What a series, what a journey! I know you feel disappointed that you didn’t have a specific house to visit in Limerick but think of it this way, you actually connected with the “path” of further generations back. The Fitzgeralds were so powerful and influential they would have travelled, lead and fought on all the streets you explored. That’s more priceless than a single building would have been.

Welcome to Limerick! The term "Stab City" was coined by the Dublin media in the early 00's. Limerick is no longer like this but a beautiful little city. Enjoy your stay here!
That's a fact but as you've seen he didn't feel that Limerick was a little city but instead he felt it was nicer than Dublin and it was a big city to him and he's the man he should know.
Limerick was called Stab city in the 1980s owing to a number of feuds and violent incidents. There was one more period of violence at the turn of the millennium but the violence in Limerick is nearly always contained amongst those involved, it's not dangerous for people not directly involved.
I only just discovered this guy And I must say his videos are truly epic I have only watched this last 4 videos of his tracing his heritage across the 4 countries of Spain , Netherlands, Scotland and Ireland When I started to watch I was not expecting them to be truly epic in their scales I have never spend 12 hour watching videos from a new content provider to me but Antony makes us feel like he is with us His honesty is real there is nothing fake here His love of the perfect kebab He says it how he sees it and his attention to detail of brining us along for the journey every step of the way is why people wanting to follow up video after video There is are some people who typical 30 min videos and then there is Antony lee’s who makes epic lord of the ring style 3 hour adventure Well done Spanian I can’t wait to see your next upload From Malcolm in Ireland 🇮🇪

This series was so interesting. It's inspired me to look into the history of my family because I didn't even know where my grandparents are from. Keep it up anyos!
It is the centre of the city too, he's literally just off the city's main street. I live in Dublin but we have to acknowledge that the north inner city is a bit grimier than most capital city centres
Hey Brotha Spanian you gotta come check out Liverpool, around 75% of people from Liverpool/Scouser’s have Irish ancestery, Liverpool is a place the unquie unto its self Bro, your always welcome to my city & Ill show ya the real spots where Scouser dwell not just the “the toursit spots” 👊🏼
@sidney_poitier1 No that's not obvious. That's not even evident in the comment I read. He mentioned close Irish ties, which I would expect from a scouser, but he only mentioned the ancestor from Limerick. That's likely because the video focused on Limerick. There's no reason not to think he might have other sides of the family with more recent connections to other parts of Ireland.
Im disappointed with his Dublin trip , he’s literally landed on Talbot street , The worst street in the city , worst hotel Full of piss & junkies He never seen any part of south Dublin

Still don’t believe her. It was a civil case not a criminal case. You can’t trust a woman that leaves her husband and kids at home to go party with a famous man in secret. All the while cctv showing her being all over him smiling after the “Assault”. There’s a reason it was a civil case, easy payday imo.

