I never went to any party late 90s early 00s and there was not a NORD LEAD 2 on the decks or just sitting around. The first synth I ever bought 2005,still my main keyboard.
My very first synth; Nord Rack 2. I was all midi, no sampler, just a Yamaha extension board for my soundblaster which was a rompler equivalent to the cs1x. Ironically, I got way more songs done.
understandable, honestly the flexibility and ease of use of the NL2 makes the difference, it's super inspiring and beside that it sounds great. I mean even today, just add some nice effects to it and its still rocking...
@@olliepsy I got some cool shit from a fast sawtooth mod on the filter but I also had the filter envelope set with the attack on 12 or 1 o’clock the release about the same, with the release on the amp envelope longer. It was kinda chewy, slowly open the cutoff. Also, try fm with the second oscillator no key tracking, some weird metallics to be found there…m
Heh, I did say in the NL4 video that NL2 is much better ;) I Re-bought NL1 rack that i used to own in the 90's. Minimalistic hands on synth, but what a sound!
You needed both back then, the virus did gritty better as well as having a better mod matrix in that it actually had a mod matrix. I had a Novation Nova as well, but the midi ports got damaged on it. Novation are like Korg for build quality.
It depends on what you're looking for, crazy bleep bloop, that would be the Virus, real VA PHAT sounds, that would be the Nord. Precise Filters, Nord, wonky digital filters, Virus... It really depends on what you need
Hello , any difference between DiscoDsp Discovery and this ?! Had a red nord version as well . No phaser and Crs , a bit less filters ... No delay and gate and .... 🙏🏻🔱🙏🏻
This is an emulation of the actual chip, kinda like those emulators that do arcade machines. Discovery doesn’t sound like the Nord, I used to own both.
I can't tell if both sound the same but one thing for sure, as @notsure1135 said, this is the emulator of the chip inside and its running the original code found on the Nord Lead 2, it's the closes thing you can get to a real Nord Lead2 (which only had a distortion as effects). Btw, I think the discodsp emulator can run the original presets of the NL2
yeah but isn't easier to just add a delay and re-create the echo than stealing other notes and limiting the polyphony of the synth? Honestly I think the Arp module is wayy too limited and doesn't have that much of an added value if you're running the emulator in the DAW
Nord lead makes really interesting looking waveforms and they seem to cut through other waveform in a way that makes it sit on a full mix effortlessly
The waveforms are rich harmonically and the algorithms manipulating them are top notch, that's why I think they cut that easily through any mix!
thanks for this. im going to this out tonight on one of the free emulators.

Honestly I'm not that far away from buying one myself, even when I have the emulator I used in this tutorial hehe
the Nordlead 2 is about as iconic as the Virus was to Goa/PsyTrance
Totally!!!
Oh yeeees brother 🙌🏻🙏🏻
I have the Nord lead 2x and I can't live without it 😅
Sounds tasty😮

Massive Synth!
Clavia’s algorithms are the best in my opinion, might be even better than the Virus!

Think about it: Algorithms are coded in 1993 and they still sound great!

@@olliepsy it can, but it doesn’t sound as good, despite the extra options.
Of course you were :)
Lfo 2 also does echo
Note stealing echo.
