8:08, that, is what we call “Stunned Silence”. He is that good.
Exactly. Brings tears to my eyes every time.
More like “tv effects” but I understand the sentiment
The best illustration of how powerful his rendition of the song was, is the complete and total SILENCE throughout the entire song. If not for his voice, you could hear a pin drop. And he had them so enraptured, they almost forgot to clap. The song ends, and there was still dead silence for a few seconds. That's called "owning your audience." And this is still the best cover of "Creep: I've ever heard anyone come up with.
Great song choice to react to. This deserves to be brought up every once in a while, just to remind people how good it really is.

When a singer is singing and there is nothing but silence because everyone is captivated....they knocked the performance out of the park. I don't see it that often on tv where there is nothing but silence during the performance. But Brian is an amazing singer!
"I think American Idol doesn't know what they're doing." +10000000
I love it when a performance is so good that the audience is stunned into silence for a moment before exploding into applause. Then you KNOW it was an extraordinary performance.
Glad you have been introduced to Brian. This was the Judges Cut, the second audition. His first audition was Somebody to Love by Fabulous Freddy and Queen. Brian does a fabulous cover of it.
An artist you have to watch is Paolo Nutini doing Iron Sky {Live Abby Road} The speech is Charlie Chaplin from his movie The Great Dictator.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
In the couple of decades these shows have been popular, I have found that it it is far more rare for the "winners" to have lasting commercial success than it is for those that "placed well".
felt the SAME EXACT way when Adam Lambert didn't win his season an American Idol...would LOVE to see your reaction to some of his performances on that show!!! Brian pulls out the emotion from everyone..even the hardest of hearts would feel nothing listening to this rendition!! YOU, Maggie, are so beautiful and precious...don't ever change!!!
Thank you for your lovely comment. 😊💖 Hope to see you TONIGHT: ruclips.net/video/Bzan_Nmd1wQ/видео.html
So happy to see this one shared! It’s one of my favorite performances. Hopefully you’re able to share your reaction to Kody Lee’s audition too. 🥰
Cant' wait to see you tonight! 🤘💖
I love how his mom stood prouder with every note he sang. He is the real deal.
BJC's performance of that is, in my opinion, the definitive performance of Creep. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
His version of Shallow is amazing! You should check out all of this AGT and AGT The Champions performances. All are stunning!
"Love you Mommy, love you Daddy!"
Well we all love you as well, Maggie!
This is one of my obscure favorite! 😭 Such a spiritual strengh in his voice! TY for reacting to him!
One of the best performances this show has ever seen.
I don't always agree, but I don't watch the whole series. AGT is a hard one to judge the best as you can have one singer up against a 30 dancers or an acrobat couple against a magician. The hardest top 2 would have been Darci Lynne (Ventriloquist/Singer) vs Angelica Hale (Singer).
Have you heard/watch either of them Maggie?
But it always comes down to popular phone vote..or something like that... And I never understand!?
He said that his goal was to make people feel the music. I feel sympathy for people who aren't able to experience music intimately... Every note...every chord...every beat. To be able to enjoy not just the sound but feel the energy. Music has been with humanity since the beginning... it has been a form of communication since creation. I'm blessed that I have a connection with it. 🥰
The silence before the audience reacted is profound.
He has gone on to record very successfully, so he has been recognized and very well received it seems.
Did you notice that the crowd was STUNNED into silence for a seconds before they could respond. He had them.
He does a cover of “I Have Nothing” from his Divas ep that’s a killer. I get goosebumps every time I hear Brian sing!
This is his best cover so thanks but no thanks
He did a stint on B'way in Next to Normal as Gabe, the dead son. He was brilliant!
You rock! Can't wait to see you tonight! 🤗💖
First time I watch this, I was really surprised, I didn't see it coming, I mean, the start was so smooth, and then all that power, that passion!! Wow, he should have won that year competition!! Great reaction and yes, I miss you on that song too!!
I really love Brain justin crum Voice its so Amazing Hes definitly my Favorit Singer Ever. 💙 Love your Reaction maggie B-E-A-U-TIFUL Squad all the way.
