right? Happy Everything... then everyone else gets their "special day" ours is just lumped in with the holiday celebrations. bah humbug. but I'm determined to embrace it this year....
I’m excited for you! I used to love Christmas when I was a kid! My dad made it so fun, even though we had a very large family and very little money, my dad made sure we had traditions. He would always buy nuts in the shell and I loved trying to crack them to get the nut out. We rarely had oranges, but at Christmas he made sure there were oranges and there was always one in the toe of our stocking on Christmas morning. As we got older and my mother spent more time enjoying when we didn’t get along it lost its magic and became a day for everyone to bicker. I still struggle with finding the joy in the season now.
Oh girlfriend same! It's much harder to find the joy now. One thing Ali Edwards wrote made me think "magic is something we make" and it really made me stop and realize that the joy starts with ME. We also had the shell-on nuts at Christmas, huge tradition in the UK.
@ yes Joy definitely starts with me! That is so wise. I was actually kinda thinking of dipping my toe back into the Christmas spirit this year, but with hubby and all the stress and huge learning curve that we are embarking on, I’m not sure I have that in me this year. I’m focusing on being grateful that he is well and we are working together to do better.
My mom's was Jan 4th and she got the combo gifts as well. I have a couple of friends born on Christmas Eve and Day. One year I was the only one (including her family) who sent one of my friends JUST a birthday card (not a combo!). I make it a point to send separate cards for that very reason to my December birthday folks. Haven't caught on to the December Daily train yet but look forward to seeing your progress!
EXACTLY! People just think of the birthday as an afterthought... oh yeah happy birthday too. So annoying. But this year I am doing the holidays AND my birthday! Plus this is a big reason why I celebrate my half birthday! lol.
You and my youngest daughter share a birthday. My husband is a Christmas Eve baby. I have always made sure their gifts are in birthday paper and birthday cards are not Christmas themed. My husband grew up celebrating in a similar fashion as you. We all deserve to celebrate our special day separately from other holidays. I think your December plan is a good idea. 👍🏻
exactly! I think once you have a december birthday family member speak out it makes sense, but so many just don't even see it as a problem! Hope you have fun things planned with your hubby this birthday!
Lol, cant beat them, might as well join in!! What took you so long? 🤪 I have done December magic from july through january with my job for years, so now i am grinchmas!! Kids have moved out to different states or are busy with their age group. I enjoy the quiet now but the memories are great. ⚾️
hahahaha I know right! I did prep day today and created my contents page which I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE! Thoroughly enjoying playing with my stash. I've played with paper, cardstock, stamps, vinyl, felt and my cricut.
In our family we open most gifts on Christmas eve. Our tradition is to have everyone leave the living room, while my husband lights tons of candles. Then he plays some Christmas music (from our playlist) and everyone enters a room full of candle light and Christmas tree light. It's magical. We also take turns opening gifts, with the youngest going 1st. We've always avoided everyone opening gifts at once. This way, we focus on each person and their joy as they open a gift before moving on to the next.
we used to do the same thing with gifts when I was kid, hence that if it was a "joint gift" it was annoying it part birthday/xmas. Love the candle tradition though!!!!! Thanks for sharing
We were all sick last year over Christmas and before so we didn't even get the tree put up! I was very sad about that and we didn't get to see family last year either. We all usually do a Dirty Santa gift exchange where everyone brings a $5 gift and we each get a number for how ever many of us are doing it and draw a number and you can either pick a gift from the table or steal someone else's ! It's a blast and everyone has fu with it! 😆 Our girls are 20 and 25 and I miss when they were little but we still try to do something fun.
Oh man sorry you had a crappy sick christmas last year. Funnily enough that's something else I remember as a kid, always being sick either birthday or christmas (usually tonsilitis, bronchitis or something similar). We call that white elephant gift exchange. Usually best at large parties.
I’m a Xmas baby too - 23rd. My annoyance is the “Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday, Happy New Year” combo cards. Along with all you mentioned.

It maybe obvious, but when we enter the candle lit livingroom all the lights are off. @CreativeKarmaDesign

My husband has the same birthday issue. We put our tree up in honor of his birthday with special events planned to celebrate
that's awesome, and definitely what I am trying to do this year. Make it inclusive rather than overshadowing my birthday
