Everyday, everytime, i have been telling people the raise of 500million from 100million hurdle is too high and almost arbitrary to obtain. Finally someone with the expertise expressed the same sentiments.
His comparison with the criteria with the PM is also spot on. I feel that these obstacles in placed are political induced in the first place.

PM Lee should stand up to control the current situation before it turn worst one day, and tell all Singaporean, since there are people tends to mix up and mess up the President role and politician role, every Singaporean should honour their vote for a President who best suitable with fullest heart to our Home for the role! As he realised that is an misused of it, consider to revert it back to appointed President. At the end of the day, majority Singaporean will want a stability, peace, harmony and lawful country, a President that really represent Singapore. People are taking chance to dividle and mess up the country, PM will have to stricten and fix it, like what LKY said, [ I am not here to do a job, this is my home, I love my home with my fullest heart, no one can break it down! ]

    The PM is PRIME Minister
    Don’t waste money
We also don’t need so many loud voices
The PM Wong is able to stand on his own two feet
    Kevin Tan makes good sense
It was LHL who put all the hurdles to prevent others from vying for
At that time it was Halimah he had in mind
    Barriers were placed so high

The key point is to prevent any Rogue Government Or any Government turned Rogue, from raiding all the reserves and these may not be necessarily from the Opposition minority Parties,
LTK said "Real risk to Singapore's reserve is a PAP Govt with an establishment President".

Over 50 years. If PAP wanted to raid the reserves, they would have done so long ago, many times over. They were appointing Presidents for ages, no one complained. The PAP government, on their own initiative, introduced elected Presidency. They didn't have to do it, but they did. Now tell me who is the real risk.

I appreciate Mr Tan for elucidating the president's role comprehensively. The chronological aspect becomes pivotal when we consider the comparison between the appointed Presidents, Mr. Yusof Ishak and Dr Benjamin Sheares. That era's economic, social, and political landscape diverges significantly from the present. Were Prime Minister Lee to emulate his predecessor's approach in appointing a candidate, it could lead to upheaval within Singapore's populace. Interestingly, even a walkover victory faces criticism today for being perceived as falling short of democratic ideals. Nevertheless, you've presented an intriguing perspective.

I guess that the president’s salary is $2million per year? X6 years. Not to mention all the expenditures billed to the state: chefs, chauffeurs, body guards, aides, press officers, council of presidential advisers, upkeep of the Istana, etc. The tax money can be better spent, to build new infrastructure or help the needy, rather than to spent on a position that is limited in power, and can be distributed to the other ministries. If govt policies are not good, the ground is unhappy, which president of the past has helped make the people happier, more unified? It’s just an illusion. As for the second key, we hv seen it is actually a duplicate key held by an obedient servant.

We cannot afford to pray to the chosen one who forged his way to the top and succeeded given the situation back then -- like a god. All and any ideas from the successful chosen one are followed and made mostly correct, regardless of limitations, and that is akin to praying and hoping. The effort is in revising the criteria again and again and to review the benefits and limitations, vividly, so that the populace can see or feel the authenticity in the efforts put in, gain trust and then make their educated choices -- more good for more people, and mostly correct by most people involved in learning and making decisions collectively. Voting blindly by emotions is being lazy and not concerned as a member of a large community called a nation.

So , the word " eminence " seems a high concern as it can bring about a great impact on a country's standing when the country being one of the small states faces bigger countries there . i only know that Sir Lee Kuan Yew had an unique look when he was about 30s to 40s , he was pock-faced yet he made a lot of friends from all over the world . Today we have men ministers who are about 1.65m tall or slightly taller . The kind of height is similar to the Imperial Japanese soldiers whose height had shocked the West military officials who were about 1.75m tall and above .
Eminence hmm a strong word . i only know that Chinese pandas have eminence .

PAP changes constitution to “influence” the qualification of presidential candidates
Mr Tay is, of course, technically correct to say that PEC does not “select” candidates but to “determine” if a candidate is qualified to run for President by “applying the criteria set out in the Constitution”.
However, Mr Tay forgot to mention that it was the PAP, through its dominance in Parliament, that changed the selection criteria in the Constitution so as to filter out potential rival candidates whom it did not want to become President.

IMO, if I am not mistaken, the founding father, LKY felt that it was necessary that the president must have the people's mandate to exercise the "custodian duties" in following crucial situation ....
    a) when an irresponsible/corrupted/racist political party (was elected via a freak election) to govern the country
    b) when no single political party has obtained the necessary majority to form the government and needs to "negotiate" for awhile with other elected parties to form a coalition government.
However, at the moment, it seems that an elected president seems "superfluous" because the current ruling party has the majority to form the government and so far, it has governed the country effectively and responsibly (with its zero-tolerance to corruption policy).

The Pertinent Question is : Was he involved with the Constitution Amendments for EP or NOT? If not, may I suggest to you to listen to WalterW to tell you the Original of the Original intent and purpose of the EP.
The Original Intent and Purpose of the Amendment was to have a President representing every Singaporeans and not just one Political Party and he should be Politically Neutral, I wasn't the only one, there are other people making the same point [Ref: Walter video].
If such is so, then Singaporeans should see to it that they give NKS their full blessings since he is the only truly Non-Partisan Candidate in the race.

The historical context of Mr Ong’s presidency is crucial as we consider Tharman’s potential candidacy.
Since Mr Ong’s tenure, PAP has amended the constitution in 1996 to necessitate presidential consultation with the Council of Presidential Advisers (CPA) on matters concerning past reserves and key public appointments. If the president’s decision diverges from the CPA’s advice, Parliament can override it with a two-thirds majority vote.
