I was thinking four levels in eldritch knight fighter with the rest in college of swords bard for some regeneration and abilities that he uses at the end of the manga.
Every time I see something with Evil Dead and Mad Max, it always makes me wanna go and watch them all, this included. Just like Bruce Campbell, you are a king Tulok, considering that most of the characters you made this month either has multiple movies or like 500+ episodes to watch and research. Am kind of curious if you would have changed the build for Max if you could have used your Scavenger homebrew, but still a fun MAD build regardless.
Pretty close to my own Ash build, I just leaned more into Battle Master (only taking 2 levels of artificer for the chainsaw and boomstick). I appreciate that you recognized Ash's intelligence... the man is a hell of a mechanical engineer using found items.
Ash is such a challenging build! I've been waiting for, and am so grateful to see your take! I think you've made the best/most optimal possible build of him when it comes to getting his skill set and playing the game conventionally. Giving him an 8 Int, 8 Wis, and throwing in the Lucky feat somewhere is probably closer to the character - but then people would complain about him being unplayable. Never mind the fact that he is *meant* to be an unlikely, unready, unreliable all-around suboptimal hero who only disappoints people whose only successes aren't so much successes, as much as they are avoiding the worst of all possible outcomes by the skin of his teeth.
@B.H. Blankenship It's all very Red Green engineering (Red Green build when?), though. None of it SHOULD work, which makes me think they're well rolled luck dice.
Yeah Ash has a lot of different ways to build him. I gave him tools skills but no artificer. I made him as a warlock Tome due, wanted the necronomicon tie in. Past that I did fighter battlemaster. The eldritch blast was the boomstick and gunner feat for close quarters. I couldn't really find a good chainsaw solution so thematically used the blast for both since he mixes them together in the movie and show alot. Like you said a lot of ways.
Awesome work as always Tulok! If you're looking for a more obscure Intellectual Property to choose from would you take a look at Xcom 2? I'd love to see your ideas for the Chosen "Hunter". Can't wait to see what creative character you invent next!
Is your DM running a Descent into Avernus game? Mad Max build to play a retired Hell Rider. Taking a summer Vacay to Falkovnia from the Domains of Dread? Ash Williams for a guy from out of town. Also if you want the robo hand earlier in the build of Ash, Replicate Magic item allows you to recreate any common magic item. Prosthetic Limb is found in the back of Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and it replaces a lost limb like it's not missing. Bam... Er, Groovy.
Lever-action. That rifle Ash wields against that last Deadite in "Army Of Darkness?" It's a lever-action "cowboy" rifle. He even does the cool action-movie thing where you work the action with one hand, a maneuver called "sling-cocking."
What? Did you read my mind? Just last night I was watching your Noctis one going "Man. Too bad he doesn't have an Ash one. I hope maybe soon there will be one." And BAM! Lookie here.
Loved these builds! Ash has been a fave or a long time. Might need to watch some Mad Max. Might wanna play my own Road Warrior instead though. If only there were a subclass I could use (there is, it's the Scavenger ranger Tulok made, if you're reading this go watch that video too)
I'm mostly typing this to help with the algorithm, you're welcome, but considering that Ash's car in the equivalent of an old donkey and cart that he modifies to use for all of three or four minutes, I think the boom-stick is his more defining device and you should've gone artillerist before switching over to fighter.
For Ash, custom background is needed: smith's tools and alchemists supplies proficiencies instead of languages, trade Persuasion/History for Insight/Intimidate, and take the Heart of Darkness background feature (tbh the first movie feels like that is his background). He very obviously knows his way around the tools and can spot a hidden Deadite from a mile away but I don't recall him ever demonstrating polyglot skill or historical expertise, and people just don't listen to him if he's not screaming about a boomstick or otherwise impressing them. I'd also stick to pure Artificer for better saves, as I don't think those Maneuvers are, strictly speaking, worth it in this case as more than a feat (or two).
Why do you run the builds the way you do? For example, with Ash, you did a bunch of levels of Artificer, the couple levels of fighter, and back to Artificer. I'm curious from a metagame standpoint.
mind sharpener is actually even better than a reroll, you literally just spend a slot instead of losing concentration. just wish we got thunderwave or shatter, but Ash isn't much of an armorer or artillerist. DM says guns don't exist? infuse a steel pipe with thunderwave, shatter, hell even Catapult could work technically. You basically just invented guns, and the beauty of it is anyone can use it once it's loaded even without proficiency. is it the best use of spell infused item? probably not. is it funny? I think so. oh yeah, and if you have a homunculus servant, or steel defender hold the thing you can essentially use your bonus action to cast a spell that would normally take a full action, which is pretty nuts.
Hey new dnd player here I've always loved the evil dead moives and tv show and I was just wondering if there's a better class then artificer since I dont want to buy the 30$ Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything?
when everyone and everything is going south and the world upside down, you know the apocalypse is among us! even Tangle the lemur didn’t make it out when the zombot disaster happened (still would make a good build for a heroic standout to save your friends, Sir Tulok please?) so who do we call? Ashley Joanna Williams survived the advances of demons, mauling from monsters, frigging gravity and the madness of time travel, all while being a good musician! skilled in piano, cello and HIS BOOMSTICK!! surely would make for an entertaining surviving experience, but if the coolest chosen one is too much for you and you want a less supernatural, near death adventures or who-the-hay-is-he-alive? filled trip, The road warrior, "Mad" Max Rockatansky can be a good road trip partner to driving off-road and away from danger, a skilled survivor that can help you overcome any chaotic disaster even in the worst scenarios is a neat friend and a stellar getaway driver, but you might have to deal with the recuring insanity of the raging feral! But sanity is overrated, every adventurer in DnD is crazy, so get you a classic survivor kid with chainsaw included, a can of paint and be ready to make all WITNESS MEEE!!
@@apex2000 In the show, he does say that he was a slacker and was always busy at parties, but he was an engineering student, hence how he was able rebuild his car in the middle ages and create a prosthetic arm.
I'm only commenting because you put the character names and movie titles not in respective order and its killing me a tiny bit. But I will power through.
Ya know, describing Ash as a character that's survived 2 CoC campaigns and now has been ported to a D&D campaign feels so weirdly fitting
These two builds work surprisingly well together. Max can be the skill guy while Ash is the face. Also ash can hook max up with magic weapons.
Get Ash to make Max an Infernal Engine, give your DM the statblock for Jason and boom.
Descent into Avernus: Max & Ash vs Jason
@@williamaldred335 you keep talking.
And a car.
In all seriousness, I think a Beast Barbarian/Warlock could make a good Chainsaw Man build; the blades would just be claws.

