    Man, this is such a subtly awesome pattern. The valet tray idea is so classic, but also done pretty much the same way every time. I love how unique this design is. Great work, for real.

    • @ClaridgeLeather

      Thanks! They work pretty well, and I would recommend using a heavyweight leather. I have made them in 9 to 10 ounce firm leather, and they work quite well.

  • @threecrosses9988

    Nice project! I have recently finished a product and applied a well known leather balm to the item. Applied small amounts in circular motion and buffed out by hand. Item was sent recently from Va to Florida.it arrived with white swirls which I believe is bee wax which appeared after shipment. Do you have a preferred method for buffing leather. I had rub with cloth and will use horse hair brush. Never used any power buffers. Never had this issue. Thoughts/recommendations are appreciated.

    • @ClaridgeLeather
      @ClaridgeLeather  2 года назад +1

      I think I have experienced what you're describing, and I think it's sometimes referred to as "bloom," where the wax in (or on) the leather comes to the surface over time depending on environmental factors. This is sometimes unavoidable, and I wouldn't worry about it too much! All it tells you is that the leather is well-nourished and all it should take is a little buffing (I like to use a soft cloth) to work the wax back in and buff off the excess. I think it's really reasonable to explain this to the customer and assure them that this is normal and just a sign of well-loved, well-nourished leather. Cheers!! -Tanner

    A nice change from the usual snap or stitched corners but I got to ask, how did you come up with the pattern. Trial and error pieced together to obtain measurements for Adobe pattern. I could see myself attempting this in that way (minus Adobe). Guess you really got me going. Good (GREAT) job.

      I actually started by wrapping masking tape over a metal tray I liked, then peeled the tape off to make the beginning of a pattern. Getting it digitized, eventually, was the final step!

    Tanner can you tell me the leather you used in this video including the thickness

    • @ClaridgeLeather
      @ClaridgeLeather  2 года назад

      Hi Peter! This was a leather I got from Maverick Leather- it is an 8/9oz Italian veg tan (I think it was called “Douglas”?). I just checked the site and didn’t see it there… but I have found that a heavier/firmer leather like this works great for the tray, especially if you scale it up and make it larger. Thank you for your support!! 🙏🏼
