I've been a fan since 99. This song is about Joey. I will love Slipknot till the day I die, but Joey was my favorite member, so this is far from my favorite Knot song. That said, you can't deny how hard this song is.
Criminally underrated album. I know it gets a good amount of praise as it is, but it deserves more for the quality of every song, from the 1st to the 14th, on this great album.
This band is showing respect to a family member who has passed, the songs on the album all make sense, it is nothing but true love for a lost family member, RIP Paul Grey, you were family to alot of people.

The guilt of "If I had done more to help, would he still be here?". The whole "I hope you live to see the day when your world goes up in flames. And as you die you see my face. Your the only one to blame" is what Corey's guilt is portraying what Paul would be saying to him. And since they all have a different number, they're down 1 number when Paul died. Hence -1. So stop saying its a satanic song. That's just the metaphorical part to portray a very relatable human emotion. A very emotionally heavy song. Love it!

Iowa is most definitely one of the best albums out there. There are only 2 songs that don't speak to me, where as other albums only around half the songs make me say "oh, I'll choose to listen to this". I'm excited for another album maybe LIKE Iowa

Why are so many people complaining about this band not getting the Grammy? Grammys rarely ever go to the most deserving artist; they usually go to the ones that generate the most revenue. Apparently, Slipknot didn't. I'm not stating any opinions here, but stop complaining when we all know it's not about "the best."
That's what pissed a lot of people off. Rather than being a true representation of the genre's best artists, the Grammys have become a giant popularity contest. I know the other nominees were a hundred times more metal than Tenacious D, but I still can't get over how blind one of the most recognized music academies have become.

I'm not even Slipknot's biggest fan, but I thought this song deserved it (especially a hell of a lot more than Tenacious D, not that Tenacious D is a bad band, but winning for best METAL performance???). Slipknot was never going to get it because their song didn't generate as much revenue or popularity as Tenacious D. In the end, that's all that matters. It goes to show why NO GOOD SONGS were nominated for "Song of the Year" or "Record of the Year." Just basic pop songs that earned a lot of money and got blasted over and over on Top 40 radio. It's the same reason Paramore won for "Best Rock Song" even though they're actually power pop (at the very heaviest), not even close to Rock. I mean, let's look at another example. Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" was nominated for "Record of the Year," but it was just the same three notes over and over again with clichéd lyrics that she didn't even write herself. Why not anything by Slipknot Kendrick Lamar, Tom Petty, even Lady Gaga this year doing those awesome standards (with Tony Bennett), heck, ANYONE but Iggy? Because Iggy made a ton of revenue, so she was nominated. She didn't win, but the song that won ("Stay with Me" by Sam Smith) was only a little better. Still clichéd and unoriginal pop. I have nothing against pop when it's done well, but NONE of the songs nominated in ANY pop categories this year were any good. I see what you're saying, though. I see why people are frustrated, but people should never trust the Grammys to reward the best artist for the best work. :(

It's good. i like the sounds. I don't know why they don't like it. I wish some of the screaming at parts were deeper though. I think this is good nu metal which i think they didn't sell out on. I can't think of many good nu metal sounding bands now days. Hopefully the whole album is at least this good.

To be honest, as much as i love Slipknot, Tenacious D is a rockband (which i like too) that is more accessible to a wider audience, while Slipknot is a specific type of metal based on aggression and oppressed feelings. Props to Tenacious D, they have some pretty cool music. I'd take GB and KG over any radio bullshit noise nowadays.
Average Guitar Player I wouldn't say Tenacious D has a wider audience. They don't have a strong following. They're a joke band. Slipknot has serious music with radioplay and a massive following. Also, Tenacious D isn't metal. They play acoustic guitars for gods sake! I like both bands, but Slipknot deserved that Grammy.

This is awesome. The song is clearly about video games. There's references to Tetris, Street Fighter, Goat Simulator, and Cooking Mama. I even noticed a few Mario and Sonic references, too. It's good to see that Corey is getting back to his lighter more pop sounding music. I was feeling really down this morning, but--ah, jinkies! Boy, did they just brighten up my day. I'm gonna share this song with my pals!
People who used to say that the gray chapter is not real Slipknot clearly couldn't hear the chord progressions and how tribal the drums sound. To me this is still the band's best album
Vol. 3 isn't the worst or best. He has said in interviews he tried a different voice because Iowa almost ruined his voice lol. I'd say this song is a good sign for the album. Most aggressive sound I've heard from them since Iowa and that's what most of us have wanted.