No, Tulok is a barbrarian. It says so. Right there.
Pretty close to my own Ash build, I just leaned more into Battle Master (only taking 2 levels of artificer for the chainsaw and boomstick). I appreciate that you recognized Ash's intelligence... the man is a hell of a mechanical engineer using found items.
Interesting how much Santa and Ash's builds have in common.
All week I've been excited to witness this groovy double feature cant wait to find out more about this Max guy. Hope he's in a good mood
Man, he wasn't kidding about Max being M.A.D
Also, that Chainsaw Man reference on the Ash section was ... Groovy

Ash is an unbelievable mechanical engineer. You don't get that with dumped INT.
And despite all that, he still solos 😂

So glad to see this, I’ve been trying to build Ash for awhile but he always ends up too competent
There's the Ashley Williams build we were expecting!
i hope you can recover soon Tulok! amazing videos as always!
I love that this episode has 2 characters from my favorite films
If you are doing Bruce Cambell, can we get a Triple Feature with Sam Axe (AKA Chuck Finley), Micheal Weston, and Fiona Glenanne from Burn Notice
Fantastic takes on these guys! Get well soon Tulok!!
Gotta say, the puns were really on point for this video!
The Chainsaw Man theme song is so good, man.
Omg I’ve been looking everywhere for a good Ash build! ❤
Yessss Ash baby I've been waiting for him and his boomstick
thank you. ive been waiting for an ash build
Yassssss been waitin for Ash. I'm goin in Hexblade but prepared to be pleasantly surprised haha

Wait? M.A.D. Max? Is this the greatest mechanical translation of a character ever?
Both sound like a lot of fun!
Groovy builds

