- The mixed grill is one of the most popular meals in the UK along with fish and chips, a full english breakfast and steak dinner, but what is the difference between a UK mixed grill and a USA mixed grill? I head inside 2 of the most popular nationwide pub/bar restaurants to try out both versions to see who's best!

Which mixed grill did you prefer?
Comment below 😀
Both meals looked dry to me - probably been kept under infra red heat to keep warm; noticed no-one else appeared to be eating whilst you were in either place so presume you were either early or late which would explain how they seemed to me; getting too expensive to eat out!
None. Cook at home.
One wa ok the other the better one but as best needs three contenders , my golf club is best
Didnt get that far, why say it looks bad then its fine, unsubed ... why not say its wrong and bad !
TGIs
As an American I can say these were both British. Nothing American about it. You have to be sitting here in Gulfport Mississippi where I am to really judge this as American. This was basically a cook off between two British restaurants.
How you have less than 6K subs is mad. Love this channel ❤️
Thanks 😀
That beefeater sausages were not cooked properly , I'd have complained .
I am very surprised your experience at TGI Friday's in the UK was as good as you say. Here in the States, the chain is failing and dying and the company is closing many of their locations. At the last several restaurants I ate at, the quality of the food was TERRIBLE, the locations were run down and were closed one right after another.
TGIFriday's used to be a great and fun place to go to meet friends and make new ones, but that was 40 years ago.
Either or both lol !!! Thought the sausages on the Beefeater meal were a bit off putting by the colour. Looks like you enjoyed them. Thanks xx
I would have again for sure
I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to where I am going to eat & can be a pain with my lack of decisiveness.
However, had a works meeting with a client, as she was staying at a particular hotel, she had booked supper at the bar / restaurant connected to the hotel.
Oh no! I thought, 'welcome to Beefeater'.
I was pleasantly surprised at menu, she was quick to order so my lack of decisiveness was not allowed to fester - I ordered within minutes.
Portobello Mushrooms stuffed with bacon & Stilton blue cheese.
Fillet steak (cooked blue) with a salad.
Not sure what was going into my head as we spoke about the business we represent, how we could help each other & do so for a very long time.
Mushrooms arrived.
Adrenaline seem to rush round my body.
They were amazing, needed to share with friends that a Beefeater starter was perfect.
My steak arrived - perfectly cooked, I joked with the waiter when I was asked which sauce I'd like.
'Bring me a vet as it looked like we could bring this cow back to life'.
The steak was the bomb!
I loved it also.
My partner was texted & I did nothing but sing Beefeaters praises.
We went to Beefeater the next evening & again at the weekend.
Reason I share this I'd because Beefeater know how to cook meat, I have never had a bad meal from them.
The British mixed grill to me is legendary.
Those who cook it well deserve their venue spoke about - quality & value for money in this financial climate is essential.
TGI's never done it for me.
I too found meat overcooked making it dry - the aftermath of eating liver comes to mind, there is a cotton wool feel to my mouth & tongue.
I have mentioned how much I enjoy your vlogs, subjects I really enjoy.
Envious that you eat here & there & compare.
One thing you might try is the kebab comparison.
Lamb Shish & a portion of Doner meat - compare the food to other kebab shops.
If you ever get to Barrow-in-Furness, we have an amazing Turkish restaurant Kapadokya, they do an amazing Shish & authentic doner meat.
(Not the elephant leg turning in front of the gas fire).
Good luck with the vlogs fella, looking fwd to many more.
Luv your shows, thx a million!
Thanks 😀 You're welcome
I would choose the Beefeater meal. It looked like the meat was juicier and the steak was nicely pink. The TGI Fridays fries looked crispier but overall the Beefeater meal looked best. Living in the US, Fridays is hit or miss and definitely not as good as they used to be.
The meat was a little more juicy at the Beefeater meal
The Beefeater chicken also looked very tasty!