Love U ❤️

@@maggiereneemusic i will maggie its a promise. 👍🏻
🥰
Such a Beautiful Woman with a Beautiful Heart!!! 😘❤🤘... God bless Maggie!!! Hello from New Hampshire
He came in fourth, behind a 12-year-old girl who wrote her own songs and played the ukulele (she won), a couple who did a mentalist act, and an NFL guy who did magic - I haven't watched AGT since >.
He has done lots since, including an original, "Circles," that is very good :-)
Stop let us hear HIM please.
Thank you for doing all the commentary and everything. Hearing his story makes this performance have a whole extra layer.
The 5th panelist there was brought in to judge because Simon thought another act should get a Golden Buzzer. The Panelist is George Lopez and he gave his Golden Buzzer to another act earlier on this show.
Can Opera singers judge Janis Joplin, Macy Gray, Mary Anne Faithful, Bonnie Tyler, Rod Stewart, Van Morrison or Ray Charles? Bob Dylan's first tour of England all the Newspaper music review reporters mocked him and asked him questions like "can you sing like Pavarotti?"
This is certainly one of my to 5 performances in any kind of music I ever heard👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘🤘And for sure the best cover of this amazing song 🤘👏🤘
Putting the best part of the reaction at the front of the video is like telling who the killer is in the forward of a book. Kinda kills the suspense.
Saw this and saw him in concert in LA
When I saw Crum sing this the first time I was speechless. Such an amazing voice. You really should check out his video with Janel Parrish from Dancing With the Stars. “Lay Me Down.” So darn good.
This was a great performance. Would love to see your reaction to Calum Scott's "Dancing on my Own" from Britain's Got Talent. That is probably the best audition ever.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
@@maggiereneemusic I may try and check in. All depends on when I get off from work. If nothing else, I'll have it playing on my drive home from work.
😊
Love Brain!! you could react to anything he does is amazing, His first audition with "Someone to Love" is great.
Talent show with a singing focus, are not about finding the best voice but they try to find a product that middle America will buy :-).
He actually played in an episode of Law & Order SVU season 12 episode 12!
I absolutely loved Grace, but she was partly a phenomena because of her age - and yes, absolutely a unique voice... not to mention she wrote her own music at age 12. Then they asked her to sing her original song that got her own the show for the final - and she refused. So, yeah - I think I can understand why she won (today I'm not as sure about her future, but she's still a great artist I'm sure). Meanwhile, Brian definitely could have won at any other time, on many different shows, but your right about Idol and other shows, they tend to follow the trending elements of their own show, which they in part create. If that made sense. Thanks Maggie. I moved! Living with the grandson.
It was already set that she was going to win before the show she was given the win she didn't even have to do anything because it was proven that Sony music paid for her win not really a fair win so anyone who has to pay for a win isn't really a winner at all Brian should have won hands down bottom line
@@robertboling9057 I just love a good conspiracy theory. I'll bet that you have a lot more of them.
@@robertboling9057 How many million people did Sony pay to vote for her?
that silence though... at the end... awestruck
Wow! Amazing performance!!!
Brian is just plain amazing! I've never heard a single performance of his that was anything less than wonderful. Loved your reaction.
Who/what should I react to next? Just for you: a FREE vocal course "Sing Better Instantly:" skl.sh/3aHdSuy and I would be honored for you to become my Patron: www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee Thank you so much for your support! 🤘🥳💖🙏
Have you reacted to Eva Cassidy? She may be the best singer of all time who never had a record contract. I would start with her cover of "Somewhere over the rainbow" which she performed live at Blues Alley. It was voted as one of the top 100 singing performances of all time in a British poll.
What a voice, stage presence and talk about breath control, wow, would rival the best and most seasoned professional singers. Such power and emotion, simply epic. He does a lot of covers from a lot of different artists that are arguably better than the originals, including this one. Just mesmerizing. But unfortunately he didn’t win the competition but has done well anyway.
Maggie, I think he looks familiar to you because he sings with Scott, Mitch, Mary Lambert and Mario Jose on Superfruit's cover of Rise.
Love him so much ❤
I found your channel about a week ago and I sub. I love you, you are so personable. I absolutely love your videos. You are the best.
