Stone athletic commissions won't sanction fights with huge gaps. NY won't sanction a fight with more than 40lb difference.

Honestly the ufc could make 265 + class if they really wanted the people saying theirs not enough athletes that size never played with or against athletic big guys in wrestling and football especially football theirs plenty out there I was one 1 of those played d2 ball at 350 and seen guys my size have more gas then the skill all the ufc gotta do is develop them just try and convince some of these mma gyms to bring in and develop these bigger guys for a couple years and move some the fighters they already have up that division cause theirs plenty of fighters on the roster who walk around 265 plus easy they just constantly gotta cut to make weight the ufc definitely can do it they just feel they don’t have to do it plus that’s just a knew pool of fighters Dana would have to pay and we all know how he gets with fighters pay i and a lot of us would love to see it but know it won’t happen unfortunately

There should be a 165 lb division. There should also be hydration tests.
Imagine how dangerous people like Connor and Tony would be Connor hydrated prolly make it 5 rounds of hurt you Tony hydrated I don’t want to see his opponent after that fight. I think these people need dehydration so they don’t kill in the ring 😂. These are just first two fighters I could think of around that weight that might be too scary for mma at 165 fully hydrated.

@@ihateusernamesgrrr It's not obesity... There are individuals who are built... I have a younger brother who is 6'4" 285 and has a 4 pack and runs a 4.7 40... He would have to cut for no reason. If you are 6'3+ and want to be built you would have to cut to make the class. Francis doesn't workout for size and sometimes has to watch his size. There are some huge dudes on the underground. If you are 6'0" + you should be a heavyweight if you have descent muscle. Freakin half the NBA would have to watch their weight and they are sticks

265lb is definitely not big. I haven't weighed that since I was a junior in high school. Did very well in football & wrestling as well. Trained mma for a couple years for fun. The 265lb cap kept me from ever thinking of it seriously.
Same, i love fighting but im at 295 and I'm far from my largest. The lowest i think i could cut to without gaining any muscle would be maybe 270, and id look like a model, not a fighter lol

Eddie and hafthor won't do mma, any hw who weighs in at the 265 limit could fight at super hw cause they'll be cutting weight to make it while lighter hws like Stipe can just weigh in at his natural weight

Mariusz Pudzianowski is a strongman that does MMA and cuts for 265. Francis also cuts to 265.

There definitely needs to be a super heavyweight class. People like Eddie Hall and Hofthor Bjornson are out there doing boxing matches next year and these are two of the world's strongest men and also huge. But also very capable of fighting I love to see Butterbean fight when he was fighting all this does is eliminate Talent that personally I would like to see.
Look at former WSM Pudzianowski in MMA, when he transitioned to MMA, he had all that extra muscle and he had bad cardio and he had tu cut them to be more athletic.

It doesn't exactly work like that thru the commissions tho. They have a Max out of how much two fighters weigh apart from each other.

I think moving the cap to 285 or even 300 would be a great idea, not enough guys for a whole new weight class tho. But for guys like Greg Hardy, Francis, Derrick Lewis for a while, Brock, etc. those have all had to cut to 265, some of them massive amounts. Heavyweight is all about a spectacle anyways, and people are only going to continue getting bigger, stronger and faster at those weights. Time for some change.

Lower Heavyweight to 235lbs or 240lbs, and add an uncapped Super Heavyweight where 241 and up becomes the super heavyweight class which has a legitimate pool of top tier talent at both of these weight classes, with the caveat that fighters cannot be separated by 50 or more lbs. at time of weigh in (as Chael has mentioned is already an existing technicality) to prevent the gong shows that used to happen in the early days.

Super heavyweight fights would either be first round KO's or a boring ass fight because both dudes get gassed early.
Depends your discipline and your cardio. Train up a NFL lineman to be fighting condition and hell have plenty of cardio still.

