  • One of the biggest NASCAR stories of 2023 will be who takes over the TV rights past the 2024 season. FOX and NBC currently hold NASCAR on their networks but rumors have come out for ESPN, CBS, and even Amazon streaming as being in the running. Today we look at all of these. Who will broadcast NASCAR past 2024?

The issue with it is ESPN is losing day show fans in the afternoon and morning half after GET UP. First take is Stephen a Smith’s show but I believe with the support that they have had towards bubba and the young drivers I think is genuine. The thing is we want that prime broadcasting and ESPN wants to be the world wide leader in sport and rn it’s in shambles. ESPN+ and their streaming service I think saved them. I don’t care what SAS says about nascar cause it’s a sport, and he is an over reactor for clicks. It’s been proven, just look at First Takes videos, it’s ALL about him, and only him. He probably got pissed that Kellerman got more views on him last year and so that’s why they gave him his own show.

So overall I think it would help nascar and I wouldn’t watch really if they did talk about nascar with First Take unless it’s positive and escapee the redneck part about it and just car on two aspects. The racing and the drama of the characters involve.

I am very surprised that Warner Bros Discovery (TBS, TNT, HBO Max & MotorTrend) wasn't mentioned in this video because they would be a great partner for NASCAR especially in the 2nd half of the season. The main reason why is currently from mid June (when the NBA & NHL playoffs end)-early October (when the MLB postseason begins) they have no live sports or programming in general on weekends especially since they started airing their weekly MLB game on Tuesday nights. The only things that are on TBS & TNT on those days are old movies, American Dad reruns from 2007 & 20 year old Law & Order reruns. NASCAR would fill that void big time & inject some excitement/drama into both networks. Races could also be streamed on HBO Max as a way of attracting younger fans. Meanwhile Motor Trend (which is also owned by Warner Bros Discovery) could also be used to air the Truck Series & Xfinity Series especially when the MLB Playoffs start & TNT would be used as a spillover network for any playoff games that are delayed as a result of the game on TBS going into extra innings. There is a rich history between NASCAR & TBS/TNT because they covered the sport from 1982-2014 & many fans would want them back. Lastly & most importantly, Warner Bros Discovery does not have any NFL or College Football to get in the way of their NASCAR coverage & can dedicate the needed time & resources into covering the sport.

    • @chrisguardiano6143
      @chrisguardiano6143 Год назад +1

@@billygsell3625 what will likely happen in that situation is that AEW Rampage would be moved to TBS since TBS has nothing on at that time. To prevent this issue in the first place, what AEW would likely do is let their fans know during Dynamite on that Wednesday (and through social media) that Rampage for that week will be on TBS so that the AEW fan isn't caught off guard by the sudden switch in network. This also makes sure that NASCAR fans aren't trying to find TBS to watch the remainder of the race plus it allows TNT to stay with the race no matter how long it takes.

This is what I think. Fox would pay money to keep nascar and it could be a good amount for the drivers to get, could get nascar happy. The next one is NBC for the midway point into the season leads up to the playoffs. Then ESPN can put Nascars Cup series for their final 10 races on ABC and have it go up with the NFL. I think these three are the best options out there. It’s gonna be hard to keep to trade out Daytona 500 from FOXs grasps and put it into NBC. I mean they are gonna be talking lots of money. So the potential money and tv deals will be very important. The next Gen looks like it be very competitive and I think fans see that. And nascar viewership has gone up. I think if we have a 3 way tv deal split and keep it simple then I think it would work out well for Nascar, fans, drivers, and the broadcasters.

    Fox: Clash -- All-Star Race
    NBC: Coke 600 -- Indianapolis
ESPN: Week after Indy -- Phoenix
All races have a live streaming option/replay on Peacock, & ESPN+, Fox does this with either Tubi, or RUclips Premium.
In this scenario, all races are on network, cable, & streaming, NASCAR can have their product on multiple platforms, and each provider can be happy with their schedules. Fox still has NASCAR in the Spring, NBC has them in the Summer and not have to worry about SNF, opening the door for more night races, and ESPN can do back-to-back broadcasts of F1 & NASCAR on Sundays to complete against the NFL

First, although the NBA TV deal ends in June, 2025, they will get a new deal before NASCAR, thus limiting the power of NASCAR on any deal they want.
Second, with Fox being part of the B1G Conference's new media rights deal, as well as Fox being majority of the B1G network and the conference expanding in Los Angeles, Fox will want to showcase the network as much as possible.

As well as some stores used to sell NASCAR merch when I was a kid so they should partner with a clothing brand or store because the young crowd would definitely buy the T-shirt. as well as possibly tune in to the broadcast or get engaged and watch highlights and look at pictures on social media.

They would likely need NBC or ESPN to pick up more PGA Tour events (or even one of the two Majors they have) in order to do so as that has been the main obstacle towards them getting NASCAR back. CBS has the interest level & the money but is in an inflexible contract with the PGA Tour & has been for years. However due to the war currently taking place between the PGA Tour & LIV that is threatening to do the same thing that happened to Indycar in the mid 90's, it may open the door for CBS to finally cut back on its golf commitments & focus more on getting NASCAR back. Ideally, CBS should try to get the 1st half of the season as it will be impossible for them to air races on big CBS during the NFL season.

