This is really a difficult question to answer as all 3 shops are very good. Chinese B, the downside is limited tables and long wait.. only go if you have the patience to wait.. at least 30 minutes… and also after eating, there will probably be someone waiting for your table. Chinese B & Salwa both taste very similar.. however, Salwa has nice seaview, sea breeze and a more romantic place to bring your girlfriend(s). Also, have the option to have laksa tempurung as well. A lot of tables… even have tables close to the waterfront.. so you get a very relaxing environment. Ayu, it’s delicious and taste is different from Salwa and Chinese B.. the soup/sauce is clearer and a little sweeter…was told that their secret is in their chilli. Go try all 3 and see which you like best.. Enjoy! 🤤
@@UncleLeeAdventures The Salwa seaside/waterfront feels a bit rundown and humid (hot), the Ba-B Lian (yes, I found its full name) kitchen looks more clean and it has the combo set. I like the combo set that you ate, prawns + crab + sotong
I finally ate at the Ba-B Lian Mee Udang. I reached there before 11:30am, the first customer of the day. MYR 30 for a plate of big prawn noodle, MYR 23 for mixed prawn & sotong. The way he cooked the seafood was just cooked and it is also slight over sweet (too much sugar) . It was not to my liking, I preferred it to be fully cooked and less sugar.
There’s a reason why mee udang is best near the coastal areas of Penang… Teluk Kumbar has a few fisherman landing areas and this is where fisherman brings in their catch everyday. So the mee udang vendors can buy the freshest prawns for their noodles. About 20+ years ago when I was staying in Penang, I used to buy prawns from the fishermen there.. fresh off the boat and not frozen at all. Put 2-3 prawns in maggi mee and I will be in heaven!
Awesome! Although i can't eat too spicy, i don't mind curry noodles etc. I have a friend from Hunan and I know how spicy she can take. Uncle Lee, where is a good sotong and prawn fritters rojak place in KL?
Ayo my saliva dripping everywhere liaw. How come you know so many places in Penang for awesome food? Is the guy in make up your Food Ambassador in Penang? Though you gave all 3 2 thumbs up, which one gave you the most kick? i can only afford one 😅
I have stayed and worked in Penang for 12 years in the past and I still go back to Penang few times a year...so I know many good makan places in Penang. All 3 places are good for their food....however, each have their pros and cons. @@UncleLeeAdventures Thanks for sharing your experience. Looking forward to more vlogs from you on Penang then. Your wife sounds like a Penangite though.
Not sure if this is a fair statement for Salwa… I must say that when I filmed the Salwa portion of the clip, it was raining heavily in Penang the day/night before with very strong winds so don’t expect fishermen to be out at sea.. in situation like this, I think Salwa would have stock up on prawns so that they can continue to have something to sell the next day. The Ayu portion of the video was filmed few months ago when it was all hot and sunny and excellent weather and of course they got the freshest catch without having to rely on frozen prawns. I wonder if both were filmed on same day, will both use frozen prawns? Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer to this question. But nevertheless, Salwa’s mee udang is also pretty delicious! 🤤
Thanks Uncle Lee for your response. I thought you all eat one day after another, doing a coverage on specifically Mee Udang. Perhaps in future, put the description that the visits of each outlet with date/month. Otherwise viewers might have other thoughts. In Penang, the standard is set very high that food lovers will look at every detail because they are spoilt on choices.
The combo is quite expensive because flower crab have no meat. Only add to the flavour at the most. Didn't show how they eat the crab means nothing much to eat.
There’s actually some decent amount of meat in the crab.. didn’t show much of crab because I intend to focus this video on prawns.. just like the laksa tempurung is also awesome but didn’t feature much too.
Thanks Uncle Lee for sharing another great and interesting video. I enjoyed watching it and also loved it as always too.👍👍👍😍😍😍
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏

Really sedap.... Good recommendation uncle Lee. 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you liked it
Looks so delicious 😋, among the 3 stores, in your opinion which one is the best? Is the Chinese store named "B" the most delicious?

can you recommend any mee udang shops that are closer to Georgetown?

Where are you taking us this weekend uncle Lee?
Bring you for some spicy Hunan food and to watch a circus! Enjoy..

Uncle Lee, is your hometown really in Penang?
Hometown is in Seremban

Salwa's prawns are frozen, taste a little bit on the downside.
