My Dying Bride has been the leading light of doom metal since the debut album "As The Flower Withers" was released on Peaceville Records back in 1992. Influenced by acts such as Celtic Frost and Candlemass, the band's heavy atmospherics have carved a huge worldwide following over the years and they remain at the pinnacle of the genre and one of the most instantly distinguishable metal bands.
‘Songs of Darkness, Words of Light’ was the band’s eighth studio album and was originally released in 2004. With My Dying Bride’s perfected blend of guitar and sombre atmospherics creating an unmistakable ensemble of epic crushing doom metal, and featuring some of the band’s most dark and sinister material to date, the album was also notable for its more sensitive and reflective side, as evident on the track ‘Catherine Blake’, & fan favourite, ‘My Wine in Silence’.

At 60 yrs old I like this song (and "Crown of Sympathy") my peers think I'm weird. They might be right - and I'm ok with that.

For some reason, when I listen to this song, I see images of someone being put on trial.
The death vocal intro is the jury examining him, looking at him in disgust.
The first verse is the defendant giving their testimony.
The part where the organ comes in is their soliloquy while the jurors deliberate on whether or not the person is found guilty. In this moment, I always imagine the lights of the set being turned off, while the spotlight shines on the defendant.
The outro is the defendant being found guilty, and receiving punishment.
When the valley of death calls you, it whispers..... Sometimes it screams, either way it's voice sounds like your most loved one's calling you to slumber. Then you have a choice to awaken!
One of my favorite albums. Just wish for more new material 🤘🏻

"fly away my hope...." I remember one time, i was playing this record, and my neighbor just can't help but knock on my door, asking me to stop playing this,.. she said something weird is creeping all over her "body and soul" and that she felt someone is whispering in her ears! 😒😏😈 I haven't even finished this first track from the record
