Awesome, thanks for putting this together for us noobs 😀. After it's all said and done for you, any other suggestions in regards to the hump or seat? Great channel btw. Greetings from SoCal 🤙
love the idea of that challenge "1200 dollar budget cafe racer"
Thank you for your comment and yes I'm looking forward to It, the response to do this build is overwhelming :)
Low budget Scrambler would be awesome!
Wow dude, I can't believe the number of comments I have had On this video about the scrambler build, Thank you for your vote and comment :)
+1 on the Scrambler build and congrats on the fiberglass work. Subcribed. Awesome!!!
I have a fiberglass shop and I got a few tips from your video. It is always good to see how others go about the process.
Id love and tips brother, I'm always learning and I will never stop :) Im all ears :)
A challenge video would be awesome !
Thank you Brody, I think you are right :) I'm hoping it does get a lot of interest so I get to build it :)
Low budget challenge is a GREAT idea!
great idea with finding the equivalent items so folks can do this job with a quick shopping trip.
YES!!!!! To the tracker build! 😀😀😀
Yes. Go cx. Also, nice job with the fiberglass.
YES! Do the CX 500 build. Please!
Its looking positive thus far :) Thank you for your comment :)
Do IT ! Low budget Scrambler !
Fantastic job. Looks great
Tracker/scrambler project would be awesome.
Thank you mate I'm up to 15 yay comments so far so that is cool
This is an amazing video I’m using this to make a carbon fiber cowl for my XSR900 anniversary. I have a second subframe so I think I’ll make a chipped down cafe tail for it as well!
Im probably going to follow this process when i build my seat hump
gianluca spinosa any questions just ask :)
Do the CX! The CX650C is my favorite model. I have four, one being a parts bike. The first one I did as a solo seat tail dragger done in OD green with red wheels and white wall tires. Basically, a WWI bi-plane color scheme...complete with bullet hole decals. Get compliments on it all the time. They are just great bikes. I'm doing a CX500 right now, but it's being built for a friend. I would really enjoy seeing how you would redo the CX500!
Yes I'd be keen to see you change your CX500 into a Tracker / scrambler for sure!
Ian Anderson thank you Ian it’s looking good thus far and loads of interest in this build:)
yeay for your the budget scrambler.
Marshall Marque it’s starting very soon :) thank you for your comment
A Scrambler would be sick! These videos are awesome. You and Combustion Junction have inspired me to play around with my GS 1100 once it is registered. Keep up the good work.
Mick, Port Macquarie
Yes to the challenge. Sounds good.
Ok thank you for the vote, It's looking like a positive thus far :)
Nice job.
Yes please. Great idea. Looking forward to view your build before I start mine..
78 CX500, bought with rear frame chopped by previous owner.
Kevin Martin thanks Kevin I have a stock 78 CX500 as well, it’s going to get the Cafe Racer Chop :) you will see it in tomorrow’s video :)
The cx should easily be able to make tracker or scrambler out of. the real deciding factor is where you buy parts, what brand you buy and how much work you do yourself vs. buying bits. I would really like to see this type of video since I am currently building a mild tracker/brat 1982 CX500 C.
YES for challenge video
Yeah...big time. I just bought a CB 400F that I will have to make pretty as well!!! :)
zimba599 sounds good, thank you for the comment, it’s looking like a yes, I’ve been flooded with comments about doing it :)
Yay to the scrambler
Yay on low budget scrambler
I would love to see that scrambler build!!!!
Wayne Martinez thank you for letting me know, it’s looking like a positive so far
I'm all for budget builds, make the CX dream live!
Justin Brown thank you Justin I hear you and thank you for your vote towards the next possible build :)
Love to see the CX project, mostly just because they've been done to death as a cafe racer and I'm itching to see something different. A tracker would be an awesome project.
Matthew Wright thank you Matthew :)
Definitely on the cx challenge.
Brice Loyd thank you Brice, it’s looking good so far, I’m so overwhelmed by the amount of positive comments on doing this cx build 😊
Great video and thank you!
