    They were bloody brilliant! The 'novelty' value of their persona will always be remembered but they were damn good musicians, all of them, and their lyrics were often quite insightful- 'Living in the 70s' and 'Horror Movie' for instance.
    I miss Shirl- gone too soon x.

      ‘Love on the Radio’ and ‘Carlton’ are both fine pieces of musicianship. The novelty value and dirty lyrics got us in, but we’ve stayed for the music all these five decades.
      Five decades. Fuck.

    Such memories...Skyhooks - yeah! Benefits of being tall and looking older than I looked allowing me to sneak into a pub underage. Blue eyeshadow. Treads. Fluffy ducks. Kaluha and milk. Vodka and OJ. Malibu and Coke.... Great laughs and fun times. But now I understand the lyrics to some of the songs... Oh dear! Lol!

    First time I saw Skyhooks they were the backup band for Matt Taylor's release of his Brisbane To Beechworth album at the Wangaratta Town Hall.
    We were all pretty stoned and we were suddenly met with the full force of the original Skyhooks from before they had to 'tone it down a bit' for the mainstream.
    I still remember the about 10 minute drum solo that still echoes in my head.

    I went to one of these first reunion shows, in Melbourne at Festival Hall, this looks like it might be from those shows. OMG I was so excited because I was too young to see them at pubs etc when they first appeared but I was just besotted with them.
    I still love them! But now, as an older person and professional musician I get to rewatch, re-admire and understand better the amazing musicianship of each member of this quintet that was summed into the brilliant music (and theatre of this band).
    Another bonus of being older and a musician is that I can have my own private and personal experience and greater appreciation through learning how to play Skyhooks songs. Here is my acoustic version of the Skyhooks song, Carlton. I hope you enjoy it! @0aEA

    Skyhooks. The cover of a Juke magazine had Kiss on the cover and the headline read- Kiss America,s Skyhooks? For once we thought we were better than the imports! Great band that wrote the soundtrack to Australian Culture!

    • @52Rambler
      @52Rambler 3 года назад

      And how did that work out for them. Right, pretty much only known in Aus, LoL.

    • @michaelmarshall1713
      @michaelmarshall1713 3 года назад

      @@52Rambler I think you have missed the point completely ? The fact that Kiss were new and they were being compared to Skyhooks ( meaning Skyhooks were the measuring stick ) was cool. There are many that did not catch the USA but that is okay as most Australian Bands are far better than the Yanks .

    • @52Rambler
      @52Rambler 3 года назад

      @@michaelmarshall1713 LMAO, never missed the point at all. Juke magazine a aussie rag mag that's a never was. Juke comparing Kiss to the Skyhooks is like comparing a $800 bottle of wine to a 95 cent bottle. Yep the Skyhooks sound just like that cheap bottle of wine would taste like, VINEGAR. LoL, the Skyhooks were the measuring stick,, the most deluded and funny thing l ever heard.. Yeah that measuring stick of the Skyhooks was very short, many many other Australian bands was meters ahead of them. The only real good band from Aus is AC/DC and three of the band members (Young) brothers and Bon wasn't even born there but in Scotland,, bahaha. You are right on one point, not many bands caught on in yank land, "BECAUSE NOBODY LIKE THEM". Like when the Skyhooks did their U.S. tour and was boo'ed off stage as an opening act. And BTW mate, I'm not American,, just sayin.

    • @michaelmarshall1713
      @michaelmarshall1713 3 года назад

      @@52Rambler Whatever is wrong with you is no little thing . Skyhooks were great band and musically more taleneted than Kiss (I am a Kiss Fan) but Juke and Ram were for The Australian Music Fans . AC/DC formed in Australia and yes Bon and the Young Bothers from Scotland . But Phil and Mark Australian . The yanks dont understand authenticity.

    • @52Rambler
      @52Rambler 3 года назад

      @@michaelmarshall1713 LoL, The Skyhooks more talented then Kiss, rotflmao think record sales of gold and platinum albums and #1 singles beg to differ on that.. And another deluded comment, the yanks don't know authenticity.. Hmm pretty much every band past and present in almost every genre has had to go to America to make it big. Some make it some don't,, and The Skyhook didn't.. LoL, record companies in the U.S. knew they would never sell them to the world masses except for some minor local city following in Aus and that they was nothing more then a joke/circus show (yeah the aussie fans and mags really helped with that eh). LoL, yeah guess the world wasn't ready for the great Skyhooks with the lame cringy lyrics and lead singers weird voice that sounded like he tried to jump a fence in the outback and got his balls hung up on the fence wire.. Do you know the meaning of the word "logical",, if you do then you may want to use it in your thought process,, just because you like a band/singer don't mean their the greatest or the best. Trying to debate with you is a waste of time,, keep dreamin mate.

    @MazterGuitarz Re Mercedes ladies - to my knowledge as a single that was US only. It was a gr8 track though . (as were all on the debut album ) Their lyrics were of the wall and funny. America had Flo and Eddie and Zappa and Yankovic we had The Skyhooks- ( and yes - Daddy Cool. ) Yes ABBA made it here - but for I think 24 weeks - Livin was the N0.1 national album. Replaced only by Ego . Go figure. Cheers for posting