Hello, Good morning. I loved the U.K. mixed grill. Everything on there looked tasty and was done to your liking. I thought the US mixed grill was all dried up. For the money that should have been made much better. Also, I love seeing the combo bites. Thank you for showing us both😊
Thanks 😀 I love making the combo bites
Beefeater sausages look very undercooked
This guy sounds like something you would watch back in primary days
The American grill looked very flavourfull with the seasonings but I think more care should have been taken when cooking as it looked a bit dry but the ribs looked good as lots of natural fat in then to keep them juicy!,no runny egg either! This time the first mixed grill looked more appealing to me and a bit cheaper too! excellent vid again EIE sorry don't know your name!!
The UK mixed grill wins easy for me mate
It takes it for me too
You can't really compare them as the price is so much more at Friday's
This was fascinating to watch. In my experience you can tell a lot about a restaurant by how they serve certain dishes. Calimari, chicken breasts, onion rings, steaks, and fried shrimp. You can easily, I mean easily, screw up any of those dishes. You got three of those dishes and both places looked like they did a good job on them.
I know onion rings sounds like an odd choice but I have had more than my share of low quality onion rings. A place that fixes up a good onion ring usually fixes up good food all around.
I need to win the lotto so I can sponsor you to go on an eating tour through Canada and the US.
I would love to go on an eating tour of Canada and the US 😀 Please sponsor me if you win the lotto lol
I was having a mixed grill in Cas Saturday. Instead of just enjoying my meal i was scoring the food and concentrating on combos. 😂
Hahaha hope you made some good combos lol
Another fantastic review that made me hungry. UK mixed grill hands down winner 👍
Good choice
What l'm seeing the UK grill is very similar to the English breakfast items, the tomatoes, egg, sausage, mushroom, french fries, ham. Grant it that is lots of meats for a grill (UK). Friday's meal looked quite nice. Unfortunately so many restaurants chains or family own restaurants have closed their doors since the pandemic & inflation in America.
Another good review. I also think the UK grill looked better & as luck would have it i live quite close to Beefeater at Yeadon! I might mention you when i go for a discount 😀
Haha they won't have a clue who I am lol
I've been to TGI Fridays a few times i think its a franchise so some are better than others! I didnt think Beefeater near me but looking at their website there is one a few towns away, i would upgrade the steak.
I think I might have to go back and try the steak meals
Nice video, liked the US combo but looked overcooked. I have never had chicken on a mixed grill, always lamb chops.
Enjoyed this video, but when you said about TGI Fridays' + if they were not familiar with them they are based in UK and around the world-you would of had to of been trapped in a cave for decades not to know this brand lol
Your face expressions make me laugh though with the voiceovers when eating the food/drinking the drink! lol
My golf club used to do a terrific golfers grill . Rump steak , pork chop , chicken breast , sausage , bacon , egg and chips . Think it was just a starter being in Scotland .
That sounds like a good meal
I always Get Mash with a Mixed Grill.
I feel it adds something light on the plate.
I can't remember if that was an option 🤔
I would prefer the American but would have doused it in bbq sauce in the American style
I should have asked for some 😞
I’ve been to tgi Fridays a few times and yet to actually have a good cooked meal. Beefeater is decent for the money but don’t think you can beat a greene king mixed grill
Agree some the comments, the US grill looked an impressive array of meat but whether it was the spices on the meat it looked dry to me but the chips looked nice crispy. The UK mixed grill would be my choice although the sausages looked uncooked on presentation by the unusual greyish appearance but no doubt from another good review one could see they were cooked inside. The steak was perfectly cooked, medium rare but with not to charred outside. Better value for money too IMO.
いつも上品な食事マナーに癒されてます😊✨
イギリスのmixed grillは野菜あって健康的!グリル料理は野菜が欲しいです
Surely that TGI Fridays meal was a sharer? There's no way I could eat all that :-)
I don't think so, it didn't say that on the menu lol
I would choose the Beefeater meal because I like sausage and egg and a grilled tomato. I like tomatoes chips are okay, but I'm not a huge fan of chips in general. A few chips now and then are good though. I prefer sweet potato fries.
What is gammon? I'm American, so I don't always understand what the foods are. I am game to try new things.
