Dear all, I am so amazed you all seem to enjoy the video. I play tennis and i thought this kind of view is well appreciated by tennis fans as it allows to get a better understanding of the work done by the pros. Having the GOAT for sure is appreciated. Now i can see that many wonder who is the playing playing with Roger, I am sorry but I have no idea. With more than 1M views, i am sure he has seen the video, so please let me know who you are ! Maybe Roger can help also, who knows, he might also has watched the video. I asked him on tweeter but he did not answer! All, please share the word and we will know who got so lucky playing with RF.

Looks like Thomas Enqvist by the strokes. Federer knows him well. Earlier in their careers, Enqvist simply overpowered Federer. In 1999 Enqvist was in the top 5 ATP while Federer was just arriving on the scene. Huge talent. He still dominates the Senior Tour events he plays.

In tennis, the warm-up is done playing, so at the beginning the movements cannot be sudden, in those hits a lot of the force is given by the swingweight of the racket, in this case its 350 gr racket. As it heats up, the force and rhythm and speed of the ball increase.

Fed holds the racquet on the very end of the handle. Part of his hand is off the but of the racquet handle. I noticed Fed almost never backs up, he stands his ground and adjusts to each ball. Sometimes he hits half volleys instead of backing up. The way Agassi used to.

Just to give you an idea of the skill level here, Roger and his hitting partner (I think Thomas Enqvist, or maybe Magnus Norman) hit 24 balls from 2:41 to 3:11. That’s at a 48 balls per minute rate. When I hit with D1 College kids we average 35 balls (successfully struck) per minute. Those balls are really hit. Each of his forehands equals my biggest “go for broke” forehand, and I will likely never reach his backhand pace with mine. Now look how effortlessly Federer does this. It’s amazing 🤩, astonishing!

if you consider he practices 6-8 hrs a day + does some gym work in addition to that fitness and endurance....that is your answer....that is what it takes. takes practice and time, kids at around 14-16 will do similar for warmup and practice....maybe the shots wont be so hard but they will do it in similar fashion so its doable just requires time, patience, coach and dedicated partner at same level....

Does anyone know what he is saying from 0:35 to 0:50? Just from the rally, I assume he is telling the hitting partner to change something?

Not only that, spinning is an habit some players use to keep the hand loose and not grip too tightly

This video must be more than 6 years ago reason being he's still using the smaller frame pro staff 95 or 97 as he changed to the bigger head frame in mid 2013

I wonder if Roger looks himself up on YoutTube sometimes to see highlights of his own matches. Especially now after he retired.

TV networks need to use this angle for tournaments. I can't stand watching with that insanely high angle they use. It takes all the character out of each shot because you can't see the spin and shape like you can with this angle.
