This is a message for myself! We are in the process of building up our pantry, but it’s a bit bare, so time to focus! Let’s remember to do it little by little! We will get there! Are you prepping anything?
yes, lots of beans and rice, some in jars and vacuum sealed and some in the freezer. What we need to get is a generator to at least run the frigs and freezer.
I’m sure you’ll do your research, but if it’s possible, and you’re on a well, get a generator with enough capacity to run your well pump. Smart to invest in a generator so your food doesn’t go to waste! That would be so sad.
I had quite a few empty half gallon canning jars, so a while ago I canned water, and we did use some of this during our recent disaster. I need to restock my supply
We do too, and I’m sure you learned just how handy “canned water” can be, although it sounds funny! Our pantry is dwindling, and so this is a message to me! 🥫🫙
We are so alike. I listened just to hear your calm, friendly voice while I cross stitched this evening. Earlier this year I canned water into about a dozen of my empty quarts. That's better than having empty jars on the shelft. If the grid and solar become unavailable all we can do for water is filter from our not-always-running creek or 2 large ponds our neighbors have behind us.
We have only a well, and have done catchment, but right now it’s not set up (tree fell on it). I’ve heard of canning empty jars of water. Pretty smart, but how long do you can them for? I assume water bath can for like a short time? Saw your new dogs-that just reminded me so much of my walks with our cats. Never walk alone!
@@RidgeHavenHomestead I think the internet told me 10 or 15 minutes, I don't remember. I have to look up canning stuff every time I do it. I use a steamer canner anytime I can get away with it. Uses so much less water so the whole process is faster.