Thanks for your comment! 🥰 Can't wait to see you in the chats on my livestream in 30 minutesy! 💟
Fun fact: Scott Hoying (PTX) tried out for American Idol... and they turned him down.
Goosebumps
I am a bit late to the game here but on your reference to these shows the ones (mostly who come in 2nd or 3rd place usually have deals and the first place people you hardly ever here from yet the other two have platinum records. For example Daughtry he was on one of these shows and ASKED to be voted off so he could join is now band as the lead singer. Other examples, One direction and Fifth harmony came in 3 both of them I believe. They already had record deals.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope to see you later today for my FUN Reactions Livestream?
He is amazing (you too)
Greetings from Germany
Everything he sings has been epic
Brian Justin Crum has two original songs: Bright and Circles. They are both beautifully done videos.
He was clearly the best singer. But a little 12-year-old girl who wrote her own original music and lyrics for the 4 songs that she performed on the show with a quirky delivery and an amazing presence and charm, beat him out in the end to win the show.
The Straight No Chaser version of this song is sublime.
I remember getting chills as I listened back in 2016 but I voted for Grace and not because of her age! Liken Bridge was also great that year. I’ve been waiting since then to see him live - still waiting…
Grace Vanderwaal won this season. She played a ukulele.
Would love to see your reaction to Laura Bertan one of the youngest Opera singer
This is amazing!!
He has an awesome future in music ahead of him.
Love your reactions sis. Brian is awesome
The Clairvoyants came in second that season, Brian was in fourth place.
Brian’s voice is a true gift from The Almighty 🙏. His version of any song he sings is outstandingly beautiful. They say, behind every great man is a great woman, and his mom certainly is his greatest supporter. Just from her interview, you can tell the ❤️ she has for her son and vice a versa. When singers take on an iconic song, it’s always a huge gamble. But if you can take that song, not only doing justice, but making it as great in their own way is the sign of pure genius. Artists cover iconic songs all the time, but 98% of them can’t even come close to making it sound like a great version of the classic That’s the risk. I’ve only heard a few songs where I felt the Artist nailed it. This is 1 of them. Other fantastic covers are Nine Inch Nails Hurt sung by Johnny Cash, Shinedown’s version of Simple Man by the LEGENDARY Lynyrd Skynyrd and Disturbed’s version of The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel. All are great. Even though Disturbed’s David Draiman sings really Heavy Metal, he was trained to be a Cantor in his Jewish Faith. When he sings songs that aren’t Heavy Metal, you can hear the unbelievable pipes (opera/Cantor) he truly has. He also did a great rendition of Genesis’s Land of Confusion.
Wow
He got robe, he should it been a big winner but is OK, his doing really great and he is amazing, I love him, ❤️ 😍 💖
Good one I love his take on the song and loved it during the show. It's really disappointing he did not win. But Gracg Vanderhal was awesome as well.
I am that people are overlooking this problem
this song fits so well with his backstory, i couldn't believe he lost either, not with that voice
BRIAN WAS GREAT BUT HE WAS BEATEN BY A 12 YEAR OLD GRACE VANDERWAAL, A 12 YR OLD GIRL THAT SANG ALL ORIGINAL SONGS (NORMALLY A KISS OF DEATH IN THESE COMPETITIONS) IMO THE JUDGES GOT IT RIGHT, GRACE WAS A PHENOM.
I think that you would really enjoy the band beast in black the singer yannis did a cover of ghost love score the only man I think who can do it justice
You should listen to his next song everybody wants to rule the world-its perfect-then he was kicked off-madness.
Great review Maggie!!! Why don't you sing it for us???❤
The silence at the end ! everyone drawn in to the emotion
This is my fav version of this song! Brian is a great singer. This was also the year Tapeface and Sofie Dossi competed. While having very different acts, these would have been my top 3 that year.
I absolutely love this performance. I can watch it over and over again and still get goosebumps. Please check out Britain's Got Talent's Alice Fredenham performing "My Funny Valentine". She's really good too. 😎👍
Brian Justin Crum, covered Creep, better than Radiohead ever could!!! Emotional & incredibly good!!
You look so stylish &, lovely. Great song
BJC, my future husband… he is amazing!
