I missed how you calculate the score
I found it
Just over 87 was my last score on this.
I just started working at my local county jail. I’m going to get the guys together from my shift at the range and do this test to compare. Seems like a fun “guys day”.
Looked like fun to me. Gotta love the sound of freedom. lol. Thanks, John.
John: shoots the ASP 10-Round Skill Challenge cold.
Also John: Okay, I'm gonna give myself that one...
Doesn't Neil have to give you that one?
I am running the line.
Lol!! Come on Correia!!! In all seriousness, he’s way harder on himself that I ever could be.
Brad Emerick oh John is very hard on himself so him giving one is all good
Excellent video. Once again John and colleagues showcase the brilliance of practice. I have noticed an improvement on the range outdoors from dry-fire indoors.
Great video 👍
Sweet sounds of freedom 🇺🇸👍🏻👊🏻
Great drill thank you sir for all the knowledge and skills you teach us!
Glad it was helpful!
I've ran this drill quite a bit. My scores range between 60-80. It's VERY challenging to score 75+. Keep in mind that I built my own shooting range, and I train 1-3 days a week. Do yourself a favor, and don't cheat on it.
Thank you- I like that diagnostic challenge
Any time!
Great video guys...this would be an interesting drill with my CZ75d, but i think i would do decent enough!
Def gonna do this at the range. And taco crapplaro lol love it
Hey good on you for putting yourself out there without chopping in your best run of the day. People love to post their warmed, up 300 rounds in, Instagram fodder, as if that's an accurate picture of their skills cold walking down the street.
I prefer to show the real vs the best. :)
Is the guy in the orange shirt a new shooter? Just curious bc of his draw.. or is he doing one handed to work on that?
Wow, that cat has ridiculous recoil control. Now I'm jealous.
John seems like he would be a GREAT instructor to train with !
I sure try to be.
Craptackulara !! 😂 good shooting overall!
Loved this Skill Check, great one to do cold!
Good stuff!
Thanks!
Hey John, training issue, the bald guy in the orange shirt, one hand should clear cover garment, shooting hand should draw gun, trying to clear garment and drawing gun with the same hand is slowing him down by 1-2 seconds and it’s prone to fumbles and sloppy draws
PROTIP on being an instructor: one lesson at a time.
Great video!
Question: Now that has entered a stage where masks are a part of everyday life, how does that affect the deployment of OC spray in a conflict? Does this situation change how it's used and where it's aimed? Does it weaken the effectiveness of OC spray?
It really doesn't affect a good OC, though it's worth considering.
Dave is the man!!
Shot this one stone cold the last two days out of curiosity. Would have liked a little better scores, but not going to complain. 55 and 53, respectively.
Although I shoot on IDPA targets, not IPSC.
Hey man, anything over 50 is great. Professional level.
@@ASPextra I was surprised at how high the score was with the points I dropped and draw times. Definitely see where there is room for improvement, but do not feel inadequate. Most of the time.
John, is this a private class your teaching or just a few friends that joined you at the range that day?
Both. This is me and ASP CMO Neil goofing around.
Active Self Protection Extra love it guys, next time there is a private/public class with you guys. Let us know! I live in Gilbert and have been to C2 Scottsdale previously. Very nice range. Thanks again.
Are those targets Carole Baskin?
THAT BITCH! ;)
I haven't watched the whole thing yet, so forgive me if you address this later. How would you adjust your scores if you have to go from low ready because your range won't let you draw and fire?
Nevermind - I forgot you did another video on that...(hangs head)
Are those targets from the range, or can I order those somewhere?
They were ordered from a company that has since gone out of business unfortunately.
@@ASPextra any suggestions on where to find something similar, or at least meets your standards?

Post up the math! For Mrs. ASP how did you get 35.9? Score 44, Time 15.3
get-asp.com/skillcheck tells you how we got there.

Do the timers have any issues telling your shots from others at a live range?
They can if others are in the bay with you. Great reason to use the MantisX10.
I noticed your boy has a gun and red dot, what holster is he using
Which? Neil? He's running a HK VP9 with RMR in either a Dark Star Gear Orion or a KSG Armory Doulos.
66.4? Shocking!
I like the idpa scores why make the scoring complicated
This gives you hit factor scoring, which gives you a normalized score against which you can compare.
I'm not complaining, I love what your doing , but when you run a practice run in idpa you can tell where you need to slow down no take more careful aim and speed up or point shoot ,it's all time you add seconds on if you don't take the time to aim better which makes it easy to see where your time going, uspsa you go as fast as you can as long as your anywhere on the target then you have to calculate and get a percentage of the top score, if it's just time then the fast guy goes 20 seconds but 10 down the slow guy goes 29 seconds 0 down, so the slow guy needs to work on speed the fast guy on acurate it's easy to see, and you don't need that calculator
Hit factor actually evens the odds better than time penalties, though.
You draw for a head shoot 1.5 seconds but you miss a box but you graz the head , idpa 1 second down so your time is 2.5 secounds, I draw for a head shoot 2.5 secounds but I hit the a box zero down my time 2.5 secounds, and if you want to change the time penalties you can , idpa is 1 for a 3 for c 5 if you miss , but what works for you great keep it up I like to do it in my head, when I praticecore uspsa I go 1/4 for a 1/2 for c and 5 for a mik and the young fellas calculate with there phones until the see where getting the same results jus us old timers are doing it in are head, but again what ever floats your boat.
I would love to try this and see how I do
It's a fun and quick test.
what do you call the blue timer box and where can one purchase one?
I believe it is a shot timer. You can get them online from a variety of retailers.
amzn.to/3arsJGc
I've seen you bill drill under 2 seconds John
I have been faster than this for sure. Not sub-2 though.
Who's that pretty lady who shot first?
The fetching Mrs. ASP!
Would currently be breaking the law in my state standing that close without a mask. Stay safe
It would be a blonde chick that goes crazy and draws down on you over something stupid. That target's name should be "The Karen".
