there would need to be a little more than 7 days time.
I have a really bad binge disorder. I will usually drink a coffee in the morning, I only have lunch half the time but when I come home I’ll binge on over 4000 calories, sometimes even more. I’m always tired and have high cholesterol (in 17 but it’s genetic) meaning what I eat puts me at risk for heart issues. Recently I’ve started seeing a food therapist who’s helped me make changes toward a healthier life. I still really struggle, especially when I “relapse” but I think I’m getting better. This video is a great representation of not only what food can do to your body, but also how it controls you mind.
I know this is an old comment, but just wanted to say that I’ve had the same experience! I struggled most of my life with binge eating and a generally unhealthy relationship with food, but working with a weight neutral nutrition counselor was so helpful for me. I definitely learned to prioritize having full meals for breakfast and lunch, but also to work through my internal stigma around binge foods. Once I started eating consistently, and not restricting any types of food, I binged less, and my body started to crave more veggies/fruit/etc. I hope you’ve had a helpful experience as well! I recommend reading about intuitive eating, if you haven’t. I like this video, but some of the shaming around fast/processed video isn’t really helpful for people specifically with disordered eating.
I'm so glad you mentioned that your diet helped combat how you feel in terms of your mental health. So many people forget about the simple changes you can make to things like diet to treat mental health, and how powerful looking at how you can change your own life to make yourself feel better is. This should be the absolute first step in your journey yet doctors are prescribing bills before advising people on how they can better themselves.
I agree that it's great to mention! I see a lot of overactive kiddos because of their diet. Kids that basically live off sugary snacks. Pills can be helpful, for example healthy eating gives me more energy but does nothing for my depression. But it should always be the last option with most mental health issues.

Ive been aware of these decisions, but have been lacking the motivation to change my diet and lifestyle, this video honestly gave me so much motivation to get back to where I used to be, thank you guys for doing this and bringing more awareness to how much eating can impact your mental health. Tomorrow is a new day and I’m going to change one day at a time :)
It was the processed food that made you feel like shit. Not the animal protein. Good luck though. Some people can sustain being vegan if you chow a ton of spirulina. I did the opposite. I had a standard American diet, read the four hour body, healthy meats, slow carbs, good fats, lots of greens, one cheat day a week. Inflammation gone, no cholesterol issues (eating all kinds of meat). Everyone’s needs are different. Vegan doesn’t work for everyone just like my way of eating doesn’t. Find yours and don’t be a bi*ch about it. More than one way to skin a cat. Or a piece of tofu.

I'm 3 weeks into a drastic change of diet. I went from consuming 3000 calories or more everyday full of fatty dishes, fast food, sugar desserts, alcohol almost every night and with no exercise at all. To now consuming only a maximum of 1,500 calories a day, full of vegetables, protein, white rice, black coffee and working out. It's the best feeling I've felt in a while. I can sleep well, I no longer feel drowsy during the day, I got rid of my acid reflux and so far everything is good. I hope I can be consistent on this change of lifestyle :)
I changed my diet to working out and eating more healthy, but also learning to actually cook rather than simple meals.. got acid reflex and kind of stopped after awhile. I was just trying to gain weight to donate blood, still haven't achieved that goal. I got tired of eating so much. Trying to consume what's in my fridge (still good stuff like frozen fruit, fish, greens, veggies) before I start a new journey of trying again using rainbow food method each day rather than calorie counting. The United States is the *only* place I've ever seen where processed food/fast food is actually cheaper than "regular" homemade food and that is very telling.
True, my digestive system did not appreciate my holidays there but if we wanted to buy fresh and non processed, we would have had to cut our holidays short 😄
Pretty much the same thing in many 3rd world countries too. A pack of instant noodles/ramen in my country is as low as USD 0.10, versus the cheapest bundle of local spinach being double the price. The former can be stretched with an egg and rice to feed a family of six, while the latter would need other condiments/sauces/pantry staples that not many have. At least where I live. Doesn't matter as much, I mean one week isn't suddenly gonna reverse everything, Ammar's bloodproteins that is bind to sugar (HBA1) is still higher than someone's HBA1 who eats healthy. however it's a start.

It’s sadly not just the What bur also the How. People who don’t have a healthy diet, mostly just straight up don’t know healthy foods. The know of vegetables and fruits but not how to make them a meal.