Do you need to apply a layer of wax to the mold before applying the gel for final product? I don’t see that on your video and looks like you applying the gel without any wax or easy remover layer? Also you using a blue/ greenish liquid (10:46) after you sing gel? What’s that? Thanks again
Same question here
Hey I just had a question about your process. What is the blue liquid you use before you lay the fiberglass in the mold? I have my plug made just wanting to make sure I don’t mess anything up. Also I saw you had a waterproof rubber cement in your list, what is that used for?
I was wondering about both of these same things lol. It looks like a greenish liquid, but I'm not sure what it is.
Do the scrambler build. That would be some great content.
Ok Calvin its looking like a positive so far :)
The best episode so far! can't wait to see the final product of the hump! Cheers mate!
thank you so much, ma man that means a lot to me :)
ya it sounds cool
Yes thank you, to the CX500 build!
Bogi Jónsson thank you Bogi I appreciate you letting me know. It’s looking good so far :)
Hey great project, and A1 vid, i have subscribed! Here is a thought. Why not turn the engine around 90° in the frame so it becomes slimmer and can then also convert direct to chain drive 🤔
Just build the cx mate! Loving the build everyday! Your doing better that a lot of pros! Hats off 👏 👏 👏 👌
Nuno Cox thank you so much mate ;)
I’m just doing my thing and sharing it.
Love the comments :)
Looking great mate. Can’t wait for part 3 👍
Josh Panton thank you Josh ;)
very informative as always. KNOWLEDGES GAIN!!!
Thank you T Phas, You always say such nice comments :)
Let’s see the scrambler build!
Hi Luke Thank you for your comment and vote, Its looking positive so far :)
You could use some acetone to melt away the foam plug from the fibreglass body
Nice video, another method is to make your foam model, go to a fablab, 3d scan it and 3d print it.
JM what the heck! that is awesome. 😊 I don’t know much about 3d stuff but I do know a guy that could help me with that :)
Cafe Racer Garage: yes indeed you should look into it. I did mine with a fablab (a free place full of technology like 3d printer and 3d lasers): 3d scan your model (or take a few pictures + fusion software, free). and then you can 3D print a plastic base (or 3D laser cut 3mm wood parts for the base) & 3D laser cut polyurethane (hard plastic foam like yoga mat) to make the hump. Cheers ;)
Great work. Love how you made that poly saddlepan!
Thank you my bike building brother :)
In my head I'm saying compressed air mate........ Nek minut. Great job !!!!!
Paul Bull haha that’s funny, yeah it worked very well I was surprised 😮
Thanx for the comment
Yea! Scramble that CX!
Thank you for the comment and vote Psycrow :)
Hi I was sent here from 'Classic Octane' . Like your work.
I'd like to make the seat of my Zx10 a solo seat, do you think I could make something like this, but using the seat itself as a mould.
Maybe by covering the seat with cling film, or do you think it would damage the seat?
Cheers
Looks great! You have a talent for thinking outside the box. +1 for the CX
Vote excepted and thank you so much. Its amazing to get comments like this.
Really great video! I wonder how difficult would it be to shape a front fairing using the same method... Also hell yeah everyone would be interested in another build! Especially if it's a low budget build that makes you think more outside of the box.
Thank you Allcartuner I think any shape is posable with fibreglass, I think is going to be a positive on the scrambler tracker build so far :)
That sounds like an interesting challenge. As I seem to have fallen into a financial spiral with my current project.
Another great video man, enjoying your build! Can't wait to get mine looking like a bike again!
Built By The Hand thank you mate, yes I know that feeling but building them is half the fun right :)
Cafe Racer Garage so true, already have ideas for the next one.
Awesome work once again Dan. I think the scrambler tracker project would be great 👍👍👍 keep making the videos mate and I will keep watching
Thank you Colin I plan on making better videos over time so not only will I build bikes but I plan on being the best at what I do :) Tracker Scrambler looks like it maybe a yes.
hey mate, I absolutely love the videos, and are about to try it out myself. I was wondering about the gel-coat. Do you put the fiberglass and polyester on the gel-coat when it's still wet, or do you let it cure?