Also, shotguns! Shotguns are cool.
Finally, I can be the Jefe himself in D&D. Great vid
I just watched the first 2 Evil Deads two days ago so this is hilariously topical
Dude I love the thumbnail

0:38 perfection
I'm here because you didn't think this video would do too well because of the new thumbnail. So I'm here right away this time.
Now we need a Snake Plissken build & if you want to double...Jack Burton give s common thread!
Man I had to look away at 8:52 , was not expecting the eye squish there D:
>Ash
>Highest stat is INT
I know it's for d&d multiclassing but at the same time ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT
For the Battle Master dcs they can use your 19 strength from the gauntlets so they would still be pretty good if not perfect
Feel better, Phil
Hey Tulok, have you thought about doing characters from older series more often? Would love to see Darkman in D&D, personally
It's finally happened guys!
I appreciate the call out to Freddy v Jason v Ash that never happened
I'd love to see a build of John Smith from "I Am Number Four". Personally, I think it could be built with Psi Warrior Fighter and Lunar Sorcerer.
Finally some characters I know of
God I love Ash, the original chainsaw man and from one of my favourite horror (kinda?) movies
Could you make Sol Badguy from guilty gear?
Iets add jack-o too if possible
He takes commissions on his patreon

Damn. I expected max to be an artificer(for car, obviously)
I'm actually surprised you didn't go with Prosthetic Limb with an Armblade boosted with Enhanced Weapon for Ash.
Someone send this to Bruce Campbell!
Groovy vid.
Max is mad because he’s crazy. Not because he’s angry
The doubled barreled shotgun builds . droll.
Hey new dnd player here I've always loved the evil dead moives and tv show and I was just wondering if there's a better class then artificer since I dont want to buy the 30$
Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything?
before watching I'm REALLY curious how you're gonna do a chainsaw hand.
Ash was the ORIGINAL Chainsaw Man. Ask your DM to make all short rest areas S-Marts.
Ash either has a sadistic DM or really unlucky dice

Probably a weird request, but what about reuniclus from pokemon?
I am surprised you didn't do "good Ash" and "Evil ash". Just do a necromancer dip.
Welp, guess I've gotta run a post apocalypse game now 😆😆
Could you do Durza from the Eragon book series?
You should 100% do Kakuzu and Hidan from Naruto, super dynamic duo and build potential
Just realised. Ash Williams is basically a more badass Power Ranger (reference Tulok's Power Ranger build, go watch)
Honestly I imagined a vastly different build for Ash, but given his science feats. When he not slacking off or shooting something.
@@apex2000 In the show, he does say that he was a slacker and was always busy at parties, but he was an engineering student, hence how he was able rebuild his car in the middle ages and create a prosthetic arm.
Another great reason to make them in the same video is that they both like shotguns
Wait, can’t Battlemaster’s manoeuvres use strength to set their save DC? Which, with Ash having ogre power gauntlets, is 19?
It's 8 + Proficiency Bonus (6 at LV 20) + STR Mod (4 from Gauntlets)
8 + 6 + 4 = 18
@@ChuckUFarley90 yeah no as in he has 19 STR with which to set his save DC
HELL YEAH ASH WILLIAMS

Ray Steam from SteamBoy, any ideas?
Feel better, dude! You gotta get aome rest too
Can you make accelerator from the anime Toaru Majutsu no Index series
Can you please make Laurence the first vicar

Can you do Tetsuo from Akira
Build jevil and spamton
D4c when?

how bout "make deadites re-dead"?
Farscape?
Wow, Max is MAD...
My favorite part about Ash, maxed Int. I know it's needed for artificer, but he's an idiot
Intelligence should be Ash's dump stat tbh
Of all the things, Ash is not - it is Intelligence 15.
How can you do Max and Ash and still justify not doing Flash Gordon???
I'm only commenting because you put the character names and movie titles not in respective order and its killing me a tiny bit. But I will power through.
Bonus, making Max part Barb works b/c Mel Gibson is fucking loony toons
Jeez. You okay buddy? Do you need to maybe take a month off?
Sweeney Todd in dungeons and dragons🎉
"deaderites".
Come on, man.