Gammon is a bacon steak. It's usually served with a fried egg or a slice of pineapple.
Beef eater sausages would have been sent back if they don’t look cooked they aren’t as far as I’m concerned
Very difficult to compare the two and the US food seems to be very much based on their , entirely delicious, barbecue tradition.. My first query was to ask where the lamb chop was . Back when I was young you would get a bit of kidney with your chop as well.
Did tgi get this food from Iceland
A bacon chop is not a pork chop. It is a very thick slice of bacon. Two excellent meals - you need to be hungry.
I was very hungry when i have these lol
WHERES THE LAMB?!! Gotta have a lamb chop on a mixed grill!
Fantastic video. Mixed grill always catches my eye on a menu. I'd definitely go with the English version, that chicken looked delicious, and it costs a tenner less than the dry-looking TGIF meal
The chicken really surprised me actually
Cracking video , both looked great but beefeater takes it for me
They just took it for me too 😀
I think both could be good but the UK wins today, The USA grill fell short on cooking, it looked liked it had been standing in an oven for 20 mins before being served, however if both were cooked as they should be then it would be impossible to choose a winner.
Yes, if both were cooked perfectly, it would be tough to choose
tbf ive never ever seen a mix grill like that beefeater one looool looks raw
TFI Fridays is nothing like USA mixed grill it's suited for the UK diner maybe take a trip and see the difference
Hubby loves a british mixed grill. ❤
I like mixed grill too, its like a mini sampling plate lol
I prefer to choose the Beefeater meal because the meat was juicier and the steak was nicely pink.
The steak was for sure better at Beefeater
Is that it? Where is the black pudding and the rest of the mixed grill such as the half rack of ribs.
Are both meals eaten on the same day?
Not this time, I think these meals were too big lol
What is gammon? (I hope I'm saying and spelling it correct) Is it similar to a country or Virginia ham?
Edit- As far as the sausage goes in the first restaurant I think it was boiled or cooked in the oven, then put on the grill just prior to serving.
I don't know the American equivalent. There are technical differences between gammon and ham
But generally gammon to bought uncooked and served in traditional meat forms. Joints or "steaks"
Ham is usually bought cooked and sliced for sandwiches
Gammon is a cured, uncooked ham cut from the leg. Can be either from the shank or the butt, but usually from the shank. Fry it up and you have a ham steak.
Ham Steak, here it's usually a slice of ham including the bone
I live in the USA the USA does not use local fresh ingredients like the UK does which is a shame
Mine does. Quit running your country down.
I also live in the land of the stomach jolly England takes this easy just looks better and i bet it tastes better
I woke up with you this morning😂
That sounded wrong 😅
@@mikekaraoke I can't remember if that was deliberate or not🤣
@@mrkiplingreallywasanexceed8311 That makes it sound even worse 🤣🤦♂
I’ve had both before and both are decent, personally I prefer Beefeaters but those sausages looked anaemic! Personally nothing beats Harvester’s Ultimate mixed grill because of the ribs but it is a belly buster!
I'll need to try the Harvester one sometime
Nice piece of Gammon.
I think uk is better plate steak looked superb
Missed a coleslaw on both plates eh But descent meals
Not really a thing here in Australia a mixed grill, I do them at home My Boys love them. When we come to uk in 2024, will try it out 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🦘🌻🦘
Mixed grill used to be the premium pub meal in Australia before the Parma took over
Im distracted by the fact that you are at Yeadon Stoops. I’d have left that mixed grill and popped over the road to Murgatroyds. I know, I know it’s a chippy but the look of that mixed grill made me think I’d be leaving it.
I have been there before and the fish and chips are great! 😋
Surely it's usually a pork chop as part of the mix?
I ordered a meal ( steak, and chips with an additional fried egg, my friend pie and chips,),at a beefeater 4 weeks ago. They forgot the egg,the food was average at best. The manageress apologised, when I mentioned it,
omg a chip in yolk is one of the best
Its a great bite!
Although this a comparison of UK and USA, I have to say that the "USA" mixed grill is very much UK comforted. There would NEVER be a grilled mushroom and tomato in a true American grill, as those two are the most often disliked by American folks. I did ♥ the video, though!!!