Regards!
Did you ever try this? What's the answer?
Top Job mate !! Really impressive, well done..
Paul Mcgeown thank you Paul, comments like this make the sharing process worth it so I thank you more for taking the time to let me know you are enjoying them and getting something from them :)
Question mate. Before you lay the glass it looks like you paint on another coat of what you call flow-coat (gel coat w/wax). Do you add hardening agent to that coat and do you let it dry prior?
Yes I want to see that
Hey mate,
Really good video. The only thing that I do not understand is why you didn't use mold that you get in first place (10:20) but instead you lay few more fibre glass layers inside that mold and then removed new shell from inside and you end up with two almost identical parts ( 11:19)?
Cheers
Would love to see the video of a scrambler build! Looking forward to seeing it
Olie Burton thank you mate, so far I think I may take on the scrambler/ tracker build challenge, looks good :)
Cafe Racer Garage Nice! It would be good to see. $1200 budget doesn’t seem like a lot. How much do you think your up too on your bike at the moment? I’m half way though a xs650 build and have spent easily 2K GBP. I have got with a M-Unit Blue and some other fancy bits that really added up.
Olie Burton I really don’t know how much the 750 has cost me but I have kept all receipts to add up at the end. $1200 is a low budget and I guess it will be a massive challenge. :) xs650 would be fun to work on, what style you going for?
Yeeeee... go for it. Nice job
Thank you mate :)
my favorite video so far. really good work! would love to see a series of the cx build
Love your work, and it would be great to see the CX build!
Great job! Good instructional video. Keep it up 👍
Thank you so much mate, I love to know I'm helping, any questions just ask
Love the videos, keep them coming. Interested in more builds in the future too
Hi Travis I have plenty to come and I aim to improve my video quality as much as posable, so stay tuned and thank you for the amazing comments :) its the comments that really keep me going :)
Great job!
Thank you Tom, I may need to add your handy work to this build as well :) wish you had a business or something for me to shout out. Hows the logo designing going?
What did you place in the middle of the seat. Between the 90 degree metal side pieces to be able to have a flat surface to fiberglass
Great vid buddy and yes to the cx500 👍🏻
Leith thank you neighbour 👍
Nice work mate! :-) A friend of mine made a hump out of an old helmet. Out with the interiour and cut it into shape. Nice idea!
Of course we would like to see you make another bike! If you feel about those wheels on the cx as I do, they have to go. But no worries, keep the hubs! Yes, those "spokes" are bolted on. So instead of those ugly stamped pieces of sheet you make 2 rings that fit on the hub. On the outer fringe of that ring you make holes for proper wire spokes and a rim to fit! Works fine! Makes sense? :-)
A Scrambler to travel all the Baja.
Irak Marin that’s a big adventure lol 😂
You've got loads of talent mate well done on your build so far, A CX scrambler build would be amazing 👍
Henley Higgins thank you so much you are very kind 😊 it’s the comments like this that keep me going. Thanks for the vote on the Sctambler build, I’m hunting for some cheap parts at the moment for it :)
An official YAY vote for the $1200 CX build.
Thank you Scott :)
Build the scrambler!
Really enjoying the Vid's. I would love to see if you can do a $1200 build on the CX
Thank you B Rap I will work towards that CX Challange if enough people show interest, Thank you for the nice comment
Nice work, be good to see the cx scrambler build 👍🏻
Ryan Mills thank you for letting me know Ryan. Stay posted:)
I,d watch a series on a $1200 or close rebuild thanks mate.
Your so amazing dude..