BALANCE IS KEY! I cannot preach this enough. a 80-20 % of more wholesome foods and then the goodies is great. cutting anything out is never good
Cutting added sugars out is not bad thing?
Goody fruits, sure. But added sugars, cut that out if you can.
Balance is unnecessary- it’s only for people who can’t commit - once you stop eating junk you won’t crave it
I agree balance is key but you can make your own goodies

The former can be stretched with an egg and rice to feed a family of six, while the latter would need other condiments/sauces/pantry staples that not many have. At least where I live.
TLDR: For a first world country, the US food culture behaves closer to that of a third world country.
@@ohoh7541 Im In 3rd world country too but a medium sized pizza at pizza hut costs just as much as 75% of monthly groceries
@@patheticgamer325 yeah, pizza can be pricey especially if you're coming from somewhere where bread isn't really a staple. A USD15 pizza would easily buy 2kg of pork plus the veggies, but time and capacity to cook it may be inhibitive for some. Though that same USD15 can also purchase 15 cans of corned beef where a can = 1 whole day of sodium requirement.

I started watching what I was eating a month ago.. I began to eat healthier, I'm so much happier now!
Legit everyone who has done what you started doing will say this. It's such a good feeling.
@@rikittu yup then all the sweets and chips will just taste gross or be seen as how most people see vegetables etc
Wow, I am impressed Ammar didn't have any sugar withdrawals. He completed the one week healthy eating so well and the last meal he cooked for everyone looked so delicious!
I am glad my teacher made us watch super sized me in class when I was in school. Education on topics like these is so important.
Another masterpiece of a video by yes theory. You guys give inspiration, advice, perspective, it’s beautiful.
Supersize me was bullshit though. Absolutely contrived to make it look as extreme as possible. There is no way it should have taken him 14 months to lose the weight afterwards.. You can safely lose a few pounds of fat a week, that's 112 pounds.. He didn't gain 112lbs in 30 days..
Spurlock also lied about having a girlfriend in the movie. That woman admitted to being a paid actress..
@@gstylez0107 there’s a good and very funny documentary called “fat head” on this if you haven’t seen it.
If people watched super size me and it created the reaction like Thomas had then I’m at least glad he and others awoke to healthier choices. But I wouldn’t argue that you have to make an untruthful documentary to inspire someone to eat better
@@kellenbecker3427 haha. I was going to mention that documentary but I forgot what it was called. Perfect example of how easily documentaries can influence people..
This was sooo good! Thanks for the selfless act of becoming a cheese burger to teach us that “ you are what you eat” 🙏

Well shit
As someone who grew up with unhealthy family members, I’m so grateful I learned how to fuel my body properly before adulthood. Seeing the negative affects eating bad has on your health made me so much more aware of how I treat myself.
Definitely different from what I experience when I gave up processed sugars, preservatives, alcohol and grain. The first week wasn’t pleasant at all. I had headaches and was really irritable although I did sleep really well. At the end of the week I started my workout routine back up and was shocked about how well I did. The amount of weight I was lifting, and the distance I ran took me by surprise. I feel better now and only drink, and eat junk food on very special occasions.
It’s so sad that most of the country lives and functions off of Thomas’s diet
Yup and people wonder why they always feel tired, rundown, depressed… not to mention all of the health consequences like diabetes, heart conditions and inflammation diseases
That's why the diabetes and obesity pandemic is more severe than the flu and covid.
No, he was the healthy one.
@@cbjewelz lmfao it's not just the diet. It's how everyone sits around after they eat. then again....if you're eating food like that...you're going to get tired and sleepy lol.

Wow this episode made me realize how bad I have been eating all my life and why i feel the way I do on a daily basis. This was a huge eye opener and I am going to try to apply what i learned from this video to my daily life. I have been watching Yes Theory for a little over 2 months now since I discovered it and I absolutely love this channel. Thumbs up to Thomas and Ammar for going through this challenge. You guys are awesome, I usually binge watch your videos lol Yes Theory has brought so much joy and happiness to my life and it feels like im a part of the family with you guys. I cannot imagine my life without Yes Theory!!! God Bless You All!!!!!
The saturation looks turned down for thomas' clips, and it's turned up for amars making his healthy food more appealing the watch than the unhealthy. Very smart guys, eat healthier
yeah its really biased, it doesnt feel like a real experiment
@@andresbarrera515 Thomas said he wasn’t feeling good after 1 day and said he was ‘dazed’ I think that seems like what they said is correct