I remember when Brian lost, I was so angry, for him, because he totally deserved to win. The winner was a young girl, cute as a button, with a ukulele. She was good, but not accomplished by any means. Lots of promise for sure. But those talent shows are into sad stories, or a "narrative" to drive the show, instead of talent. Same thing happened to Chris Daughtry, Alice Fredenham (she performed an AMAZING version of My Funny Valentine, yet was dissed and almost thrown out of the competition), and Danyl Johnson (who RULED the stage with A Little Help from my Friends, acclaimed by all the judges, then blamed for being to confident - whatever - and kicked out.) It's a weird concept.
Grace did not have a sad story.
To hear his voice again, listen to Superfruit - Rise.
Another great reaction Maggie! For me though nobody beats the way YOU sing this song :D
Great reaction, I love the way he sings this song. He should have won!!
Thank you for your lovely comment. Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
Pelagea - oy da ne vecher .. reaction.. thank you very much.
Wonderful reaction, I hope you check out his other covers. His cover of Shallow is my favorite version of the song.
He has such a powerful voice....love this one!! Magie, I know how you love deep voices....please check out Geoff Castellucci's Shenandoah.....you will cheese muffin all over it lol
LOL! Thank you for your lovely comment and suggestion. 🤗💖 Would love to see you on Patreon www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee?
You could tell every single member of the audience went with him and the silence at the end indicated nobody wanted to come back. They wanted to stay on the journey with him. Oh, as for Hailey Reinhart, it was an amazing season on American Idol. The top ten or so were all killers. I really liked James Durbin. He didn't win either. Look up James Durbin singing Uprising by Muse.
I would like you as an opera singer to react to Matt Corby - 'Brother' (live for Like A Version) it will be one of the best you have heard Just like Brian
I would love to hear your thoughts on “Summer Moved On” by A-ha. Morten Harket had a worlds record (since broken) for the longest sustained note at 20.8 seconds. A more complex song than Take On Me. It was released in 2000.
Would you be interested in reacting to Eva Cassidy???? Any of her songs??
Can you believe he was beat out by a young girl singing and playing a ukulele?
❤
Please react to Skid row 18 & life live in moscow music peace festival 1989
This is a song I would love to hear Pee Wee Herman sing!
Late to the party here, but it still burns that a squeaky young girl (as cute as she was then), actually won over Brian. Disgrace. He stood out from everyone that season. To totally silence the usually noisy audience like that is magical. Spellbound, with three seconds of silence when he finished was huge. Just my take, folks.
This was America’s Got Talent, not American Idol.
Ohhh, have you seen Hua Chenyu's interpretation of "Creep"...it is...stunningly..........creepy!!
He came in 4th, Grace VanderWaal came in 1st.
The fact that he didn't win (like Adam Lambert) goes to show those shows are a load of bull. This is one of the best performances EVER
No they aren't a load of bull. Do you think Simon is going to put out all that money to produce these shows just to let a guy he can't make any money off of win? He lets singers appear on the shows so he can grab the Aguilera's and Taylor's before Sony or Columbia does and Brian has made squat in the 6 years since he's been signed
Hey Maggie Renee, I think you should react to Angelica Hale. She was first on AGT at the age of 9 and finished after she turned 10 years old. That was in 2017. She was so good even at that age. I think her best performance was Clarity which was the first live show performance but any of them would do. She also did a great rendition of Stone Cold at the age of 12.
Unfortunately, American Idol isn't about the BEST act, it's about the most POPULAR act... Each performer is "suggested" to come up with a dramatic backstory that the show can push, and the time limit of the acts limit how much singers especially can showcase. Add that to the "voting system" of the finals being put in the public's hands with an outrageous 10 votes per person and this dilutes the voting. I have a son who tried out 3 times for it and never got a call-back... He never got to the point of meeting the actual judges, nor did most of the 3500 acts that tried out on the days that he was there. I'm not comparing him to Brian Crum or any other of the "finalists" but singers are by far the largest share of people trying out and they have to fill a variety show. While there are not many "William Hung" acts any more, the best rarely win.
Thank you for your comment. Will you be there at my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream today?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Grace Vanderwahl won. She was 11 yrs old.
12-years-old when she auditioned for the judges. 11-years-old when she first auditioned at the cattle-call audition in New York.