Thank you mate, I hope you got something from the video :)
At 7:10 would a heat gun applied to the wax per coat work to fill in the pores of the plug ? Nothing too aggressive heat wise, just enough to smooth the surface for the next coat.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is the stuff you're putting on at 8:17? Also, what is the blue stuff at 8:30, the green stuff at 8:57, and the orange stuff at 9:02? I assume the orange is the resin/epoxy, is that right? Thanks for these great videos!
it would be cool to see that $1200 bike challenge
Richard Ricketts I’ve now started it and first video will be coming soon👍 It’s going to be a massive challenge that’s for sure 😬 I love a challenge tho
Great video as per usual. I would love to see a scrambler build, you’ve definitely got the skills to do so and if you do I’d recommend adding the price up each episode. Keep up the good work👍🏽
Charlie Power great idea and thank you 😊 for the comment Charlie.
Hi there.... I saw the full process and I got the following Idea, that probably you could build it for me... I have a 1978 CB750F super sport and instead of converting it the whole bike into a cafe racer, I rather keep it original, as much as I can, but with a custom touch, and this is where you come in place.
I would like to use a factory seat and build a cafe racer tail on the rear part of the factory seat, and marry it to the factory cowl, and be able to utilize that space as an additional storage area, and the front part of the seat, would be "factory".
Any thoughts??
Please confirm.../Thank you
What is the foam material you use for shaping? I have something that looks similar, but not so easy to shape
Great process you took us through so far in this, Dan ... and I’d be in favor of the build as well. Would be a great additional learning process for me personally. Cheers. Getting cooler there yet?
thank you Gary, Yeah is not too cold just yet but its coming, I always look forward to your comments on me videos :)
I dont think you have missed one yet lol ;)
Cafe Racer Garage - I am just an eager, slow-learner here, Dan! 🏍👍🏍
Please make the scrambler video, it would be very interesting.
Mr 0. Ok 👌 thank you for your comment brother :)
Hi what do you call of that tool used to smoothen the fiber? The roller like tool thanks for noticing
Coming along nicely mate
Can't work out why I missed this comment, Thank you Andy, I really enjoy your videos too :)
Great vid, what a process. Sub'd 👍🏼
A challenge build and riding adventure! Please do! That sounds awesome! (Dirt Every Day style)
So cool to know you will enjoy the whole process, Ive been planning the camping adventure trip with my good friend before the build has even started lol. I hope to start the build soon
Not a fan of the cx500 engine configuration but anything to keep the content coming and always enjoy the fab work
That is a very dam honest comment and I respect that brother. I love the fact we are so different yet still love riding :) plenty of fab work to come ma man :)
Hey man. Would love you see you building a tracker out of the CX! Love the vid's.
Mark Chaloner thank you Mark, I will do a little more research but it’s looking good so far :)
What’s the white stuf you use? I see on your list it’s a gelcoat. But you
Use it after the release wax?
It’s flow coat or gel coat
Can you recommend any sander like the one you are using?
At 8:30 ish did you put the gel coat over the layers of wax? Did you let the gel coat dry before putting the fibreglass sheets over it?
swinp22 yes the gel coats goes on after wax and you can apply the matt sheets as soon as the gel coat get touch.
Hope that answers the question, 👍😊
Build it!
Thank you Bryan :)
Do the Srambler build!
cx500 build would be awesome
beardnbiker thank you for letting me know :) it’s look good so far :) sooooo many comments
Scrambler!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Peter, thank you for the comment and vote :) how are your boys doing?
Cafe Racer Garage all good man. Work and baseball has us bogged down. We are going to watch your new video together tonight. Keep it up. Love them!!!
Peter Kowalinski thank you Peter for your support and comments ;) means a lot
I have a question regarding your merchandise. Do you ship to the Philippines?
Great video! I'm in the middle of a seatpan build myself. No prior experience with this part of my build. Question... What would be the potential downside of simply making your initial mold the final piece c working on smoothing the outside rather than the inside? I have a boatbuilder friend who I've been debating this with and would love your thoughts. Keep up the great work!
Great Question and I have the answer for you in part 3 next Sunday. short answer is yes, you are correct tho, it's posable to just smooth the outside and have that as your final part, I just wanted to show the full process. any questions just ask.
Please do the CX500 it would be a great project.
Alan Bratton parts are arriving for it now :) having trouble finding an 18” wheel for it tho. The search is on. Thank you for your comment and vote Alan :)
