With Jeff Minter coming back into the limelight again thanks to that fantastic Digital Eclipse collection and upcoming Heart of Neon documentary now, this vid was years ahead of the curve!
I had Grid Runner on the Vic 20 (or was it the c64?) and that was really well done. I sat behind him and his posse at a show in Manchester a lifetime ago during an Amiga 500 preview.
I love his amiga 500 games Llamatron: 2112 (I play this at least once or twice daily since over a year) and his other shareware Revenge of the mutant camels. I also like his twitter account (I personally don't have an account), especially his Morning Sheep Time where he uploads 10-20 min. videos where he's outside with his sheep, llama and donkeys.
poorly researched, you MISSED Tempest 2000 on the Atari Jaguar and Defender 2000 on the Atari Jaguar...really?....maybe you weren't born then? Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar got game of the show E3 10/10 score..and you didn't even mention it?
Jeff suffers from being far too over protective of his own work, having tantrums over the Zzap64 review of Mama Llama and The Official 360 Magazine review of Space Giraffe. He forgets he put the boot into the likes of: Xenon II by the Bitmap Bros Return To Genesis by Steve Bak Whirlygig by Mike Singleton He's a fantastic guy in person, met him at BIT LIVE years ago, but he trips himself up far too often
Yes I'm a Llamasoft fanboy but I think their games are great. That they can play-test their own creation, find and fix faults in their own work then release a game they're happy with means you know you're getting a decent game. And to be fair, Xenon 2 is a shit-show of a shmup hiding under a soundtrack, Return to Genesis scrolls nicely (like goldrunner) but once you get past that, it's essentially luck avoiding enemies . Whirlygig I've not played, so I'll not comment on that (but I did just watch a video of it and it looked.. confusing. I will give it a go though so thanks for giving me a recommendation). That said I agree with your initial comment - some guy made a demo-scene effects version of tempest 2000 and he didn't give it his blessing, fair do as although it looked nice it wasn't anywhere near as good to play. On the flipside someone else made a heartfelt conversion of the same game and he also didn't like it - he relented eventually, but only after being convinced that it was a decent homage. I get that though: if you pour your love into something to make it what you want you don't appreciate someone else trying to copy it; it's your creation. Plus he's been shafted (and not in a good way) by numerous companies ripping off his work but not doing it the justice it deserves, or paying him for it (as was the case for Tempest 2000/X3) tl;dr Llamasoft games are fun and Minter is, in my opinion, a game-making genius.
Gee Good Game, nice research. Failed to mention the Atari jaguar and Tempest 2000 and Defender 2000. Then again, Jaguar sucks so, maybe good call to leave it out.
This guy is my hero. Polybius on PSVR is soooooooo amazing.

Jeff Minter is the videogames scene most iconic and talented guy. Point. 2nd place to Eugene Jarvis.
Jeff Minter is one hell of a legend and i can proudly say that it is an honner to know him and play test his latest games XD
I met him at a show, must be 20ish years ago now.. he was decent enough to talk to.. he used to send out a magazine the odd time, have one somewhere.

Jeff? Can we have weed smoking Llamas back with the re-release please Mr Minter?
Thank you for posting the video!

When, oh when, will we be able to watch "Merak - the video" on youtube?
Iridis Alpha bent my young brain
Quite a strange guy, but some of his games are decent. He made some great efforts on the C64.
no tempest 2000 ? I do hate badly researched videos.. was she even born when hovver bovver was first released ? lol

I still loved this video, but yeah, what you said. Tempest 2000 and Defender 2000 on the Jaguar were 50 years ahead of anything else.
I want to marry the girl! shes hottttttttttttttttttttttttt