These pop up on my suggested every week. Good videos, if you drop the robot voice I'll subscribe.
But I am robot 🤖
To be fair TGI Fridays is much more upmarket than beefeater, hence the price.
Those portions are enough for 2 people. I can't imagine eating all of that food alone, especially in one sitting. And that TGI Fridays is not even close to be a decent representation of American food. I think that the pork is indeed a pork chop, they just called it bacon chop as a way for Brits to identify the cut of meat. What the brits call bacon is used from the loin and just a bit from the belly, same as pork chops in the US. Bacon is made from the belly typically in most places, including the US. So their choice of wording on that is trying to be helpful, but ended up being confusing. But it definitely was a pork chop.
I wonder if there's anywhere left in the uk that still does a proper mixed grill . When I was a kid & my dad wanted to treat me it would be our local for a mixed grill & the meats were steak , gammon , pork chop , lamb chop , kidney , liver & sausage , none of this chicken breast bs of today , like everything else today it's all gone Pete tong
Yo! I would defo go for the Beefeater one. It looked so much more inviting and cared about. The other one looked a little too much about the chain than the customer. Like watching your stuff! Love food! It's a brilliant art!
Thanks 😀 The beefeater one did see a bit more cared about, you're right!
In Australia a mixed grill will be ‘lamb chops, T-bone steak, sausages, bacon, fried egg, grilled tomato, mushrooms and chips’. Think in this case I like the TGI Fridays version ALTHOUGH I don’t like TGI Fridays as I always found it’s service extremely slow and bad. I thought the English meat looked a little underdone and underwhelming for me.
It's not a PORK CHOP😢 It's basically a thick piece of bacon, cured like gammon, hence "bacon 🥓 🥩 " Both looked good😊but its got to be...........The English 😅😅😊 The 🥚 is key.Good series of videos 😊
I was wondering about the bacon chop
UK one definitely
It took the win for me
Yeah the English meat looked so tender, but the American meat on the mixed grill looked dry
The TGI Fridays meats were a little dryer which is why I chose Beefeater
As an American I hate to say to my British cousins that TGI Friday is not the best representation of American cuisine.
Don't get me wrong, I have been to TGI Fridays here in America many times. It is quite popular here as well. I actually like TGI Fridays.
But TGI Fridays is a big corporate franchise chain restaurant. The best American cuisine on this side of the Atlantic will not be found in a big corporate franchise chain, it will be found at little mom and pop locally owned restaurants. Is it safe to assume that is also the case in the UK?
I guess that TGI Fridays would probably represent American cuisine fairly well abroad but if I had a British friend visiting who wanted me to take them to try good ol American food at the best places I know of I don't think I would take that friend to a TGI Fridays, even if we tried different places every day for two straight weeks unless it was requested.
Uk all day!!! ….Smithy
Its just took it for me 😀
Beefeater was THE destination when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s. Now it’s just hanging on by it’s finger nails. And if you didn’t get the sh1ts off those sausages you have dodged a bullet. Again T.G.I FRIDAY was unreal back in the late 80s early 90s ( just as they came to the UK ) I was lucky enough to be in Florida when my Dad noticed the waitress had a Manchester accent it turns out she was training to be the manager of the first restaurant in the UK at Salford ( of course he flirted and we went for free when it opened ) it was out of this world. Now it’s all done to a price most of it is DING and it is a real shame. But I get the feeling people don’t understand experience eating anymore it just seems to be about the bragging rights and food is secondary.
I have to agree, beefeaters sausages look peculiar. I know some sausages are wrapped in a synthetic skin not sure about this one
UK mixed grill for me anyday, I've had many in the states and while they are good they are not a patch on ours. Back in the day a UK version also had liver and kidneys but seems they have gone out of fashion now which is a shame. Cheers
with the beefeater being £19. that's not cheap for what you get. £22.28 total means drink was £3.28.
could the sausage be boiled in a bag then put on the grill to add the marks. the same for the chicken etc.
i do think the gammon is better to eat with the egg. I was not a fan of gammon. until i found a way to hide the taste
the 4 oz steak is only 113g size. so it is not that expensive to buy. you could buy the items from Iceland enough for 2 people and make that meal for 2 and have enough to get a pudding .
for the tgi. the chicken wing is a cheaper item over a breast. but with the spices etc makes this meal harder to make at home than the Beefeater version.
still think just getting half a tomato is a bit stingy in the same way as just the 1 not so large mushroom.