The highrise at -2:12:31 (Divis flats) was an IRA stronghold during The Troubles but has since been knocked down and rebuilt. There's a huge amount of history in those flats alone but you were right to say about the trauma of that area. Love the video as always and glad you got to see my city.
Limerick is a beautiful city, the media gave it a bad name due to a few families feuding with eachother, Limerick people are the nicest, funniest people youll meet, salt of the earth, absolutely delighted to hear you enjoyed Limerick, dont listen to this 'stab city' bullshit, its a city with no more problems than any other average city, famous for its music, sport & plenty more, your welcome back anyday lad!
you must have lived or you are living in completely different Limerick , this city / larger village actually / is one of the worst , ugliest places in Europe . 50% of population are simpletons or scumbags , young gangsters and bandidst , incompetent drivers, ignorant people and people living on their own terms and rules . Horrible ,terrible management of the city by the city council, lack of police badly needed due to fast rising crime ,that scares off the rest of good population to stay here for good , many Irish people decide to leave this medieval village already . Not many positives Limerick has to offer , sad fact
Honestly lad catching up to the series but genuinely never expect this kinda side from u the whole journey of u retracing the steps is next level obviously ur getting it all figured out and im glad to see keep on lad
Never really had a means to connect to my Irish heritage, sounds strange but this video helped to fill a hole in my family lineage that I’ve lost my connection to. Big ups, meant a lot
What in the fuck is wrong with our governments? They really think it's a good idea to replace the locals witha bunch of immigrants who can't speak english and came here to steal the taxpayer money? I really don't get it. Should all white people just move to the countries these people are fleeing to and ask their government for money and housing?
@@LaughingMan44 I don't agree Dublin has some stunning areas in the city centre and its got some superb buildings that could match Paris or London like the bank of Ireland building.
Spanian, I can feel and understand what you are saying. You only need to look at our wife's connections and how they keep and maintain their culture. I am Maori and we connect to your wife's whanau in some way because of the great migration where our waka sailed the great oceans and each waka ended up at different lands well before it was colonized before the pakeha/palangi came ashore. I would love to invite you to our marae just so you can see how our culture maintains their roots. We can be anywhere in the world but we can quite honestly say that we have a place call home. Your wife would probably have the same concept from her village. I just want to say that "it takes a village to raise a child" and that's how we Maori do it in New Zealand. I'm 67yrs old and I love watching out for your videos. You so remind me of my nephew Manaia. Love to meet you one day, hopefully on my marae. (Turangawaewae)
Stop the lights how stunning is Limerick city man 😮 never know it was this beautiful or that big mad beautiful gerogain city 🎉 can't wait 2 go and see this city now what a vibe what a city my brother 💯
You’re absolutely right about Limerick - beautiful city with history, culture, sportsmen and women - a people connected. Don’t know how much more time do us Irish have left as a welcoming and caring people when our own government are knowingly pitting us against each other and completely changing the culture we are so famous for! We have to change the referendum that sanctioned a new pact on migration and asylum allowing undocumented young men into Dublin City who have increased crime by 25%. Irish people emigrated for generations but we never expected hands ours - we slept on friends sofas and worked, contributing financially. We didn’t expect handouts. I have empathy for true asylum seekers but these men dispose of their ID on the way here, flushing them down toilets etc - and it’s not their fault - it’s 100% our governments fault and we’re all going to pay the price if we don’t collectively do something! Historically we’ve been asked to vote on issues that seriously affect us - what they’re doing is destroying our country - and they’re supposed to be FOR the people!! Phew.. sorry for the rant - great video!☘️☠️👽
Congratulations, what a journey. I love your passion and I would rather watch your vlogs, they are much better than documentaries that only show one the popular sites. So what next, it’s difficult to imagine that you could get any more entertaining and yet you will I’m sure of that. A brilliant job, thank you so much.
Gotta be the 9ne of the best walk vlogs ive seen, havnt put my phone down since this morning, amd learning more about my country then already knew to😂😂
dude you stayed on Talbot street, which is the absolute worst street in Dublin, not a week goes by without Talbot St being in the news for some robbery or stabbing or some other shenanigans, its very central too so that's why it was so expensive, jump in a taxi and travel 5 or 10 minutes in any direction and you'll be in a nicer area with possibly better cheaper accommodation too
I respect you for speaking your mind on Dublin and not mincing your words. It is not a good representation of Ireland as the capital and as someone who lived there for nearly 20 years I would agree with you. The city centre and in particular the areas you walked are rough and on the point of dereliction in parts. It’s not good enough for a country that is placed so high on many indexes of most desirable places to live.
I was born in 82, and fondly remember going to Dublin for the day on the train, from Carlow. It was bustling with markets and locals. It was dirty, but was pouring with character. So I can just imagine how magical Dublin was, as its described in "The rare auld times"
Heroin sent Dublin down the wrong path. Mass unchecked immigration is more than the Rare Ould Times can handle. The incomers have zero regard for Irish culture and are simply drawn by easy government money. I’m also from provincial Ireland with fond childhood memories of visiting Dublin in the 80s.