Honestly, I like to see more "fit" HW. Can't stand to see fat out of shape fighters go at it for 1 round and then just walk around the cage for the next 2/5 rounds. I actually would like to see the limit drop. Have the same weight limits as other weight classes.
I can see a guy like Nicolai Valuev 7'2 350 lbs who was a champion boxer. A guy like that except with high level grappling and kickboxing would be very hard to deal with. But why should he be prevented from competing? He was born with physical gifts just like other successful athletes. I say make the heavyweight limit 250 and bring in superheavy.

I like 265 as heavyweight. I don't see many 6'10 310lbs around in mma. I could see more guys 6"2 6"3 getting fatter and fatter and it makes the division look like your local bar fights with wall to wall Big Country Roy Nelson's. Obviously it's harder for guys to be roided out their minds with the drug testing in UFC so Karelin-like built fighters are not going to be a realistic scenario either.
I've been pitching super heavyweight for a meaningful period of time with two caveats: open weight, ban USADA
A super HW at first would just be a bunch of fat dudes winging haymakers at each other. If the UFC made that weight class, the first title shot would probably be Black Beast vs Francis and nobody needs to see that again

It would empty 155 and 170 which are amongst the most exciting weight classes

Or Usman and Woodley who’s physiques are giant for 170. And I think 165 speaks for itself, the amount of 155ers that bounced between 155 and 170 like Masvidal, Diaz, RDA, and Cowboy and so on. Don’t mean to get lengthy, but that’s just a few hand picked top contenders and Champions that could create so many new fights we will never see without the 165 division.

There's a bit of a chicken & Egg issue here. Of course we don't have names of people who would fill the "super heavyweight" bracket right now, because most people who really need that size aren't currently in the sport. The solution would be to doo what boxing does and just have the highest weight class unlimited so you don't exclude huge guys but still don't worry abut not finding enough guys big enough to fill the bracket.
Perfect example is David Haye vs Valuev!

IMO there just isn’t enough super heavy weight competitors to make it worth watching or competitive
Just looking at heavyweight as it is there's barely enough there, super heavyweight would probably be strongmen and sumo wrestlers that transition to mma
While this is kind of true in the sense that there isn't going to be a shit load of obese people competing, there is still plenty of fighters that walk around above the 265 limit and they are not fat at all. Ngannou has to cut for 265, so does Brock Lesnar, and Rumble Johnson was also over 265 for quite a while after he retired and it wasn't fat.
Then you've also got guys like Blaydes, Struve, Lewis, Hunt, Timothy Johnson, Big foot and Ben Rothwell who walk around above 265 at times. So technically, they could open the weight division more for heavy weight, i think a big reason it was capped had to with the fact that it was rewarding super obese people with no athletic ability but just sheer size on them. Which becomes kind of a circus show which a promotion like the UFC wouldn't want, but at the same time, they are the ones in charge of who they sign, so they don't have to pick up super obese fighters and have the power to cut a fighter at any given time if he's becoming a slob in his fights.

Yujiro Hanma can't participate... He is 300 lbs... There are some freaks on the underground who are built who can't compete. My younger brother is 6'4" 285 lbs... Yeah he could cut, but why when you already have visible 4 pack.
Mark hunt is a big guy... But he gets to maximize size while if he were 6'3+ he wouldn't...? No cap is the way to go.

I think heavyweight division should be open weight category. Still most of successful people in heavy weight will be around 240-250lbs. Guys bigger than that start to loose mobility and have cardio issues. How many guys that approach 265 were successful in ufc ?
Agree, in pride there was no limit in HW, and Fedor, Nogueira, Cro Cop, Coleman, Vovchanchan, Randleman were best and all of them were never 250+

Some commissions have a 40 lbs rule. So cro cop in his pride debut 215 lbs theoretically couldn’t fight hunt 295 in the USA.
atomweight has more than enough, what about One, rizin and invicta's atomweight division's and all their athletes? Oh and all the ufc strawweights that would be atomweights, like tecia torres cuts like 2 pounds to make strawweight she would definitely be an atomweight.

265 is a dumb cutoff. Should be like 300-400. It is it's own range, as a 6'5 guy in that range...I would like to fight. And all the "superheavyweight" fights are just very fat guys. Some of us can actually fight. But also Yarboro at 600 is not in my class. He would eat me.
