- Mr. Poseidon giving my review on Bill Wetzel, NYS Fishing Guide. This was my first ever surf fishing trip to Montauk Long Island. After hearing my intro review, you will see the footage showing video of me and him fishing together as he leads and teaches me techniques on how to become a better surf fisherman.

Seriously that’s why I consider him the King when it comes to fishing those grounds. If your ever in area you should look into getting a guided trio with him. Bill Wetzel is legendary for alot of us who follow his videos. Your experience is exactly what I would expect no matter our own skill level elsewhere. Bill is Montauk nice tribute to him and his years of dedication showing others the way. True fish story - 2 nights ago I stop to get coffee on my way to the beach, opened the door to 711 realize Billy Joel is on the radio in the store. I left before the door even closed behind me. 1 fish that night thanks to Mr. Wetzel. Tight lines...

Grew up in islip Grandpa lived in Montauk always fished plugs and poppers off the beach and rocks in montauk now I live in the Poconos catch fresh water stripers on Lake Wallenpaupack I was so suprised they had stripers in the mountain lakes thought My striper days where over .I do t catch montalk cows anymore but pretty big and fun . Now I use 17 pound fluorocarbon and a bait caster now instead of a 9 foot pole and 60 pound braid.
Yes I can recall also with my dad and montauk. Great days and great memories. Grandpa. Sounds like a true fisherman living in Montauk and you got to enjoy some great times. Poconos. Yes very relaxing and as I get up in age it’s what we look for most. Some relaxing and stress free times. Wish I was there the first time you hauled in a Striper in the poconos. Probably bought back some great memories of Long Island fishing. I chase Striper and all you did was move somewhere and they followed you. Awesome! Still feeling the cow when fishing with lighter tackle. Good story! Thanks truly for your support James. I’m glad you became a subscriber! Hopefully we will tell more fish stories this coming season. Getting a great guide was so smart. Too many people don't. What time of year was your first trip with Bill?
My first trip with him was late May that first time. Best time for Montauk I would like to say is month of June. Late night fishing Stripers name of game. With Bill you will learn what you need to go out alone. Learn what tides to fish were. Know the surf so no issues arise meaning accidents. Just teach you the ropes on how to get around and teach you correct methods for getting up in those rocks on the south side. What ever your questions are he will answer. He made me the surf fisherman I am today. I always love learning new. I’m going out with him early June again. Pls subscribe to my channel. I also live stream with my wife on Sunday nights at 7pm. @@MrPoseidonSays I agree on all of that. I used to go out there in May and June in the late 80s and actually got to know Jack yee. This past year I finally went back in September and Oct. I plan on hitting there in May and June again. Great video and great job of showing how good a guide Bill is.

James Brown o yeah the rod. I love that rod. Lightweight and repaired now. It’s all good. I use that with my Van staal VR. It’s the lighter version but what a team they make. Super super light gear. Fish all day with that and I’m not feeling the weight!

You need to learn hot to catch stripers In Rivers with lures its what I love to do in my area ...it’s a little different of an art

Bill is a great guide. But don't tell me you were a bait fisherman and have Century and St. Croix rods and Van Staal reels?
Not really sure what you mean by your comment but the rods you see in the room are brand new and so was the bailess Van Staal 250 reel which was about a month old. I partnered that with my 12 year old Lamiglas rod to get used to the bailess reel since I was going to be lure fishing. Over the few years fishing and watching You Tube for reviews, I now own 4 Legend rods which I think are the best on the market and a GSB Lamiglas also one of the best on the market (just my opinion) and let's not forget my Century rod, since I've been primarily lure fishing now.
I owned a Penn reel and a Thunnus which were my go to reels back when I was bait fishing. I hope this satisfies your curiosity.

I use to fish Matunck from the 70's to early 90's in the spring around the 15 of april to just before memorial day ....still have some pics from the 80's..

Mr Poseidon, he is a very god fishermen and fishing in long island is hard because you need very good gear, and need to be strong balance on rocks and Handel those waves. Bill wetzel isn't a guide just to tell you what lures to use, he is a friendly person who fishes with you and shows you the Technics of how to catch striped bass. Hopefully you go with him one times I have and I loved it. Hope you go with him.
