    10 second rule should not be allowed to end a game

      If u run out of timeouts u can just fake injuries to get free timeouts, thats why rule is there

    • @zeaferjones1404

      Trust me the offense would rather have 10 second run off then running time. Yeah if one of your players gets hurt and can't get up and there is 8 seconds left you lose. However if there is 14 seconds you get an extra time out so its screws the defense too.

      This. 2010 Music City Bowl. Tennessee Vols vs UNC Tar Heels. Heels are driving late trailing by three with no timeouts. They get a first down play in field goal range with under :10 left. On the hurry up snap the Heels are called for too many men on the field. There was one second left on the clock. The penalty benefits them more than what a penalty is supposed to do which is PENALIZE a team. The penalty stops the clock which allows the Heels to kick the tying field goal to send the game to OT where they win. How was any of that fair to Tennessee? The ten second runoff is a good rule to penalize teams who intentionally get penalized to their benefit.

    the lions should not have had a run off, because it was not a penalty or an injury timeout by the lions, it was a timeout initiated by the officials, which means that they have to go back to a running clock, but since the timeout was by the officials, then there is not allowed to be a runoff, they start the clock on the whistle. However I believe this might have to do with the fact that this was the lions, but even more perplexing it didn't happen on thanksgiving.

    • @TroyVan6654
      @TroyVan6654 5 лет назад

      This 10-second runoff (at 4:05) is due to a ruling reversal on replay. After the 2-minute warning of a half, if an on-field call that stops the clock (here, a touchdown) is changed to one that keeps the clock running (down by contact), there is a 10-second runoff to account for the time that would have been spent to spot the ball, plus the clock will start at the spot (i.e. the ready-for-play signal that starts the play clock). Neither team can decline the runoff, but either team can call a timeout, if any, to prevent it.

    I remember that Steelers and Patriots game. Every time I see this I see the receiver maintain possession of the football all the way until after the elbow hits. The call may have been right, but wrong all the same. This was the game that changed the rules for the next season. It was also a very pivotal game that could have place the Steelers above the Patriots in the playoffs. It would have been interesting to see a possible Steagles superbowl. Same goes for the Lions game. We all know that both those receivers earned those catches.

    1:16 The most memorial part of this whole thing is how close Carroll is to the official when he makes the call, how Carroll signals HIMSELF a touchdown after the official announces the call, and then how Carroll pumps him his arm is a celebratory salute right afterwards. I still have NEVER anything this like this, live on TV, in a college or NFL football game. Just absolutely freaking bizarre. I mean, why wasn't the ref at the center of the football field?

    • @monteporche5552
      @monteporche5552 5 лет назад

      The rule, as I understand it, is that if the clock is running, and the officials have to stop the clock for an automatic review, there is a 10 second runoff after the play. It's designed to prevent a team from benefitting of the officials make an incorrect call in their favor.
      For example, 5 seconds left, clock is running, and the quarterback throws it to a receiver at the goalline. The receiver catches the ball, and falls to the ground. It is ruled a touchdown. The play is reviewed, and it is determined that he was actually down at the 1/2 yard line. Had the correct call ben made, there is no way that the offense would have been able to reset at the line of scrimage and run another play. They shouldn't get a free play because the officials made the incorrect call initially.

  • @JohnDoe-bz3ci
    @JohnDoe-bz3ci 5 лет назад +1

    Normally, if a pass is caught by both the receiver and defender AT THE SAME TIME, the tie goes to the offense, and that is what the replacement ref was calling in the SEA-GB game. However, you can clearly see, at 1:04 of this video (and the replay official should have been able to see this also) that ONLY the Green Bay defender caught the ball initially. Since that was the case, now, if the receiver gets his hands in there and gets partial possession, the tie no longer goes to him...…..it goes to the player that first caught the ball which was the Green Bay player.Instead of talking with the other official, in an attempt to get it right, the replacement official who signaled TD, said in subsequent interviews, that he wanted to make a call quickly, so no one would think he was unsure. Well, trying to protect your image, at the expense of getting the call right, is a sign of a bad official.

      It doesnt really matter if he caught it, it was in the end zone so the play should have ended right there and thats a touchdown

      He caught it and with the rule adjustment that's a catch this year.

    You could make a whole video of the Lions. Golden Tate catch - run off. Calvin Johnson - non-catch. Aaron Rodgers - Hail Mary. Seahawks - batted ball. Good times...

      There was nothing to stop the play so it was just one of those crummy things that happen. They also couldn't let play continue with an injured player on the field. Crummy rule maybe, but it was designed to stop teams from stopping the clock with fake injuries.

    At 3:08, if I were lovie Smith I wouldve argued that there was 12 seconds left when Evans got hurt, so they would've had 2 seconds left after the runoff

    I’ve googled and I still don’t understand the 10 second runoff. It’s too confusing

    • @monteporche5552

      It's not confusing.
      Let's take the scenario with the Lions. A receiver catches the ball and dives for the endzone. It is ruled a touchdown, and the clock is stopped with 8 seconds left. They review, and determine that the player was down prior to the ball breaking the plane of the goal line. If the officials had made the right call on the field, then the clock doesn't stop with 8 seconds left, it continues running, and the offense has to try and get set and run another play. That is going to take some time. The rules have to account for that time, so the rules committee determiened that, on average, it would take a team 10 seconds to get set for another play. If there wasn't a 10 second runoff, then the Lions would have had more than a minute to get ready for the next play. That wouldn't be fair to the defense.