The Negative One is not a single according to Corey Taylor. The first single for the new album is called "The Devil and I" and they are planning on releasing a music video for it (featuring the band members) some time later this month. The Negative One and its promotional video was a gift to the fans and only a taste of whats to come. He also said they are trying to release the album along side Knotfest in October. So there you have it. Video was pretty cool, imo, But the song itself is fucking awesome!!!

Dude, I agree. Realistically, in comparison to better drummers, Joey only had speed (crack-feet in particular) and maybe a dash of Joey. Based on this song only, who ever did the drums isn't a metal-structured drummer at his core. I'm not a drummer but I'm no stranger to bands, sound, and world-class musicianship. This guy is solid, and he knows how to move and keep the rest of the band driving. OR, it's just clever editing. But one can hope....

I know what these two things can symbolize, which I can look more into them and apply them to what the meaning of the song could be. Everyone perceives things differently, obviously, so what I believe to be the meaning of the song is, it might be completely different than what someone else thinks the meaning of the song can be.

Why are so many people complaining about this band not getting the Grammy? Grammys rarely ever go to the most deserving artist; they usually go to the ones that generate the most revenue. Apparently, Slipknot didn't. I'm not stating any opinions here, but stop complaining when we all know it's not about "the best."
That's what pissed a lot of people off. Rather than being a true representation of the genre's best artists, the Grammys have become a giant popularity contest. I know the other nominees were a hundred times more metal than Tenacious D, but I still can't get over how blind one of the most recognized music academies have become.
***** That's why people shouldn't even put ANY trust in the Grammys. Watch something that isn't driven by the money and paid out in advance by record companies and advertisers.
I can see why people are pissed off about Slipknot not getting it, but I don't understand it. I'm not even Slipknot's biggest fan, but I thought this song deserved it (especially a hell of a lot more than Tenacious D, not that Tenacious D is a bad band, but winning for best METAL performance???). Slipknot was never going to get it because their song didn't generate as much revenue or popularity as Tenacious D. In the end, that's all that matters. It goes to show why NO GOOD SONGS were nominated for "Song of the Year" or "Record of the Year." Just basic pop songs that earned a lot of money and got blasted over and over on Top 40 radio. It's the same reason Paramore won for "Best Rock Song" even though they're actually power pop (at the very heaviest), not even close to Rock.
I mean, let's look at another example. Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" was nominated for "Record of the Year," but it was just the same three notes over and over again with clichéd lyrics that she didn't even write herself. Why not anything by Slipknot Kendrick Lamar, Tom Petty, even Lady Gaga this year doing those awesome standards (with Tony Bennett), heck, ANYONE but Iggy? Because Iggy made a ton of revenue, so she was nominated. She didn't win, but the song that won ("Stay with Me" by Sam Smith) was only a little better. Still clichéd and unoriginal pop. I have nothing against pop when it's done well, but NONE of the songs nominated in ANY pop categories this year were any good.
I see what you're saying, though. I see why people are frustrated, but people should never trust the Grammys to reward the best artist for the best work. :(

To be honest, as much as i love Slipknot, Tenacious D is a rockband (which i like too) that is more accessible to a wider audience, while Slipknot is a specific type of metal based on aggression and oppressed feelings. Props to Tenacious D, they have some pretty cool music. I'd take GB and KG over any radio bullshit noise nowadays.

The Negative One is not a single according to Corey Taylor. The first single for the new album is called "The Devil and I" and they are planning on releasing a music video for it (featuring the band members) some time later this month. The Negative One and its promotional video was a gift to the fans and only a taste of whats to come. He also said they are trying to release the album along side Knotfest in October. So there you have it. Video was pretty cool, imo, But the song itself is fucking awesome!!!

Dude, I agree. Realistically, in comparison to better drummers, Joey only had speed (crack-feet in particular) and maybe a dash of Joey. Based on this song only, who ever did the drums isn't a metal-structured drummer at his core. I'm not a drummer but I'm no stranger to bands, sound, and world-class musicianship. This guy is solid, and he knows how to move and keep the rest of the band driving.
OR, it's just clever editing. But one can hope....

Gary Nicholls haha well for an example "the morning star," which can symbolize Lucifer, while "The negative one," can symbolize Satan. I know what these two things can symbolize, which I can look more into them and apply them to what the meaning of the song could be. Everyone perceives things differently, obviously, so what I believe to be the meaning of the song is, it might be completely different than what someone else thinks the meaning of the song can be.