The reason you see a lot of Scottish flags is from the Ulster province under britain it was colonised by scottish migrants to replace the mainly Roman Catholic population there as the fields in ireland were very valuable to feeding their other colonial ventures. Same as what happened in Australia, USA, New Zealand, South Africa, Gibraltar etc etc
@@Pete_YT The North East of Ireland was part of the DalRiata Kingdom, long before the English arrived. Before there were roads, there were boats and the Scotland was more accessible to the Antrim Coast than Dublin, for example. A Gaelic speaking heritage exists there for many many centuries. Look at the history (and massacres) of Rathlin Island, for a microcosmic look at the overall history of the area. Fun fact, Ulster was "planted" with English speaking settlers because it was always the most opposed to English rule, the most difficult to manage for the English, and the most determined to preserve a Gaelic heritage. To me, even though it is officially part of the UK, the Antrim coast is still more "Irish" than Dublin ever was. The Scotti people migrated from what is now Ireland, hence giving Scotland the name it has today. The links between the North of Ireland and Scotland have always been there and the people are often very similar. I am one of them and consider myself totally Irish, but my culture is different to someone in Cork for example. I lived and worked in Cork for a few years and was often asked, by people who had known me for a while, what part of Scotland I was from. That was a bit irritating to be honest.
You forgot to mention that it was Scottish protestants that were sent there to colonise and to stop the ulster province because that was the province of Ireland that was most resistant against British rule
Spanian I am struggling to understand why you didn’t enlist a professional genealogist to find out your family’s address etc in Limerick. Both the Catholic and Protestant churches have extensive records.
Bro I irish we get lot fr americans have soul family tree hunting I know grand holiday fr them when they ask food fr local roll shop dam so odd no offence to all
I am struggling to understand why you care so much to say " Struggling" If you are struggling there's a phone number in Australia called Beyond Blue. But if you're Koori you CANNOT ring it! You have to ring 13 YARN 😂😂😂
I just watched all 4 parts fascinating video, your entire background step by step, we should all do the walk, reality is that we are all mixed, thank you for sharing, you are unique man, cheers 🍻 from New York US
It's so refreshing to see someone who has been effected by the history of the country see it as he begins to try and understand it I didn't see this in history class never will it's mad
1:25:00 The reason why Northern Ireland is part of the UK is because during the 16th century, the Protestant King James, who was the king of England and Scotland at the time, sent Protestant Lowland Scots and northern English to Ulster since it was the province most resistant to Protestant British rule.
The Republic is ours, our relativess fought like trained militia to keep the Republic. Sorry lad but it bugs the S**t outa me when lads don't know what they're talking about
Spanian's descriptive words about Belfast (trauma, sad, etc) aren't too far off and it's easy to see what he's getting at. Belfast carries the weight of history, where echoes of conflict linger in its murals and architecture, yet these elements coexist with a deep sense of renewal and hope. The remnants of that era can evoke feelings of heaviness or unease which is what he was probs referring to. The streets just have this industrial texture and grittiness to them. Idk if this comment is cringe and who gives a fuck what some random youtube commenter thinks lol
It was a good series! Well done on discovering where you come from. During the series, I also enjoyed snippets of 1. Kebabs tried in different countries 2. More hood content 3. How often you are recognised - testament of you and your teams hard work. Great combination relevant to your vibe. Enjoy it and have a great life 😊
Wow!! Loved the whole series Anios! Thanks for sharing. You might as well do a historic story telling series of Australia now! Many of the original Irish people to land in Australia were brought over as convicts (of the English). Explains some of the "larrikin" mannerisms of Aussies today!
The part where he started to tear up while reading his Irish family history was beautiful, something about having Irish blood in a person makes them feel things so much more intensely than most, especially when it comes to family and ancestry, doesn’t matter how far removed you are, it’s something I’ve always been proud of being part of an Irish family, my Nan wanted to know everything about her father’s homeland and she passed those stories to me, the songs, the humour, all of it.
I think it was also the realisation that he’s a Fitzgerald, a very important family in Irish history, they’re steeped in Irish history from the Normans. There are many Fitzgerald families in Limerick and other counties.
You're all over Irish media for saying Dublin is shit. Bro I'm from Dublin and you're 100% correct, Dublin is a shithole! Unfortunately nothing is done to improve the city. Love the videos bro!
Think it western Europe in general as the UK has gone to shit. All we ever hear about Ireland in the uk is how it's booming due to the multinationals there but I guess that can be a net negative for the average Joe with housing.

