    Outstanding video. You really showed a lot of detail. My 04 has been sitting for 2 years and I started it a month ago started up just fine after I reinstalled the battery. And then I noticed the fuel gauge was sliding from half tank down to empty. Including the ceiling information LED showed zero miles to empty. The instrument cluster gas icon light went on too So I quickly assumed the fuel pump sending sensor might be going bad. Then all of a sudden the light went up and the gauge went back to half full. I then started it a few weeks later same issue. I drove it a little while and the gauge was still moving from empty to half full. I filled up the tank and then I noticed it was reading about only 7/8 full. I pulled it back into the garage and I won't be driving it this winter but come spring I'll probably work on it. My guess is it's that fuel pump sending sensor since both the instrument gauge and the ceiling information led were both affected. Anyway I thought your video was excellent.

    No you don’t have to take those bolts off that are holding the straps on that hold the tank into the shield. And you wouldn’t have gas spray out normally if you go to the injection fuel line Schrader valve and release the fuel pressure!

      I usually diagnose a fuel pump by checking the fuel pressure at the Schrader Valve.

    • @diffsnicker4664
      @diffsnicker4664 3 года назад +1

      a cheaper way to diagnose a fuel pump is putting starting fluid into the intake if your engine wants to start thats how you know it's the fuel pump if it sounds the same it means your engine either isn't getting air or spark

    This has been the best mechanic video I have seen on anything. Just got one of these jeeps and it started leaking when I try filling it up from the first time. I'm watching this because I want to see what it could be which is what I think it is some of the gaskets on the top cuz when I tried feeling it up when we got near the top and started leaking not from the fill up point but from the tank itself. Awesome fucking video best. Just what we need not all the other chalking that we don't eat good job man keep it up.

    Hey uh i had trouble starting my jeep 4.0 wj so i replaced the fuel filter and it worked fine for like 2 hrs now i have same problem with starting again, also the old fuel filter was clogged and the gas it had looked like rust or dirt mix, could it be that my gas tank is dirty and clogged the filter again or just the pump?

    • @JimmyLeeTennessee

      The first thing I would advise is checking for fuel pressure if possible. They sell gauges at harbor freight for pretty cheap.

    • @JimmyLeeTennessee
      @JimmyLeeTennessee  Год назад

      Unfortunately if it won't run, there isn't really a good way. If you have to, stick a siphon hose in the fill nozzle, get some suction going, and let gravity do the rest! You can find siphon pumps at harborfreight.

  • @barbracompton8236

    Is the smaller hose fuel out and the bigger hose the return or opposite?

    • @JimmyLeeTennessee
      @JimmyLeeTennessee  10 месяцев назад

      I'm sorry I cannot remember this specific vehicle as it has been a long time. You might be able to find on Google, if nothing else, trace up to the fuel rail!

    • @barbracompton8236
      @barbracompton8236 10 месяцев назад

      I only ask because I am having fuel come up like it's high pressure into the throttle body where the fuel return line hooks up and no fuel at the fuel rail. Trying to figure out if a fuel line clog could cause that or if I have my pump pumping backwards or the plug polarity reversed on the fuel pump that would also cause it to pump backwards, but I believe the center smaller line is the high pressure fuel line and the one off to the left side is the return line it's one size larger in diameter. If that's the case then the harness is reversing polarity or I have a clogged fuel line but still don't make sense if fuel is coming through the return line into the throttle body seems like high pressure

    • @JimmyLeeTennessee
      @JimmyLeeTennessee  10 месяцев назад

      @barbracompton8236 it sounds like you have lines reversed and the pressure regulator is working like a check valve, thereby preventing fuel from entering the rail. Reversed polarity should not be possible because of the shape of the plug. In addition, the motor running backwards would push fuel back into the tank, not through the return line. Start at the fuel rail, and trace the lines back to the pump. The pump should have an arrow on the one that is the "from pump" connection. Also not completely sure what you mean by "at the throttle body."