Steve Phelps said during his appearance on 'The Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcast' back in February that while streaming platforms are an integral part to the future of television coverage, the importance of over-the-air broadcasting is critical to having a significant number of eyeballs on the product they are trying to sell.
This is why I feel FOX Sports will be left out in the dust. They do not have a platform similar to the streaming services of peacock, ESPN+ or even Paramount+.
NASCAR is a tougher brand to sell now than it was during the last round of negotiations for television rights. With the rise in popularity of Formula One here in the United States (both in terms of viewership and marketability), a guaranteed platform model for the next eight years that took full advantage of what both options have to offer. This would provide stability for the sanctioning body and not only assist in propelling the league into the future, but serve as a reminder to the world of professional sports why NASCAR is worth the investment in a rebound of growth to a position it once held before.

    1. Mike Joy - He's the cornerstone of the network. He's also in his 70's. I don't see him commentating much longer. I see him retiring after this contract is up. He retires, FOX is done.
    2. Other networks interest - NBC will stay, but what about others? The CBS experiment with SRX was a bust & they're not likely to do it now. TNT will never come back. ESPN is the wild card. Will ESPN forgive what NASCAR did to them & TNT in 2012?
The best bet is ESPN replacing FOX, but their interest & what Mike Joy decides to do after this current deal is up will determine what happens.

What I would LOVE, NBC gets the full season. All 3 series. Just imagine Memorial Day weekend: you’re a race fan in the US, you watch Monaco if it’s that weekend (sky sports does a great job IMO), then turn on NBC for a full day of racing. Pre-reads for the Indy 500 all the way to Coke 600 post race. You keep your usual guys wheee they are, indycar guys in Indy, NASCAR guys in Charlotte, but maybe you ring the other guys up (like Dale chimes in in the 500, Hinch and Bell chime in on the 600).
NBC graphics package is top tier, they don’t act like fans are stupid but also keep the viewer informed and actually explain some of the tech in the car, plus with Fox out of the way, the all-star race could, in theory, move around more. Also stream every race commercial
Free on peacock, and maybe you put some races exclusively on peacock. I’d love it, doubt it will happen though.

It's most likely (and I think) Fox Sports will keep NASCAR beyond 2024 with the next contract for the 1st half of the season (from the Daytona 500 to the Coke 600 at least), & have races aired on Fox, FS1 & Fox Deportes (with Amazon Prime Video as a supplementary streaming partner in the US for Fox races, while Amazon gets the international streaming rights for all NASCAR races, assuming NASCAR doesn't launch their own streaming service and/or work something out with Amazon).
I don't see CBS Sports or WBD getting NASCAR (even though it would be cool to have a Cup Series race or 2 aired on Nickelodeon similar to the NFL game broadcasts on Nick), but for the 2nd half of the season, it's either gonna be NBC (again), ESPN/ABC, or both NBC & ESPN/ABC splitting the rights. But if the 2nd half of the season is going to have more than 1 broadcaster between NBC & ESPN/ABC, then ESPN can have the Summer races airing on ESPN's networks, ESPN Deportes, ABC & ESPN+ from June -August (with Sonoma, Nashville, the 4th of July Race, Brickyard & the Coke Zero Sugar 400 in Daytona airing on ABC). Plus ESPN can do alternate broadcasts for Cup Series races similar to the Peyton & Eli MNF broadcasts, a kid-friendly broadcast similar to the NFL on Nick games airing on Disney Channel, & a Megacast for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on ABC, ESPN's networks, Freeform, Disney Channel, Disney+ & ESPN+!
NBC, USA, Telemundo & Peacock can air the playoffs from the Southern 500 in September all the way to the Season Finale race in November. But if overruns into Sunday Night Football are a concern for NBC, then they can air the NASCAR races from June-August, and let ESPN/ABC air the playoffs from Sept.-Nov. (with November's Season Finale race in Phoenix getting the Megacast treatment on ABC, ESPN's cable TV networks, Freeform, Disney Channel & ESPN+, with Disney Channel airing a kid-friendly broadcast similar to the NFL on Nick).
As for NASCAR launching their own streaming service, it should be called NASCAR Unlimited, featuring live commercial-free races not just for Cup, Xfinity & Truck Series races, but also lower-level & international races, in addition to scanner audio & in-dash cams during races, exclusive pre-race & post-race shows including press/media conferences, plus an on-demand archive of previous NASCAR races.

However, I do think you'll be right that FOX will sadly come back and ESPN will jump on board.
But while Amazon would be a good option, and I wouldn't be completely against it, I think NASCAR does need to have a home on network TV, whether that's on NBC, FOX or ABC, at least for some races (Daytona 500, Coke 600, Southern 500, etc.).

Hopefully as many broadcast partners as possible....... more tv networks means more exposure/coverage/positive coverage ...... since 2000 no other sport INTENTIONALLY reduced the number of tv partners except NASCAR.... every other league increased the tv partners so there were more partners that had a vested interest in covering + cross promoting their sports. The single network tv contract is one of the large reasons NASCAR has faltered the last two decades..... going with a all streaming like Amazon would be the final nail in the coffin for NASCAR to ever become a top tier sport....... you don't intentionally shut out completely a broadcasting medium as large still as TV