Limerick was called Stab city in the 1980s owing to a number of feuds and violent incidents. There was one more period of violence at the turn of the millennium but the violence in Limerick is nearly always contained amongst those involved, it's not dangerous for people not directly involved.

It was such an amazing watch, seeing you go from Syndey all the way across the world back to your roots and finding more bout your background.
Had the same feeling when my partner and were in Italy, man I could just see how much she looked like the locals was hectic, discovered so much.
If anyone is lucky enough to do this for themselves, highly recommend such an unreal feeling.

Thank you so much Spanian from one Limerick person to another! You’ve done more in this one amazing video of our beautiful and ancient Limerick city and hopefully your subscribers, fans and regular tourists who may now consider including Limerick city as a holiday destination when they come to Ireland. This series was so interesting. It's inspired me to look into the history of my family because I didn't even know where my grandparents are from. Keep it up anyos!
Spanian, as a Dubliner I can confirm you've just given the viewers an unofficial "absolute most grim parts of Dublin" tour 🤣
I think what he really means that Dublin is not original as as once was he said it was like Paris 😂

Yeah the fact the bus or the train leaves you in the worst part doesn’t help 😅😂
Can we get him back bring him southside haha
It is the centre of the city too, he's literally just off the city's main street. I live in Dublin but we have to acknowledge that the north inner city is a bit grimier than most capital city centres
South African blown in here. I'm currently living Limerick and it's a awesome city never mind the shade people throw about its past. 🤙

Im a Scouser with deep ties to Ireland and my Great Grand Father was from Limerick, Much Respect Spanian!! 👊🏼

@@markjacob2386no Spanian don’t go to Liverpool, unless you want to be shot robbed or in a fight 😂
@sidney_poitier1 He said he had 1 ancestor from Limerick. He didn't say that was his only Irish relation

It was called that for a reason tbf. It's miles better now thankfully
you must have lived or you are living in completely different Limerick , this city / larger village actually / is one of the worst , ugliest places in Europe .

Yeah but as a Cork man I felt the beautiful Limerick city and it's stunning king John's castle done us Irish proud in his vlog.
What in the fuck is wrong with our governments? They really think it's a good idea to replace the locals witha bunch of immigrants who can't speak english and came here to steal the taxpayer money?
I really don't get it. Should all white people just move to the countries these people are fleeing to and ask their government for money and housing?

Great and interesting perspective. Genuine appreciation for the country and an obvious affinity for us. Keep doing what you're doing

dude you stayed on Talbot street, which is the absolute worst street in Dublin, not a week goes by without Talbot St being in the news for some robbery or stabbing or some other shenanigans, its very central too so that's why it was so expensive, jump in a taxi and travel 5 or 10 minutes in any direction and you'll be in a nicer area with possibly better cheaper accommodation too

Yes I agree with you on Dublin but as a Cork man I felt Limerick did Ireland proud and he really seemed to have a great time at King John's castle.
Even the "nice" parts are awful: smelly, dirty, ugly

That’s interesting.
Yeah everyone thinks it’s the English who took Northern Ireland but it was the Scottish.
@@Pete_YT well, they were under one crown at that point they both were involved

You need to go back at Belfast and go up the Falls Road too. See both sides.
Sorry lad but it bugs the S**t outa me when lads don't know what they're talking about
Bro thought he cooked 1916 look that up buddy
Spanian's descriptive words about Belfast (trauma, sad, etc) aren't too far off and it's easy to see what he's getting at. Belfast carries the weight of history, where echoes of conflict linger in its murals and architecture, yet these elements coexist with a deep sense of renewal and hope. The remnants of that era can evoke feelings of heaviness or unease which is what he was probs referring to. The streets just have this industrial texture and grittiness to them. Idk if this comment is cringe and who gives a fuck what some random youtube commenter thinks lol

We a special people
I think it was also the realisation that he’s a Fitzgerald, a very important family in Irish history, they’re steeped in Irish history from the Normans. There are many Fitzgerald families in Limerick and other counties.
