    1:43 no there is no screen protector on the tablet, the site sells them for this reason.
    6:28 it is logical that the line is not bigger when you tilt the stylus to the line, it is not the same technology at XP PEN it is the pressure / detection system of the induction system, and circulate as much information by induction is problematic, whereas an apple pencil for example has an independent battery a tip suitable at tracing lines up to inclination
    11:48 I saw on other French channels that the colors are indeed not faithful if you do not deactivate a color optimization option in the settings.

      @BoroCG  6 месяцев назад +2

      Hi, thank you! That sounds incredible for a tablet, could you specify where I can find these calibration settings? Thing is, I've looked into it several times, and all I could find were the colorblind profiles, as well as NXTVISION page with a few switches to enable enhancements for images, videos and games, but nothing that would allow me to specifically calibrate display colors to my liking. I may be blind though, so please share more info on this!

      @@BoroCG Oh, sorry, I thought this feature was in any android device, but it could be that there is a software shell that hides some features. Maybe you can try installing third party apps or contact the developers and ask them how to do it. It's a pity, but I don't have any practical skill to customize the screen on a tablet.

  • @verdedoodleduck
    @verdedoodleduck 5 месяцев назад +5

    Thanks for the thorough review. I see the green shades in the video pretty easily. I think I would write this off just because of that - I rely on a lot of color nuance to get the drawing results I want so that would throw me off for sure. As darkercry points out, it might be the matte coating - I would also be interested in seeing if there's another option that doesn't have the tint you showed us.
    Maybe I missed it but does it integrate file storage better than other tablets with google drive and ondrive easily (probably 'no')? I can't tolerate the storage method of the tablets (enough of a hassle to keep files in sync that I rarely use it except to occasionally demonstrate how to use drawing software.)

    I would actually B a lot more interested in this tablet if it were 16” or even 15” inches in screen size. I do like how U demonstrated its additional use w/ the superDisplay app. I dislike the included pen but just as U mentioned U can use that XP Pen Pro 3.0 pen on this “BUT” only one end will work & only one button will work. Just like Huion, historically most of their display pens R not largely cross compatible among their multiple products. But I hafta give ‘em credit cuz they’ve come a long way in the short span of their company’s existence. I look forward to when they’ll become a more dependable brand on a consistent level.

    I got mine directly from xppen when it first came out and it came with some seriously bad rainbow noise. The tablet also felt terrible to use with my fingers because it quite literally was sanding away my skin. Also, this was sourced from TCL which charged 200 usd less for it when it first came out a few years ago. I don't like knowing that I paid more for some branding and half-integrated xppen drivers (get this, the sourced device had tilt sensitivity integration, and they have released a newer device since this one (alongside a different pen))... I don't want to be a downer but I bet their "new case" is just gonna be the one the company they sourced the tablet from came with.

      I agree. I know there are round about ways of doing this, but it’s not the same. I had a companion and it was awesome that it plugged into my Mac and it was its own thing when plugged out. To be fair the Mobile Studio Pro was the same, did its own thing and plugged into my Mac. Sadly those Wacom tablets were way too chunky, and the iPads so far seem to lag way too much in Sidecar.
      I do think a trick was missed here.

    the green tint is probably from the matte coating. Wouldn't be surprised. Personally, if they had a gloss version I'd prefer that, blacks look better on gloss. Even the newest Ipad matte stuff can't get the blacks as deep as a regular gloss screen, and I like a smooth drawing surface as well.

      The funny thing is, on Samsung there's tilt support, but it's pretty hard to use to its full potential because of the fat front of the pen surrounding the tip. The only stylus that lets you really tilt is the Apple Pencil, and probably its clones. PC tablet pens are okay, but the shape still doesn't go as far as Pencil

    • @deadsm
      @deadsm 5 месяцев назад

      The Spen Pro (creator edition) is supposedly better at tilting as it has an apple pencil-like tip. Is it better than the Staedtler Norris digital or the Wacon One Gen 2 pen? 🤔
      I have the latter two, and they are so much better than the default. I haven't gotten the Spen Pro(creator edition) yet, but I will get one when I find it cheaper than retail.