£33.35 for TGI is so much more money. but you did get some different meats but I am not sure that they are worth a good £10 more in cost. since they are still cheap cuts of meat being used.
The Beefeater one was cooked on a dirty grill. I would have thrown those sausages out the window mate. 😢
As a Britt living in America ithinkyour bob on
Beefeater sausages 🤮
TGI Friday cost 😱
Think I'll stick to a Full English without the American input of hash browns 🤣
Best food, that's personal taste, there's food some people love that I wouldn't eat if you paid me.
I think the UK one was better value for money, the only thing i didn't like the look of was the sausages
Hmmm both in the uk so it’s not a fair comparison with countries, especially as they are both basic food chains in the uk
the american grill looked better , to the viewer the meat all looks dry! but i agree with what you say about the taste and the moistness
There is a Fridays near me, but I never go there. Feels like a more expensive Applebee's, in a bad way.
how many grams of protein is in that meal?!
Too many! 😬
It doesn't show Alaska or Hawaii.
Thank goodness, it’s Friday for that super mix grill.
However, like yourself, I’m going for the UK mixed grill .
It just took it for me
uk.8/10 do not mind there presation, looks tastey just chips let it down .
Usa 9/10 they got crispy chips seasoned everything . If id got a gravey even better.
Both to me represent poor value for money but hey its tough to get value for money these days! Both right up my street though, tough to pick a winner
1 you wouldn't get a mushroom or grilled tomato over here in Florida
What would you get instead?
@@everydayimeating3407 they don't eat whole mushroom or half of tomatoes here in south Florida they would have mac and cheese or a vegetable
you do know bacon is different here they use belly of the pig, an the fillet is sold separately
It’s actually a Gammon chop.
you do know there's a world outside leeds lol
I'm British and have never had a mixed grill.
You should try one and see what you think 😀
He clearly says the sausages WERE cooked regardless of the external colour.
Both looked good but beefeater just takes it
I agree
Beefeater for me. The American food is covered in grease. xx
What grease? The foods were grilled. I think that your bias is showing.
A bacon chop is NOT a pork chop, the clue is in the name, available in most supermarkets!
I think beefeater mixed grill
Tgi was ok but a 10pound more
Looked dry
To be honest the UK one looked rancid. Weird colour sausages and no excuse for black bits on chips. US grill for me, but agree it was expensive.
The concept of a "mixed grill" does not exist in the US. The closest you could come would be to go to an AYCE brunch buffet and load up on all the meats. Someone at TGIF's UK corporate HQ said "let's do this, the Limeys like it." They were correct...other than the absurd price point. Even today, a Golden Corral AYCE lunch buffet [which contains most of these items] is under $14 in the US.
who asked?
In my opinion, the beefeater sausages were raw
They looked cooked to me and I'm fairly discerning
They were cooked, but the colour was a bit pale
I liked the fridays one but it was pricy!😮
I could never eat that much food in one sitting but I like the look of some of the individual items ❤🏴
Always gets me how people are so familiar with bad food. A sausage doesn't need to be dark on the outside to be cooked, just like any meat, look up boiled sausage quite popular with people who do not like that burnt taste. And if it's so dark on the outside I can guarantee you've cooked it to quick and the centre is undercooked, or it's just toast.
Beefeater x
I agree 😀
Food looked ok but both ridiculously over priced for what's effectively pub grub; the TGI should come with a drink included for 30 quid.
Have you seen the price of food in pubs recently?
Well, without watching I can reject the American !
The mushroom would KILL me. Can you ask for it to be left off, and have the steak without coming in contact with anything mushroomy?