Late 2020, I decided to stop eating foods with added sugars. At the time I weighed 185 pounds. Fast forward to now, I'm still not eating sugar and I weigh 157 pounds. In less than 7 months I've lost almost 30 pounds. Added sugars really play a role in being overweight!
Happy for you! Did the same thing 2 years ago and the amount of weight I dropped just by avoiding added sugars is insane!
can i ask how you avoid it in a lot of breakfasts and things like that? or when you do eat out, what do you get? I'm pretty good at 80/20...(80% healthy diet). but i still indulge in some things because i just dont know how to cut it out completely.
@@amandaleidy Breakfasts with little added sugar: scrambled eggs w/ spinach or kale, overnight oats, toast w/ pb, bagels w/ cream cheese and cucumber
@@amandaleidy hey! I feel u with the indulgences! I'm no nutritionist but postponing eating something you want in a moderate way is worse than eating it sometimes... so maybe check with a nutritionist how you can make indulgent things healthier (bc it is possible!) and be mindful that when you're eating it, it's moderately! hope it helps with the indulgences, cause I'm speaking only on my behalf, hoping it works out for u too, and if it doesn't hope u find a way! also, about the breakfasts, i usually avoid pre-made things, i eat fruit, or make my own bread, drink coffee and make my own cashew or almond spread... I just make everything from scratch, but i am aware that's a common thing in my country cause usually you don't find many pre-made stuff here... but i hope it helps!
@@bestnarryever yes! i thankfully have gotten a pretty manageable handle on it i think. I eat things when i want them so that i dont binge, and dont eat them all the time. what gets me are things with hidden sugar like sauces, trail mix, "health bars" that arent really healthy. that sort of thing. Especially sauces bc i love sauce! haha
Why don't you make it a challenge for you and your fans? like the 100 days of sweat... --- days of healthy eating-and have a website with recipes and such, and we post how it's going etc... could be fun! anyone?
couldn´t agree more. that sounds like so much fun a so beneficial
Sounds like a perfect recipe for some people to potentially develop an eating disorder. There is a lot of mental health going into nutrition.
@Rayowag teaching people how to cut out crap and eat healthy food instead will now give people an eating disorder? Oh please
Yes!! I'd totally join
omg i’d love that
The problem with many of us chronically disabled folks is that, we know for a fact that junk food is bad but for some of us its a matter of survival not choice. It's either no eating or crap eating, and the nutritionist told us '' Eating anything is better than having nothing in the stomach ''
This message if for every people who have Eating disorders, are disabled or chronically ill person who know, You are seen and You are doing amazing 🙏🏼😊
Ever since I started making an effort on eating healthier and eliminating alcohol I’ve indeed noticed some changes. Dealing with my mental health has become less hard. Ammar will benefit from this 7 day experience way more than he knows yet. Thomas looked like he was going through a softer version of the movie Fear and Loathing In LV.
My partner and I have just moved into our own place in a different city to where we were raised and I’ve been struggling with healthy eating and having the motivation to cook every night. You guys doing this and showing everyone first hand how your diet can affect your body and your mental health is inspiring. You make me want to try harder and push myself out of my comfort zone to strive for a better balanced life. Thank you for that extra bit of motivation.

Weekly meal planning is your friend. Prep and refrigerate on weekends or whenever you've free time. Create a schedule for your weekly meals so you don't have to think about what to cook at the end of a day and give in to ordering from outside
Whoever edited the Thomas montage deserves a raise hahaha
I love how Ammar said he is someone who is "challenged by depression" instead of someone who "suffers from depression." I've never heard it phrased that way, and as someone who is also challenged by depression, I really appreciate this new perspective on it. Thank you, Ammar!!

@@CarsoroniAndCheese it’s kinda disingenuous though. Realistically switching to that extreme of a diet that fast would yield some dangerous consequences. I’m not minimizing the impact of fast food though, it can be terrible for you

I’ve noticed a lot of people tend to not eat as healthy because they think it requires knowledge and skill to cook healthy meals. It’s honestly so easy once you learn basic healthy meals and the more you cook it, the better it will get because you get creative and add random healthy things to the already healthy meal. I recommend trying a simple rice and three vegetables as a basic dish and then adding small things that you like that are healthy.