    Please, if you are considering buying this for digital art, don't! This 12.2' tablet retails for $500 US and doesn't have tilt support.
    You can get a new Samsung S8U 14.6' for $650 US directly from Samsung. The S8U/S9U is the best portable tablet that isn't the newest iPad as it supports the Wacom One pen with two buttons at 120hz, OLED. That pen is the closest thing to a full-fledged Cintiq pen you can get now. It has excellent stabilization, tilt, pressure, and support for grips, and it doesn't even need to charge. It blows the old apple pencil out of the water but, sadly, doesn't have barrel roll support like the newest apple pencil.
    Samsung's non-ultra tablets still support the pen but ditch the better screen for much cheaper. Also, used versions are often on sale. Don't worry about the s9, as the only notable change is the processor. Boro did an excellent job on this review, and if you like the comments about the software, don't worry. Android tablets can use great apps like Infinite Painter, Super Display, and Clip Studio Paint.

      Those are good points actually! I think Magic Drawing Pad will drop in price sometime soon to compete better with this kind of options. S8 Ultra was originally $1000, so yeah

      @BoroCG So true. Unless XPPen wants this to stay expensive because of its tech, it should drop in price, especially if a newer version comes out, like what happened with Samsung. I can imagine a lower price, like $350, could be somewhat attractive, but with the lack of tilt, I don't even know if I could recommend it to someone getting into digital art. I hope XPPen comes back with a second version or fixes the main issues with the software, as it's weird that you can use the higher-end pen without the tilt.
      Thank you for being one of the content creators who are willing to cover things outside of the iPad. Digital art on the go has enormous potential to be better than the traditional desktop in many ways, and it gets better all the time. It's always cool to see artists who have experience with many different workflows so that you can give more informed pros and cons.

    It's not a good drawing tablet, better to check out is Lenovo Tab Pro 11 with Pencil Gen 3 or just Apple Tablet.

    Impressive tablet...although one correction...8 gb ram is plenty for not just 40 layers but 100s of layers. Ram being a limited factor for the number of layers is a bullshit propaganda peddled by Apple and its pet Procreate to upsale costlier and overpriced ipads. With my tab s7 fe base model with 4 gb ram, ive used 100s of layers in CSP without any issues. Infinite painter does try to ape procreate in this regard though.

      Procreate works different all the layers count as there are full drawn so that's why this limitatin and the app working so smoothly

      XP Pen is still new at tablets. You'd have to compare it to a Samsung tablet at the same price point. The XP Pen Magic Tablet is only directly comparable to the basic iPad given it's price and at that price point it's not bad. One could argue that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 9FE+ is better depending on how much one values the matte screen of the Magic Tablet. Both are better for artists than the basic iPad as long as you don't need to use Procreate.
      Apple literally does not have an entry level tablet for artists. It has an entry level tablet for students and other note takers. But not artists. Apple could give us a 12" screen under $600 and include the pen easily. They just choose not to. Not everyone wants to pay a premium for fancy features they will never use. Is Apple better than Android? Absolutely. Do they give you better bang for your buck than Android? Not even remotely.
      Apple's real advantage with artists is its app ecosystem. Specifically Procreate. Not the hardware it's running on. A high end Samsung tablet and an Apple Pro are pretty comparable when it comes to the hardware itself. But even on the software side Android has come a long way the last couple of years. If you only care about illustration and don't care about Procreate then you'll be good to go on Android. It's the other creative fields where Android suffers.

      Lol what :D All I said back then was that digital painting on its own doesn't have the big impact in society - the way traditional art used to have, or any other modern art form has, like film, games and music. Regular people get excited about a new music album, no one gets excited about a new digital painting. I still think that's true, but it doesn't mean digital painting is not needed as a form of craft

      @@BoroCG really sure no one gets excited for new digital painting? i know plenty of regular people who do actually and they pay for it in different ways. there are just lot more people with lot more interests nowdays doesnt mean one thing is forgotten , guess 0 regular people were amazed by ruan jia's work
